Windows Vista + iTunes 7.6.0.29 = disaster

I installed iTunes 7.6.0.29 on my new Vista machine and now when I try to launch iTunes it just hangs - shows as "not responding" in the Task Manager and I cannot kill the process. It prevents proper shutdown of the machine as well - I have never had any issues with iTunes on XP and am hoping my positive experience thus far can be maintained...but reading these boards I am wondering - seems there are hundreds of us being ignored here - does anyone have a solution for 7.6.0.29 on Vista?
I have tried a number of things including Run as Administrator, run it in XP mode etc - nothing works. PLEASE HELP!

whatever

  • Windows Vista, Itunes 10.7, ipod Classic, scan and fix message - why?

I am trying to connect my wife's Ipod Classic to our Windows Vista computer.  I get a Scan and Fix Message for the Ipod from Windows.  I don't let it scan and click continue.  Itunes is frozen and won't recognize the ipod.  This has happened since upgrading to Itunes 10.7.  Also Itunes is choppy in playing all video content since upgrading to Itunes 10.7.
I have checked system requirements and driver upgrades.  So far I have no fix.  One site recommended turning off WiFi sync for all devices in Itunes.  But of course the device must be connected, and mine won't connect.  All my itunes video is languishing.  :-(

Wi-Fi sync won't apply since you have an iPod Classic and it doesn't contain any Wi-Fi hardware.
To get rid of the Scan and Fix error, see this page: http://www.yourlocaltech.com/resolve-vista-scan-and-fix-error-when-plugging-in-i pod-or-other-devices/
    We'll start there for now.

    > Step 3:Download and install the latest chipset drivers from the laptop manufacturers website.
    >*So here I am with the issue still not resolved. How do i Download and install the latest chipset drivers >in order to have Toshiba Satellite L300 & Microsoft Vista recognise my ipod?
Install an hardware diagnostic tool like Everest home Edit or similar.
This tool would provide all hardware details about your notebook.
It would list all devices and chipset name too.
I think its Intel chipset so you could find the driver on the Intel page

  • IPod will not install on Windows Vista, iTunes is fine?

    Hello,
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate on 2 computers. One computer connects to my 60GB iPod video just fine, while the other looks for drivers and then fails to find any. I get a window that pops up saying "Insert the disc that came with your iPod" after Windows searches for drivers. Because of this, the iPod does not appear in iTunes, nor does it appear in My Computer. I have tried performing a soft reset on the iPod (Menu/Center combo) which did not work. I have also tried reinstalling iTunes to no avail. This is a brand new Windows installation and I just can't figure out why it won't work. iTunes seems to work just fine in all other respects.
    Thanks,
    Brian

I found these steps here: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1286482&SiteID=1&pageid=4
Scroll down to the quote from WickedMX.
Basically, C:\Windows\System32\Driverstore\Repository and look for a folder that starts with usbstor. You will probably have two different versions. Open the folder that is the newest version and then copy the files usbstor.inf and usbstor.PNF. Copy them to the C:\Windows\INF folder. Try installing your device(s) again and it should work like a charm!

  • WINDOWS VISTA ITUNES VIDEO PLAYBACK ISSUE!!!!!! AAHHHHHHH!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!

am using a Dell XPS GEN 5 PC with Windows Vista Premium Edition as the current OS installed. I have latested up date for Itunes and QuickTime (7.1.6) Installed. I have recently bought and downloaded 3 of the Original Star Trek Tv Shows from Itunes. When I try and play one of them, they don't work. The Screen comes up, the show starts, then stops. Sometimes the sound keeps on playing, and then stops. Sometimes it just dosent even come on. I'm guessing (as a highly advanced Windows PC User) That this ia a "video/playback issue, related to a Apple/Vista Compatibility problem. I would like help solving this problem.

    hi slideaway!
my computer has a right proper meltdown, switching itself off and restarting to a "Windows has recovered from a serious error" sort of message.
good lord. are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

I have a computer with Windows Vista and I can't get iTunes video to work properly. The sound will be fine, but the video skips and stops and then finally I get an error message saying that iTunes has to close. Please tell me that there is some kind of solution. I have updated my Vista software, my itunes software and anything else that I can think of.

  • Windows vista itunes 10.5

After downloading itunes 10.5, itunes cannot connect to Itunes Store.  I have windows vista home premium on my computer.   Any suggestions on fix?
It gives me a message "Accessing Itunes Store".

With those symptoms, the following document might be worth a try:

Just in case, even though you're running a newer version of iTunes, let's try giving the following document a try:

  • Windows vista/iTunes doesnt recognize ipodtouch

    Hi,
I just bought a new ipod touch, and treid connecting it to my pc. the first time i plugged it in windows vista said something about new hardware recongized and installing drivers, i waited till it was done and then checked iTunes. My ipod was not visible there, then i checked window explorer and it wasnt visible there either. I turned on my ipod and it just shows a picture of a cable and plug and then an arrow pointing at itunes. So far I've uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, turned the ipod on and off, checked my device manager (which doesnt show the ipod touch either) for any issues with the usb ports. I have no clue whats wrong with it! I'm going to try and plug it into a different pc to see if that one will recognize it, but I raelly need it to work on my own pc. Any suggestions are really welcome!
    cheers,
    Conrad.

    Hey Conrad,
Make sure you're plugging the iPod touch directly into the PC and not into a hub, monitor, or keyboard.
What security software is running on the PC? Try disabling it or reconfiguring it.
These two articles will provides tips that may resolve the issue.

  • Windows Vista/iTunes will not recognize 3GS

I've never had this problem before, my iPhone/Laptop has been working fine for the few years that I've had it. Not only will the iPhone not show up on iTunes, but it's not even showing up on My Computer. I've attempted almost every troubleshooting method this site and others have to offer that I've lost count as to how many I've tried. iTunes is updated and I'm running iOS 4.0.1.
I've disabled firewalls, I've disabled/enabled Apple Mobile Device in the Service menus; I've also gone to the Device Manager menu's but it doesn't even show up. Any help would be appreciated.

Really guys? Nothing? Since my last post I've tried taking the SIM card out. Done both DFU and Recovery Mode. Tried going back to later version of iTunes and Apple Mobile Device. I've also run Diagonstics and this is what I got. Maybe it'll help.
