Windows Vista recovery partition lost - will toshiba send me discs?

Hi, something happened to my hard drive and the vista recovery partition was erased, so i cannot recover vista. I just bought this laptop 2 months ago and i paid for the OS with it, i have the code of authentication and serial number on the bottom of my laptop, will toshiba send me install discs? i also have the emails from best buy from when i purchased the laptop online.

No, the recovery disks don't rely on anything on the hard drive. From what you say, either you are not booting from the optical drive, or the disks indeed are faulty.
The last I knew, replacement disks were $25. See the sticky at the top of the General Discussion topic for details.
There have been a lot of reports of problems with recovery disks, so I'm a bit surprised that Toshiba won't ship you replacements at no charge. Might be worth another try, and an attempt to get to the next tech level.

Recovery partition lost

my laptop, Satellite P855-S5102, came with win8 pre-installed. i upgraded to win 8.1 and now i get prompt that SYSMENU.DLL is not working. i tried system recovery. now i get this message: i need to repair my laptop because WINLOAD.EFI is missing. i tried system recovery from usb flash drive. now i get this message: recovery partition lost.
i check the HDD in explorer. now it has two additional partition. one named local disk and another named recovery.
will removing all partition help? i'm planning to reformat the whole HDD. is it advisable?
also, how can i enter the bios easily? i'm having difficulty accessing the bios to setr it up back so HDD will be first to start.

Sure.
If you failed to create recovery media, you can obtain it from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here .
For instructions, see the section Restoring from recovery media, which begins on p. 60 of the User's Guide.

After all that, you'll need to upgrade to Windows 8.1 again.

Vista recovery partition

After clean installing Windows 7 on my Pavilion dv5 - Vista, I saved the "Windows.old" folder and the
"Vista recovery partition" on to an external harddrive, before deleting both on my laptop.
I never made any recovery disks, but would like to go back to Vista using the externally saved Vista partition and Windows.old folder.
How can I create recovery disks using the recovery partition / files on my external hard drive??
I do hope that there is a way to do this....

I want to order a recovery disk for my laptop, however when i give them the computer's serial number and part number they tell me to select which disk i would like to purchase but the only option they give me is one with 64bit however my computer is running vista 32bit would i still be able to restore my computer or do i need the 32bit? If so what can i do to order it because this is my only option: SW Media - DVD-Satellite-L300-Win Vista 64bit Home Premium-EN as you can see it has 64bit.

I've forwarded the problem info to the people who manage the recovery media database so that it can be corrected. Meanwhile, if you send me a Private Message with your daytime phone number I will also send that to Customer Service and request that they contact you.
In case you weren't aware of this option, if your laptop is currently operating normally you should be able to restore the original hard disk image by first shutting down Windows and then holding down the zero ('0') key while the system boots up. You should also be able to run the Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator program to burn your own set of recovery media onto blank discs.
Of course, you should also be able to order the correct recovery media so do send me a Private Message with the requested info if you'd like to continue down that path. To access Private Messages, click on the small envelope icon in the upper right area of this and most forum pages. From there, click the 'Compose New Message' tab and enter "jim" in the 'Send To' field.

I HAD PURCHASED LAPTOP SATELLITE U 505 - S2006RD . BEFORE CREATING THE RECOVERY DISC , WHILE MAKING THE ADDITIONAL PARTITION FOR THE DISC , ACCIDENTLY THE RECOVERY PARTITION SPACE WAS DELETED AND NOW IAM UNABLE TO MAKE RECOVERY DISC FOR MY LAPTOP . the only way to fix it now is to call toshiba 1(800)457-7777 and order a set of recovery media for $25 and then restore your laptop to factory out of box condition. this will give you the partitions back

Windows vista recovery error CTOERROR.flg and following that error 0x643 while installing update

system info : HP LAPTOP DV6 -1256tx , windows vista sp1 32 bit
When I am trying to install windows vista sp1 from recovery disks/partition I am getting the error from recovery manager prompting me to choose either to retry or see the details for failure : CTOERROR.flg in form of notepad on my desktop. I have done retry 100 times but to no avail. I cannot restart after this recovery failure message as it shows dialog box on restart: windows security update is not installed successfully or is not trusted.So, i have to go through recovery process again to see the desktop (everything functioning - internet,video, music all) but only once.
Last time i got this message too . When i did installing windows from recovery disks few months back, that time i figured out to install all imp. updates through automatic windows update.All the updates were installed successfully and then it restarted and gone through process of language settings,time settings and all....
But this time when i am trying to update windows, i am getting windows update error 0x643 which is for security update for .net framewrok 3.5 sp1 and family update.I do know the answer how to get away with this error from "windows help" and also from this forum too, which asks for installing .net framework updates from windows update site directly. But the problem is:
Windows update ask me to restart after automatic or manual windows update installation takes place and restart causes problem as it shows dialog box - windows security update is not installed successfully . I need to install all updates in one go like last time from my understanding.:
1. So if i install windows update (to try my luck as last time) it shows 0x643 error for .net framework and asks to restart and after that when i try to manually install failed updated 0x643 it asks me to restart the windows for pending updates.
2. Alternatively, If i try to install failed update first just after recovery failure it won't allow me to install important updates for vista sp1 and asks to restart windows.
All i need is to successfully update all updates through windows automatic update which is not happening at the moment.
Not even able to upgrade to sp2 bcz it too restarts for installing.
Please Help.

I manually downlaod the update KB3035034 and tried to install in my preview build 9926, it shows The update is not applicable to your computer". Actually, what shows in my system when I check for updates, it detects update Kb 3037975

My company has HP Pavilion a6540d Home PC. It was bought 2 years ago. It has a built in operating system which is Windows Vista. We planned to upgrade it into Windows 7 just this week. I was about to restore the windows to its factory settings first before upgrading it. When I turned on the CPU, it hanged up so I decided to force shut down. Then restarted it again, it didn't hang up until it was in recovery process already, again I forced shut down the computer. Made the machine rest for more that 10 hours. I tried to restore it again to its factory setting (hoping that it wouldn't hang). Fortunately, it the process finished successfully. But when I restart the computer after the restoration an error message appeared "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed to install Windows. Click OK to retart the computer and to restart the installation." Then it restarted - error message appeared again - restarted - error message appeared again and looped all over. I would like to know how can I solve this error. I tried to hit F8 while the system boots and repair the computer but it gives me error "Error 0x400110020000100A". What should I do about this error? I'm trying to get the repair disc of Windows Vista so I can repair it but I didn't keep any. Can I just download a repair disc for Windows Vista since I can't access my computer before start up? HP don't have a separate recovery disc or a OS (Windows Vista) installer. Kindly help me. Thank you!

If you have the facility in the bios to run a check on the Hard Drive, I would do this first as the error you mention would indicate a problem with the HDD itself.
If the HDD test passes, you could try the following.
This process will allow you to make a Vista Repair Disc. This is not an installation disc but will allow you to use the Vista Recovery Console that is available on retail versions of Vista.
Download the file on the link below. Make sure you download the correct version.
Vista 32 bit
Vista 64 bit
This is a zipped file. If you don't have an extraction utility installed, download and install 7-Zip, when installed, right click the zipped folder, select Extract Files and then click Ok. You should now see another folder containing the ISO file.
You will need software to burn the ISO to a CD. If you don't have this type on software installed, download and install ImgBurn and use this to burn the ISO to a CD.
Once you have created the Vista Repair Disc, follow the guide on the link below to see if this will repair your installation.

Windows Vista 32 Partitions

Hello,
I have just installed Bootcamp and a Windows Vista 32-bit.
Inside my OSX I can see a "Windows" volume which allow me to see the NTFS files.
After this, I reboot and have entered into my Windows Vista. From its Disk Manager I have created two additional partions (D and E) and have changed my optical drive to F.
These two new partitions were formated with NTFS and all work just fine.
I reboot again into OSX and I still can see the Windows volume but the other two I have created are still "invisible".
Next I thought it was due some missing feature in Boot Camp so I have updated it to 2.1 but nothing have changed.
I have installed VMware Fusion which allows me to reuse the Boot Camp partition and in fact it works but even accessing my Windows from VMware did not show my other two volumes.
Is there any way to access my partitions from inside OSX or from VMware or Parallels?

Don't run BootCamp is the option you haven't tried and which I suggested. I never use BootCamp Assistant, except a couple times to see how flexible (or not) it was. I just boot from Vista with 'C' and all is well.
A modern OS like Vista can deal with a single partition fine. If you want, there is Diskeeper. Or use a 2nd drive for your files.
Adding, removing, installing does cause files to scatter, free space to get fragmented, and why I do a backup/erase and restore in OS X from time to time. I don't like running disk optimizers, too annoying.
Make your Windows Vista partition as large as possible, same for OS X, too, today's hard drives and filesystems work well that way. The only draw back, and what I don't like about BootCamp Assistant, the partition it creates resides on the inner most and slowest performing tracks of a disk drive so instead of nn-MB/sec of the outer tracks you'd have OS X on, it is half that number.
Having all these partition slices harkens back to older systems and linux, but even SuSE 11.0 doesn't require anything special in partitioning though many still want to have a page partition.
One of the things that kept me from an iMac was the single internal hard drive, lack of expansion, and limit to how many external drives can be safely used, and then only FW/USB, no eSATA.

How to create a full windows image recovery partition ?

It's been about a month since I remplaced my HDD, because the original one which has the recovery partition was currupted...
So, I had to do a clean windows 8.1 x64 installation using my embedded windows 8 key
Now I would like to create a recovery partition with a full windows image that can be executed with F10 on the start up. just like the one that came with the original HDD

SOLVED: HP Pavilion dv6-1355dx Windows 7 Recovery Partition Failed, Windows Partition Formatted

Hello everyone. I just joined the community, so I apologize in advance if I am in the wrong place or if I do not supply all the needed information about my computer and problem in this first post.
I have an HP Pavilion dv6-1355dx Entertainment Notebook PC, which came with Windows 7 Home Edition, and an HP Recovery Partition. Today, I decided I wanted to start from scratch, as the system was getting pretty slow, and the User folders were becoming very unorganized. So I followed the instructions found at the HP website and used the program HP Recovery Manager. However, after the Recovery Partition formatted the Windows Partition, and had three minutes left to copy the files into the new partition, a message popped up declaring the recovery failed, and the computer had to be rebooted. So now I have a computer with no operating system on it at all, and the Recovery Partition continues to fail. I have used the Recovery Partition before, and this has never happened.
Has anyone encountered or know of a similar issue? Does anyone know a solution? Am I out of luck, or is there someway to ask HP for a copy of the installation media?

The easy way is from the backup you make of your computer so in case something happens you don't lose anything.

This will not reconstruct your library as it was. It just puts the media back. You will have to do playlists, ratings, etc. If you have music from another source you will have to get it from there again.

Having upgraded to Firefox 24 it will now not start at all after clicking on the icon. My OS is Windows Vista premium. It will start in safe mode.

Upgraded to Firefox 24 and now nothing at all works despite uninstalling and reinstalling it several times and losing all my bookmarks etc. However it does start in safe mode. At first I thought it was my security Norton 360 but after 2 hours in contact with them I'm still in the same position. Windows Vista: itunes 7.3 will not transfer songs to ipod

Please help. I have vista, installed itunes 7.3 and then tried putting my ipod in that was used on a previous computer. All seems well. I sync the ipod and seemingly the songs/podcasts transfer, but when i attempt to listen, no music just flashes green/amber/green/amber. I go back to itunes and it shows that my ipod has the songs on it. I check device manager for the usb hub and it says that windows is attempting to unistall device(code21). Check for solutions nothing. Anyone have any ideas, I've been messing with this for over a week with no success.

However, I have now just been attempting to burn an imported disc and during the intializing period it pops the blanks disc out and says an unknown error occured(2131). Any ideas
