Windows Vista flooding network with dhcpv6 renew requests

I have a few Vista Enterprise and they are causing a lot of headaches. I found out that they are doing DHCPv6 Renew every now and then which is not actually a problem but the request comes flooding by the thousands within a few seconds (as shown
below when captured with wireshark) causing a network flood.
fe80::b589:8846:69f9:6f3d ff02::1:2 DHCPv6 196 Renew XID: 0x1c110e CID: 000100011b199761001a4b3f6fba IAA: 2001:x:x:::aae3
Only happened on Vista. There is nothing else to update on the system and could not find solution to this. The only way to stop this is to disable IPv6 on the system which is not actually a solution.  Appreciate any help.

Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that Vista sent a large number of IPv6 renew request and these cause network flood.
There is one record of captured date, and I am not sure if the network flood is caused by duplicate or useless renew requests.
If IPv6 is used on your network, and you have configured clients to obtain IPv6 address from DHCP server, I recommend you to extend the time settings of IPv6 scope, or add another DHCP server to share the workloads.

Eve Wang

  • Reader v11 Update fails on Windows Vista (entire network) with error 1310

Tried to run the Reader v11 updater after installing v11.  It fails comsistently with error 1310, although the file in the error message is different each time.  The file is usually, but not always, in the folder config.msi.
We had this problem in the Reader v10 updaters as well, however we traced it to a race condition in file handling.  We could get it to install by running other programs concurently or disabling anti-virus, to alter the timing of the install.  Usually it took 3 to 6 attempts for it to complete successfully.
With the v11 updater, no amount of iterations will get it to install.  We've tried upwards of 20 times.  We've also tried re-installing v11 and then applying the update over a fresh copy.  That does not work either.  The usual tricks that worked with v10 also do not work with v11.
This problem could be solved easily if the updater would prompt the user for a retry on error, instead of automatically rolling back.  For the main installer, the user is prompted to retry, but not for the updater.  We run plenty of installers in the school without problems, but the Reader updates are always difficult.
We have wasted dozens of hours on this in our school.  We are supposed to keep the Reader patched to avoid the significant vulnerabilities it introduces, but we cannot get the updater to run.  If anyone else has solved this problem please let us know.

Lorraine, I posted a question in the Adobe Reader forums about the
problems we have with the updaters.  I got back this response, they
are blaming it on other software and the Windows Installer.  I think
that can't be true, we install all kinds of stuff without problems.
So I think the truth is they've done a crappy job on their updaters.
The latest update is for an extremely serious vulnerability, it's
active in the  wild and has made the national news.  So if we can't
install the update, then I think we have to move away from Adobe
    altogether, to another reader.
Can you think of any reason not to do this?

  • I cannot sync to itunes on my computer (Windows Vista 32 bit) with my mini conected.

I cannot sync to itunes on my computer (Windows Vista 32 bit) with my mini connected. What should I do?
My Mini will not boot up. I tried holding both buttons down.  I got a "connect to itunes" message. I connected. and nothing happens.

    Hello there Chess-ster,
If I understand correctly your iPad mini is not being recognized in iTunes on your Windows Vista PC. I would recommend you use the troubleshooting in the following article:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Start with these steps and work your way down as needed:
    Restart
Turn off your computer and your iOS device, then turn them on again.
    Update your computer
Check to make sure that you've installed all required updates for your computer.
    Update iTunes
Check that you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer.
    Check the USB cable
Verify that the 30-pin to USB cable or Lightning Connector to USB cable is free of debris and not damaged. If another cable is available, test with that cable instead.
USB cables that are bundled with third-party products or accessories might work only to charge those products and might not transmit data. Also, if you're using a third-party case or extended battery pack, try removing the case and connecting the Apple-supplied USB cable directly to your device.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • Transaction V/08 on Windows Vista and only with HP Notebooks

I bet someone solves this paranormal issue !
We bought some new notebooks from HP (Pavilion dv6000 series) and whenever we enter the transaction V/08 ( SD Pricing Procedures ) the system falls down.
when using any other brand of notebook (we have here Dell, Sony and Toshibas ) the system works perfectly.
Is there anyone that has gone thru such an amazing thing like that ?

    Hi Fernando,
Can you please cofirm that other brands notebook are also having Windows Vista installed ?
There might be some problem with particular hardware. I would advise you to search the solution at www.service.sap.com/notes for this problem.

  • Windows 7 and Networks with High Latency

We are currently trying to rollout Windows 7 on our network to replace XP but have encountered an issue whereby we have remote clients that access the network over high-latency satallite links (BGAN and Vocality/Satellite). The latency of the links (based
on ping results) can be 600ms for Vocality and 1-3s for BGANs.
The particular services that don't work are a full motion video solution using TVI Viewer 7.9.1 and Outlook 2003 or 2007. These work fine on Windows XP. Shares can be accessed but are significantly slower than XP and ping does respond fine.
Windows 7 is running on Panasonic Toughbook CF52 and CF74 and I've tested in with a vanilla install with no updates and not on the Domain (2008R2 native) to eliminate GPO interference and tried it with all MS updates as of about 2 months ago.
I've tried removing the extra services on the network card (Topology Discovery, ipv6 and QoS), updated to the latest NIC drivers from Panasonic and drivers from Intel themselves. Reduced the MTU to as low as 500 and increased the Frame size (I forget what
to but was following a guide for slow links).
I've successfully replicated the issue on out development system using a satallite simulator.
Windows 7 with Outlook and TVI work fine on our network when connected via the LAN, ADSL, 3G and WiFi.
I'm currently analysing Wireshark captures but they don't seem any different to the XP ones.
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi,
I noticed that your issue just happened when you use satellite transmission connection.
The fact is that this kind of connection in Windows 7 use TCP protocol. Transmission Control Protocol ( TCP ) under ideal conditions can provide reliable data delivery, but it is inherent in the existence of a throughput bottleneck, with the emergence on
the long-distance WAN packet loss and latency increases, the bottleneck is becoming more prominent and serious. In satellite networks with high loss, effective throughput may be as low as 0.1% - 10% of available bandwidth.
However, FASP can be the solution.

  • Windows Vista and Autoplay with an iPod

When I plug my iPod into my doc I have it set up to automatically open iTunes. When I do this I'm presented with an autoplay dialog box in Vista. There isn't an option to do nothing and when you go into the autoplay settings I can't change anything so I don't get the autoplay dialog box when I plug in my iPod.
Does anyone have a magic answer to how not to have autoplay run every time I plug in iPod? I got it to work on my laptop but I don't know what I did different. I can turn off autoplay for all devices but I don't want this. This is frustrating and annoying
    Thanks.

I unchecked "Use AutoPlay for all media devices" and it fixes the what do you want to do dialog boxes that pop up when I put my ipod in my dock. It not an ideal solution becuase it disables pop up dialog boxes for everything that I plug in. I'm hoping this is an issue not a feature and it gets addressed in Windows.

  • Windows vista and problem with association .swf files

I have win vista 32bit. Downloaded and install adobe flash player from adobe site. I have some file with .swf extension but can not get to work with adobe flash player 10.1r52. Ii can asociated ths type of file with adobe flash player. Where is the adobe flash player after installation_in which folder? Confused. Help.

Hi, The Flash files are at C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
Also, if you used IE to Install Flash Player, then in Tools, Manage add ons you also need the Shockwave Flash Object,
the ActiveX Control and it must be Enabled. This is Installed when Flash Player is Installed.
If you are using Firefox or another non-IE browser, then in the plugins, there will be a SWF (version number of Flash Player) and it must be Enabled.
    Hope this helps,

How can i print photto's from my computor to my photosmart 7515 hp
    OS vista 64 bit

    Hi,
You can print from iPhone that means your printer is connected to a wireless network and definitely you can print from your computer which has wireless (or using USB cable).
Now go to the following site to download driver and applications for it and install them on your pc/laptop:

  • Apple Notes for Windows vista for syncing with iPod Touch?

    Hey all,
I would like to be able to place Notes files on my iPod from my 'vista infected' computer. Is there a Apple Notes program that works with the vista virus that will enable me to use Notes on vista and Sync them into iPod? or is that a no-go scenario? (Perhaps the iPod Notes program is self contained and will not import/export except through emails).
I would be curious to know. I use my iPod mostly for PDA type work, and music secondary.
    Bill

There are a number of apps that via wi-fi allow you to store and then open certain filetypes on the iPhone and Touch. Airshare, Files\Files Lite, DataCase and FileMagnet are a few I know of.

  • Sync windows vista 64 bit with tungsten E

I have an old Tungsten E which  I need to sync to a new laptop. The new laptop has vista 64 bit. Palm says vista only supports blue-tooth and my old tungsten does not have that technology or I can't seem to find it. I only see connections to phones. Anyone have a solution to this?
I fried my old laptop and need to add the contacts and calendar to my new system.
Would appreciate any help with this.

cjhruska, you're in the same "boat" as the Z22 folks.  Your only hope is to sync via IrDA (Infra-red, aka "Beaming" )

  • T400s running Windows 7 on network with two XP machines

I have searched and found a few others with a similar problem, but so far nothing has helped.  I have a home network on a Linksys WRT310N router.  There are two XP machines wired to the router and I want to connect the laptop wirelessly.  The laptop sees the router and accesses the internet with no problem, but does not see the other computers.  All are on the same Workgroup, discovery is on for all and all show up on Norton's security map on all 3 computers, but the laptop cannot find the other computers.  What else should I try?
    Thanks, John

  • Does JRE 6 support Windows Vista 64 bit with AMD64?

Although I have installed JRE-6-beta2-windows-amd64 and JRE-6-beta2-windows-i586 seperately and together on my AMD 64 system running Vista RC1 Build 5727, java does not appear in The Control Panel, nor is it mentioned anywhere in Internet Explorer Options.
    So, is this configuration supported?
As a side issue, is this why Flash Player won't install either?
