Windows VPN issue

Hi.
I recently was able to set up a Windows machine to be used as a VPN Server using windows vpn. I port forwarded 1723 from the modem to the router. The modem has a static ip going towards the internet.
I am able to log into the VPN Server from the outside, however I loose internet connection when I do (Which i solved by unchecking the use default gateway box in the connection properties) but I am still not able to access any of the network folders that
I need to see in the VPN Server. Can someone help me out so that I can set the windows vpn up correctly? To summarize, I am already connected to the VPN Server but I can't see any network folders using the UNC path of the folder
When i look at the connected users status network properties in adapter settings, for say USER1. In status, it says that ipv4 connectivity is not connected and the details are empty.
Please help me out! Thank you alot!

Hi,
That depends on your requirements, if you need more than one VPN connections, we might consider configure the VPN server on Windows Server OS editions, and you may also check to see if any 3rd-party VPN would suit your requirements.
Besides, if we configured the incoming connections in Windows client, make sure we have the three options selected:
For network sharing files and printers, make sure we have the file and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks selected. Also make sure the client for Microsoft Networks is configured well on the client side.

  • Radius AAA and Windows VPN Client

    Hi,
Im using an ASA 5510 running 8.2(3) and ASDM 6.3(4).  I have been trying to get the Windows VPN to connect to the ASA rather than the Cisco VPN client.  I have managed to get this working but i have come accross a strange issue.
When using the Cisco VPN Client we authenticate through RADIUS using a policy that checks the user is in a specifice security group.
I have applied the same settings to the new Windows VPN settings and it doesnt work.  The VPN dials in correctly and passes authentication to the RADIUS server which grants access according to the Event logs.  The client then gets rejected claiming that username\password is not recognised.
If i remove the user from the security group it works fine using the using another Radius policy.
Any ideas what i can check?
    Thanks
    David

When you say it grant access (as per event logs) having security group defined as a condition. What remote policy you see in the events? Can you post the o/p of event logs. Because even after removing the security group from the remote policy, it didn't let user connect using same policy and worked with the other policy in sequence.

  • Any ideas how to better troubleshoot VPN issue?

    Hi,
I've recently upgraded my WLAN router to a brand new AVM FRITZ!Box WLAN 7390, in part for its VPN capabilities.
So far, I've been unable to create a working connection.
AVM's VPN is based on Cisco IPSec, and they provide a step-by-step procedure on how configure a Mac-based VPN connection (http://www.avm.de/de/Service/Service-Portale/Service-Portal/VPN_Interoperabilita et/16206.php - unfortunately only available in German, sorry). Following it, I still can't get it to work. Contacting their support I got first the same procedure and after pointing out I already followed it a "we don't support other vendors".
Funny enough, I got a second VPN connection to my work's VPN server just fine, though admittedly there we have a true Cisco box.
My initial setup was based on a 192.x.x.x net on my AVM, I could establish a VPN connection but coudn't ping/ssh/http/you-name-the-protocol in either direction. Our companies net is a 10.x.x.x net so, and as I have also VMware fusion running on my Mac with DHCP enabled on a different 192.x.x.x net plus a third 192.x.x.x net from my Wifi access I decided to reconfigure my AVM net to a 172.x.x.x net and stop VMware services for the tests (ie simplify as much as I could to help troubleshoot).
Alas, instead of being able to establish a non-working VPN connection, now I ain't able to get the tunnel up. IKE Phase 1 completes but Phase 2 doesn't.

An earlies test in a Starbucks around here had the same result, during looking at the netstat -nr output I found I got onto a 10.x.x.x net on the Wifi and still could connect to the (different) 10.x.x.x net at work.
My TCP/IP Networking course was around 2000, but the default route seen in the non-working log section looks like bullsh*t to me anyhow: DEFAULT-ROUTE = local-address 172.77.7.14/32
On the other hand, the Phase 2 message seem to indicate a different mode for Phase 2 between the working and the non-working one.
This is from the exported config of my AVM box:

I also noticed an extra "IPSec port-mapping update for en1 ignored" message in the non-working log section, but I'm not sure a) how significant that might be, and b) how to find out what the ignored update might have been to decide whether not ignoring it would help.
A quick test with the AnyConnect Client from Cisco didn't help either, apparently it establishes an https connection first as I got a window which certificate details from my QNAP behind the AVM Box (I got a port forward for https to it)
So I'm looking for any ideas how to better troubleshoot this VPN issue...
    Many thanks in advance!

Ok, found a small typo in my config (had at one point a 172.77.7.14 instead of the 172.22.7.14), no I can also connect from the 172.x.x.x net but still no ping etc. The relevant section of the log looks now like this:

  • CMAK client VPN issues

    Hi,
We have been using the "standard" XP/Windows VPN client with our ISA 2006 Enterprise server for years with no real issues. I've recently decided to start rolling out a new client using Connection Manager Administration Kit (CMAK) so we can efficiently
map/disconnect mapped drives. Tested with a small group of users and no problems at all. Have now rolled the client out to about 10% of our workforce and we are getting
intermittent VPN connectivity issues and I'm sure it's related to our new client. The Remote Access Service stops running and only way to start it up again is to restart our ISA 2006 server. Proxy and firewall services are still fine.
VPN protocol on both old and new clients are PPP.
I've noticed the new client also has software compression enabled where as the old one does not. Could software compression cause this problem?

    Hi,
Is there any error in Logging?
You could also check the blog below.

  • UCCX 7 silent monitor over Windows VPN

We have remote users that connect to our corporate network via Windows VPN.  However we are unable to monitor these users when they work remotely.  Get the "Silent monitor session failed.  Not receiving voice from agent's phone" message.  I'm pretty sure that Windows VPN is not supported by CCX 7 (Premium license).  However wondering if anybody has found a way to circumvent this issue to enable remote users over WVPN to be monitored.

I presume you are using CIPC?
There is no NAT or other packet manipulation happening on the Microsoft VPN head-end is there?
Are you able to open telnet sessions on the ports used for recording from/to CAD and the CCX recording server? This is the most common issue where something is blocking these ports.

  • Yoga 2 13 laptop - Windows 10 issues

I have upgraded to windows 10 and after a few rookie win 10 issues and drivers problems I have 1 last issue to solve. same as listed up this topichttps://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-10/Yoga-2-13-laptop-Windows-10-issues/td-p/2128415 - Shutdown / standby bug: computer hangs often when trying to shutdown or enter standby mode -the display goes black, but the Windows touchkey below the screen still gives vibration feedback, power light stays on and fans keep spinning loud. The solution then is to hold the power button pressed for a long time to force shutdown or wait until the battery depletes. This is noticable when I close the lid and open it later. Ive tried changing "lid close" settings to hibanate etc but it still does the same thing.

I upgrated to Windows 10 on July 31st with my Yoga 2 13 and I only ran into two major issue and a minor issue.
Side note: my Windows logo button on the Bezel (vibrates when you touch it and then brings up the app tiles screen) hasn't worked for some time and still doesn't work after the upgrade - anyone know if there's a software fix, driver location etc?
Major issue 1: No internet connectivity!
    - All network devices show up as working properly and all drivers upto date.
    - No possibility for network connection not even through bluetooth sharing via mobile phone.
I discovered one post suggesting removing all Cisco VPN connections before upgrading as removal after upgrade didn't resolve the issue.
    Fix:
If after upgrading you have no internet connectivity, revert back to your previous windows version, uninstall all Cisco and other VPN clients then reinstall windows 10. Internet connections should work now.
Major issue 2: I am still having issues with Cisco based VPN's not staying connected. Haven't yet investigated a fix at the moment, just dealing with it.
Admin Edit - Microsoft released a support tip related to the VPN / Wifi issue here -  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3084164
    Minor issue:
    - Windows 10 doesn't recognize any of the transitional modes of the yoga (as in Lenovo transitions) resulting in the keyboard and mouse being disabled only in full tablet mode. Using Window's Tablet mode button in the action center doesn't disable these inputs either. Until Lenovo comes up with an update to Transitions this could be a serious annoyance for some folks.
Minus these annoyances the move to windows 10 hasn't been too awful. Granted I haven't had much of an opportunity to try all the software I rely on as of yet, but in the next couple weeks I'm sure I'll discover several other hicups.

    Nishant,
Sorry for the late reply. You may well have resolved this  by now, if you have can I suggest that you update the post with the resolution so others may benefit.
Looking at the logs, I can see that Jabber is trying to login to the IMP server below, but its returning server unreachable error.

  • Remote access Vpn issue

    Dear All,
I have configured remote access vpn without using split tunnel.Everything is working fine.I can access all the inside network which is allowed in acl.
I am facing strange issue now. I have created a pool for remote access vpn with a range 192.168.5.8/29.I can access my internal subnets 10.10.0.0/16.
    I have below acess-list for acl-in.
    access-list acl-in extended permit ip object-group vpnclients 192.168.5.8 255.255.255.248
    object-group network vpnclients
    network-object host 10.110.100.26
    network-object host 10.106.100.15
    network-object host 10.10.10.6
    network-object host 10.10.20.82
    network-object host 10.110.100.48
    network-object host 10.10.20.53
    network-object host 10.10.20.54
    network-object host 10.60.100.1
    network-object host 10.10.10.75
    network-object host 10.10.20.100
    network-object host 10.10.130.136
    network-object host 10.106.100.16
    network-object host 10.106.100.9
    network-object host 10.170.100.1
    network-object host 10.170.100.2
    network-object host 10.170.100.21
    network-object host 10.101.100.20
    network-object host 10.170.100.25
So whichever IPs i have called in vpnclient group is able to access via RA vpn.Issue is when i try to access internal network of 192.168.198.0/24, i am able to access it without adding in vpnclient group. Even for 192.168.197.0/24,192.168.197.0/24 the same. But for 10.10.0.0/16 we can access only after adding in vpnclient group. Any one has face this issue before. Is this because of same network i mean 192.168.0.0 something like that. There is no other staement in acl-in for 192.168.0.0
    Regards
    -Danesh Ahammad

    Hi,
If i read correctly you made the RA vpn "without"  split tunnel, correct? if that is the case, all of the traffic will traverse the vpn connection (tunnel all) , the access-list "acl-in" is of no use to it.
try converting it to use split tunnel, i am sure that way you can not access resources that are not mentioned in the list.

  • I can't eject ("files in use by another application") Windows/Vista Issue?

OK... so in the grand scheme of things, this really is NOT the end of the world... but it sure is super-annoying!! This is my first every Apple product (took a while to get on the bandwagon) and I was hoping for more stability and ease of use... I've called AppleCare several times and they can't help me figure this out... according to them it's a Windows/Vista issue (which DOES seem likely). I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium on a Dell Dimension E521.
Here's how it goes... I plug my iPod in, which opens up iTunes and it syncs fine. I wait until the top of iTunes says "sync complete" and the face of the iPod simply says "Connected". Then I click on the "eject" button next to the iPod listing in iTunes. It pauses for a moment, then I look down and the iPod suddenly has those syncing, circular arrows, moving again and it says "Synchronizing- do not disconnect". And then a few moments later, iTunes gives me a pop-up that says " XXXX ipod cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application"
So obviously, something else is connecting to the iPod and preventing me from ejecting it using iTunes, but I have not been able to figure out what it is!
Since it's something on my machine, I have tried the following:
    - shut down AntiVirus (TrendMicro Internet Security 2008)
    - turned off Windows Firewall
    - went through all the programs running in the task bar and turned them off
    - opened up Task Manager and turned EVERYTHING else I could see off
None of the above have made any difference. The workaround that Apple gave me was to go into Computer and then right click on the listed drive and select "Safely Remove" which usually works (the times it doesn't work, it gives a similar message saying the device was being used by another application and can't be removed, try again later). But 90% of the time it works.
I use that or the Eject option when I right click on that drive (not sure the difference, they seem to do the same thing). The workaround works, but I'd sure LOVE to get iTunes to be able to eject my iPod!!
Here's what I've done regarding this iPod and iTunes:
    - reset the iPod
    - restored the iPod
    - uninstalled and re-installed iTunes
    - selected and unselected the various things I'm syncing (currently: Music, TV Shows, Podcasts, Photos) to see if it was one of them causing the issue
NONE of the above has made any difference (and I've done each about 2-3 times, ZERO exaggeration).
I've called into AppleCare about half a dozen times now, hoping to get that one brilliant tech that knows more than the others... but no luck yet... so I thought I'd try this forum to see if one of the brilliant posters here can help me sort this out.
PLEASE- ANY help you can provide (or even just point me in the "right" direction of how to determine this) would be GREATLY appreciated!!
    Thanks so much in advance,
    SC

I am using windows Vista and having this problem also (not exactly, but iTunes gives pop-up that "files are in use"). Acting a suggestion from another answer in this thread, I clicked on Computer and selected eject...windows did warn me that the device was in use, but also gave me a CONTINUE button, which I clicked and it was ejected...had to go back to iTunes and eject the iPod there also, but it did eject

We have a 10 person office - all either use Acrobat XI or Reader XI.  One person is on Windows 7.  The rest are on Windows 8 (not 8.1).  I say this because I thought it was a Windows 8 issue, but having the same problems on the Windows 7 machine. We are all having problems opening pdf's sent to us from other firms. This has increased in frequency over the past two months. We've checked with the various firms, and their other clients are not having problems. Some pdfs open but with a lot of missing content and strange formatting, others won't open at all.  There are different error messaged depending upon the doc.  Some are regarding the fonts, for example "can't extract the embedded font...."  Others are "insufficient data" errors.  There are more, but for purposes of keeping this short, I won't include them.  Another unrelated issue is that we are having trouble printing excel files to pdf.  The files end up with bad formatting.  I've worked with adobe "chat" support, our IT consultants with no resolution.  I also haven't found any similar "known issue" online  Would very much appreciate any assistance.  Thank you

The font embedding can be a problem if not done and you are trying to view the PDF and do not have the font on your machine. Acrobat will often try to find a replacement, but it is not always a good choice. Sometimes the "Use Local Fonts" button can be changed in state to resolve some of the viewing issues.
If you are trying to copy or export info, then it is important that you have the fonts on your system. Otherwise, the message you are getting about embedded fonts would not be showing up.
As for Excel formatting, be sure that the Adobe PDF printer is selected in the printer screen before you look for the paging and formatting of the file. In most OFFICE programs, if you change the printer the application will reflow the document to best match the printer (called "using printer metrics"). So check before you create the PDF that the layout is correct.

  • Windows 8 Issues

So, I have purchased 'Windows 8 Pro' and am working to get it stable on my W520.
    Specs:
    - Lenovo W520 4270-CTO
    - i7 2720qm
    - Quadro 2000m
    - 16gb G-Skill DDR3
    - 120gb Intel 320 SSD
    Usage:
    - Systems Engineer using various development suites, virtualization technologies (directed i/o is a must), and other processor/ram intensive activities. I am looking to use Hyper-V and do some fairly heavy infrastructure simulations.
    - Occasional games (usually DOTA, Skyrim, etc.) which run at high FPS with gfx settings near maxed (Starcraft 2 is an exception, which doesn't work at all...  Stupid Blizzard...)
    Windows 8 Issues:
    - Cannot boot off install media with VT-d Virtualization Technology enabled. If I re-enable it post-install, sometimes it crashes, sometimes it doesn't.
    - Blue screens on sleep resume
    - Crashes on various driver installs (random, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't), locks up on boot, then after physical restart, crashes on Automatic Repair before being able to start back up normally.
    - After installing Hyper-V, system crashes, crashes on automatic repair, then is AOK...until it randomly crashes
    What I've Tried:
    - Switching between Integrated/Discrete/Optimus graphics doesn't seem to have made any difference.
    - Disabling VT-d seems to have helped with issues booting, but alas, no big fixes
    - Updated BIOS to 1.38, and 1.39 - both made no difference, still at 1.39.
    - Event log reports kernal power loss and various bugcheck errors but unable to find anything referencing the code provided, nor is there any surefire reported dll or driver which seems to be sticking out.
    - I have attempted 3-4 installs from scratch without resolve.
Other then these issues, if its booted and doesn't crash, the o/s is quite peppy (faster then w7 by a fair degree) and the UltraNav touchpad works quite well with navigating Metro and various Charms.
Have a Mini Series 3 dock which works well (although it has its issues i'll post up elsewhere) and switches between docked and normal usage with ease.
I have since reverted back to Windows 7 until I can find something promising to work with as the lack of support resources is understandably limited at this point.
I cannot develop for Windows 8 or Windows Phone 8 without upgrading or buying a new system. I've been quite happy with my W520 but this is just frustrating and would rather not move to another mftr if I don't have to.
    My question:
    >>> Has anyone successfully installed and run Windows 8 Pro without issue?
    >>> If so, can you please provide me with what releases/versions of the drivers you are running and what BIOS version you are running.
Any suggestions or sources would be immensely helpful in my quest to get W8 somewhat usable on this beast.
    Thanks in advance!

    BSOD on resume:
Happened to a W530 with Crucial m4 mSATA SSD. It turned out that it would happen if the drive is password-protected. After removing the password in BIOS Setup, there's no more BSOD on resume.
So, thusfar, no BSODs on resume. I still have to install the rest of the drivers but at this point, no BSOD since fresh install early this morning. I only have the single Intel 320 SSD in my SATA bay, no mSata drive as of yet. Additionally, I do not have a HDD password. I use the BIOS password w/ fingerprint authentication though.
Post-install, Windows had installed whatever drivers it felt were necessary. After that finished, I had installed Lenovo System Update and went through its update procedure. I elected to install all but:
    - ThinkVantage Active Protection (I have SSD, not necessary)
    - Audio Driver for Windows 832/864 (Sound works, reports as High Definition Audio Device - I am investigating option for Dolby driver as I had setup in Windows 7 as per W520 Sound Enhancement thread)
    - Ricoh Media Card Reader Device (only used a handful of times in the past, will find some cards to test)
    Outstanding issues:
    - Device Manager reports two non-install devices (Base System Device and Unknown Device).
      - Base System Device hardware ID is: NTPNP_PC <-- I don't know what this is, any ideas?
      - Unknown Device hardware ID is: ACPI/LEN   <-- I assume intel chipset since I had already installed Power Management driver via System Update?
    - Update other Windows standard drivers to Lenovo Windows 8 releases
    - Update NVidia Drivers to latest release/verde (maybe depending on video performance)
    - Setup Fingerprint software in Windows 8 to match that of the BIOS as right now, no fingerprint auth in Win8
    - Install Development software, Hyper-v once I have everything else settled
    - Anything else I'm forgetting?
Without jumping the gun, it seems as installing using UEFI fixed a few critical reliability problems (VT-d, boot, etc.). Try that if you're having severe stability issues.

  • Unable to Resolve Windows Update Issue in Windows 8.1

    Hello,
I recently, as far back as 1 month ago, began experiencing issues with the update service under the Windows 8.1 OS platform.
I found that I was having to repeatedly run the Windows Update Troubleshooting Tool. This appeared to fix the issue with each run of the tool, but eventually I'd have the same problem receiving updates again. My problem is as follows:
    1. Windows Update service hangs during register analysis.
    2. Unable to reset (stop or restart) wuauserv.

    5. Unit recently, was unable to connect to internet from Desktop GUI, but was able to connect using Metro GUI.
I'm not sure is there was a recent update that caused this issue, but I can no longer download updates for my system, nor can I successfully run the Windows Update Fixit tool.

    Hi,
    Let's confirm these situations:
Now your desktop Internet Explorer can't connect Internet.
You receiving the same updates again and again.
If I am right, please check that update's installation status from update history.
Then refer to this article to troubleshoot:

No. You have no alternative but to plug it into a computer running iTunes and restore it.

  • Windows Firewall issue, Inbound rule opend all, still not the same as turning off

This is Windows Firewall issue on Windows 8.1 Pro.
Backup Exec server cannot expand a computer node in selection list. I drill down to Microsoft Windows Network/Domain/Computers, then when I tried to expand a Windows 8.1 Pro computer node, it hangs out.
I narrowed this problem to Windows firewall related issue on Windows 8.1 Pro computer.
When I turn off Windows Firewall on Domain profile, Backup Exec Selection expands the computer node of the Windows 8.1 Pro computer. So, I created an inbound rule opening all to BAckup Exec server as following, but it's still not the same as turning off
    Windows firewall specifically on Windows 8.1 Pro computer;
Any Local IP address, Any Remote IP address, Any port, Any protocol, All Interface, All Programs and Services, All profiles(Domain, Private, Public)
And there are no rules blocking any which may override the above rule.
Ethernet on Windows 8.1 Pro computer shows profile is linked with Domain, but just to make it work, I selected all profiles.
Even though I opened all available in inbound rule, it's still not the same as turning off windows firewall. Why am I missing?

It looks as something related to RPC(UDP 135), but even when inbound rule is all open, why it matters? RPC seems working fine only when firewall is turned off on domain profile.
    Protocol 17 is UDP
    Port: 135

  • How can I connect to windows vpn

    Hello,
I am trying to connect to a Windows VPN through my macbook air running Lion. Anyone know how?

I was struggling with this for a few days as well!  Finally got it working though ! YAY !
    Here are the steps:
    1. Add this to your registry:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\PolicyAgent]
    "AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule"=dword:00000002
    2. Open secpol.msc (click start > search for secpol.msc)
    - Local Policies > Security Options
    - Network Security : LAN Manager Auth Level…
    - Set to: Send LM & NTLMv2 - UseNTLMv2…
    And
    - Network Security : Minimum session security… clients
    - uncheck "Require 128-bit encryption"
    3. Restart PC
    4. Create VPN Connection on Windows 7
    - Host Name: (server IP or yourhost.name.com)
    - PPP Settings : Enable LCP (only)
    - Type: L2TP/IPSec
    - Pre-shared key : yoursharedsecret
    - Data encryption : Optional encryption
    - Allow CHAO and CHAPv2
    5. Router on server-side must allow VPN Passthrough and forward ports: 50, 51, 500, 548, 1701, 1723, 4500 to the server box. Also, do not filter anonymous internet requests, multicast or NAT Redirection but enable SPI Firewall.
...now you should be good to go
