Windows Vista recognizes iPod but not iPad...

Windows Vista (with latest service pack; 32-bit) will not recognize my iPad. It was able to before and my last iPad backup in my iTunes is dated back to March. However, now, when I plug my iPad in, it does not recognize it and does not even show up on the disc drives. I have gone through the numerous methoeds that Apple (and others) suggested including reinstalling iTunes, reinstalling the Apple Mobile Device Drivers, restarting my computer using msconfig, etc.
To test out whether it was an Apple driver on my computer or not, I inserted my Gen 6 iPod Classic and it recognized it with no problem. If you know how to solve this, please let me know.
Thank You,
Tulga

  • ITunes/Apple Mobile Device works fine w/iPod but not iPad

Hi. I'm getting stuck on this and would like some help to solving this problem. Basically I'm trying to sync my iPad; however, whenever I connect it, this meesage pops up: "this iPad cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device is not started." The problem is that when I try to plug in an iPod using the same wire, it works fine, no problem, but the iPad just won't connect. I have since uninstall and reinstall all Apple components (iTunes, AMD, QuickTime, etc) and it's still the same thing...iTunes connects fine w/ the iPod, but not the iPad. What to do? Thnx in advance.
    EDIT:
Btw, I've tried to connect the iPad while the iPod is connected, and the "Apple Mobile Device is not started" error message pops up too, which is weird, because the iPod is connected and syncing at that time...which means the Apple Mobile Device thing IS started. >.>

The iOS devices use Apple Mobile Device Service, while older iPods use the iPod Service.
Checkout this Apple document -> How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows
Are you able to restart the service after following the steps in that article?

  • Windows recognizes iPod, but not iTunes or iPod updater, causes freezing

I'm having some issues with my 60GB iPod Photo. I tried to store my friend's music on my iPod as files. Upon uploading them to my own computer, some files caused freezing, requiring me to disconnect and reconnect the iPod. I finally gave up and deleted all the files stored on my iPod. All of a sudden, although Windows XP Pro recognized that an iPod was plugged in, it would no longer open iTunes automatically. When opening iTunes once the iPod was plugged in, it would cause iTunes to freeze.
I decided to restore my iPod. About halfway through, there was an error message saying my iPod could not be restored. All songs were deleted but my iPod was still not recognized. Now, the iPod updater does not recognize that in iPod is connected, even though Windows does. The updater freezes, inhibiting me from completing my restore. iTunes freezes as well when my iPod is plugged in. My iPod displays "update in progress - do not disconnect," but nothing happens. When my iPod is not connected to the computer, I can navigate through it normally, although it does need to be unfrozen when left unused for a couple of days. I cannot tell if it plays files because they were all removed during my unsuccessful restore.
I have tried reinstalling all my iPod related software and I have tried my iPod on more than one computer with different USB cables, but nothing works.
    Help, please!

This is exactly the same problem that I am having I have posted on 14th March on itunes forum. I wish you luck I wait with interest to see what someone says. My ipod was working like a dream until i downloaded the update

I just had my 20 gb ipod replaced with a 20gb color display ipod. Best buy did not give me the software disc according to their "warranty". I used my original disc to download the software, and updated it by using the free download on the apple website. I now have itunes 5.0 and when I connect my ipod to the computer a window pops up saying that it recognizes the ipod, but that the computer doesn't have the software and to download it from their website or the installation disc. I need help! Please anyone who knows how to fix this

  • Ripped 20 CD's into iTunes, syncs with phone and iPod, but not iPad

So, maybe sync isn't the right word. All three devices will sync, but the songs ripped from CDs only appear onmy iPhone 5 and my iPod touch, but not on the Ipad. I have recently purchased songs from iTunes, and they do appear on the iPad. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks for any help. Oh, btw, I have the newest iPad, right before they went to the Lightning connector

    For iTunes Help
Add artwork to songs and other items
Music and video you buy from the iTunes Store comes with its own artwork. You can add your own artwork to songs and other items in your library.
You can add many popular types of still image files, including JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, and Photoshop. You must convert WAV files to another format before you can add artwork to them.
Album artwork for the currently playing item appears to the left of the progress bar. To view album artwork at a larger size in a separate window, click the artwork.
    Hide
Add artwork to music and video
    Do any of the following:
Add artwork to one item at a time:
Select an item in your iTunes library and choose File > Get Info.
Click Artwork and do one of the following:
Click Add, select an image file, and click Open.
Drag the art file to the artwork area.
To add artwork to another item, click Next or Previous.
Add the same artwork to multiple items: Select the items, choose File > Get Info, click Info, and drag an image file to the Artwork area.
Retrieve album artwork for songs in your library from the iTunes Store: Control-click the songs and choose Get Album Artwork from the pop-up menu.

  • USB1 Recognizes iPod But Not USB2

    Hi,
I have a Dell laptop with WindowsXP installed. As far as I know my USB2 ports are all properly configured and working correctly. But, for some reason, when my USB2 is enabled, my computer doesn't recognize my (4thGen) iPod.
In order to update the iPod, I have to first disable my USB2, then everything works fine, albeit, at a much slower pave than USB2 (obviously.)\
Has anyone else had this similar problem? And, if so, any answers as to how to correct it?
    Thanks!

I was milling around some other posts and tried all the suggestions I could find pertaining to this general issue (changing drive letter of iPod; removing all the USB ports, then re-starting the laptop; purchased an external powered USB2 hub; etc. - all to no avail.
I'm now wondering if, perhaps, this might be a hardware issue, perhaps some type of conflict pertaining to the manufacturer of my USB2 Controller? ( Intel(R)82801/FB/FBM USB2 Enhanced Host Controller -265C )
    HECK, I DON'T KNOW! :>)
Again, everything is fine and dandy if I disable the USB2 controller (above), then update, etc. the iPOd in the USB1-mode, but not OK when the USB2 is enabled.

  • Videos on same Apple ID play on iPod but not iPad?

Hi, i just recently purchased the iPad Air and logged it with the same Apple ID that all my other devices use. After a day or so i logged out of my apple id and into another one that i use for work. The email addresses are very similar along with the passwords so I did  not notice until after I had downloaded something and it gave me the 90 day warning.
Both my iPod and iPad are now back logged into the same account but my iPod will play videos I downloaded in the videos app but my iPad won't. when I try to download them it just gives me the 90 day warning even though I am back to the original account and can download other things fine.
I'm not sure what to do as I don't want to wait 90 days to be able to watch the videos.
    thanks

Once a device or computer is associated with your Apple ID, you cannot associate that device or computer with another Apple ID for 90 days.

  • ITunes recognizes iPod but not music

Since I downloaded iTunes 7.3.0.54, it recognizes my iPod but does not show any music. However, it shows that the iPod disk space is 3/4 full but it's classified as "other data." Is there any other way to get that music to appear? I'm trying to avoid doing a restore if at all possible.

I had this same problem and just got off the phone with Apple Support. She told me that I'm out of luck, I should have backed all my files up. Music, photos, whatever. gone. She explained to me its like a mini computer and these things happen. It doesn't matter what generation of ipod you have. So now I have to start from the beginning and will now archive all files. I know this is not the news you wanted to hear but maybe you can sleep tonight!

  • Syncing to iPod but not ipad

I want to sync to iPod but when I check songs I want to sync, will they automatically sync to iPad? I want the songs on iPod only.

No.. The ONLY things that will sync to the ipad are the things that you have selected to sync to the ipad.
The same is true for any device.

  • Wifi sync works for iPod but not iPad

I've seen lots of questions raised about wifi sync, most of which seem to have been resolved by checking the box in iTunes to enable wifi sync.  My issue doesn't seem to be resolved so easily.
I have checked the iTunes box to enable wifi sync and turned off my firewall.  I have reset my router.  I reinstalled iTunes, and I even just reset my iPad to defaults and reloaded from scratch.  Still, wifi sync doesn't work.  It is working just fine on the same Windows PC with my iPod.
    Anything else I could try?

Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Also try this - Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

  • Mp3 plays on iPod but not iPad?!

I have a collection of .mp3 files loaded into iTunes as mediaKind: audiobook.
They play just fine with my iPod Touch.
They hang (with black screen) my iPad (played via the iPod app).
Why???? Any fix known for this?
P.S. I converted one track from mp3 to Apple Lossless format and that DOES play on the iPad. I would convert all the tracks to that format except that they take 3 times as much space (and like I said, they DO play on the iPod Touch).

I've the same problem with some of my audiobooks...I can listen to them on my iPod, and though these audiobooks show up on my iPAD, I can't listen to them. The iPAD screen just goes black and nothing happens. I read from another post and David M Brewer suggested these steps:
    Try this;
    Open iTunes--->select the audiobook--->Command+i (get info)--->Option Tab--->Music Kind--->Pick Audiobook from the drop down menu--->Ok.
But that still doesn't work. I also tried picking just "Book" from the drop down menu, still no luck.
It'd be really nice if I can listen to all my audiobooks on any one of the devices I have so I don't have to lug both the iPOD and iPAD around. Any other suggestions to fix this?

  • Windows likes one ipod, but not another?

    Help!
My son has a first gen nano he's used on his computer. My daughter's 2nd gen nano has been on my computer (win2k, amd2600). Everything worked fine.
Now, my son's computer is dead. Every time we plug his nano into my computer, it won't recognize it. Worse yet, when we try the five R's, it somehow refuses to let the "eject device" work, Device manager won't start, and iTunes won't start. Unplugging the device causes all these queued-up programs to kick off. Of course, it didn't help that R5-restore instructions referred to a device that wasn't showing on the device manager! (catch-22).
Are these devices locked to a particular computer? Can I fix this? Any ideas?
    Thanks

Oh, I forgot to mention - My daughter's 2nd gen nano still works fine on this computer!
