Windows Updates from Internet or Wsus Server

We are trying to install the update from Internet or from Sus server but we are not going through
Devdatta

Hi Devdatta,
What's the meaning? Did you want to install the Windows update for your computer?
You can obtain the updates from Windows Update:
Windows Update
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows7/products/features/windows-update
How did you get the updates, download from Internet Explorer manually?
What's the error message or symptom when you attempt to install them?
Meanwhile, I suggest you refer to this article to fix your problem.

  • Server 2012 R2 cannot update from 2008 R2 WSUS server

Our WSUS server is on a 2008 R2 VM.  Updates for all 2008 R2 and lower servers, and Windows 7 clients work fine.  I have one Server 2012 R2 in production and it cannot check for updates.  It gets 800b0001 as the error code.  I can
click on check for updates from Microsoft, then it does reach out to the Internet, download and install updates.
I also tried from my Win 8.1 laptop and I get error 8024402C.  Any idea's?

I found in another thread the fix.
In regedit go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Update Services\Server\Setup and change "wYukonInstalled"
    from a 1 to a 0.
    Installer succeeds.
However now the Update Services console does not work.  I get a connection error.
It's one thing after another with these things.  I don't understand why Microsoft can't ever make something simple.  IISReset did not cure this either.
The WSUS administration console was unable to connect to the WSUS Server via the remote API.
Verify that the Update Services service, IIS and SQL are running on the server. If the problem persists, try restarting IIS, SQL, and the Update Services Service.
The WSUS administration console has encountered an unexpected error. This may be a transient error; try restarting the administration console. If this error persists,
Try removing the persisted preferences for the console by deleting the wsus file under %appdata%\Microsoft\MMC\.
System.IO.IOException -- The handshake failed due to an unexpected packet format.

  • Windows 2012 r2 not able to get windows updates from WSUS 2012 r2

One of our windows 2012 R2 server is not getting windows updates from WSUS 2012 R2 but other 2012 R2 are getting updates.
I found on windowsupdate log on the server saying "WARNING: Failed to get Network Cost info from NLM, assuming network is NOT metered, error = 0x80240037"
Not sure what is the issue.

I believe the warning isn't really relevant in this case. Could you post a recent section from the windowsupdate.log from that machine?

  • Unable to scan and install windows updates on Win 2008 R2 server

I've encountered some of my win 2008 servers are unable to scan and receive windows updates from SCCM 2012. Browse through the logs and found some error code related to
0x80244023. Excerpt from the WindowsUpdate and WUAHandler is as below. Searched the net and found some workaround which is to rename the registry key
WinHTTPSettings to WinHTTPSettingsx (by adding x at the end of the string)
    under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrentVersion -> Internet Settings -> Connections.
I've did just that on the effected servers and after running again the Software Update Scan Cycle action, it is now able to scan and install the updates. My questions is, based on you guys experience, is there any repercussion (apart from enable to install
software updates) that I could encounter in changing the registry key value WinHTTPSettings?

    Hi
If SCCM is setup correctly and your boundaries are correct then once you deploy updates the agents will pick them up.
Also make sure you SUP role has the FQDN set. Lastly if you are using port 8530 make sure it is open.
Hope this helps. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

  • Windows Media Player keeping Automatic Maintenance window/Windows Updates from doing auto-restart

I have a system that is connected to a domain, and it runs a video playlist in Windows Media Player for digital signage upon bootup (and auto-login).  WMP is set to loop the videos over and over again, but it also is preventing automatic updates from
installing and/or auto-restarting at 3:00AM in the morning (and yes, the system power management is set to keep the computer on all the time).
    How can I fix this?
I have a GPO set up to install updates and restart automatically (option 4).  I tried the GPO option to use the Windows 8 maintenance window to install updates, and also tried turning that option off and just using a 3:00AM restart period.  Neither
option seems to work, so it looks like Windows Media Player is preventing an auto-restart to finish the update installation.  Is there any way around this, so that Windows Media Player doesn't stop Windows Updates from doing its job?  I don't care
if that means the video stops playing because it just starts up again on the next bootup.
I looked at the WMP GPO's and the only option that sounds like it's related is the option to turn on or off the auto-updating of media info for WMP, but it has nothing to do with what I'm trying to accomplish.  If I missed something, let me know.
If there is some other way to accomplish this, such as associating and launching the playlist file with the Xbox Videos app, I would be fine with that, but I need it to loop the playlist continually (I also use the Shuffle option
in WMP - ***see note below for another question).  I still want the system to automatically install updates and reboot on a regular schedule despite the video playing in the foreground.
***Side question: is there any way to turn Repeat and Shuffle options on in WMP without having to load the GUI (for scripting a playlist)?
Just FYI: this system is actually using Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Enterprise (from a MAPS account), but it isn't customized aside from not having the standard WinRT apps from a stock Win 8.1 install loaded - it is a stock install from the ISO.
From what I understand, it is the same as Windows 8.1 Enterprise, except that it is only licensed to be used as an "appliance" machine for a single role - which it is.  So I'm assuming that there are no actual differences from a "regular"
Windows 8.1 SKU that would cause this issue.  If I am completely mistaken about this, please notify me on it.  The reason I'm making this statement is in case there are any differences in Embedded 8.1 Industry Enterprise that I am not aware of.
Otherwise, I welcome any assistance that would target a "regular" version of 8.1 Enterprise.  NOTE:  Someone said to post this into the Windows Embedded forum, but the only one that exists is the one for POSready - and this is HARDLY the
POSready version of Windows Embedded that I'm using.

    Hi,
Did you use the policy Local Computer Policy\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update\Always automatically restart at the scheduled time?
I noticed an description "restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations" policy is enabled, then this policy has no effect." it means if system installed some updates which unneeds restart computer, this policy would has no effect.
In my opinion, your problem should not caused by WMP setting. please check your installed updates whether they need restart computer.
In addition, Power Managment in Control Panel also can prevent the schedule task running.
    Control Panel\System and Security\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings\Change advanced power settings\Sleep\Allow wake timers
Please make sure this option is enable.

employees. If one of the PC get freeze , it will cause lost of connection on all the PC on same switch, and i have to find the blocked PC, remove from network, restart switch and hope that they will came back on.
Does anyone experienced this problem? Any help will be appreciated
    Thank you!
List of updates for today below

    Hi
Thanks for your response, yes I understand that the result is a Broadcast Storm and yes I have the cheapest switch on market :/.
The interest fact is that on one PC, I changed everything and keep only the old HDD and on last updates yesterday it was one of the blocked one too. So this make
me doubt that is something wrong in software on that PC. I don't have any third-part programs except browsers and all have Genuine Win7
The only investigation remained is what happens during the update process?
    Is WSUS involved in something?
And another thing is the fact that some of the PC are cloned, but I have carefully changed the SID
    Thank you for your support

  • Windows Update stuck on downloading on Server 2012

    Hi,
Using VMWare Workstation 9, I created new virtual machine where I installed Windows Server 2012 Standard edition from MDSN disk en_windows_server_2012_x64_dvd_915478.iso  In the Server 2012 virtual machine, when I go to check for updates it says
there are important updates available so I click on Install Updates.  It then just gets stuck on downloading updates for hours and nothing ever happens.  Stuck at 0 KB total, 0% complete.  I am able to access web pages using Internet Explorer
with no problem so the machine does appear to have connectivity to the Internet.  If I go to help, click on "What can I do if I'm having problems installing updates?" and click on "Tab or click to open the Windows Update troubleshooter"
it says "Windows Online Troubleshooting Service is not enabled for this version of Windows."  Any suggestions or ideas?
    Thanks,
    Greg

I had a similar problem with a guest Windows 2012 R2 running on a Hyper-V host. I went to the network adapter in device manager in the guest and I disabled the "Large Send Offload Version 2 (IPv4)" option. Why? Well, this was also an issue previously when
guesting Windows 2008 where the symptom was an error 80072ee2 when retrieving updates. See this post
http://blog.ronnypot.nl/?p=310 for details. Anyway, I tried this and it worked for me. Hung before the change, worked after.

  • Software Update via Unix command but get updates from my OS X server?

I have a OS X server which I use to manage how software update runs on the clients. Currently when you run software update from the client it connects to the server and downloads what it needs which is much faster than downloading it via the internet each time.
now, I would like to run a unix command via ARD that would run software update against the local server. Does anyone know the correct syntax for this? Running softwareupdate -l -a does not work. Thanks

I'm also in the process of getting my Xserve setup as an internal software update server. I haven't gotten to the point of testing this yet, but I was under the impression that once the clients were managed, any software update command would force the clients to retrieve their updates from your internal server as specified in the MCX settings.
I have a OS X server which I use to manage how software update runs on the clients. Currently when you run software update from the client it connects to the server and downloads what it needs which is much faster than downloading it via the internet each time.
When you say that currently when you run software update from he client it connects to the server and downloads updates, are you referring to running the graphical Software Update tool?

  • Testing updates with a new WSUS server

We recently created a new WSUS server and added a test target group consisting of 6 test PCs. My question is if I approve updates tonight to just the target group, will I be able to push out those same updates to our staff PCs next Thursday? (We typically
approve updates on the 4th Thursday of the month for a 3:00am Friday install via our WSUS GPO.) Or will the staff PCs miss out on this month's updates due to the test push? I.e.: is it "one and done" with the approved updates.
    Thanks
    Hank Vare

A couple of thoughts to share....
First, with respect to your approvals. This is exactly why target groups exist. So if today (Thursday) you approve updates for the target group, then the computers in that target group will get these updates sometime over the next 24-48 hours (depending
on a lot of variables that affect the process from the time of approval to the time of installation). When you're ready to deploy them to more systems, you just ADD the approvals for the extra target group(s) that contain the additional systems.
Second... approving updates on Thursday for a 3am Friday installation is a procedure likely doomed to some percentage of failure. In fact, if you've already been doing this I'm surprised it hasn't already happened. So let's dive into some of those "variables"
I mentioned in the first paragraph and better understand the risks.
When you approve the updates, they have to be downloaded from Microsoft. That takes some amount of time.
AFTER the updates are downloaded from Microsoft, the client has to "check in" with the WSUS Server to see if there are any new/available updates to download. That "check in" could occur at anytime up to 22 hours AFTER the updates have
been downloaded (which, right here, already blows the 3am target).
When the client has discovered available update to download, then it actually has to download them AND the download has to complete before 3am Friday, or those updates will not be scheduled for installation at your weekly event.
NOW.. having said that, introducing a TEST GROUP may actually mitigate some of that risk -- unless your test group is also scheduled to install updates ONLY on Friday at 3am, in which case, some of your test group might not get any updates at all.
As a general rule, your initial approval of an update should be at least 48 hours in advance of the time in which you want the clients to actually install the updates. This gives the WSUS server several hours to download the updates, it accounts for the
up-to-22-hours that may lapse before the client discovers the updates as available, and it gives the client several hours to download the updates from the WSUS server, so they are on the local machine prior to the scheduled installation time.
Additionally, if there are downstream/replica servers involved in the environment, you'll need to add another 48 hours for each level of replication -- because replica servers get updates exactly like clients do.

  • Windows Update disabled on Terminal Services Server

No matter which administrative account I use, local or domain, Windows Update displays a "Windows Update is managed by your system administrator" message.
I have attempted to use the /admin switch when connecting to the server.
I have executed change user /install at the command prompt.
I have attempted to run from a console directly attached to the server.
I still cannot apply the updates.  The last update was in July 2014 and I need Windows Server 2008 SP2 installed for an application upgrade.  I did not install or configure this server.  The admin that did is no longer with the company and
    is not available for support.
    Any advice is appreciated.

I found the solution. There was a local Group Policy setting that had disabled Windows Update.  The steps to correct are below.
    Local Group Policy (gpedit.msc)
    -        User Configuration
    -        Administrative Templates
    -        Windows Components
    -        Windows Update
    -        Remove access to use all Windows Update features.
It had been set to enabled.  Changed to disabled and can now get and install updates.

  • Windows Update from COntrol Panel does not work??

    Hello,
regardless if it is common way to do so or not: Does anyone have experience with the "Windows Update" functions in WE8S?
I tried them upon a customers request, and I've seen that I could not get it to complete successfully when choosing the option in
Control Panel. It either hanged during "Downloading..." or at the "Preparing to install..." screen - I waited for many hours. But when I using the "Windows Update"
app from the start screen, updates were installed without any problems (OK, 1 has failed, but the process has completed). Of course, both methods have different look, maybe it is not the
    same...
As per Sean Limings' book it is no good idea to update systems in the field this way - shall I remove the functions from the system? What are you doing?
    Thanks,
    Willi K.

Maybe it was because of the number of updates (in my case there were 85 updates pending). After I succeeded installing via the "Windows Update" app from "Start Menu", there where two more updates, and update now worked when called from
control panel (at least one of them, KB2973201 still stolidly fails to install).

  • Table update from text file on server

How do I get a table in dreamweaver to update from a text
file thats on the server it will be posted on? Do I need to use
some sort of weird coldfusion or asp.net, or can i do it in basic
html. It would be sweet to make happen for my portfolio news
    section ... thanks!

    Hello,
What you need is to know the structure (fields) of your internal table LS_BKPF at runtime.
The standard SAP class CL_ABAP_TYPEDESCR contains Methods to describe not only repository structures but also variables used in your ABAP program.
DESCRIBE_BY_DATA : Description of data object type
DESCRIBE_BY_NAME : Description of object type using relative/absolute names
DESCRIBE_BY_OBJECT_REF : Description of object type using reference
DESCRIBE_BY_DATA_REF : Description of data object type using reference
Example on how to do this can be found here :
    [http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs;jsessionid=(J2EE3414700)ID1687263150DB21033411053326729243End?blog=/pub/wlg/2071|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs;jsessionid=(J2EE3414700)ID1687263150DB21033411053326729243End?blog=/pub/wlg/2071]
After you have retrieved the fieldnames of your internal table at runtime you can add them in the first line of your dataset.
    Success.

  • New WRT610Nv2 router preventing Windows Update from functioning properly

I have installed my new WRT610Nv2 router and everything is great except 1 thing. It does not allow Windows Vista Update to run successfully. The update process runs automatically, identifies the updates, but gives an Error Code 646 after it appears to run through the whole process. Even after my PC security and the Router Firewall are completely disabled, the update process is not able to complete successfully. I have since manually downloaded the updates and installed them, but I want to avoid doing this for every update.
What do I need to configure on my router to allow the Windows Update process to complete automatically.

Yes, I have completely disabled my firewall and security software on my PC and tried it. All my updates worked cleanly up until I installed the router. I use Norton Internet Security v17, and I my ISP is Rogers via cable.
Its difficult to pinpoint because Windows Update was able to scan my PC and determine which updates were needed (This would not happen with my firewall enabled), and the 3 updates appeared to run straight through to the end. I will try the laptop (wireless) but its still running XP.
I figure that there is some option on the router that I have not set that is interfering in the process. I installed the updates manually so at this point all I can do is wait until the next set of patches to recreate the problem.
