Windows Users Accessing Public Folder

I would like to know the way to allow Windows users to access only the Public folder on my mac.
When I try to access folders from Windows I go to My Network Places and click on the icon representing my Mac then I'm prompted for a password; as I have only my account on the Mac I have to put my user ID and password, thus allowing access to all my folders - not only Public.
I know that Mac users can access Public, but how to allow the Windows camp to do that?
17' PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.4)

SharePoints is a great tool to allow access to peripheral drives, volumes, and the like. But you shouldn't have to use it to access the Public folder via a PC as you can a Mac. That is a very big question on the boards that has yet to be answered.
Apple says it happens. If so, what's the secret to accessing the Public folder via a PC.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.

  • Exchange 2013 Users cannot access Public folder in Exchange 2007 SP3

    Dears,
i am working in Upgrading Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 CU7,, I came to know with CU7 we have new way for coexistence with legacy Public Folder
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn690134(v=exchg.150).aspx
i did the steps exactly as it is in the article,  but now users in Exchange 2013 always prompt for username /password when opening outlook and i found they still trying to connect to Exchange 2007 PF Server using HTTPS and failed..
BTW, Outlook anywhere is disabled in EX2007 and as per this article Q/A , it is no more needed
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2014/11/07/on-premises-legacy-public-folder-coexistence-for-exchange-2013-cumulative-update-7-and-beyond.aspx
the issue now, still users getting prompted and cannot connect to PF in EX2007,,
    your help is appreciated
    thanks

I ran into the same situation recently, and found out that you need to make sure InternalClientsRequireSSL is set to false.
To verify: Run Get-OutlookAnywhere | fl Identity, *ssl
If it is true, try setting it to false.

  • Can't access Public folder as guest

Since installing Leopard computers on the network will not connect to my Public folder as guest.
When trying to access the Public folder under 10.4 the "Guest" option is grayed out, although connecting as a user (entering user/pass) is possible.
When trying under 10.5, once I select the computer name from the Finder's window left menu "Connection Failed" appears on the dark-grey bar at the top. Still, like in Tiger, connecting as a user is possible, but when trying to disconnect by pressing the "Disconnect" button on top nothing happens. I get the same "Connection Failed" message and the user remains logged.
Where I may have messed up: I have 2 accounts in my computer (1 admin, 1 standard). I almost never use the admin account so I deleted it's Public folder from "Shared Folders" under Sharing in System Preferences. Then, on the standard account I deleted by mistake the "Staff" group from it's Public folder permissions. When trying to add "Staff" back, the option is not available.
All of that may have nothing to do with my problem, but I know very little about Unix, so who knows.
Any ideas as to why no one can access my Public folder as guest?

That would be in the case I wanted a Guest Account on my same computer to be able to access my Public folder. My problem is with computers on the network. Thanx anyways

  • Authenticate windows users accessing os x client using open directory?

I need to setup an OS X client machine (10.4.6) so that windows users (XP) can access folders based on their open directory credentials. (Using OS X server, open directory, windows PDC). If I turn on windows sharing in system preferences on the mac, it will only share local home folders to users with local accounts - not what I need. Any ideas? thanks.

Thanks!  So now I see Open Directory, but it seems like it should be listed under the Server app with all the other services...
Anyhow, I seem to remember a way to administer the users and groups.  This app shows me the status of the services, logs, settings.  The Server app, if I click on Add Users button, then click "connect to it" to supposedly connect to the directory server, it won't take my credentials.  I always get "Cannot authenticate to server.  Please authenticate by entering the name and password of a user account in this server's directory."
Connect anonymously doesn't seem to do anything, it doesn't even dismiss the dialog.
    So what am I missing?

  • Windows users - "Access Account" gets disabled by server every night?!?

I have an OS X Server 10.4.7 on a new Mac Pro in our office. All of my windows users connect to a basic Windows fileshare using the server's IP, then I map the network drives, so they should auto connect. I connect the users, verify the connection, log out, log back in, the drives re-connect like normal. However, TWICE now, I verify that thye all work, then the next morning (or over the weekend), it's like the OS X Server disabled everyone's accounts, except mine (i'm an adminstrator account). Nobody can get to their shares, and all the "Access Account" checkboxes on all my users are unchecked.
I have Open Directory set as an OD Master, with default policies.
Under Windows I have it set as a PDC (I'll migrate my old domain accounts once I have the server working, unless this is my whole problem)
I disabled the file share of "users", but I can't see why that would be my problem. It works until overnight, seemingly.
    Ideas?

    System.log has thousands of these:
    Sep 18 07:47:32 Genesis1 kernel [0]: (11997: ps) ftp: failed on 0:
asl.log has a bunch of these:
[Time 2006.09.18 17.29.48 UTC] [Facility daemon] [Sender DirectoryService] [PID 63] [Message Failed Authentication return is being delayed due to over five recent auth failures for username: anish.] [Level 1] [ UID -2] [GID -2] [Host Genesis1]
The only thing I've set up on any machine is network drive connections, and I manually entered names and passwords. Not sure if XP is doing anything else on its own.

  • Let users access personal folder when using webdav on iPad

    Hi,
I am setting up Lion server so users on an Active Directory network can access webdav folders from iPads.
I have got this working fine when accessing a shared multi user folder.
I want users to also be able to access their own personal folders, with no one else being able to access the folder.
I can share the Users folder but this will give each user access to other users folders how can I fix this?
    Thanks

I am still waiting for an answer.    If you don't know the answer, but know who to ask or where to look to find an answer, I'd really appreciate it.

  • Start-up script to access public folder on iMac from iBook

I have a public folder on my iMac (running Leopard) that I can access from my iBook (running Tiger) by routing through with Finder each time I start up my iBook. I would like to have a script automatically run at start up on my iBook to connect to the public folder on my iMac. If the iMac is powered on, the connection is to be made; if the iMac is off, obviously the connection is not made, but the iBook does not hang-up, it continues without the public folder connection.

Well this can be done with some caveats. Here is what I did(on Tiger iBook G3( I didn't try on my Panther ibook G4), but it should work on that too. Forgive me. This G3 is a tester so....) and some explanations about it.
I made a unix executable with pico in Terminal. Ran chmod u+x on it. Called it contoamac.
    #!/bin/bash
    open afp://192.168.0.6/
The 0.6 is my other machine(your iMac per se) with Leopard. I put the executable in my iBook(your iBook also as reference) in Sys.Pref., Accounts,LoginItems. Only turned on sharing on Leopard machine. But you either have to catch the Leopard machine awake or set it in energy savings to never sleep. Possibly you could have both machines never go to sleep and that would work unless there is a time out on server uptime. Rebooted ibook and it autoed to login password(to do with no pass is another story involving visudo, etc.) on Connect to server menu. I know I have forgotten something to explain.
I'm going to run this reboot and try and get a quick screen shot of boot/connect process next. Right back. Whew!

  • Two Windows users accessing the same Datebook (Palm Desktop)

I have a Vista machine that has Palm Desktop 6.2 installed. My wife sometimes needs to access the calendar to add dates, etc. I set up the Vista machine for remote desktop and gave her an account so that she doesn't kick me out of my session. When she launches Palm Desktop, she can only create a new user/profile, not access the one that's already there. How can I accomplish this? Thanks!
    Post relates to: Zire 31

Palm desktop doesn't support the fast user switching thus the problems you are running into. I think the closest you are going to get to in order to share this data is a program called SyncUs.
They have a current version that is in beta that is compatible with Palm Desktop 6.2 if that is something you want to give a try.

  • Two users accessing same folder at once?

I want to access the same physical folder containing an iTunes library simultaneously. One, my wife's, is used for synching to an iPod; the other, mine, is used for importing CDs. Since these options cannot be performed using the built-in library sharing feature, using network access to a shared folder seems the best idea.
What issues will I run into with such sharing? I'm particularly concerned with what happens when a new CD is imported; at what point will its tracks become visible on the other computer? If there are problems, what are the solutions? Is the idea fundamentally sound?
    Thanks!

  • Access Public Folder in Exchange

Using CF8, I currently can access mailboxes and folders in my
exchange information store except for folders in the public store.
Does anyone know how to access information in the public folders
    using CF8's exchange tags.

    Has anyone figured this out?
This would be an incredibly useful feature.  Perhaps there is a way to do this by interacting directly with the Java?

  • Public Folder access on Exch 2007 from exch 2013 user

I have an issue with my test user that I migrated from 2007 to exch 2013 being able to access public folders that reside on the 2007 server. 2007 users accessing public folders on 2007 have no issues. I have it narrowed down to autodiscover. Please see the
below exerpt from autodiscover. The "<PublicFolderServer>ex2013.accessDOMAIN.net</PublicFolderServer>" section shows that autodiscover is giving the name of the exchange 2013 server as the publicfolderserver
instead of the exchange 2007 server.  My question is how do I reflect the correct server "Exch2007" on this autodiscover output?

    Hi,
I have found an article said that we need to set the external host name the same. See more details in the following link:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/mspfe/archive/2013/10/21/upgrading-to-on-premises-exchange-server-2013.aspx
To allow your Exchange 2013 Client Access server to redirect connections to your Exchange 2007 servers, you must enable and configure
Outlook Anywhere on all of the Exchange 2007 servers in your organization. If some Exchange 2007 servers in your organization are already configured to use Outlook Anywhere, their configuration must also be updated to support Exchange 2013.
The following configuration is set on each Exchange 2007 server:
The Outlook Anywhere external URL is set to the external hostname of the Exchange 2013 server.

  • Windows user cannot see files copied into a folder

File share is on a Windows 2008 (R1) server.
We use shared folders as mailboxes for users.  When the file scanning person (Heidi) scans the incoming paper mail, it is placed in each user's individual mail folder on a shared drive.  Each user has full control permissions on their mail folder.
All of our users are running Windows 7 Pro x64, with the exception of two people who run Windows XP SP3.  Heidi is one of those users.
Angela has a mail folder with full control permissions.  When Heidi scans something from her desktop and places it in Angie's mail folder, Angela cannot see it from her computer.  Anyone else can see it fine.
I set up a Windows 7 VM and logged in as Angela and I can see the file with no problems.  So the only time Angie can't see her files is when she's logged in to her computer in her own office.  Anyone know why?

    Hi,
You did not mentioned the system version of Angela so I assume it is a Windows 7 system.
There is a known issue when Windows 7 users accessing a folder, newly created or deleted files are not updated immediately. Please test the following hotfix.
SMB2 directory cache is not updated correctly if a file is deleted in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2646563/en-us
Also the rollup update is always recommended to be installed:
An enterprise hotfix rollup is available for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
