Windows vista 64bit shutdown macbook pro

Hi,
I a having trouble getting my macbook pro (3,1) to poweroff after a sccessful shutdown while using vista 64bit. The same happens when I do a reboot. The system appears to successfully powerdown ready for the actual 'reboot' or 'poweroff' but it doesnt do either, and I am left with a black screen indefinately, and I need to manually hold down the power button to turn the thing off. Any ideas whats wrong? I didnt have this problem with windows xp.

Check your disk drive (chkdsk). If it wasn't having problems before, it might now, and you may need to use a restore point
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/127417-system-restore-points-stop-xp-dual-boot -delete.html
boot from DVD and use system restore, or follow tips for troubleshooting Vista.

System File Check is also useful.

Do I need to install boot camp on Windows 7 as well as on Lion? I already installed it some years ago on Leopard when installing Windows Vista on my Macbook Pro. But now after installing Windows 7, many things in windows doesn't work (sound etc.). I made a clean installation because I needed to go from 32 bit to 64 bit.
Or should I just update bootcamp in Lion? (cause when I search for "boot camp" in Windows 7 there's no result)

Lion's Boot Camp Assistant 4.x should have downloaded Apple drivers as part of also partitioning.
You need Apple drivers. And you then need to add on your own audio driver.
You can run Assistant at any time to download and save a set of drivers.

  • Can I use External Display on a Window 7 64bit 13" Macbook Pro Early 2010

I have a 23" LED LG Monitor , It has VGA Cable , RCA Cable and HDMI Plug (but no wire). I am asking now if whether I should need a VGA Cable or a RCA Cable or a HDMI cable. I know there's the Apple Mini DVI to VGA Adapter. Should I get that? And does window 7 64bit professional bootcamp support any external display? If not , is there another way to get it working.

You should be able to hook it right up just like if it was a "normal" Windows Laptop.
Windows would be the one to set it up with. Make sure you've updated Boot Camp.
You probably should use an "Apple Mini Display" port -to- HDMI adapter as that should give you more display options, etc. (I'm not sure how high the 13" can go on resolutions, HDMI or VGA may not matter?)
You MAY have to use a separate sound cable between the laptop and monitor as some HDMI -to- (whatever) adapters don't carry the sound signal via an "adapter".
The next choice would be a Mini Display port to VGA adapter.
You may want to also ask this question in the "Computing Hardware/MacBook Pro" area as they may have more info?

  • How different is Windows Vista run on Macbook Pro with 128MB and 256MB VRAM

    Hi guys,
I am going to buy a MacBook Pro soon. But I am struggling picking the right model for me due to that I am not sure how differently Windows Vista is run on them.
I don't use much CPU intensive programs. CPU power is not an issue to me. RAM? I will install 2GHz of it regardless which model I will buy. The only thing worries me is the VRAM.
I would love to have smooth experience with the Aero effects. So how much will the difference in VRAM really make?

At this time Windows Vista is not fully supported by using Apples Boot Camp program. It has been done but people that I personally know that have done it have not much success. I currently am running Windows Vista (non beta) in a parallels session and it runs quite nicely. But I don't get the Aero effects. I would certainly suggest 256MB VRAM Microsoft suggests 128 and their suggestions are for minimal performance. 256 will give you the best performance. Hope this helps.

  • Windows Vista migration to Macbook Pro via paralleled desktop

I am currently using a PC with windows vista business. I am planning to purchase a new macbook pro. Is it possible to migrate a pc running windows vista business to a macbook pro running parallel desktop (with all settings, files and programs intact)

Since Parallels is not an Apple product, you'll most likely want to post your question on the Parallels forums:

  • How can I move an existing iTunes library from a Dell PC (which uses Windows Vista) to a MacBook Pro?  I have tried to copy the library from the PC onto a memory stick but cannot move from the stick onto the MacBook Pro.

I have tried to copy my iTunes library from my old (2008) Dell PC to a 32 GB memory stick and then copy it from the stick to the iTunes library in the new MacBook Pro which I purchased recently from a reputable dealer which resells refurbished Macs, (lease returns, etc).  The dealer was Computer Trends store in Saskatoon.  They told me how to move my existing iTunes libary from the PC to the Mac but I cannot seem to achieve that objective.  The Mac does not seem to recognize the memory stick.  I thought the Mac would recognize that the memory stick held iTunes files and would then transfer them without prompting to its own iTunes libary.  It did not do so.  I have therefore tried to find the command sequence within iTunes (on the Mac) for moving the material from the memory stick to the iTunes library.  Cannot find those commands.  Does anybody know where to find such commands.  I have to say, I am really disappointed that such a simple function would prove to be beyond my capabilities.  I thought the Mac was supposed to be easier than a PC.  !!!  Oh well, I am hoping this forum will help !!!

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
So, you can see your whole iTunes folder on the memory stick after copying from the PC?

  • I have recently installed window vista on my macbook pro under lion, how do i install drivers in vista?

Hi guys, I have recently installed window vista by using boot camp under Lion, and how do i install the drivers for vista?
I don't have any installation disk come with this mac, therefore i have no ideas how it work?
    thanks.

You should visit the Boot Camp forum, https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp. This issue has been asked and answered several times.
There are no Vista/XP drivers for Lion or for the newer Apple computers.

  • I want to get windows vista on the macbook pro with retina display but my first question is this that how do i install it without using a DVD OR CD disk drive, and my second question while installing windows vista do i have to tick mark the install win 7

hello i have a few problems and i hope somebody has a solution my first problem is that how can i install windows vista without using a disk drive and my second problem is that should i tick mark the option which says Install windows 7 while using boot camp please reply, Thanks,

When running Windows in a virtual environment Windows and OSx share your computer's resources such as RAM. Therefore your games can not use all your computer's resources when running.
If you install Windows natively then Windows and your games can and do use all your computer's resource such as RAM.
But as already said, older operating systems are not supported and will not run natively using Boot Camp Assistant. You must use Windows 7 if installing natively in Lion or Moubtain Lion.

  • Trying to download windows vista premium on macbook pro

i just bought windows vista premium from microsoft market place then tried to download it .... not working ... please advise

In order to install Windows Vista using Boot Camp on a Mac you will need the disk version, as the install process will not be able to read the downloaded files from the Mac drive.
If the download hasn't downloaded then you may wish to check with Microsoft.

  • How to transfer my daughter's iTunes from her Vista laptop to MacBook Pro?

I am trying to transfer my daughter's iTunes from her Vista laptop to her new MacBook Pro and I cannot figure out why iTunes cannot find the songs.  Help??
Her old laptop runs Windows Vista and her MacBook Pro is running Leopard.....I copied the iTunes folder under My Music on the PC and then dropped in the Music folder under iTunes.  I can see the songs when we opened up iTunes but when you try and play the song, a message pops up saying iTunes cannot find the music file, and asks if I want to try and locate it.  I locate it and nothing happens.
I spent $100 at the Annapolis Apple Store so she could go in on her One-0n-One and have all of this done for her.  When she went in, they told her she could leave her laptop and macbook and it would take up to three days!!!!  That was unacceptable....they then told her she needed to transfer everything and then come in for the One-On-One and have any questions she had answered.  SO, I am trying to complete the transfers and everything worked like a charm until I tried to tackle the iTunes part.
Any help would be deeply appreciated!!

  • ICloud wont work on Windows Vista 64bit

    Hey there,
Ive been using iCloud with my iPhone 4, iPad and my MacBook Pro since it came out and it all works perfect.
Now I wanted it to run on my Windows Vista 64bit Desktop PC, to sync with Safari, Outlook etc.
My problem is: Everytime I start iCloud and confirm my username and password, iCloud is just shutting down saying "iCloud is no longer working" (in German: iCloud funktioniert nicht mehr)
I reinstalled it severall times and its always the same error...MobileMe has the same error by the way...Ive searched so long on the web and in other forums but no one had a clue...Hopefully you can help me!
    Thanks,
    p0ly

Hmmm.  No, not exactly, but close enough (for me).  Sorrry, in my rush I klutz'd the response.  First I had MicroSoft  do a clean install of 64 bit Offfice on my 64 bit Vista, then I uninstalled MobileMe, and iCloud, then reinstalled iCloud in that order.  Oh...and by the way ... this was on 2 of my Vista machines.  My virgin Win 7 machine had no issues at all with 32 bit.
The salient point I (regretably) missed in my first reply was to clean up the all references to Outlook in the registry.  The tech tought the problem was related to keys for a (long ago) trial version of Office;  Tho that was speculation on his part.
One thing is clear:  The Apple tech said MobileMe has been replaced by iCloud and to remove it!
In the process, I learned that each (4) MS tech's stated, "Outlook has no issues, the problem is with Apple."  I had to force them to do a clean install ... after failing with 2 techs I took a harder stance - happy I did.  One told me they are under pressure to keep their calls under 15 minutes.  Uninstall/cleanup/reinstall took ~2 hours.
    Appologies p0ly,
    tom

  • Windows Vista 64bit and Zen, Video Convertsion

We just updated out computer to one with Windows Vista 64bit.
Everything was fine until we tried to convert a .mov file to place it on the Zen. First it said we needed Quicktime ver 7 (which apparently the original video was created with). Tried to install that, to no avail. Turns out Quicktime 7 is not supported under Vista 64bit, according to Apple.
I then found on another message board of people having trouble running iTunes on Vista 64. Use the following link:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
You can then select the 64bit version of iTunes.
After the install the video conversion worked perfectly.
    Hope this helps others.
    Thanks

Can I run 64bit Vista in Bootcamp?
Yes. Both the computer and OS X are fully 64-bit compliant.
You can install a second video card that does not work with OS X but does work with Windows. Third-party video cards do not work with OS X because they do not have the EFI boot ROM required by OS X. They will, however, work when you boot into Windows. You do not need to convert the Mac Pro to a Windows-only machine which would seem a waste of perfectly good hardware and software.
You can install any SATA hard drive in the Mac Pro. There is no limitation with regard to size. Cache, however, is a feature of the drive and not the computer. Apple does not "qualify" drives for use with the computer.
These questions have been discussed in the Mac Prp fourms so I suggest you search the forums for other discussions of the topics.

  • Help with Drivers for HP dv8315nr for Windows Vista 64bit

Hi everyone! In 2007 i bought a laptop a HP Pavilion dv8315nr with the hope that the stickers in his keyboard saying "Vista Compatible" was true and the promise of that the AMD Turion processor can handle a 64bit OS. Today i realize that was not entirely true, because i got the Windows Vista ultimate for 64bits and the processor can handle this OS but i see that in the HP site don't provide any support for the drivers, so i get the problem that i don't have audio in my laptop and the modem adapter doesn't  work either.
My question is can anybody help me with the audio driver for the HPdv8315nr for windows vista 64bit, that's my priority.
I appreciate the attention for this manner. Thank you
    Jorge

I have the same problem with my Photosmart 7350's--I have two. I cannot get either to work with the New Mac Pro driver--Gutenprint .... I got the new drivers from Apple for HP but they fixed nothing. I even downloaded the newer drivers from HP, but their Printer Assistant does not seem to be working. I downloaded it twice. I can get a test page to print a few lines but the rest of the page is blank. When I try to print with either Pages or Word I get either nothing or trash.
My computer is the New Mac Pro 2.8 8-core with OS X 10.5.4.
These printers work with my Windows machine and I have read where they work with the Mac OS X. Can someone help. The link for printing trouble shooting did not help. My guess is the driver but I cannot get one do show up even after the HP download.
    thank dr_lynch

  • How do I run Windows software on my MacBook Pro with OS X Mavericks

How do I run Windows software on my MacBook Pro with OS X Mavericks? I want to run a TurboTax program to amend an old tax return. Program is not available for OSX.

    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows 7 or Windows 8.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. A more recent comparison of Parallels, VM Fusion, and Virtual Box is found at Virtualization Benchmarks- Parallels 10 vs. Fusion 7 vs. VirtualBox. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard and later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

I'm new to the Mac world and I need to install windows on my new Macbook pro for running my flight simulator software which only runs on windows. I would like to purchase and download the windows 8.1 rather than buying the CD.
When i go to the microsoft store and click windows 8.1 it says it is only for who has windows xp or vista...
can you tell me where and how can i purchase the full installation 8.1 for download?
i will keep the ISO file on my flash drive.
    Thanks!

it's likely an upgrade you are looking for and not a full install of windows

if you get it as an iso file then you need to burn the iso file to a optical disc to install it
