I have upgraded my computer to windows vista. I have an Ipod video, I have upgraded my Itunes software as required and now cannot sync to my IPod any music that I have loaded to my Itunes Software from CD's. This is very frustrating, can anyone offer any suggestions???

  • Windows Vista Sync for a Tunsten T3

Just got a new computer with Vista loaded and am trying, fruitlessly I might add, to download, install and use Palm Desktop version 6.2 to sync my Tungsten to my computer. I think I've tried almost every possible way to make it work to no avail. Is there anyone who may know the fix or can assure me that there is no solution. Yout help is greatly appreciated.

    Post relates to: Tungsten T3

    1) The location for the Bluetooth Update software for the Tungsten T3 to Support a HP Pavilion dv7 running Vista 64-bit OS.
-im not sure what bluetooth update software you mean in your HP pavillion PC for the T3. if your PC has a builtin bluetooth on it,  you can see the brand/model and version in the device manager.
if there maybe updates that should came from the manufacturer of the bluetooth device. so far there are 3 known drivers/stack for bluetooth that i know: widcomm, toshiba and generic/microsoft stacks.
    2) Instructions on updating the Bluetooth settings on the T3 that do NOT involve using the HotSync (since that clearly isn't possible).
-there is no need to update the bluetooth settings of the T3 if you wish to do bluetooth hotsync as latest bluetooth versions available in the market are backwards compatible. so once the bluetooth stack is define, is just a matter of picking up the right settings for the PC and the T3 to communicate and do hotsync or send files and folders via the bluetooth radio.
    3) Explanation why Palm is no longer supporting the T3. The website lists the product as mature, not end of life, nor end of support. Just as a note, the T3 is still one of the best and most powerful units it has ever produced.
-palm phones and handhelds has been classified into 4 categories or lifecyles. current, mature, legacy and historical. for mature units, these are units that are no longer sold as new at palm stores and its authorized dealers or retailers. palm are not totally abandoning support for these models although some services and options are no longer available.  you can still do repair and phone support with a fee and free chat support.
    4) Explanation why Palm/ACCESS is requiring Palm users to open up their PC's to clear access vulnerabilities via Bluetooth.
-it was indicated in the release of palm desktop 6.2 that windows vista 64bit is not supported. however, there were some who was able to find a workaround and that's bluetooth and wifi sync.
it's optional though as it's the users prerogative to try that workaround if they really wanted to sync their devices to the 64bit vista. so if some people find it too risky to try such workarounds then they simply look for another alternative such as other models or may shift to other manufacturers depending on what's feasible in their part.
    5) Explanation why on my previous laptop (HP Pavilion dv6000 running 64-bit Vista) everything worked fine via the USB HotSync.
-in windows vista sync 64bit for mature devices like the T3, it may work in some cases but it is bound to fail since it's not supported as indicated in the release of palm desktop 6.2 which is the only version that will work for windows vista.

  • Windows Vista recognizes iPod but not iPad...

Windows Vista (with latest service pack; 32-bit) will not recognize my iPad. It was able to before and my last iPad backup in my iTunes is dated back to March. However, now, when I plug my iPad in, it does not recognize it and does not even show up on the disc drives. I have gone through the numerous methoeds that Apple (and others) suggested including reinstalling iTunes, reinstalling the Apple Mobile Device Drivers, restarting my computer using msconfig, etc.
To test out whether it was an Apple driver on my computer or not, I inserted my Gen 6 iPod Classic and it recognized it with no problem. If you know how to solve this, please let me know.
    Thank You,
    Tulga
    Misc. info:
iPad - Version 4.2.1 (Need to connect to iTunes to update)
    iTunes - Version 10.4.1.10

    iPod - Version 2.0.1 PC

Pad not Connecting to iTunes - System Requirements
If you've ever synced an iPod or iPhone, then you will know about these. The computer you're syncing to must have iTunes version 9.1 or later, must support USB 2.0, and the Operating System must be Mac OS X (10.5.8 or later), Windows XP (with Service Pack 3), Windows Vista, or Windows 7.
iPad not Connecting to iTunes - Charge your iPad
If your iPad has a low or dead battery, then it won’t show up in iTunes until it has a little bit of a charge. Charge the iPad for 10 minutes or so, then try to connect it again to see whether iPad not detected by iTunes.
iPad not Connecting to iTunes - Restart your iPad
To restart the iPad, hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears, then slide your finger on the slider to turn it off. Turn it back on by holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
iPad not Connecting to iTunes - Restart your computer
Restarting your computer can resolve any software/hardware issues that might be keeping your iPad from showing up in iTunes, and is always worth a shot.
iPad not Connecting to iTunes - Reinstall iTunes
If all else fails, try removing iTunes and reinstalling it to solve the problem of iPad not detected by iTunes.
After the problem of iPad not connecting to iTunes solved out, you can do the iPad Transfer with iTunes, or you can also try the ipad to comp transfer easily and freely.

  • Windows Vista & My IPOD

    Can anybody help?
My previous computer crashed and I was unable to retrieve anything before it did. I bought myself a new computer with the Windows Vista operating system.
I have reinstalled the ITUNES Software and I am trying to download all of the songs from my IPOD to the new ITUNES library but cant.
I also cannot play any of the songs on my IPOD. They are there and displayed, but they are all "grayed out" and dont respond when I click on them.
    Any advice out there?
    Dog

"I also cannot play any of the songs on my IPOD. They are there and displayed, but they are all "grayed out" and dont respond when I click on them"
Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to syncronise (automatically update) with iTunes.
"I have reinstalled the ITUNES Software and I am trying to download all of the songs from my IPOD to the new ITUNES library but cant"
Connect your iPod to your computer. When get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 and Vista so it requires a little adaptation as the iPod preferences are no longer in the location described for instance also it won't transfer playlists. However if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated that will let you transfer individual tracks then there are a number of third party utilities that will do what you want. You can use these to retrieve individual music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, check for Vista compatibility as they may not all have been updated yet. Some of these are free and some are commercial but generally they are not very expensive. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. Relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Windows vista, sync and restore errors. I give up.

    I have had continuous problems with my 8gb ipod touch, 2nd gen. I just returned one which I had had for 4 months during which it worked, but then I could not get it to restore and now have a new one and have the same problem. When I first got the new one , it would not sync it had a number of errors such as;
    - Attempting to copy to the disk 'X' ipod failed. An error occurred while writing to the device.
-The ipod 'X' iod cannot be synced an error occurred while writing to the device.
    -Required disk cannot be found.
-Also something about Apple Mobile Device
So I uninstalled itunes and all related programs and then reinstalled them.
I managed to get a few songs on to the ipod but they were distorted and the album art became chequered.
I then tried to restore it and have had more errors such as:
-The 'ipod' ipod could not be restored, an unknown error occurred (6).
-The 'ipod' ipod could not be restored, an unknown error occurred (14).
I have done all the things specified such as:
    -Restarting the computer,
    -Reinstalling Itunes,
-Using differnt USB ports on the computer,
    -Removing the firewall, Zone Alarm,
    -Removing everything from itunes.
Is it due to an itunes update possibly around june, that I have started experiencing problems.
Will I be able to fix it?
Any help would be appreciated, otherwise I shall return it and not bother with an ipod again.
    Many Thanks

I have exactly the same problem with my 8gb ipod touch 2nd gen and have tried everything you have with no success (see http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2531624&tstart=0)
It's definitely due to the itunes 9.2 update in June. I get the same itunes restore and sync errors you have on Windows Vista and Windows 7. It only starts restoring and syncing properly on Windows XP. I've tried downgrading to an itunes version that worked for me on Vista before, but Apple have updated the ipod touch firmware so that its not supported anymore by the earlier versions of itunes.
Apple phone support is a waste of time. They want to charge me £25 before they are interested in helping as they say my ipod is out of warranty - but its not the ipod that's broken, its the poorly written ITUNES, so why shouldn't I get free support for itunes even though my IPOD, which is perfectly fine, is out of warranty?!
Truth is, now apple has your money, they don't care...

Well, although iTunes 7.1.0.59 (and now 7.1.1.5) cleared up some problems with running/installing iTunes software on it, Vista isn't really officially compatible at the moment.
What exactly is happening when installing the iTunes/iPod software?
If you are getting any error messages, please quote what ehey say, and/or when the problem occurs.
Be sure that you've upgraded to the latest iTunes version (7.1.1.5). Here is the download page for it:

  • Windows Vista User: iPod Mini found but driver not...

    Hi There,
I have a 2 year old iPod mini and I have been using iTunes on Vista for a while now. Upon connecting the iPod to the laptop though I have hit a major problem - Window's finds the hardware but not the driver and so it won't work. I've tried everything which the 'support' section has suggested but it just won't work!!
    Please help!

  • Problem with  Windows Vista and Ipod!!!!

I tried a couple of times to import my music from my computer and cds to my ipod nano .
The thing is that I know I have transfered some songs and photos properly cause I can see the files are in the ipod memory but as soon as I unplug it from the USB and try to find them in the nano menu it's empty , no music , no photos , nothing...
    What can I do?
Can somebody help me or give me some advice?
    thanks a lot

if you were on an XP or 2000 box, my first thought would be to check for a Windows drive letter confusion, as per:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear
i don't have a Vista box at this stage, so i'm not quite sure where Vista keeps its "Drive Management" analogue ... but if you can find that, try changing the drive letter to see if that helps.

  • ITunes iPhone and Windows Vista - Syncing Issue

I was trying to upload 2 new albums I have and it seems it re-synced my whole music library to my iphone.
Is there a video or something I can watch that shows how to use iTunes correctly, and to sync new songs without having to re-sync the whole entire library to my iPhone.
    Thanks.
Black MacBook, 2.0GHz Core Duo, 1GB Ram, 80GB, Superdrive   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   8GB iPhone

There really isnt much to syncing music. I have read several posts of folks complaining that making a simple change to one song caused the entire library to resync.
Suggestion - turn off automatic syncing when you plug your iPhone. Then choose Sync only selected items, and then select all your music. Sync. Then make a change to one song and manually sync again. See if only that one song syncs.

  • ITunes 7.7, Windows Vista, 80GB iPod classic issues...

Since installing iTunes 7.7, I have been unable to anything with it. When I connect my iPod, it freezes iTunes, and subsequently the rest of my system.
At one point, iTunes recognised my iPod, but told me that I had to reset it to factory settings. When I did, everything was fine until I ejected. When I reconnected, I went through the same thing.
This was after an hour or so of iTunes telling me that it could not recognise my iPod.
I should mentioned that I uninstalled, and reinstalled iTunes numerous times. Attempted to revert back to 7.6 to no avail. Then reverted my hard drive back a few days.
My iPod has likewise, been restored at least three times, since it has not shown up with anything on any other computer, since 7.7 was installed.
I get the feeling that I am not the only person with this problem, however is there a way to resolve it?

  • Windows Vista not locating iPod Touch

Hello all! I recently got an iPod Touch and have run into a problem. I tried syncing it on my PC (Windows Vista Home Premium 32Bit) and was only able to charge it but not sync it. Later today, I tried syncing the iPod Touch on the other PC which has XP on it and it worked. I have tried several times to do it on the Vista computer but nothing seems to be working. I really need help on how to make it so that Windows Vista finds iPod Touch when I plug it in the USB.

  • Playing video in iTunes on laptop running Windows Vista

I recently changed my computer. I now have an HP Pavilion running windows Vista (use to have XP). I have a video iPod -30GB. I downloaded iTunes onto the new equipment without incident, but that is the last thing that went smoothly.
I can no longer watch TV shows or movies from iTunes. The video plays like a slide show of stills (the audio is real-time however). Eventually I will get an error message from Windows and it closes the application.
I am also having issues with syncing my iPod and computer. I get a message requiring me to delete all of the content of the iPod and replace it with the contents of iTunes.I haven't done this -no trust and no backup
This message is from iTunes. I suspect it is a security feature to prevent downloading to more than one iPod, as iTunes doesn't seem to 'know' my iPod anymore. Syncing has also caused iTunes to close and my computer to reboot. Has anyone else had these problems?
Any suggestions ... short of throwing the Windows computer out of a window?
