Windows Vista installation ERROR

System Specs:
Dell Inspiron 1545
4GB RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.0Ghz
I recently purchased a new HDD, a WD Scorpio Black WD3200BEKT, for my computer, and i am unable to install Vista.  I have a green Vista Home Basic 32bit reinstallation DVD, and the install goes fine until it restarts.  Then, it sits for hours on
"Completing Installation..."  I put my HD in another computer in my house, a Dell Inspiron 1525, and the install finises, and I managed to boot it on my 1545.  When I booted, it installed drivers for my CPU and other things, and said to restart to
complete installation.  upon restarting, the computer would no boot.  the boot progress bar moves, then freezes every few seconds, then repeats.  i attempted to install with the red Vista Home Basic DVD that came with the 1525, but it says error
0x80070017.  I then thought to install XP, and upgrade from that.  While the XP installation was loading the files, i got a blue screen of death and the computer restarted.
I am unsure as to if this is a Windows problem, or perhaps it is a hardware problem with my computer.  I called Tech. support at Dell, and was placed on hold for ten minutes, to be connected with an Indian whom I
could hardly understand.  I was then told that if I wanted support, I would need to redeem my warranty for $200+ dollars.  I am not going to spend that.  If this issue is not resolved, I AM SWITCHING TO HP!!!
I have lost all confidence in Dell.  This is my fourth HD in the two years that I have had my computer, and it has been nothing but problematic.
I will GREATLY APPRECIATE any and all help that you all can provide me.
Thank you so much, in advance!!!
P.S. I have nothing against Indians!!! It is just frustrating when you are having a problem with a computer, are angry enough, and are then trying to get help from someone you can hardly understand!

The error 0x80070017 means "ERROR_CRC Data error (cyclic redundancy check)" which states that the files that are being copied from the disk are not making
it to the hard drive with the same structure.
It can be caused by the corrupted DVD, or the DVD drive.
What about to copying the installation files to a USB stick (4gb or bigger) and performing a USB install? See

  • Problems with Windows Vista Installation

Hi, I'm a new Mac user. I just received my Macbook about a week ago, and I am, so far, impressed with it.
However, I have been experiencing difficulties installing Windows Vista (SP1, 32bit DVD) via Boot Camp. After partitioning to a 32gb drive, I insert my installation DVD and click "Start Installation." After my computer reboots, the CD drive begins spinning, but then my screen is filled with black. Only a little white blinking underscore appears at the top left.
I've left my computer there for a while, in hopes of something occurring, but to no avail.
Is there anyone able to help me figure out how to smoothly run the Windows Vista installation? I'd love to catch up on work and gaming that I've missed this past week.

    Welcome to the Apple boards:
There have been some "issues" with BC and the newest Vista which has embedded SP1.
I am running Vista Ultimate 64-bit on this box, but I installed it under Tiger and BC 1.3 beta and just kept upgrading.
I recently installed Vista SP1 and BC2.1, but you are starting from the top, so to speak.
I am not sure there is an answer yet for your situation.
Other posters may be of assistance.

  • Windows Vista Installation Failed. Error Restart Loop After Install.

I made it as far as the end of Step 2: Partition for Windows Vista -> Format -> Install -> Restart
Note: Partition size = 45 GB. Apple USB keyboard and mouse worked fine.
    The install process was stuck in a loop at this point. After restart the screen was black for about 5 minutes. Disc made noise off and on but no screen input. Then it finally restarted. Next screen had error info and a choice to continue. After that a "Install Windows" error msg appeared;
+"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer and then restart the installation."+
Clicking "OK" resulted in the same error msg. along with +"Press any key to boot from disc"+. No success attempting to start up from Windows partition. or disc. Restarted to Mac HD. There is a "Untitled" drive on the Desktop. It contains multiple folders (11 GB). I tried to restart from this drive w/o Windows disc and it returned to the previous error msg.
Next I tried restarting w/ Option key, inserting Windows disc, clicking on arrow under disc icon and quickly pressing any key. This brought up +"Windows Boot Manager Window"+. The only choice was; +"Windows set up [EMS Enabled]. To specify an advanced option for this choice, press F8. Tools: Windows memory diagnostic.+" None of the key choices (Enter, Tab, Esc) responded. Disc would not eject.
Booted to Mac HD. Ejected disc w/ mouse. Used Boot Camp to restore partition. After restart screen is black with; +"No bootable device -- insert boot disc and press any key".+ Then I power down/on with Option key. Only Mac HD is displayed. Log into Admin. Mac HD looks fine. Run Disk Utility to verify disk/volume. OK. Also ran TechTool Deluxe. Passed. Open System Preferences, check that Mac HD Startup Disk is highlighted. Restart. OK now.
What is going on? I was quite confident this would install without any problem since I was using the latest OS X 10.5.6 and Windows Vista Business (early version). Could that be the cause? I had no problem installing it under VMware Fusion 2 (downloaded updates), worked flawlessly. If I can't get this to work then I have to go back to a PC for ACAD. HELP!!
Can I get Apple Support for this issue (Phone only, or Genius Bar)? I have AppleCare.

Your problem sounds somewhat like mine, although not exactly. In my case it seems as if my CD/DVD drive didn't like the hologram on my Windows XP install CD. I solved this by using Disk Utility to make a disk image of the Windows DVD and then burning the disk image onto a new DVD with an opaque "label". That solved that problem.
A further problem occurred after that. When I got to the screen that told me to hit "Enter" to start the installation process my keyboard was unresponsive. I solved this by buying a cheap Windows keyboard. That solved that problem and I now have Windows XP running just fine.
I think that you'll find that Apple tech support isn't very responsive to these sort of problems. I don't have Apple Care but was willing to pay my $49 for tech support. I ended up talking to a "Boot Camp specialist". He was polite but told me that it was "a windows problem" and that Apple didn't support Windows. I agree that Apple can't support windows but it seemed like my two problems were "Mac problems". Anyway, after tearing my hair out for 4 days I finally got it done. I have to admit that I'm not happy with apple tech support.

  • Windows vista installer script errors

I have been unable to install certain pgms or windows vista updates because the installer gets a "script error". This occurred after IE v9 was automatically installed a year ago.  I am looking for advice on how to repair the Vista OS because all repair efforts listed on Microsoft troubleshooting steps on the error code have failed. Can anyone tell me how to repair corrupt jscript files or re-load the OS without use of a VISTA install CD. This is a THinkpad R61i and the OS was pre-installed by Lenovo.

if you have the recovery partition you can use the thinkvantage button or F11 at startup to excess the recovery environment from there you can restore to factory or recover to a saved backup

  • Error to install Xcelsius 2008 on Windows vista. Error 1935.

I have a big problem, I need install Xcelsius 2008 on Windows vista, but when I install the software apper the nex message:
Error 1935 Error al instalar el ensamblado.
"Microsoft.VC80.ATL,type ="Win32",version= "8.0.50727.762",pubicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x86"". Consulte Ayude y soporte tecnico para obtener mas informacion.

From a brief Google search, I determined this error message is from Vista. It is not being produced by Xcelsius. You will need to do your own search and determine what is causing Vista to report this error. You can also try installing using instructions for Xcelsius installation on Vista posted elsewhere in these forums.

  • Windows vista recovery error CTOERROR.flg and following that error 0x643 while installing update

    Hi All
    system info : HP LAPTOP DV6 -1256tx , windows vista sp1 32 bit
When I am trying to install windows vista sp1 from recovery disks/partition I am getting the error from recovery manager prompting me to choose either to retry or see the details for failure : CTOERROR.flg in form of notepad on my desktop. I have done retry 100 times but to no avail. I cannot restart after this recovery failure message as it shows dialog box on restart: windows security update is not installed successfully or is not trusted. So, i have to go through recovery process again to see the desktop (everything functioning - internet, video, music all) but only once.
Last time i got this message too . When i did installing windows from recovery disks few months back, that time  i figured out to install all imp. updates  through  automatic  windows update. All the updates were installed successfully and then it restarted and gone through process of language settings, time settings and all....
But this time when i am trying to update windows, i am getting windows update error 0x643 which is for security update for .net framewrok 3.5 sp1 and family update.I do know the answer how to get away with this error from "windows help" and also from this forum too, which asks for installing .net framework updates from windows update site directly. But the problem is:
Windows update ask me to restart after automatic or manual windows update installation takes place and restart causes problem as it shows dialog box - windows security update is not installed successfully . I need to install all updates in one go like last time from my understanding.:
    1. So if i install windows update (to try my luck as last time) it shows 0x643 error for .net framework and asks to restart and after that when i try to manually install failed updated 0x643 it asks me to restart the windows for pending updates.
    2. Alternatively, If i try to install failed update first just after recovery failure it won't allow me to install important updates for vista sp1 and asks to restart windows.
All i need is to successfully update all updates through windows automatic update which is not happening at the moment.
Not even able to upgrade to sp2 bcz it too restarts for installing.
    Please Help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Mario-L,
I manually downlaod the update  KB3035034 and tried to install in my preview build 9926, it shows The update is not applicable to your computer". Actually, what shows in my system when I check for updates, it detects update Kb 3037975
and 3037975 redirects you to 3021953 see description in this link

  • Windows Vista Bonjour error "You do not have sufficient access..."

My Windows Vista laptop recognizes my HP PSC 1310 printer connected as a USB printer with Airport Extreme. It even has the correct driver. When i go to finish set up i get an error "You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer". I am doing this as an admin on my PC. The printer works correctly on my Macbook. The guidance given by apple is no help at all. Any ideas?

I experienced the same general problem and did find a manual workaround in my particular instance. Hopefully this is helpful to anyone who's facing the same situation.
MY SETUP: installing a hp LaserJet 1012 that's tethered to a wireless Time Capsule (home network) on a virtual VISTA platform running within Parallels 4.0.3810 on an iMac OS 10.5.6.
THE PROBLEM: WinXP (also virtual) connected to the printer through BONJOUR FOR WINDOWS without any problems. However, doing the same in Vista resulted in a last step termination of installation with the following message from Vista: "You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer." Lovely.
Turns out, according to Microsoft (link: support.microsoft.com/kb/946394/en-us Help and Support Article ID: 946394 - Last Review: January 24, 2008), the problems is due to "the Hewlett-Packard (HP) print driver uses an HPBmini.dll file ("HP Mini Installer") whose version is earlier than 1.0.0.13."
My workaround was to simply install the network printer manually via ~ (the following are the choices that I clicked on in VISTA)
Vista Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Printers > Add a printer >
Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer >
The printer that I want isn't listed >
Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname >
    CHOOSE - Device type: Autodetect
INPUT - Hostname or IP address: "Time-Capsule"
(which is the specific hostname in my case, the hostname can be found by going to OS X System Preference > Print & Fax > click & highlight the printer installed on the local network in OS X and look for the hostname after "Location:". Remember, Windows do not do spaces, so if there are any spaces in your hostname be sure to substitute a dash "-".
SELECT - "Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use" >
Device Type > Standard | Generic Network Card > Install the printer driver* >
(*Here's the tricky step, since you don't want to use an old driver which would bring up that old insufficient access message, but you do have some options:
    a) you have a known VISTA COMPATIBLE driver from the manufacturer (net downld);
    b) the "Add Printer Wizard" window may contain a driver for your specific printer or a similar printer. Also, try the "Windows Update" button to refresh the choices if you can't find it the first time; and finally,
c)"Generic" is a legitimate choice in the Manufacturer window if you can't find any better options.)
From there, it's just Next > Next > and choose to share printer, etc. to finish up.
Luckily, I got through to "Print a test page" and it all works without the annoying "insufficient access" message.
    Best of luck to you.

  • HT5318 Windows vista R6034 error/Error7 1114

how do I rectify the 2 error codes above ?
    on Windows Vista

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • AS10.1.2.0.2 on Windows Vista --- helpful error message (not!)

Guessing Oracle still hasn't certified AS10.1.2.0.2 on Windows Vista. Tried to run installer using "setup -ignoreSysPrereqs" starts the installer but the first thing I see is
Abnormal program termination. An internal error has occurred. Please provide the following files to Oracle Support:
    “Unknown”
    “Unknown”
“Unknown”Can somebody tell me where I can find the file "Unknown" ?
Or even better, how much longer it'll take before Vista certification becomes a reality?

Yep - already installed Centos4 on VMWare server for that purpose. Standalone Java stuff etc. simply works on Vista --- so I took my chances for the complete (bloated) stuff as well on that platform. Should have known better.

  • Boot Camp Problem with Windows Vista Installation

After putting in the disc and pressing the "Start Installation" button, the macbook pro restarts and and the screen goes gray for quite awhile, eventually the Vista installer loads, but I get the following error and cannot continue:

Note: If the Windows intallation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."
I can't put in the OS X 10.5 Disc because the eject button does not work, and i've tried copying the files from the disc onto a flash drive and getting it from there.
