Windows Vista not working on Airport Extreme network

We had an old airport, and the windows vista computer could connect just fine, no problems. We recently got an Airport Extreme to add networked printing, and now the Windows Vista computer cannot connect. Anyone know why or how to fix this?
Thanks!

I am having the same problem. All my Mac's connect just fine as does my XP Machine. I dual installed Vista Home Prem and it won't connect as well. Going to MS to see what the issue is. I am connected through a switch to the Extream to the Boardband router.

  • When I reopen my computer (macbook pro) it connects to my dsl connection and not to my airport extreme network that I created

I purchased yesterday an airport extreme, everything works fine, but the thing is that when I close my laptop (just shutting down the screen) and then reopen it, instead of conecting to the airport extreme network I created, it connects to my DSL connection. Is this normal? Do I have to keep entering my own airport extreme network after I close/shut down my computer? Thank you very much

Hi Bob, I solved it, it had to do with the preferred networks. But thanks anyways!

  • Can't get my Wireless-G (on a Windows XP) to work with Airport Extreme

I have four Macs in my house. All of them work flawlessly with my airport extreme basestation. My mom just moved in a brought her Pentium 4 Windows XP desktop. I plugged in a Link Sys Wireless-G adapter and it picks up lots of wireless networks in my neighborhood but it will not pick up my airport extreme. Any suggestions?

Same issues here with an iMac, an XP laptop, an XP desktop and an Xbo via a Belkin game router.
    Things I have tried:
    No security.
    WEP
    WPA - all variants
    Every channel number available
All the combinations of the above (yes, really - that was a fun Saturday afternoon I can tell you).
Firmware updates for AEBS and the wireless devices.
It's clearly a wireless problem since all devices work when connected via Ethernet.
I'm starting to believe that the AEBS just does not like certain brands (or maybe even specific models), something which I can't prove since I'm not about to go and replace ALL my other wireless devices to make Apple happy. Like a previous poster, I am using Belkin or Linksys gear.
Right now I've gone back to a Netgear router which works flawlessly with Windows and Mac; AEBS will be going back to the Apple store soon unless I can happen on a working solution.

  • Airport card does not work with Airport Extreme when security is turned on

I have an iMac running OSX 10.4.11 with an Airport card installed (firmware version 9.52).
I recently replaced my Netgear wireless router with an Apple Extreme Base station and now I am not able to connect my iMac to the wireless network when WEP security is turned on - I get an error from the Airport Setup Assistant when I attempt to connect to the wireless network.
It works fine if the wireless security on the Extreme Base station is turned off.
Please help and thanks in advance.
    Motasim

First, I highly recommend that you switch to either WPA or WPA2 as WEP is no longer considered secure. If you must use WEP, I suggest that you try the following:
o Re-create the Network Name (SSID) on your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS)
o Try using 128-bit WEP, with a 26-Hex character key for the encryption type.

  • ORACLE EXPRESS EDITION ON WINDOWS VISTA NOT WORKING

I HAVE WINDOWS VISTA AND I TRIED TO INSTALL ORACLE EXPRESS EDITION.WHEN I GO TO THE DATABASE HOME PAGE IT GOES TO THE FOLLOWING URL
    http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
AND IN INTERNET EXPLORER I GET THE FOLLOWING ERROR
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
    What you can try:
    Diagnose Connection Problems
    ALSO I WAS READING THE
"APEX" INSTALLATION HELP AT THE FOLLOWING URL
    http://www.apex-blog.com/oracle-apex/installing-apex-tutorial-23.html
I AM NOT SURE IT WILL HELP ME OR NOT.I JUST NEED THE ORACLE DB WORKING AT MY SYSTEM SO THAT I CAN HAVE A LITTLE DATABASE WORKING LOCALLY.
SO ANY HELP IN THIS MATTER WILL BE APPRECIATED.THANKS

To check if u installed correctly, in cmd prompt type tnsping xe. If installed correctly it shud say OK(30) else it will show an error. Now if it says OK, in cmd prompt type sqlplus and connect using system/pwd_u_provided_durin_installation, it shud connect.
Some steps to follow before installing XE
Before Installing Oracle, make sure to disable all the network adapters and ping in cmd prompt localhost and ur machine name, both shud refer to 127.0.0.1. Once oracle is installed, try to connect in ur web explorer and once connected, enable the network adapters. There shudnt be any firewall prob.,if it does add port 8080 as an exception to ur firewall list.

  • Timed Access not working on Airport Extended Network

I've had an Airport Extreme wirless networking working fine except for some wifi disconnects at the far end of my house.  So I bought an Airport Express to extend the network.  I'm got the Airport Express configured and running an extended network.  Everything shows "green" in the AirPort Utility, but it required me to set the Timed Access option to "Not Enabled".  If I enable Timed Access on the Airport Extreme, the Airport Express dissapears from the AirPort Utility and starts flashing the amber light.
Is it possible to configure an extended network that continues to support the Timed Access restrictions?

    Well,
I succeeded in making it work. Yes it can work!!
Yesterday I had a brainwave. You have to put the mac adress of the airport that extends your network also in the timed access table.
    My timetable looks like this:
    default: access from 06:00 - 22:00
    Devices that have an exception:
My ipad: every day, all day
Airport Express: every day, all day
The trick is that you have to use the mac adress of your airport express of the WiFi interface. The airport has 2 mac adresses one for the wired and one for the WiFi. First I used the ethernet mac adress.
So now it works like a charm.
    Success!!!!!!!
BTW: You only have to enter the timed access rules in one airport. It propagates further to the "extenders"

  • Pc will not work with Airport Extreme LAN connection

I have setup my Aiport Extreme Base Station and my Mac and phone work just fine with the setup. However, I connected a PC directly to one of the LAN ports on the back, and the PC doesn't see the network. Above the port the light is blinking green. Any thoughts?

Is the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) the only router in your current network configuration? That is, it is connected directly by Ethernet to your Broadband Internet modem? ... or to another router between the AEBS and the modem?
When connected by Ethernet to the AEBS, can the PC "see" the Mac or vice-versa?

  • 1.5 TB Seagate drive will not work with Airport Extreme.

I have a 1.5 TB external drive connected to airport extreme.  I cannot get this drive to be recognizedby the computers connected to the Airport Extreme.  The drive show up as "-1.4 TB - Seagate FreeAgent 0138"  under disks in Airport Utility can plug it in directly to my Mac Air and a PC and the drive will work. When I plug the drive in directly to a PC or Mac Air,  it is recognized and can be used.
I can plug in a 250 GB external drive into the Airport extreme and they will work.
Also,  the 1.5 TB works when plugged locally to a PC or Mac using USB.
Anyone know how to get it to work with the Airport Extreme?

Assuming that the drive has been formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or MS-DOS FAT32, you almost always need to use a powered hub with a drive attached to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme...even if the drive has its own power supply.....because the USB port is under powered and will not supply enough current to most hard drives.

  • My iPhone 4s will not recognize my Airport Extreme network

I just purchased the AirPort Extreme.  I have come home and set it up.  My iPads connect quickly and easily... but my iPhone 3 and 4s do not even see the network?  They did and then it went away?  Why?

t connects to wifi and 3g no problem.
If it connects to 3G, it's connected to the phone network.  3G carries both voice and data.  Your phone can't show BOTH 3G and No Service at the same time.

  • PC Internet Not Working with Airport Extreme

Hey guys, just got a new Airport Extreme to replace my old one. Me and my brother's MacBook's both work in terms of the internet, but my dad's PC's internet will not work. It is connected to the Airport, but has no internet access. Any ideas? Thanks.

Apple's support section (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306256) says "How to enable Cisco VPN connections
You should use Cisco's VPN client software to establish a Cisco VPN connection via an AirPort Extreme base station. Note: In the Cisco VPN client preferences, make sure the "NAT-T" option is enabled.
Note: Some corporate firewall configurations may cause issues with the Cisco VPN software.
Please contact AppleCare support if you are unable to contact a Cisco VPN server via Cisco VPN client software and an AirPort Extreme base station.
I'm experiencing the same thing. DellLatitude D610. Netgear rangemax wireless PC card (WPN511). I can connect to the internet but I try to vpn into work I get half way through the connection process and get an error which states" Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client. Reason 412: The remote peer is no longer responding. I've spent 2 hours trying different settings. I really want to stick w/the apple product but will have to return it if I can't get it to work. I need cisco vpn via wintel for work.

  • Linksys gaming adapter not working with Airport Extreme

Hey guys, just installed Airport Extreme 802.11n for my new MBP notebook and I have 3 laptops Apple and PC that work great! BUT! I have an Xbox with Linksys gaming adapter and the gaming adapter is not picking up the airport at all! Before the Airport I had a Linksys wireless router and it has worked with the gaming adapter for the last 3 years flawlessly. Does anybody know why the gaming adapter is not finding it?

  • Windows Vista not working correctly with Leopard 10.5

I just updated my MacBook Pro 17" by installing Leopard 10.5xx (erased and installed), then used BootCamp to partition disk and install Windows Vista. In Windows, my volume control is on, but no sound. I just got the error, "This problem was caused by a compatibility issue between Intel 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Controller - 27B9 and Windows Vista. Intel 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Controller - 27B9 was created by Intel Corporation and is distributed by Apple Inc.."
I am having problems with drivers, and as I'm a new user to Mac/Windows, so I don't even know how to identify which drivers (on Leopard installation disk)I need. In Windows Device Manager I have something called "Human Interface" that needs a driver . . . but my computer can't find it on my Mac or on the disk.
I purchased extended AppleCare warranty, but don't know how to use it, and my 90 days is up so I can't call. Is this warranty strictly for hardware? I don't understand how to get the support/how to information I need; I'm a Windows user and find Apple's support confusing and indirect.
    HELP!!!

sorry, can't help, but you're definitely in the wrong forum. this is about mac os SERVER (not client) and your problem is related to either the hwardware you use or bootcamp.

  • Mac filter not working with Airport Extreme

I setup my new AEBS and for whatever reason when I setup the Mac filter it still will let the desired user in with the key. I have both the wireless N and the wireless G (guests) setup and it doesn't seem to work with the G for sure, unfortunately I don't have any other wireless N capable units so I don't know if it works with N. I would assume that it would block all other Mac addresses if I select "No Access." Please help, and no I do not have any extensions of it, it's just the Extreme as the single wireless access point in our house with WPA security. Thanks!

I had the same problem. On the MAC access panel in Airport Utility, click on the default user and then use the drop down menu below and click no access. Any of the added IDs you have added you can still put 24 hour access and only those users can connect to the network.
The default is set for all access, so unless you change this, no matter how many separate IDs you add, it will let anyone on if they have a password.
I didn't figure this out for years, but now it works the way I thought it was working all along...

  • Itunes 7.7 and windows Vista not working!

I had hoped that a multimillion company like apple most successful in this nich of the market would want to keep its customers and provide us with up to date valid software but NO..... 9moths later same problem!

    3. When u click OK (the only option) in the task bar on the bottom right a small bubble appears with the statment " Data execution prevention has closed iTunes "

I have uninstalled Quicktime and installed a new clean copy to no avail.....
Appart from throwing my iPod in the Thames and getting a samsung mp3 player, i dont see any solution... anyone have any ideas?
    My Thanks in advance!

iTunes is a free program - it doesn't make good business sense for Apple to hire people to troubleshoot problems on Windows hardware - they'd have to hire hundreds, if not thousands to remote in to PCs and spend time fixing this kind of thing!
If you are getting that message about data execution prevention, you need to get DEP turned off, come **** or high water.
How about turning off UAC, can you even do that?
And with UAC turned off, can you disable DEP?
    How to Disable UAC
Remember you can always turn these back on to keep your system "safe" - this is just a test to get iTunes working.

  • PC not seeing my airport extreme network

I have an AEBS up and running with my macbook wirelessly connected and have been trying to add my IBM PC notebook wirelessly to this existing network unsuccessfully, as the PC cannot see the network.
The PC is used by me for work and connects on the road to all sorts of networks with no problem. It also sees many other wireless networks at my home but not the AEBS network.
I dont have a closed network and even with searching the forum, dont seem to have any possible solution - bizarre !
Grateful for any help out there
    Cheers

    not sure !!
    how do i check this,
Applications > Utilities > Airport Admin Utility
    Scan and Select your Airport
    On the Airport Tab
It will tell you which channel you are on.
as it was not an issue for the
macbook that is connecting wirelessly to the AEBS ?
Your router can use channels 1-13, however your PC may be restricted to channels 1-11 as some manufactures configure their PCs for the US market standard and not necessarily the local market. Your MacBook can access channels 12 and 13.
