Windows Vista 64-bit - ITunes died and won't reinstall
Last night my wife let her laptop battery run dry with itunes 10 open. We had just installed it a week or so ago, and had not updated from the online download version.
Anyhow, afterward, when I tried to open iTunes, MS would pop up with a message that the program failed to open properly. The laptop is Windows Vista 64-bit with the 64-bit software.
I uninstalled, restarted, reinstalled, restarted, and tried again. Seemed to install correctly, but still got the crash when attempting to open.
Tried QuickTime, it also will no longer open. Uninstalled both, and no when I try to install iTunes, it goes through the gathering information process of the install, but then pops up with a window saying the installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured.
I downloaded Windows Install Utility v. 3, but it shows iTunes and QuickTime completely removed (at least no entries were in their to remove).
I also redownloaded the iTunes .exe, with the same results. Even tried the 32-bit, heh, which obviously didn't work, but worth a shot I suppose.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
I did a backup of the registry and went through and hard delete most of the iTunes entries, with no success, so I just restored the registry to the original since I wasnt 100% sure that I should be doing that.Below are the two most recent problem reports for each of the three programs. No other programs had any recent problem reports. One interesting thing, from the time stamps, there are no crash reports from the last few iTunes install attempts which were giving the message from above and the latest attempt where it just flickers then doesn't do anything else.

Just downloaded Firefox 4 on Windows Vista 32-bit and its not working at all.
So I just downloaded Firefox 4 on Windows Vista 32-bit, and it's not working at all. I open up Firefox and there is not tab bar, and all the command buttons are repeated 3 times, and are on 3 different bars. This only happens with Firefox 4 and not Firefox 3.6.10. Also, when I go the menu bar and I try to click soething, nothing happens. I'm not sure why this is going on. Help anyone? Here is a link to a screenshot of my browser.
http://img683.imageshack.us/i/firefox4y.jpg/I have this too, but doesn't even startup now? I downgraded to the previous version and all is OK. I also have a 64 bit version of Vista and it seems to work "a-OK" on that machine.
Seems to me to be 32-bit issue.
Editing this post:
I just seen a possible answer...Do you have roboform installed (in the taskbar also)? If so, try disabling it or removing it and try to start again. I said above that I have 2 units and on the one (32-bit) I have Roboform installed and it crashes, but on the other one I don't...so go figure.
According to the report I read, if you upgrade Roboform it should be OK, although I have not tested as of yet...I am still at work...
Hope that helps... -
Unknown error -50 while syncing CONTACTS in Windows Vista 64 Bit & iTunes 9
My operating environment: Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit; iTunes 9.0.2.25. iPod is Classic 80 GB, setup for a hard rive also. Music sync is fine. iPod plays the music tracks fine.
Problem: Few days back I tried to sync my "contacts" from my Windows Mail. This worked fine. But, I noticed that my Contacts in the Windows Mail had dupicates and not in proper sequence (last name, first name). So, I spent a lot of time in fixing the records in Windows Mail. I then re-synced the revised Contacts with my iPod. The sync process ended quickly normally, but, nothing changed in the iPod - still showing old records. I tried this sync process couple of times, but no chnage!
Next, I went to Windows Explorer and opened the Computer, and RT-clicked on the iPod icon and opened the properties and deleted the file shown on the hard drive/iPod. and then resynced again. Now I got an error message: "The ipod "--------" cannot be synced. An unlnown error occurred (-50).
Can some one please tell me: 1) how to sync the contacts so they show my new, revised contacts? and 2) how to get rid of this -50 error?
Thank you.Hi,
I unfortunately have no solution but same error is occuring on mine as well. Also Vista. It happened first 2 days ago after having sync my ipod to latest software 1.1.2 I have then updated to iTunes 9 but no change. Music is seeming to update but the error maintains. If we as user have no idea whom could we contact at apple to get pro help? I mean we are purchasing expensive stuff and we could expect some help. all the best Matt -
Windows vista tells me iTunes has stopped working when I try to sync iPod
I recently downloaded the newest version of iTunes (8.0.2.20), thanks to its incessantly asking me to. Since I downloaded, every time I attempt to sync to my iPod classic, Windows tells me iTunes has stopped working and forces me to close the program. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not sure if it's taboo on these boards or not, but this is just a friendly "bump" to see if it might catch the eye of someone who has discovered a fix for this behavior.
I did discover a couple of suggestions in my research, neither of which proved helpful to me. The first was to disable the sync function for contacts with Outlook (no joy). The second was to delete the Sync Services folder (which I "temporarily" deleted, but still no joy).
I have found resources that purport to provide sync control over your iPod without using iTunes. They look to be about a $40 gamble, but I may have to try that route (but would really hope that one of the smart people here would have ideas beyond Apple's "elementary "R's"").

How to install Flash Player with Windows Vista 64 bit?
IE 9, Windows Vista 64-bit, Flash Player quit working and won't install. Error Adobe Flash Player 11.1.102.55. I have deactivated User Accounts and Security, gone to Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash and Run as Administrator NPSWF32_FlashUtil, and still not working. One suggestion was to run an add-on from Macromedia, but that failed and I don't know what the add-on was. Have also run System Restore and restored all my Internet security setttigs to default. Nothing is working!

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers that are all different. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.
The above requested information can be found on the side, back, or bottom of your computer.
Most driver packages available from most computer manufacturers and chipset providers contain setup information for both 32 and 64 bit operating systems. The installer determines the version to install based on the indentified operating system. This is an industry wide pratice and nothing is wrong.

I had been updating my Windows Vista 64 bit system and as a result of a problem, had to reboot my system. Afterwards, I was no longer able to access iTunes. I got a message stating that there was a problem with some of the files associated with the application. A phone rep at Apple's Customer Service provided me with emails linking instructions on completely uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. I did the uninstall, then checked for lingering iTunes files and couldn't completely remove some, but tried intalling the latest version of iTunes. It has been running for roughly 24 hours. The status bar is green all the way across, and when I try to cancel, I get the following message: "Are you sure you want to cancel iTunes installation?" I keep hitting "no," but am staring to wonder if there is a problem with the install. Should it take this long if I have roughly 134 gigs of music? I can still see the music in my computer's C drive, so I am worried that there is an error, perhpas because I didn't clear out all the lingering C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\ and all the lingering C:\Program Files\iTunes\. Any thoughts?
It is not just the HP. I have 3 HP computes and 2 Dell computers. 2 of the HP and 1 Dell suffer the iTunes internet block. Took me a while to figure it out also. But, the one thing that is different on the Dell, is that I can leave iTunes installed and not open it and everything works. As soon as I open it, internet access goes down. BUT secure sites (https:) works fine.

Can't install itunes on windows vista 64 bit
I'm trying to install itunes on a windows vista 64 bit machine but keep getting the error message "could not access network location %appdata%\." Does anybody know what is the matter?
could not access network location %appdata%\
It looks like it's having trouble getting one of the iTunes preference files in. There's a couple in each user account (usually in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes and C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes).
Has a version of iTunes previously been successfully installed on that PC? If so, was it working properly prior to your doing the current installs?
What hard drive is your "Users" folder on? Is it the C drive or somewhere else?
If it's somewhere else, are your Program files also on that other drive or are they on the C drive? -
Setting up iTunes on Windows Vista 64-bit
Make this a sticky please, I dont want to type it twice
In the 64-bit versions of Windows there are two locations for programs to be stored by default.
Program Files - All the 64-bit applications that can run with out any assistance from the 32-bit emulator.
Program Files (x86) - All the 32-bit applications that need the 32-bit emulator to help then run under the 64-bit versions Windows.
Problem
When installing the latest version of iTunes (7.3.1.3) on Windows Vista 64-bit the install of the QuickTime software completes successfully, however when the iTunes software tries to install the application it produces an error message saying that it cannot find the QuickTime installation.
This is happening because QuickTime software is getting installed in the Program Files (x86) since it is not a 64-bit application. And the iTunes application specifically looks for it in the Program Files directory. I don’t know why the Apple iTunes programmers thought hard coding a path was a good idea, because they definitely could have looked up the install directory in the Windows Registry. As every programmer knows and has been slapped on the wrist by a more experienced programmer you should never hard code possible variations to your program. Especially if it is a hard drive path, because a non-standard install of QuickTime would lead to the same problem.
Solution
Basically the solution is very easy and involves a new feature in Windows Vista called a symbolic link.
1) Open up the Command Prompt as an Administrator (Go to All Programs > Accessories and Right Click on Command Prompt and then choose Run as administrator)
2) Create a QuickTime folder in both Program Files (x86)
mkdir "c:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime"
3) Now we create a symbolic link to the Program Files directory
mklink /d "c:\Program Files\QuickTime" "c:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime"
4) Now install iTunes as you normally would by double clicking on the install program. If that didnt work try this below:
1) Open up the Command Prompt as an Administrator (Go to All Programs > Accessories and Right Click on Command Prompt and then choose Run as administrator)
2) Type cd C:\Windows\SysWOW64
3) Type regsvr32 vbscript.dll (This registers VB Script with your computer.)
4) Now install iTunes as you normally would by double clicking on the install program and wait for iTunes to finish installing.
5) Type regsvr32 \u vbscript.dll (This unregisters VB Script with your computer.)
THIS ONE COMES WITH A WARNING
TRY BOTH OF THESE AT YOUR OWN RISK
AND some thing below to consider about this second step, not the first post
To enabled, VB Script a scripting language that has been responsible for more trojan and worms floating around the internet than any other on the face of this earth. All in order to install one of the earths most popular programs to get our daily audio fix. So we have to disable security measures built in to protect the operating system from malicious code and leave our selves wide open. This would be the equivalent to Microsoft telling Mac People to disable buffer overflow protection in order to install Microsoft Office for the Mac. -
ITunes for Windows Vista 64 bit
Is there any way to get iTunes to work on Windows Vista 64 bit? If not is Apple developing a version that will work in Windows Vista 64 bit?
Thanks,For a chance I tried in this way and (strange but true) it works:
I installed Quick Time alone (the 7.3 release), then iTunes, and this time no problem at all at the start up of both the programs.
Finally I installed the gear software driver and no warning message appear in iTunes.
I enclose the iTunes diagnostic summary before and after the successful changing.
