Windows Virtual PC And XP Mode After Support Stops

I paid extra to get a version of Windows 7 that ran a virtual PC. I require this for my work.
What solution is available for me after Microsoft stops support for XP?

Because Microsoft are discontinuing support for XP, they are effectively ending support for Win 7 Professional.
I feel as though Microsoft need to release a replacement for Win 7 Professional users that addresses this, and delivers a secure safe shell to replace XP mode. Either that, or refund Win 7 Professional users their purchase price.
You quoted a Q&A. Can I ask when this Q&A was produced? I cannot recall reading it when I purchased Win 7 Professional, and because it says "Windows
XP extended support phase ends in 2014" I strongly suspect it is only a recent statement to cover the obvious paradox Microsoft have created for themselves by ending XP support while it still remains an inherent component of the Windows 7 Professional
product - a product that is supposed to be supported.
Thanks for the answer Prof. Appreciate it.

  • Windows Virtual PC and XP Mode refuses to start after update 25 February 2014

I have been using Virtual PC and XP Mode now successfully for more than 1 year. I am running Windows 7 Profession on a i7-2600 with 8 GB
But after the update on 25 February 2014 to both the XP Mode and Windows 7, my Virtual PC no longer works. It loops continuously and never starts.
Is anyone else having this problem? Are there any hot fixes? We have our accounting and address management system running in XP mode, so this is quite important to find a fast solution.
    Thanks very much
    David

    Hi,
Rename the .vsv (virtual machine saved states) file in "C:\Users\[user id]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows
Virtual PC\Virtual Machines",then start the VM again.
As a test, you can also uninstall the newly installed updates, check whether this issue is related with the updates. Generally, Windows Updates will not cause any issues, but if some software installed in your system conflicts with it or the updates
not installed correctly, it will cause some unexpected issues.

  • Windows Update Stalls When Running in Windows 7/Windows Virtual PC/Win XP_ Mode

    Hi
This is Bob in Tallahassee. Can anyone please help.  I installed Win7 Pro on a newly built PC and then Windows Virtual PC/Win XP Mode.  When I try running Windows Update in the XP mode window, it keeps cycling "searching for updates"
and never reaches the next step, never stops cycling.  I checked msconfig and there is a process "svchost.exe" eating 99% of resources.   It is likely related to windows update. When I shut it down, my internet connection is cut
off, but the Windows Update still keeps cycling. I have tried all I know, including optimizing bios for virtualization.  Is there another setting that I'm missing?    Thanks.  Bob

  • Cisco Jabber for Windows in Extend and Connect mode and making outbound calls

    Hi guys,
I've set up Cisco Jabber for Windows to use Extend and Connect to control a remote PBX endpoint. I've configured the required CTI-RD device, remote destinations, associated the users to the line and added the devices to end-user controlled device. The extend and connect part is working flawlessly without any issues. I'm able to receive inbound calls on the remote PBX endpoint and control the call (hold, resume, transfer etc.) using the Jabber call window that pops up.
However, I'm unable to make any outbound calls via the Jabber client when in extend and Connect mode. Reading the Extend and Connect guide, I need to configure Dial Via Office (DVO) Reverse. So when the user initiates a Dial-Via-Office reverse call, CUCM calls and connect to the Extend and Connect device (CTI-RD). CUCM then calls and connects to the number the user dialled and finally connects the two call legs.
After attempting to configure DVO-R for Jabber for Windows in Extend and Connect mode following the CUCM feature services guide, i'm unable to get any outbound calls working. From RTMT, i am receiving the following Termination Cause Code: (27) Destination out of order. What i also notice is that there is no calling number for that trace either. I would've thought that the calling party would've been the Enterprise Feature Access (EFA) number.
Has anyone got this working or can provide some guidance?
    Thanks.

  • Installing the New Virtual Machine and XP Mode in Win7x64 on the Intel 2x E5-2620 Architecture (12 cores, 24 cpus)

I have been hibernating quietly at school with an Intel Core Duo T7300 on XP, and have been insulated from the madness of multi-core processors.  I gather that there were problems with installing the XP Virtual Machine on Vista under Quad architectures,
but that these eventually got resolved in 2009.
The newer problem is concerned with installing the XP Virtual Machine on Win7x64 with greater than four cores in the cpu architecture.  Others have mentioned this problem over this past Summer 2012.  The problem is that at the very last step of
the complete install, Win7x64 reports a failure to install the XP Virtual Machine, and with no further comment.
Apparently KB/2519949 gave a temporary (MSFT qualifies this as "temporary") hotfix solution to this problem for AMD 8-core chips in the Bulldozer series.  However MSFT cautions that this problem requires further research.  This was earlier
    this Summer 2012.
My problem is that I have an Intel 2xE5-2620 duo-processor cpu architecture (2x6=12 cores, 24 cpus in Windows).  The cpu architecture is both Intel, and with far more than the old standard of four cores.  The XP Virtual Machine in Win7x64 will
    not install, as described above.
I have an armload of new 64-bit software all of which has installed pristinely in Win7x64 under this 2xE5-2620 Intel architecture.  However, I have one very important piece of legacy (latest version incompatible beyond XP type of legacy) technical writing
software that is critical to my PhD thesis.  In need the XP Virtual Machine for this, and I have no idea how to get it.  My PhD thesis supervisor also needs this particular piece of "legacy" technical writing software for his new book on Probability
    Theory.

I have news about this issue with XP Mode on Workstation machines.  I have actually known about this for a couple of months, but it has not been until these Christmas 2012 holidays that I have had a chance to follow up with an implementation.
In review, I purchased a Workstation computer for scientific computation purposes this past August 2012.  My chipset is an Intel 2x E5-2620 for a total of 12 cores, and it turns out that this was not the problem for XP Mode.  My OEM shipped this
machine with Windows 7, but without XP Mode, and there is a reason why.
As an aside, it should be mentioned that the main line MSFT OS, Windows 7 or 8, is what I want for this machine, and not Server 2012.  The reason is that most of the scientific computation and technical writing software that I use is written only for
Windows, and not for Server.  Then also hopefully Hyper-V can do in Windows 8 most of what XP Mode is doing for me in Windows 7.
My dealer was able to tell me, when he got back from holidays in late September, that the reason that XP Mode failed to install on this Workstation, and the reason it was not included by the OEM, was that the original HDD configuration was for RAID (3 available
bays) and formatted for drives of at least 1TB in size.  Although the original HDD installation was only a single HDD with only 500GB, the machine was equipped to have something much larger installed.  But this format excluded the possibility of
    XP Mode.
So we changed the hard drive installation to something that I preferred.  We installed Windows 7 on a 480GB SSD, and I installed all my software on this drive, as well as all my important data.  Most importantly, since this drive is less than 1TB,
we could use the MBR format which allows XP mode.  Then we also formatted the original HDD of 500GB in MBR, and decided to run it with Intel RST.  This second drive is for unimportant data, and large files.  For backup we chose a 2TB USB 3.0
external.  In this setting, installing Windows XP Mode was easy, as the only thing we needed to do was modify BIOS to enable virtualization which was part of the Intel 2x E5-2620 chipset already.
I am very pleased with XP Mode. The scientific writing software for my thesis that I was worried about does actually run in Windows 7 under compatibility mode, but there have been some huge advantages to installing in in XP Mode as well. I still have licensed
copies of Office 2003, Acrobat Pro 9, and MathType 5.2, and other old software as well. I now have all new software, for example Office 2010 (64-bit), Acrobat Pro 10 (32-bit for 64-bit), and MathType 6.8 (64-bit), and lots of other things. However, now that
I have my scientific wrtiting software (for which the maker has not caught up with Windows Vista/7) installed in XP Mode, I have also installed WORD 2003 with MathType 5.2 in XP Mode. My scientific writing software can translate WORD 2003/MathType 5.2 in RTF
format to LaTeX. So lets hope these guys eventually catch up with Windows 7 and 8.
I am also using XP Mode to archive a large block of my old data from the XP days. I still have licensed copies of the out of date software. And I would rather not update every single old file I have to a current format. So altogether, XP Mode is working
out quite well.  It is very fast with my Intel 2x E5-2620 and maximum RAM.

  • Windows 7 loopback and XP mode loopback cannot see each other

I have a loopback adapter set up on my Windows 7 machine with the ip 192.168.199.199. I also have a loop back adapter setup in XP mode with the address 192.168.199.200.
I have a VPN client setup in XPMode that successfully connects to my work network.
I've set up routing in Win7 to route all addresses for my work VPN through the XP mode's loopback adapter. Alas I can't ping either loopback adapter from the "other" mode. i.e. 192.168.199.199 is pingable from Windows 7 but not from XPMode and vice versa. I connect to the web using a wirelessly but the connection is available.
Could there be any reason why the two loopback adapters are unavailable to each other?
I followed the following tutorial to a tee but no joy.
    http://jmpstart.wordpress.com/2009/09/16/safenet_softremotelt_on_windows_7/
    Thanks
    Mark

I've been fooling with this for the past three hours.  No matter how I configure the Loopback adapter, it isn't included in the list of network adapters for my XPMode VPC.
After installing the adapter I configured my WIFI adapter (the one with the actual connection) to share its connection with the Loopback.  After doing that I was warned its IP address was changing to 192.168.137.1.
    So far so good.
My VPC is powered down (and I've recycled a few times, too), and when edit its settings and go to "Networking" my Loopback adapter is.... not listed.

  • Issues with POWL action buttons and row selection after Support Packs

We recently applied ECC 603 Support Stack 16 to our environment and are having problems with some SAP standard POWL lists (example is KYKOP-OPS-MM-PO-W: Purchase Orders for Goods Receipt).  In fact all of the POWL lists that we are using are behaving the same way.  There are 2 changes that have happened after moving to this stack.
    1.  In order to select a row in the list, we now have to press ctrl + click, previously, just clicking the the row would select it and fire the OnLeadSelection
    2.  All of the Action Buttons in the POWL lists are disabled.
I have debugged the Feeder Class /KYK/CL_MM_FEEDER_PO and see in th GetActions method and see that the ls_actions-enabled is getting set to true, but for some reason the buttons are disabled when the list is rendered.
I've checked a side-effects report from OSS and have come up empty handed.  Has anyone else run into this?
    Eric

I have found an OSS note that addresses this problem.  This problem will effect anyone who is using ALV for ABAP WebDynpro after applying BASIS Support Pack 20 for 7.0.  The OSS note is 1363334.  Question Answered.

  • Photoshop, Windows 7-64bit and True - 8 Core Support

Doing a Workstation build for my Daughter, her studies are in Graphics Design and Animation. I am concern about Photoshop CS support for true muilt-core systems; namely more then two cores, and 64 Bit OS.
Would like to kick off her new system correctly the first time with no problems.
    These are the Hardware and Items I am hoping to use;
    Supermicro H8SGL-F, supports one 8 or 12 core (G34) Processors, Supports up to 128GB DDR3 1333
    AMD Opteron Magny-Cours CPU 6128 ; 8-Core, 2GHz
NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800 or FX 3800, both with Elemental Accelerator
    Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

I think it falls apart here:
    Photoshop CS
Unless, of course you really mean CS4/ CS5, not that legacy software. Still, even then, PS will rarely ever use, what you call, "true 8 cores". Most normal operations are simply not that computationally intense. Unless you use Merge to HDR, Panorama Merge, Content Aware Fill and 3D al lthe time, the system is considerably overpowered.

    Hi Fernando,
Here's a statement that hopefully helps or at least solves your mystery:
While Protected Mode can be disabled for PDFs viewed with the product, Adobe continues to protect you when 3rd party software invokes a Reader process; that is, Protected Mode sandboxing cannot be disabled for shell extensions. For example, when you use Windows Explorer to preview a PDF in the Preview Pane, it starts a Reader process to display the preview. In such cases, Task Manager shows that two AcroRd32.exe processes spawn and that the operation is occurring with Protected Mode enabled.

More likely it is a hardware defect.
    Have you restarted your phone?
If so, and the issue has persisted, backup your phone and restore it from a backup, then restore as new.
If neither of those resolves the issue, make an appointment at an Apple store near you and have a Genius examine it as it's most likely a hardware failure.

  • Windows XP mode/ Windows virtual PC

I have to support some LV7.1 programs (along with newer versions).  I just bought a new laptop with Windows 7 Home 64-bit.  LV7.1 loads and runs, but the drivers disk pukes on the 64-bit OS.  (This was not unexpected...)
The new PC does have an Intel processor that will support Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP mode.
I will need to upgrade to W7 Pro, but before I do, I'd like to get some feeling that it will all work.  Should older NIDaq, MAX, etc. install OK in XP mode?  Has anybody done this?  Is there another solution that is better?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Seth,
    Thanks for the speedy reply.
I try to use NI-DAQmx, but I won't swear that I don't have traditional DAQ routines out there.  I would like to run real hardware (USB DAQ) on my new laptop, de-bug and burn executables.
What are my options?  I could keep LV7.1 on my old desktop, newer versions on my new laptop.  Would I be running afowl of LV's EULA?  Does NI care about antique versions of LV?
I see that NI-DAQmx 9.0 supports versions LV8.2.1, 8.5.1 and 8.6.1.  If I put these on my 64-bit, will executables I make run on 32-bit target systems?
I don't want to flush Windows 7 64-bit to install the 32-bit.  I want it all!
My company has let my subscription lapse.  I don't have LV 2009.  Not much chance of an upgrade this year...

    John Spencer
