Windows Updates keeps BREAKING Office 2013, SkyDrive, ETC

Everytime I do the Updates my system and Office 2013 becomes completely unstable.
As a result I only do upgrades every 2 weeks. On Friday, April 24 I sat down to do my 2 week update and had almost 40 updates that had to be done. (goodbye 4 hours of my life)
After the updates, just like clockwork, office, sharepoint and onedrive stopped working. I am going to try to provide as much detail as possible so as to notify Microsost in hopes this stop and in case anyone else has the issues. I will also provide
the steps I took to fix some of the issues.
Note:
I am running Windows 8.1, 64-bit on HP-ENVY 17" touch laptop
I DO NOT have any virus', malware, etc. I have ran MalwareBytes, Windows Defender and Webroot (as I always do before and after updates)
I have office 2013 and subscribe to office 365 for business - I have a license key for Office 2013 but was told somewhere that it conflicts with the click-to-run we are forced to use with 365 so I only do the office 365 version
I do have Sharepoint Designer on my system as I am the administrator of our sharepoint site
I access our sharepoint documents via Windows Explorer
After the updates I have experienced the following
I tried to open a ppt, xls and doc file and nothing would open giving random errors. I then did the control panel --> office click to run --> change --> reinstall everything. I did this and then some of the documents opened fine (goodbye
another hour of my life)
After trying to open a file from my windows explorer in our sharepoint site I get a continuous and recoccuring popup from Microsoft OneDrive for Business that says "Sorry, we can't perform this action. Incompatible Office Products are installed
on your machine. If you have an administrator, please contact them for help." (The last part just makes me laugh because I AM the administrator)
This annoying popup NEVER stops. It keeps popping up every 60 seconds if I close it. I have kiiled the onedrive process, paused the syncing, killed the office click-to-run task. Shut down all office products. Nothing makes this stop except for a full reboot
Please HELP or tell me what to do so that I can once again open my sharepoint files (and all of my employees can do so as well!)

Hi,
"I tried to open a ppt, xls and doc file and nothing would open giving random errors." Could you please provide some of these errors to me? Then I can do some research based on the errors.
Based on your error message, please make sure you have installed this update:
February 10, 2015 update for Office 2013 (KB2920798)
We can also collect some event logs after the issues occur, press Win + R, type "eventvwr" in the blank box, press Enter.
Browse to Windows Logs -> Application, check if there are any logs about the issue.
You can send the logs to our email address, we will then help analyze the information. Please send the logs to this email address below:

  • Am i the only one that see's serious bugs with Windows Search index on Windows 8.1 and Office 2013?

So i originally had Windows 8 and Office 2013 installed. I noticed that alot of my emails in Outlook 2013 as well as contacts werent being indexed. I waited for windows 8.1 and did an upgrade hoping the 8.1 would fix the issue. It didn't.
So i formatted my hard drive, installed fresh windows 8.1, and office 2013, and let it Windows Index run. I see 2 things happening.
    A.) The indexer never completes
B.) the indexer takes up 40% cpu usage.
I tried rebuilding, creating index from new location, nothing seemed to work. I decided to prevent the indexer from searching Office apps (outlook and onenote) and low and behold it completes indexing.
I decided to try and format again and see if there was some bug causing the issue. So this week I formatted once agian, loaded Windows 8.1, installed updates, and loaded office 2013. Once again, my indexer
is stuck around 70k items and my processor usage on Searchindexer.exe is around 30-40%.
Is this a known bug with 8.1 and office?
    Brad Nelson MCSE/DCSE/A+/Network+/WCSP

    Hi,
I test in my environment, and Windows would finish the index, the CPU usage keeps in 29%, which my RAM is 8G.
Can you tell us how you let the Windows Index run?

  • Issue with Date and Time Picker on Windows 8.1 and Office 2013

We are having a issue with the Developer tool in Excel called the Date and Time Picker which puts a calendar field into the spreadsheet where you can select a date from the calendar popup
If we change this date field and then save and close and reopen it reverts back to the previous date before the change was made
If we do the same process on a Windows 7 machine with Office 2013 it saves the changes we made to the Date and Time picker field

    Hi jdono2,
    I'm using Windows 8 and Office 2013,and I can't reproduce this issue.
Please make sure you have already upgraded to the latest version of excel, try to reregister the MSCOMCT2.OCX.
Also you can try to use another date picker add-in to test this issue.

  • Acrobat 8 PDF printing with Windows 8.1/MS office 2013

I upgraded computer to Windows 8.1 and MS office professional 2013 and reinstalled adobe acrobat 8.
When I try to create pdf files from office 2013 document (Excel, Word, Publisher), computer freezes when window opens to select pfd document destination.
I tried opening office document in acrobat and try to create pdf file. I get pdf maker missing at this point.
Before updating computer I ran compatibility tool and it indicated my acrobat 8.3.1 was compatible with Windows 8.1; however noted that I needed to go to adobe website for help with adobe ExtendScript toolkit 2.  I don’t know what adobe ExtendScript toolkit 2 is and if it is associated with Adobe Acrobat or CS3.

I have no idea about the extend tool. You need to update to the latest version of AA 8, but it appears you are there with 8.3.1. You should print to the Adobe PDF printer. OFFICE 2013 is not compatible with the AA8 PDF Maker. So far I have only seen one person suggesting success with AA8 and Win8.1. If you can give details about your problem, we might be able to help, but you may not be successful. Only time and trial will tell.

  • Windows 8.1 - Microsoft Office 2013 Program Issues

After 8.1 Windows and Malicious software updates installed, I cannot open my MS Office 2013 programs without the Error with shortcut coming up and "The item Outlook.exe that the shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so the shortcut will no longer
work properly.  Do you want to delete it?"  Also when just clicking on a file, a window comes up to ask how do I want to open this file (see below).  I didn't do anything.  The PC just did updates upon shut down last night.
System restore didn't fix issue either.  Please help.

It sounds as though the executable (.exe) files are configured to open with notepad. Unfortunately you cannot manage .exe association with a launched application from the Default Programs Control Panel applet. You will need to reset the configuration of
the .exe association within the registry. The default configuration is:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe]
    @="exefile"
    "Content Type"="application/x-msdownload"
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe\PersistentHandler]
    @="{098f2470-bae0-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}"
I have exported these keys to a .reg file which you can download and merge on your system to replace the corrupted keys,
    the link is here.
Disclaimer: As editing the registry can produce an unstable system or even prevent the system from booting, it is only recommended for advanced users comfortable with the ramifications. It is recommended to
back up any keys that might be edited and to have a
    recovery environment available.

  • Automatic Windows Update keeps shutting off

I'm running windows 7 64-bit with Windows Defender, Windows firewall and ESET NOD32 anti-virus on a domain network.  Automatic updates keep switching from automatic to manual mode several times throughout the day.  Updates work fine, they just
don't remain in "auto" mode.  I've tried the following to fix the problem with no luck:
    1) Windows defender and ESET scans with nothing found
    2) Numerous on-line anti-virus / malware scans with nothing found (Housecall, Malwarebytes, etc.)
    3) Kapersky root-kit scan with nothing found
    4) Windows update Fix-IT applied
    5) All update services (BITS, Updater) set to autostart
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
I would like suggest you try the follwoing suggestions:
    1. Boot into
Clean Boot Mode and test the issue.
    2. Try System Update Readiness tool by referring to
What is the System Update Readiness Tool?
    3. You may try to Reset Windows Update components for check.

  • Replace Scenario : USMT Break Office 2013

Hi guys, in the midst of a project to refresh client Operating Systems - the refresh involves using the User State Migration Tool version 5 to capture user settings/preferences and data from old devices and restore to new machines once the Operating
System and applications such as Office are deployed.
SCCM infrastructure is 2012 SP1. Source/old machines are running Windows Vista or Windows 7, Office 2007 and have the Enterprise Vault Add-In for Outlook version 9.0.2.1136. Target/new machines have Windows 7 SP1, Office 2013 and Enterprise Vault Add-In
for Outlook version 10.0.3.1090. All operating systems are 32-bit.
USMT 5 has been extended with the hotfix for Office 2013 (new MigApp.xml) - otherwise the capture is effectively vanilla.
On machines where the User State Migration Tool is used every time Outlook is opened the following error is presented:
Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request.
If Outlook is started using outlook.exe /safe it opens without issue. If I disable the Enterprise Vault Add-In within Outlook, it opens without issue.
I’ve been through the following to no avail:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813745
    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH20486&profileURL=https%3A%2F%2Fsymaccount-profile.symantec.com%2FSSO%2Findex.jsp%3FssoID%3D1377114331330xz9e5SBBuT28VInhuBHCHNIlGKF39rjY1sr1c
Removing the Enterprise Vault Add-In and re-installing doesn’t resolve the issue, neither does the ResetEVClient.exe utility.
    Run fixmapi.exe to no avail.
A repair of Office itself fixes the problem, however this is not feasible across the thousands of machines we're looking to migrate!
What we have noted is that the issue affects every Windows profile on the machine, those copied over by the User State Migration Tool, but also new ones - so whatever is occurring is breaking Outlook/the Enterprise Vault Add-In for the machine, not a specific
    profile.
Finally, if we don't use USMT (not viable on the number of machines we have to replace!) I'm able to logon, and under a fresh user profile can open Outlook without issue.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know!
    MCTS 70-640 | MCTS 70-642 | Prince2 Practitioner| ITIL Foundation v3 | http://www.cb-net.co.uk

Finally have a workaround - known error caused by USMT. Working with MS PSS modification of the following reg key will resolve the issue without an Office repair:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Microsoft Outlook\MSIComponentID
Set this to the following value to resolve the issue: (6DB1921F-8B40-4406-A18B-E906DBEEF0C9}Initial tests excluding this from capture/restore via a custom XML but this doesn't seem to work.
We're now using the following Run Command Line step in the USMT Task Sequence to resolve the issue:
    reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Microsoft Outlook" /v MSIComponentID /t REG_SZ /d {6DB1921F-8B40-4406-A18B-E906DBEEF0C9} /f

    Hi,
The Activation Wizard will appear if your hard drive has
    changed a lot.
Check your product key and retype it. If you are sure that you type it correctly and still can’t activate Office, please do a phone activation in Office. The phone activation process will provide you with the appropriate phone number
to call. Explain to the service (Human being) that you can’t activate your Office.

  • Need Help! Ospprearm.exe not working with Windows 8 and Micorsoft Office 2013

I am running 64 bit win 8 and office 2013.  I searched in my whole PC and I found Ospprearm.exe in this location C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15
That was the only place I found ospprearm.exe.  When I opened it I got this error
There was an error when trying to rearm Office. You can try passing the SKU Id as a parameter. Passing the SKU ID is necessary if you are relying on activation to permit an additional rearm. Error: 0xc004f025
On a computer running Microsoft non-core edition, run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0xc004f025' to display the error text
I haven't rearmed Microsoft Office before with this technique before.
I really Don't know what happend.

    Hello Ethan
I am a bit worried since using Ospprearm.exe for office in my 64-bit version of Windows
8 original version apparently changes my CMID will it affect my Windows Profile adversely as well or only office? I am told this rearms
    does "the following tasks:
Resets the grace timer to 30 days.
Freezes the grace timer until either an Office application is run, or the ospp.vbs script is run.
Resets the client computer ID (CMID). This is important because the KMS host uses the CMID to determine the number of unique clients. To check the CMID, use the command ospp.vbs
/dcmid. For more information about ospp.vbs, see The ospp.vbs script.
Note: If you run this command on either Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012, it only returns to CMID for Windows,
not Office. To see the CMID for Office 2013, look for event 12288 in the Application Event log..."
Your clarification will be deeply appreciated thanks!!!

    Who cares who wins

    Seriously Microsoft?
Here's the thing, I received a call from my dear mom about this issue. She's not computer expert and never will be. She has no idea how to turn anything off from computer. But she's annoyed that she has to start up computer every
single time now twice because some one of Q&A fucked up. Your given solution is Invalid! Please come to solution what even 50 year old can do with out some sort understanding how to go ms config and disable startup programs and
    run disk checks.
This update confusion makes me want go and buy my mom Apple, and then you guys have meetings on MS wondering why apple does so good. This is the reason. Everyone aren't computer wizards and rather overpay things on first day than pay
to some long haired WoW player every single time when MS Q&A fuck's up. This is second time in 30 days when I have to travel to my moms house ( 140 miles ) fix something what you guys fucked up.
Next time I send you a bill and you can debate abut it in EU highest court.
Wow, that's pretty harsh, Taavi.  You seem to have a pretty narrow-minded idea of how many
hundred of thousands of different configurations Microsoft has to support with a single, unified update system.  Go get your mom an Apple - see how that works out for you.  Something tells me you haven't
bitched or moaned about the hundreds of other updates that DID seamlessly, automatically and silently install - but now you're all venom and hate towards Microsoft for missing a small detail somewhere in in a massive list of possible configurations.
You might try using RDP or some other readily available tool to allow remote access to the box without having to drive 140 miles to dear mom's house.  That's how I take care of my parent's machines, and it's worked well for me.  Then again, I like
seeing my parents - any chance I get, and I generally get a home cooked meal out of the deal.
If you can stop acting like a douche bag long enough to actually try and troubleshoot the problem, you likely would have figured out of to solve this issue yourself.  You're one of those kinds of people who LOVE to Bandwagon-bash Microsoft
when it's convenient for you, but the rest of the time you silently LOVE to use their products.
Whatever you do, don't give Microsoft any credit for their successes - that bitter pill just might drive you over the edge.
Flames aside, here's what I did to get these particular updates to install.  It seems that KB2515325 is the hinge that's making or breaking these installs from working one-after-another.  I installed all the updates I could, did a reboot, and was
left with the 4 KB's mentioned.  I didn't download the standalone updates, either - I used Windows Update.  Here's what I did to get them all to install on my 64-Bit system:
Install KB2492386 by itself - unselect all other updates
    Reboot
Install KB2515325 by itself - unselect all other updates
    Reboot
Install KB2522422 by itself - unselect all other updates.  I was not asked to reboot after this update.
Check for updates again, and you should only have KB982018 left.  Install KB982018.
Reboot one last time, then everything will hopefully have taken.
If that works for you, Taavi, be sure and give me your address so I can send
you a bill for providing you step-by-step instructions.

  • Windows update keeps updating automatically

    Hello,
We currently have a windows server 2012 in our office and I've set automatic updates to 'download but let me install them'. Reason for this is that Windows automatically would restart the server when everyone is working in the office, and every time I've
changed the settings to 'download but let me install them' - windows changes the settings back to automatically install updates a few sign ins later. This is becoming a problem. Do you know how to change this?

    Hi Michael,
Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
Firstly suggest you to try resetting windows update components by following link.
How do I reset Windows Update components?
In addition, please try to configure the GPO setting according to the below mention link and check the result.
No auto-restart for scheduled Automatic Updates installations
    More information.
    1. How to configure automatic updates by using Group Policy or registry settings
    2. Windows Update and Automatic Reboots
