Windows Update not working after clonning with Arconis 2013 WD edition

I thought I posted this two days ago... but I didn't see it.
Anyways, it's a Gateway desktop running Windows 7 64-bit with a bad disk which I cloned (it wasn't that bad). I was able to image it with Acronis 2015 retail before this. The Windows Update just said, "Restart" and I tried everything I could find on Google. Now, I just blew it away and am doing the restore from the Acronis 2015 image. I'll post what happens.
BTW, sysprep just destroyed the desktop's ability to restart - it said something about an unsigned driver before going into an en endless loop of restarting after the Windows splash screen where it says, "Starting services..." then gives up and you click Ok and it restarts.

  • Windows Update not working after HDD replacement

I have a toshiba L675D-S4047 that I just replaced the HDD in.  I cannot get windows update to work.  I have tried this link https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=21730&ProductFamily=Soft... for the Intel driver. Every time I have it detect my driver, I get the blue screen and the laptop restarts. I am recovering off the dvds I created.  I have also went to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982018 and downloaded the windows 7 x64 update package with no luck.  I am running 64 bit wondows 7 Home premium.  any help will be greatly appreciated.  Also, I am having issues updating microsoft security essentials.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Then I found one thing that worked: ...  I used option 2 - Windows Update - Reset - Windows 7 Help Forums
So you needed to reset WU components..
How do I reset Windows Update components?
    Thanks for the information.

  • [SOLVED] Windows Update not working after Cloning Hard Disk!

Lenovo T61p with Intel Turbo Memory - Cloning HDD with Advanced Format (4K Cluster) HDD
I have been beating my head against my desk for the past day trying to figure out the problems I am having.
I have a Genuine Windows 7 Ultimate Installation
I cloned my old 100GB HDD onto a 500GB HDD to increase space however after doing so I am unable to update windows, turn windows defender on, or install any Microsoft Products. I am even unable to install WindowsActivationUpdate or Microsoft Security Essentials.
I have tried many FixIt tools to no avail.
    I have run SFC /SCANNOW
    I have run CHKDSK
    I am stumped.
    ****RESOLUTION****
After doing some digging I found the solution. Since I had cloned the drive, the old AHCI driver wasn't updating Windows with the correct sector size. Updating the AHCI driver with the latest from Intel solved all the issues I was having.
    **Note**
Install the Lenovo Driver First -- Reboot
    Lenovo Driver: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS001676
Install the AHCI Driver Manually (iaAHCI.inf - Do this in Device Manager) -- Reboot
    Intel AHCI RST Driver: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=20110
***DO NOT INSTALL RST GUI IT WILL REMOVE TURBO MEMORY DRIVERS!!!***
    Windows Update = Working

But it still says Windows 7 Activation was Successful.

I only discovered this problem a month after replacing my system HDD with an ssd Drive for a Vista sp2 Dell studio 1735 . But in my case all drivers  were  up to date. However this post triggered the right path to a solution. Though it is more
a workaround ... . Perhaps this will help others, an even more perhaps bring a microsoft engineer to make a small adaption to the vista windows update tool ....
So the problem seems that Windows Update checks for its datastore if the file is alined with the HDD underneath. But it seems that this check fails for an ssd with a 4K sector size.
Lucky I had another HDD in my laptop, which is required for this work around to work :-(. So the following shows the problem (and I think Windows Update does an alike test).
cd \windows\SDold\DataStore (so use cd \windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore if you didn't try the "ren" action yet as mentioned in many posts)
esentutl /g DataStore.edb  -> (result) Operation terminated with error -583 (JET_errSectorSizeNotSupported, The physical sector size reported by the disk subsystem, is unsupported by ESE for a specific file type.) after 0.15 seconds.
    cd D:\        (to a 512 byte sectored HDD )
esentutl /g C:\Windows\SDold\DataStore\DataStore.edb     -> (succeeds! normal verification output)
So I tried (the junction tool can be downloaded from sysinternals):
    net stop cryptsvc
    net stop wuauserv
    robocopy /mir C:\Windows\SDold\DataStore D:\DataStore
robocopy /mir C:\Windows\system32\catroot2 D:\catroot2   (I now think this is not needed, but I started with an Technet post (and many others ...) that put me on the esentutl track... , which is also why the "net stop cryptsvc" is present.)
    C:
    cd ..\SoftwareDistribution
    rmdir /s /q DataStore
    junction DataStore D:\DataStore
cd ..\system32   ( again not sure if needed, also counts for the next 2 commands).
    rmdir /s /q catroot2
    junction catroot2 D:\catroot2
    net start cryptsvc
    net start wuauserv
And windows update worked again ! Check the C:\windows\WindowsUpdate.log
Of course this is just a workaround, but perhaps this puts another searcher on the right track. And perhaps it makes a Microsoft engineer update the responsible code ... as to be aligned on disk does not seem crucial for the databases used for this "application"
Sorry had to remove links for sysinternals and cc734083(v=ws.10).aspx (esentutl, which is a vista specific command) both Microsoft links, as Microsoft has not yet verified my account ...

  • Same issue Network Discovery not working and Windows Update not working

    I've read the threads.
This is a Vista Ultimate upgrade. My OOOOH My I have clocked 8 hours
Everything was working before. I tried all of the recommended  services turning on restarting.
Also, ran into the problem of my memory being eaten. Suspected cause hibernate mode, which I had to disable. Scott Hasselman blog recommended the fix which is a cheap work around that limits machines functionality!!
I'm and IT Engineer specializing in MS product lines since Windows 1.0. MFC foundation classes etc.. What is the real problem ?
I don't have the NetBIOS over tcp/ip in my services?
I figure that the cost of my time and other individuals pays for the OS four times over. Give me a Microsoft developer subscription or something to make me happy. This is my development machine and I'm loosing time and money.
FYI, Just upgraded my second machine to Windows 8.1 OMG !!2 Hours to upgrade after the download. I loose my configuration settings. I required to have a Windows Live whatever account!!! This is not the way to compete and keep customers.
Windows XP has been by far the best deployment experience. I need a Knowledge base that gives solutions , not a troubleshooting scenario that does or does not work!!
Please , don't tell me to go and by a OEM Surface I cannot recommend this to my clients.
    Thank You

    Hi,
If it worked previously, a quick solution is to run System Restore and get back to the previous status when the issue didn’t occur.
    What is System Restore?
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/What-is-System-Restore
When you turn on network discovery, do you get any error prompt?
Please check if you have any error message about network discovery in event viewer.
    Open Event Viewer
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-Event-Viewer
What information appears in event logs (Event Viewer)?
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-information-appears-in-event-logs-Event-Viewer
Please use Windows Live SkyDrive (http://www.skydrive.live.com/) to upload the Error logs to a public folder and share the URLs with us.
Also, please temporarily turn off your firewall and all the security programs for a test.
As far as I know, Network discovery requires that the DNS Client, DNS Client, Network Connections, Network Location Awareness,  Remote Procedure Call (RPC), Function Discovery
Resource Publication, TCP/IP Netbios helper, SSDP Discovery, and UPnP Device Host services are started and set to automatic.
You should check again if you have started all these services.
Regarding the update issue, I suggest you try the following suggestions.
    1. Temporarily disable firewall and antivirus program to test the issue.
    2. Open the Windows Update troubleshooter
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Update-troubleshooter
    3. Reset Windows Update components

You may follow the steps from the link below to fix the issue.

  • Windows updates not working because it extract patches on Mac partition first., Windows updates not working because it extract patches on Mac partition first.

I have installed BootCamp 5.1 and Windows updates not working because it extract files on Mac partition before installation. Is there any workaround for same ?

To replicate this issue - Try to download .net framework 4.5 from microsoft website and than run that setup on windows partition.
Before installation. it will first extract all the binaries to a other drivers, since in my case other primary drive is E which is a Mac partition so it always give me an error while extractiing and therefore setup is not able to execute propely.
Let me try to get the screen shot of error and send it here.

  • Windows Updates not working

We are having a problem with Windows update not wanting to work with the
    filters up and running.
When I drop the filtering Windows Update from the workstations works just
fine. When I have the filters up we get an error code of Error number:
0x80072EFE from the windows update which is only identified as
ERROR_INTERNET_CONNECTION_ABORTED Some network problem or the server/proxy
    reset the socket connection.
Any ideas on what filter exceptions I need to put in BM to allow this
    traffic??
    TIA!

    Do what I did.
Installed Windows System Update Service on a Windows 2003 Server. It's free.
Then I added a rule to bypass the proxy for the WSUS server only.
So WSUS server downloads direct from MS and stores them locally
The Clients download from the WSUS Server saving on bandwidth on the
    Internet Connection
    It's another work around.
    Rgds
    Simon.

    Hi @ned-m
I regret that the link did not resolve your difficulty.
What was the results when you tried resetting the updater per the document in the link?
Did you run  MS Fix It, if so what was the result.
Here is a link to  Troubleshoot problems with installing updates .  If none of the above has helped, I would try doing a Windows repair.
I would try a Windows repair or reinstall your Windows.  Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 7)

  • Event ID 1001 Server 2008 R2 Windows Update not working

Windows update fails with error code 80072EFE.  I have ran rootkiller and malicious software removal tool from microsoft.  Still no luck.

    Hi,
I suggest trying the following steps to troubleshoot this issue:
Step 1 Reset proxy (for LAN connection)
    =========================
Remove invalid characters from the proxy exception list and then clear the proxy cache.
    1. Open Internet Explorer.
    2. In the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
    3. Click on the Connections tab.
    4. Click on the LAN Settings.
    5. Clear the entries in "Use automatic configuration script" and uncheck "Automatically detect settings."
    6. Click on the Advanced button.
    7. Please delete any entry in the Exceptions section,
    8. Click OK, and return to the previous window. Uncheck "Use Proxy Server for your LAN", and click OK to accept the changes.
    9. Quit Internet Explorer.
    Next, clear your proxy cache.
    Step 2 Reset Proxy Cache
    ================
    1. Click the Start Button, click "All programs", and click "Accessories".
    2. Right-click "Command Prompt", and click "Run as administrator". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    3. Type "netsh winhttp reset proxy" (without quotes) at the command prompt, and press Enter.
    Step 3 Clean Boot
    ===========
    1. Click the Start Button, type "msconfig" in the search bar and press Enter.
Note: Please click the Continue if the "User Account Control" window pops up.
    2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).
    3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".
Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System"
    4. Test if we can update the system in Clean Boot.
Note 1: Temporarily disabling the Startup Group only prevents the startup programs from loading at startup. This shouldn't affect the system or other programs. We may still manually
    run these programs later.
Note 2: We can check on Normal Startup in the General tab to roll back to Normal Mode after we get this issue resolved.
If the issue persists, please help collect the following files:
    WindowsUpdate.log
    ============
    1. Click Start, type: %windir% and press OK.
    2. Locate a file named "WindowsUpdate.log".
    System Information
    ============
    1. Click Start, type in "MSINFO32" and press Enter to start System Information.
    2. On the popup window, on the menu bar, click File, and click Save to save it as an NFO file, such as system.nfo.
Please upload the above files to

  • Windows Update not working

I have a couple of servers on Standard 2012R2 (a Domain Controller & File Server) virtualized on VMWare ESXi 5.1.  Server Manager tells me that they have never checked or updated (although they show 40 updates applied).  Set to download updates
and notify for installation.  I've manually triggered to check for updates.  The "Windows Update" window sits there with the 'Checking for updates.." and the progress bar scrolls by ad infinitum.  I've let it run all night and
still nothing.  All my other VM installations are updating fine.  I've spent a month building this new domain for the new company being created and so not in full production yet, but I still don't want to re-create the servers.
Anyone else have this issue and fix it?

    Hi,
How did you configure your DNS? Is it able to resolve external name?
I suppose the name cannot be resolved, so it stuck when initiate an update. Since DNS is usually for internal name resolution, and for external we need configure DNS forwarder,
    mostly your ISP DNS server.
In addition, you can check windowsupdate.log which records WU agent behavior.

  • NOMAD MuVo not working after formating with Wind

    Hi,
Yesterday, I formated my NOMAD MuVo player with windows (FAT32) and now it only works as a USB key. When I press on the play button the light turns to red and there's no sound.
I have neither the firware nor the drivers and when I try to install the firware it does not work (the software can't find the player that is plugged into the USB port).
    Could someone please help me?
    Thanks.

Have you followed the instructions on reloading the firmware at the download page? Often for MuVos there is a special procedure to follow (click "show details" next to the firmware download link).
Formatting as FAT32 can be a bad idea as some players don't recognise the file system.

  • Windows Update not working on rebuilt RAID1 on Larger Drives -

Recovered an image from 320 gig drives to 500 gig drives.  Everything worked fine except both Lenovo and Windows Updates did not work.  Subsequently noticed that this was also true on the 320s and it happened a day or two before I imaged it (them).  Downloaded and installed the latest Lenovo System Update application and that cured both problems on the 320s but only cured the Lenovo updates problem on the 500s.  I've tried a few things written on the web and also tried to let the Windows online validation tool run but I've tried it twice but it doesn't end.  The last time it ran for over 1.5 hours without any resolution.  It just keeps spinning.
This is actually another opportunity generated from what I was doing in the post "How to Migrate a Raid1 to larger drives without having to rebuild on a W700?" but this seems like a different, though related, subject so I started a new post.  If someone thinks it best to combine them please do.
How can I get Windows Update to update?

  • Windows update not working on new Dell Inspiron 7000 (7537)

I currently have Windows 8 on my new dell inspiron (actually refurbished) 7000.  Only things I've done since getting the computer:  I removed McAfee and turned on Windows defender (which also won't update).  Windows update shows about 93 updates
but when I hit install it says it is downloading by never moves past 0%.  I used the auto fix that Microsoft offers for windows update to no avail.  Not sure what to do now.

    Hi,
    I agree with Milos.
I suggest you upload the Windowsupdate.log so that we can help you analyze the issue.
By default, the Windows Update client records all transaction   information to the following log file:
    %windir%\Windowsupdate.log
Meanwhile, please check the following services to ensure they are in a start state.
    Windows Module installer service
    Cryptographic Services
    Windows update services
    Background intelligent transfer service

this looks a lot like a trojan/malware/virus infection. (or possibly the remnants of an infection).

I suggest you check and run a reputable antivirus/anti-malware scan, and get rid of that junk!
