Windows Vista wont install Ipod drivers

OK I NEED HELP....
I have Windows Vista and I am trying to install my iPod Nano, but everytime I plug my iPod in it ask me to insert the CD that came with it. As I don't have a CD I just click to install drivers automatically. Than it gives me an error saying 'unable to install drivers'. The divers do show up in the device manger under- other devices but there is a little warning sign next to it. So I right click on it and update driver, which it then tells me that it can't update driver. I have the latest version on iTunes and Quicktime, and I have also done a restore on my pc. Spoken to Apple 4 times!!! got no where with them. My iPod works fine on Windows XP machine, but not my Windows Vista. Has anyone else had any troubles with Vista??

I'm not sure my problem with Vista is the same. New computer with Vista, and I'm trying to transfer my library from old computer to new one. I loaded latest version of iTunes. When I put in my apple ID, my acct balance and items in my shopping cart appeared. When I connect my iPod, it is recognized.
I found an article that gave two options for copying library to new computer. One was to use backup discs to RESTORE, and the other was to use the iPod as a hard drive. It says that it will ask if I want to restore when I insert backup disc, but it does not ask. I tried Import, but tht didn't work either. When I connect my iPod, it doesn't copy the contents from there either. It only gives me the option of erasing iPod and loading what is on new library (which is only about 12 songs). I get a msg that I am synced to another library and can only be synced to one. I still got that msg after I deauthorized the old one.
Any suggestions on how to load music onto new library?
Thanks in advance!

i also have the same exact problem and i was told by some apple person to take the ipod back to where i bought it and have them fix it which i'll be doin this week but other than that i think that apple needs to make a version of itunes compativle for vista
Actually they do. The latest version of iTunes is Vista compatible.
A lot of people have had problems with the iPod Shuffle and Vista. It is not an iPod problem, but rather a problem with Vista recognizing some flash based drives (of which the Nano and Shuffle are examples).
A couple of solutions to the Vista problem I have seen are as follows:
    1) The first solution is that Vista sometimes does not look for drivers in the correct place. When the wizard asks you to provide a location for the drivers type in C:\WINDOWS\System32 and see if it properly locates and detects the iPod and loads the drivers.
    2) Have a look in the hardware device list inside Control Pane. You may see you iPod listed (it should appear under the other devices heading) with a yellow triangle next to it. If it appears here then right click it select properties. Next click update device driver. Do not do the automatic find, rather click "I will choose the device from a list." Click on "storage device." With any luck VISTA now finds a USB mass storage device and install it properly.

  • XPLITE ON ASUS EEE WONT INSTALL N81 DRIVERS

I have been trying to set up my wifes n81 to act a modem for her asus eee. The asus eee is running on xplite(condensed windows xp.)When the phone is connected to the asus by usb cable it recognises it and seems to be trying to download drivers but eventually a ballon comes up saying that drivers could not be installed. I am assuming that the relevant "software" to download these drivers has been cropped for the xplite. Can anyone tell me how to add this missing feature or where to go from here. I have managed to pair the n81 as a modem with my laptop running full Vista and so a guess xplite is short of something. Thanks in advance. Jim

You don't need to install anything, ath9k has been part of the kernel for a loooooong time. Rather than trying to install random drivers, you should diagnose why wireless doesn't work out of the box. The first place to look is dmesg, so after you try to connect, run dmesg and then post here it's output.

  • Windows Vista Ultimate installed via Boot Camp?

Can install Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit using the latest version of Boot Camp on OS X Lion 10.7.4, or is it not supported? This article is not clear: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1461

You must install Windows 7 if you use OS X Lion or Mountain Lion. You can install Windows Vista, but the drivers aren't compatible with this edition

  • Windows Vista not locating iPod Touch

Hello all! I recently got an iPod Touch and have run into a problem. I tried syncing it on my PC (Windows Vista Home Premium 32Bit) and was only able to charge it but not sync it. Later today, I tried syncing the iPod Touch on the other PC which has XP on it and it worked. I have tried several times to do it on the Vista computer but nothing seems to be working. I really need help on how to make it so that Windows Vista finds iPod Touch when I plug it in the USB.

  • Tried installing Windows Vista, cancelled install and now it won't boot from the OEM Vista DVD, all i get is BOOTMGR is missing error... Ctrl Alt Del to restart and when i turn the computer on i get a blank screen and pressing C is not working to boot....

    Topic says it all...
My friend started a installation of Windows Vista, but pulled out after deleting all partitions...
So now i power it on, get a blank screen (seems a bit gray because of backlighting, should show the apple logo right?)...
Then after like 15-20sec it will throw out a:
    BOOTMGR is missing
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
I have a OEM Windows Vista DVD in the drive, and i know... Windows 7 is better... but i'm not that fond of stealing software from Microsoft and i have 10 licenses for Vista...
I have tried pressing C while booting up but it doesn't work...
Does anyone here have a magic soloution for me, and no i will not install MacOS on it !!!

Deleting Boot Camp partitions the conventional way will not work . You must use the Boot Camp Assistant to remove a Boot Camp partition. Here is a link to the guide.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup_10.6.pdf
The way to restart is to hold down the option/alt key during startup* and then selecting the Mac OS. If you have a valid Boot Camp install of Windows it would show up during this type of start up.
    * hold down immediately after pressing the power button and until the OS choice screen appears.
    To summarize.
1 Use the above method to boot into Mac OS.
2 Download the instructions and read them.
3 Use Boot Camp Assistant to remove the partition.
4 Pick your friends more carefully.

has not passed windows logo testing to verify its compatibility with windows XP
continuing your installation of this software may impair or destabilize the correct operation

  • Windows Vista Wont Boot!! HELP!!

Hello -- I have owned and Acer Aspire M5641 for 4 months with Windows Vista Home Premium preloaded by Acer.
I started having problems with random shut dows, restarts, blue screens. The last blue screen was 0x0000007B. I couldnt get past it, not even in safe mode. So I emailed Acer Support (apparently I have to pay to call) and explained the problem to them, asked for help. They told me to do a System Restore back to Factory Defaults.
I went ahead, completed that and now when I turn on the system I get the Acer splash screen, and then  a black screen "Windows Boot Manager" that says: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be to blame. Well isnt it setting back to factory defaults, How can there be a software/hardware problem?  Anyways, it continues to say : To fix the problem insert installation disc and restart computer. If you dont have this disc, contact the computer manufacturer/system administrator.( I have contacted Acer, they are no longer responding to my pleas for help. I refuse to call and pay $300 for them to probably decide not to help me anyways.) The screen also says,
    File: \windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
    Status: 0xc0000221
Info: Windows failed to load because the kernel is missing or corrupt.
It also gives me an option instead of loading Vista (which I cant) to use a tool: Windows memory diagnostic tool which comes up with, status: Hardware problems were detected, to identify and repair those problems, contact your system administrator/computer manufacturer.
I have tried to contact Acer, thus far they havent helped/responded. I tried booting from a Vista Recovery CD, but that was of no help either.
Can I use a Recovery DVD from another computer manufacturer? (a friend has one from HP) Or is there a way to get a Vista install disc from somewhere? Without buying new from store. I have the product key from the preloaded version that came on the computer.
Any Ideas/Suggestion would be greatly appreciated!! Thank You!!

From what I could find on your particular error code, it appears that the computer had an error as a result of a "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE". Microsoft support can associate that error with a boot sector corruption possibly as a result of a virus. I would possibly lean towards corruption and not a hardware issue because the computer is only 4 months old. Still, to remove the possibility of a failing hard drive, I suggest you bring the unit into your nearest Geeksquad® and have them run diagnostics under the manufacture warranty. Inform the Agent of what you were doing before the error occured so they might be able to give you tips on how to prevent it. But in your current situation, I would suggest reloading the operating system after talking to an agent in a store who can better examine the computer. Recovery discs are unique to your computer and recovery discs from a friend's HP will not work. Call Acer and they should not charge you to inquire about getting a new set of recovery discs. Recovery discs are generally $10 - $30. As an alternative, go to Acer's support site (http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/webpage.cfm?website=AcerPanAm.com/us&siteid=7293&areaid=7) and order the dics from there.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Agent Kevin - CIA Precint 00135

  • Did windows vista kill my ipod?

I recently bought a new computer with windows vista (which I hate, should have gone with the mac). my ipod has been working fine for a very long time now. when I downloaded the newest version of itunes to my new computer and tried to sync my ipod, the ipod froze up and I havnt been able to get the thing working since. I have rebooted, restored, and everything countless times. I decided to go back to my old computer becasue I never had problems with the ipod in the past. I tried all the same things with my old computer numerous times and still nothing. the ipod is on but completly frozen and everytime I reboot or restore the same outcome. the only time that my ipod is not frozen is when it is in diskmode and I have tried rebooting reinstalling numerous times from this mode and still nothing. I realize that there is a new article on the mac website saying that windows vista can currupt your ipod, but this was put on the website after I had apparently killed my ipod. I miss my ipod, can anyone help me????

I have had the same problem- I recently bought a new Windows Vista laptop and plugged in a new Ipod cLASSIC (80gb). It charged up fine and seemed to working, but when I tried to transfer songs onto it and ejected it from the computer, the Ipod just died. It will not turn off or on, cannot be reset and will not charge either on the computer (I've tried it on various computers)or via the mains charger I have. I took it back to the shop, assuming it was a dodgy Ipod and they replaced it. I am now on my 4th new Ipod and the same thing has happened to all of them (each time I plug them in they just stop working). The guys in the Apple Shop (where I took my laptop and Ipod to checked out) can't work out what is going wrong but seem to think it is my laptop. They did not mention anything about Windows Vista not being compatible with Ipods, so I'm not sure what to do for the best. I am currently using my old laptop wich is Windows XP but am considering investing in a new Apple Mac laptop!!
