Windows Updates aren't allowing me to make changes. I'm the admin!
Hey all, I've got a 2008R2 terminal server in a domain. It won't allow me to manage updates. I thought it must be because it's in a GPO somewhere that's got it disabled, so I did a gpresult and there are no windows updates settings being applied
to it. I then checked the local group policy and found all "Not Configured" settings for windows updates.
My domain admin account I use to log onto the machine is a local admin, and I ran gpresult "As Administrator" just in case.
Anyone have a recommendation on what to check next? The actual message is:
"Some settings are management by your system administrator"
And everything is grayed out. Help!
Hi, based on my experience, the option is not available for Domain Admin. Please just use a local admin instead of a domain admin with local admin rights.
Meanwhile please check the following 3 group policy:
User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Component -> Windows Update > "Remove access to use all Windows Update Features" , it shouldn't be enabled.
Computer Configuration-> Administrative Templates -> Windows Component -> Windows Update - Nothing should be defined.
Computer Configuration-> Administrative Templates-> System-> Internet Communication Management-> Internet Communication settings: - “Turn off access to all Windows Update features” , it shouldn't be enabled.

Updated Firefox yesterday and now the program will not open on my desktop. Windows 7 Running as Administrator & Allow Program to Make Changes Popup
Before someone tells me this question is posted elsewhere; I already know that. I've spent hours trying to figure this out. and have yet to find any answers that have helped.
The only way I can save presets is to run a program (let's say Photoshop) as Administrator (in Windows 7). If - I Run as Administrator - then - I get the UAC popup asking me if I want to allow Photoshop to make changes to my computer. I cannot tell you how annoying this is. I keep having to go back and forth between setting programs to Run as Administrator everytime I want to work with presets, and then I have to go back to Compatability and set the program to Not Run as Administrator, in order to stop getting that annoying UAC popup. I do not want to turn off my UAC! Perhaps the problem is in the location where I am storing my files. My files are in C:\myName rather than in C:\Users\myName. My Creative Cloud Programs were installed in C:\Program Files\Adobe (by default). myName is set as the Administrator Account in Windows.
Note: I can save the presets at other locations on my computer, just not in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Program Name\Presets\Gradients\(or whatever) which is where they need to be.
Please Advise.If I try to open Adobe by itself, without attaching it to a specific file, same thing- still got command.
But I can add this: Somehow awhile back I found the solution on line (if I recall, it was not in an Adobe forum). Kicking myself for not posting here. So I had it working, but then I recently had to reinstall the program and it went back to square one. However, I instructed the program to open with an previous version (Right click- properties - previous version) and I know can open again without getting that annoying command. Problem is I stll can't remember how I got it that way the first time. I was thinking it may have been tied in with making it compatible to an earlier version, but I just checked Properties again, and it says Windows 7, so that is not changing anything. I am sorry. I have searched and seached again to find that earlier solution, but now I can't find it! If anyone else can figure it out, please post to save the next person a bunch of time. I have spent hours on this already, searching, reading, tweaking. -
Type an Administrator Name and Password to allow lpadmin to make changes.
We have a lab full of PowerPC G5 Towers running 10.5 off a PowerPC G5 tower running 10.5 Server. We are using Open Directory and AFP to allow students to login to Network Accounts from Local Workstations. After Archive and Installing two of the G5 Machines and updating them, We encountered the error "Type an Administrator Name and Password to allow lpadmin to make changes." and it freezes up and doesn't allow us to enter the password or username or even move the mouse.
To use the solution in the link above in this case, here's one way to go about things:
- Restart while holding down command and s at the same time to boot into single-user mode.
- Use the following commands to mount the filesystem (these are also listed on the screen when you start up):
$ /sbin/fsck -fy
$ /sbin/mount -uw /
- You're going to need the root password, so if you haven't already set one, type 'passwd', hit return, and set one.
- Load Directory Services:
$ launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.DirectoryServices.plist
- Run the command mentioned in that other post, entering your root password when prompted:
$ dseditgroup -o edit -p -a admin -t group _lpadmin
- You may need to run it twice, because the first time it may say something about upgrading your groups or something like that.
I hope that helps. It worked for me on multiple machines affected by this problem.

Every time I try to open Firefox, my User Account Control asks if I want to allow Firefox to make changes to my computer. It never did this before until my brother messed while trying to download something for a printer. I uninstalled, then reinstalled it, hoping it would fix this, but it didn't. How do I fix this?

Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".

I am trying to manage my "Location Services" on my iTouch but the device does not allow me to make changes. The screen is grayed-out indicating that changes cannot be made. Anyone experience something similar?

When you go to System Preferences > Sound what does it say for Output? Have you had headphones plugged in? Sometimes the headphone jack gets stuck thinking it has something plugged in when there isn't anaything there. SMC also has something to do with Sound:

You are awesome! That is exactly what I was doing. I had copied a folder from a network drive to install some files. Then I tried to delete the folder after the install. I was prompted with the message in this thread. I checked permissions and I did not have read/write privileges even though I was logged in as the admin both when copying and deleting. Thanks! -
iba allow others to make text edits. What workflow are you guys using to allow others to make text edits once the iBook has been layed out and formatted? Is it too late? Do I need to export txt then reimport the editted text and reformat it all again?

Thanks for the reply. The project I am working on is a test project for a customer. They could potentially want a number of their educational subjects presented as an interactive text book. The intent of this first project with them is to establish a logical workflow that will allow us to efficiently estimate costs and allow for review throughout the design process. Having worked with customers on creative projects in the past I can anticipate that they will want a number of changes made once they see a working version of the interactive text book.
It is a grim reality that no project can be fully edited and planned prior to working on it and I know revisions and changes are always made once the customer can see their product. It is ok with me if there is no easy way to pass the text back and forth from the customer and me without having to reformat everything but I just want to know that is the way it works in order to provide a realistic time estimate for the project.
My hope was I would be able to export the formatted text, allow them to make edits and then reimport that formatted text. The style sheets I am using are from one of the iBooks Author templates.
Do you know if there is a way to use (or export ) this style sheet so it can be used in a Pages Document?
Or, would the best option be to have the customer install iBooks Author? This would require the customer to have a mac and the software so it doesn't work for all cases.
Another idea I was considering would be to export the book as a PDF and have the customer add markup and notes to the PDF.
All of these options do not seem too great to me.
I am open to any ideas.

You shoulcn't, but download and use the free app My Contacts Backup to back up your contacts before you try. It will back up your contacts as an attachment to an email which you send to yourself. If you somehow lose your contacts by deleting the account you can later open this email on your phone and tap the attachement to re-import your contacts.

i cannot sync,back up or add songs to my iPod Touch 5th generation 32 GB-whenever i make changes and click the apply/sync button it takes hours but still it doesn't sync or add music to my ipod............i thought there was a problem with itunes so i uninstalled it and downloaded the latest version but still the problem continued....the picture below shows how it looks after 28 minutes of syncing........

mp4 is indeed universal (Mac, Windows, Linux), and since YouTube, the h264 codec has a good installed base .....
you can bump into probs only when it comes to sheer amount of data:
for instance cheap 'digital frames' are sortof over-whelmed, if you try to playback 720/30p in high quality.
I'm not familiar with 21st cent devices as SmartBoards ... again, it could happen, you have to reduce resolution/fps/bit-rate to avoid clutter&stutter in the video.
I'm using such encoded files successfully on Playstation3, WD HD TV or flatscreenTVs with integrated usb-connection (via stick), etc

On using my latop yesterday, i opened itunes and it gave me the option to update to the new software, which i was happy to do. I went through all the stages on installing the software and it opened up for use.
On using the software to download new music, i found it was freezing quite a lot and just in general wouldnt work. I closed the prgramme after having to use task manager as it wouln't respond. I then re-opened the programme and it came up with the message 'Do you wish to allow this prgramme to make changes to your computer?' i automatically said yes and expected itunes to open however, it didn't. I ran through troubleshoot compatibility however the issue found said 'Incompatibe application' to which i didnt know what it meant.
I've tried everything to make it work. Re-starting the computer, going on unistalling the programme and repairing it but, nothings worked.
I dont want to unistall the programme because i dont want to lose my music. I need a way to fix the programme without unistalling it.

You can't "copy" your photos to the "library manager", there is just no way to any such thing.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Must always "allow program to make changes to computer" upon opening a pdf file with Acrobat
Whenever I attempt to open a pdf with AA, I get this notificaiton:
"Do you want to allow this program to make changes to your computer".
Running Adobe X Pro (10.1.8) on Windows 7, 64-bit. I had resolved this awhile ago, but recently had to do a reinstall of Acrobat and now the problem is reoccuring.
This doesn't happen on my two other pcs, both running Windows XP.
I believe in the past I changed the compatibilty to XP (not sure of service pack). Have tried 2 and 3 to no avail. Tried "Run as admin" and not.
What am I missing?
