Windows Vista Support

Hi everyone,
Will Director MX 2004 work under Window Vista? I read
someones comments that they were using it and the only problems
they were having was with a particular xtra. I have also read that
director 11 is due in the first half of 2007 and one of the main
updates is to make it work natively in Vista and on Intel MACs.
Some comments from someone with first hand experience that has
tested it on Vista would be very much appreciated.
Thanks
Jason

Hi Jason,
There was a brief thread about this on Direct-L started on
17/9/2006 so
you can read about it in the archives there. Here's the
initial post and
a salient reply:
I have a project which Director is well-suited for, but I'm
concerned about compatibility with Windows Vista. Can anyone
who
has tested projectors (with 3rd party xtras) under the beta
offer
any insights on how it is doing so far?
Our project runs without issues on the current Vista beta
version.
we use the following Xtras:
ActiveX.x32
DirectSound.x32
FileXtra4.x32
TextXtra.x32
Text Asset.x32
pregex.x32
PNG Import Export.x32
Sound Control.x32
Mix Services.x32
OnStage.dll
Font Asset.x32
Font Xtra.x32
Flash Asset.x32
ImgXtra.x32
Netfile.x32
Os4Xtra.x32
FileIo.x32
INetURL.x32
budapi.x32
Netlingo.x32
I only tried this as a projector, not in the Director app
itself
(which isn't installed yet on the Vista box.

  • Does Windows Vista support Adobe Reader XI?

I have been trying to upgrade Reader to the newest version to no avail.  When I click on "Get Adobe Reader XI", this is what shows up in my download page:
    Adobe Reader X (10.1.4) (48.49 MB)
Your system: Windows Vista / Server 2008, English
Please help me work around this if possible.  Thank you.

Vista is not a supported OS for Reader XI. You musit use 10.1.4.

  • You Tube requires Flash update. Worked for laptop Windows 7 but not PC Windows Vista. Can you help?

You Tube said I needed latest Adobe Flash Player, so uninstalled old version and reinstalled latest version 11.6.602.171 on PC running Windows Vista Home Basic SP2 32-bit OS.  My system says it's there, but it still won't work on You Tube - still get same message saying Ineed latest version.
Had same message on my Laptop running Windows 7 and it updated and works fine.  I use Internet Explorer 9.
Detailed Problem Description: Problem with downloading latest Adobe Flash update and viewing YouTube.  On PC running Windows Vista Home Basic SP2 32-bit OS, You Tube home page red banner at top said I needed to install latest Adobe Flash Player but even after installing, it does not work and will not play most videos in browser and shows black screen with message still asking to download latest version.  Seems to be rather random as to which videos it will play and which ones it won't, although there may be some common link (see examples below).  I thought it might have been HTML5 problem but I have successfully played HTML5 and Non-HTML videos through Adobe test site (Adobe Flash Player Help/Video Playback Issues) as well as Stage Videos. (Note: Had same You Tube messages when viewing on Laptop running Windows 7 but that updated without problem.)
Ran Adobe Uninstall. Closed all other programs before reinstalling direct from Adobe (rather than You Tube link). No change.
Ran all Adobe troubleshooting suggestions listed at http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/flash-player-games-video-or.html#main_2__Disable_Ac tiveX_Filtering__if_you_are_using_Internet_Explorer_9_.
Removed browsing data and deleted cache, checked that Internet Tools\Safety\Active X filtering was disabled (but in Internet Option\Security, Active X controls are enabled), disabled Hardware Acceleration, restarted computer but no change to You Tube viewing.  Re-enabled, but no change.  (WOULD LOVE ADVICE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE IF I SHOULD KEEP THIS ENABLED OR DISABLED.)
I have updated graphics drivers for NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT- although had to do manually as NVIDIA auto system scan said "could not detect your GPU". Noted they said Windows Vista supports up to Direct X 10, but my system is running Direct X 11.  Had optional update message for "nVidia Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM 1.2, other Hardware NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT" on both PC & laptop.  Laptop downloaded fine. Tried to download on PC but was not successful. Error Code 80070103, possibly because system had already been updated? Current driver version 9.18.13.1407 - "Windows has determined that your current driver software is up to date".
Running Norton 360 but it did not block or indicate any problems with Flash Player download.
Problem URL: http://www.youtube.com/?utm_source=navclient (red banner at top of home page says I still need to download latest Adobe Flash).

    Dear Chris,
Thanks for reply.  I ran the recommened Adobe uninstall program so assumed it deleted whatever it should have, before installing new version.  When it didn't work I followed instructions in Flash Player help page (screen shot below) which said to delete the Roaming App Data/Macromedia/Flash folder and Roaming App Data/Adobe/Flash folder, which I did.
Below are screen shots of C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash files as they currently stand.  I have a fuzzy recollection that it was deleted at some point because I think I went searching for it during one troubleshooting session and it couldn't be found (but maybe I'm geting confused with the App Date folders?).  Anyway I presume these current files are all post-reinstallation as the dates are all 5 or 6 March (did them before and after midnight).  I'm on Australian time - not sure where you are. However, notice install.log date is 21/05/2010 and Flash Player Trust sub-folder is dated 6/09/2008.
When I right click on the screen of both videos that will and won't play, I just get a list of options starting at "Copy video URL" down to "About HTML5".   So not sure what you mean when you say "For the videos that do play, when you right click on them what version of Flash Player is reported at the bottom of the context menu?" as I can't see any info like this.  Do I click somewhere else?
If you are able to get the info you are after yourself, two videos that will work are:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLKlTN1JN7w and
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGbrFmPBV0Y
Also, with hardware acceleration enabling or disabling, the only place I can find to do this is through the Adobe Flash Help page http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/flash-player-games-video-or.html#main_2__Disable_Ac tiveX_Filtering__if_you_are_using_Internet_Explorer_9_
and right clicking on the Flash Player info box, going into Settings and checking or unchecking the Enable box.  Do you know if there is another setting in my actual computer where I can do this and or there's some other setting I need to change?  There doesn't seem to be anything similar when I go through Conrol Panel - Flash Player.
    5. Delete all Flash Player browsing data
a.. Click Start > Control Panel.
      b.. Double-click Flash Player.
c.. In the Flash Player Setting Manager, click Advanced.
d.. Under Browsing Data and Settings, click Delete All.
    6. Remove Flash Player cache
a.. On your computer, select Start > Run. (On Windows 7, click Start and type in Search Programs and Files.)
b.. Type %appdata%\Adobe and click OK.
c.. Delete the Flash Player folder.
      d.. Repeat step 1 and type %appdata%\Macromedia.
e.. Delete the Flash Player folder.

  • Windows Vista conflicting with Clean Access?

When I try to log into Clean Access to use the internet, it gives me an error message saying that in order to fulfill all of my requirements and get into the system, I need to download windows defender. But Windows defender comes with Windows Vista, which is what I have...So when I try to download Windows Defender and install it, it gives me a popup saying that I already have it on my comnputer and that I don't need to download it. Any ideas? Anybody? Please? Am I even in the right place for this kind of question?

If you using Windows Vista,You already have windows defender. Ensure the version of the defender because if Windows Defender informed you that an update is available, you are running an older version.
Below are Windows Vista Supported Antispyware Product as of the latest release of the Cisco Clean Access software.
    Product version - 1.x
    AS Checks Supported
    (Minimum Agent Version Needed) are:

    Spyware Definition - (4.0.5.0)

  • How can I install lightroom 5 into windows vista?

I can download it with Adobe Application manager, but when I am doing an installation, it says me that there is error!!!
Help me please, how i can istall lightroom into my laptop, i have windows vista business (service pack 2).
    Thank you very much!

    http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/windows-vista-supported-lightroom-5.html
"Windows Vista is not an officially supported operating system for the release version of Lightroom 5, and it doesn't run on Windows Vista."
Lightroom 5 requires Windows 7 or Windows 8.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-lightroom/tech-specs.html
Unofficial workarounds exist online to get Lightroom 5 running on Vista but try them at your own risk. There will be no support if anything goes wrong.

  • Windows Vista on new 13"-MacBooks?

    Hi everyone,
I've ordered the new MacBook (13") and now I would like to ask you the following: does Windows Vista supports all hardware-features (especially the graphics card and backlit-keyboard) of the new MacBook (completely)?
I know, I can use Bootcamp to install Windows Vista natively, but I would like to know whether it's working great or not...
    Thanks in advance,
    best regards,
    Dominik.

the video drivers seems very good - all functions supported as far as i can tell. the keyboard backlight on my machine fades on and off, which i doubt it's supposed to do - but i'm running vista x64 which seems a bit rough around the edges on the bootcamp drivers......

I really think BootCamp 2.x drivers probably are behind in being fully compatible, though the one's on the OEM OS X DVD are newer I doubt they have full Nvidia support.

  • Windows vista no longer supported?

when i try download a trial version of photoshop it says my system is no longer supported i run  a windows vista 32 bit. is there no way around this? do i have to get a new computer to be able to use nphotoshop or upgrade my system?

GCordeaux Photoshop CC does not support Windows Vista.  You can find the system requirements at System requirements | Photoshop.  You may want to look at upgrading to Windows 7 or 8.  If you do decide to purchase a new computer then I would recommend one with a 64-bit processor to help ensure you meet future system requirements.

  • I'm trying to play a video but it does not work or load up, issue? No video with supported format or MIME type found issue in Firefox 28.0 Windows vista

no playback of videos -latest flash player installed and updated add-ons but it still dosn't work. only youtube works but no other site.

Will you not post the link to the video like I requested, or at least let us know if you can play the videos on the pages I linked to? It would prevent more random guesswork.
Firefox doesn't try to play files it can't handle. When coming across a direct link to a file that could be handled by a plug-in, but that plug-in isn't installed, Firefox would display a download prompt.<br>
That's not the issue here, where there's an unsupported format error. That suggests an MP4 file that can't be played. Even if a plug-in that can handle MP4 files were installed, Firefox probably wouldn't use it due to bug 861090.
Firefox has supported HTML5 H.264 video on Windows Vista since version 22.0. There's no point in installing the very old — and likely abandoned — Windows Media Player plug-in.

  • A Troubleshooting Guide for Windows Vista and iTunes 8 - user supported

ITunes 8 and Windows Vista can be an explosive combination. Having helped to troubleshoot some problems for people, I decide to consolidate my information all down to one post. The information comes from various sources, and I will try to annotate where it came from. Please let’s keep this a solutions listing post. So people can come to it when they have a problem and easily find a solution.
    *ITunes will not install:*
ITunes will sometimes not install or the installation will hang up under Vista. First I will give some generalized steps to take in order of priority, and then get into some specifics.
    General
*1. Turn off your Anti-Virus Software.* Some A/V software will prevent the installer from accessing the Windows System Files causing the install to Bork.
*2. Uninstall third-party Audio-Video Codecs.* Installing iTunes also installs Quicktime which installs the necessary codecs to play its supported files. Some codec packs, such as DivX and XviD have the ability to read these files, and their method of decoding these files can cause conflicts with the Quicktime installation. Even third-party CD Burning (Roxio, Nero, and the like) software can cause this problem. Once iTunes is installed, you can reinstall these codecs without any ill effects.
*3. Disable Windows Defender.* Windows Defender is a resident A/V type program native to Windows Vista. It can also sometimes cause conflicts during installation. To disable it, go to the Windows Defender tab in your Control Panel, and chose disable in the dialogue box.
    Specific
*1. When I install iTunes, the installation stops and I get error message 2738.* This error message means that the Visual Basic Script is not being installed properly or it could be disabled. To fix this we need to re-initialize the Visual Basic Script server. Do the following:
In the search panel of the start bar, type cmd.exe.
When the search results are listed, right click on cmd.exe and select run as administrator.
Type in the following at the command prompt: regsvr32 vbscript.dll and hit enter.
Run the iTunes install program again.
*2. ITunes installed properly, but now I am stuck in a reboot loop.*
This behaviour is a known problem to Apple and they are working on it. What is happening, when you run the program, it is involking a repair check of your installation. Beaconfield came up with a work around to use until Apple patches the software.
“Navigate to C:\Program Files\iTunes\ and right click on iTunes.exe then select Sent To > Desktop. This will create a new icon that should load iTunes just fine.”
I know there are more issues out there, but these seem to be the most common. If anyone has anymore solutions, please add them to this post. Like I said initially, I would like this post to be an easy reference for troubleshooting.
    Thanks again,

Ok, so I saved my Windows Media Player playlist as M3U files and imported them into iTunes. Wow! What a complete mess that made of my library.
All songs that were on the playlists (hundreds of songs) were duplicated in my iTunes library. iTunes would show two entries for each song. When I right clicked and choose 'Show in Windows Explorer' both entries point to the same song, it just shows up twice in iTunes.
I cleared my iTunes library file and am starting over. I'm thinking about just going back to Windows Media Player. I've been listening to music off my Blackberry and it's really been fine. Just seemed a shame that my iPod was sitting in a drawer because of all the issues I'm having with iTunes and Vista.
The original problem I had months ago was that iTunes crashed on Vista and lost all my Playlists. I was so upset I put all my music on my SD card on my Blackberry, because Windows Media Player makes it so easy to back up your playlists. They are saved as files and can be included in any automatic backups (I have scheduled backups to another hard drive)
I thought with this new version of iTunes I could at least export the playlists to files so they can be backed up, I just don't know if I can face re-creating the playlists in iTunes.

  • Windows Vista lightroom 2 RAW support

I have read many responses to other questions about this but no solution.  I need to be able to edit my RAW photos in lightroom 2 that is fully updated and i use Windows Vista at this time.  Any suggestions that are realistic?

What camera are you using?  A "fully updated" Lightroom 2 is really ancient software anymore. Lightroom has progressed to Lightroom 5.6, and it seems that Lightroom 6.0 is on the horizon. No announcements have been made regarding that, however.
If you shoot JPEG, you have no concerns using Lightroom 2. But since you want support for your raw files, unless you are using a very old camera it is unlikely that you will be able to work on those native raw file's. It might be possible for you to use the DNG converter, a newer version, to create DNG (digital negative) copies of your raw files. And then you could work on those using Lightroom 2.
Lightroom has undergone significant changes and improvements since Lightroom 2. If you have invested in a modern more up-to-date camera I think it would be a shame for you to limit yourself to the capabilities of Lightroom 2. It would certainly be worth the investment for you to upgrade. However, you are limited there because the new version of Lightroom will not support Windows Vista. And since Vista is no longer supported by Microsoft you might consider a new computer with a new operating system.

  • Windows Vista won't support my M

Sorry - me again. I have a Creative Zen 20mg and Windows Vista won't load the CD. I then looked for various download options online and have been told that they won't work with Vista and Creative have no plans to change this. I need to upload my music to the PC! Is there any way that I can sort this some other way? I've seen from the other threads that there aren't drivers available. ?Many thanks.Message Edited by Ellymoo on 03-02-20080:57 AM

There are several components you would need to install for access to the player. ALL must be installed in Compatabilty mode for XP. In addition to the one you listed The Creative Nomad Jukebox plug-in is one of the components that needs to be installed if you have not. The version number is 2.00.20. http://support.creative.com/downloads/download.aspx?nDownloadId=9320 The other component after that one is the Creative Nomad Explorer version 3.0.0http://support.creative.com/download...ownloadId=8069

  • Windows Vista 64 Bit and Button Support - Qosmio G30?

Windows Vista 64 Bit and Button Support?

Everybody claiming that Vista x64 (or Ultimate) can't be used with FN keys or Flash Cards is utterly wrong!
I have a Qosmio G30 running Vista x64 Ultimate, and have both FN keys, Toshiba Flash Cards and (partly) the hardware buttons at the top working.
After a lot of research, I found that Toshiba has released a 64-bit version of VAP called util_tvap_27581D. If you google it, you might discover it...
