Windows won't open in Finder & Drop-down Menu bar items won't highlight

*In the past several months I've had this problem several times--*
Most often it is that when I double-click on a window (say my *HARD DRIVE*) it simply doesn't open. I try to open the TRASH-- same thing. Since this is generally happening when all windows are closed; I can't try other things-- other than those that are on the desktop.
If I try to "relaunch" the finder, (cmd-opt-esc and then check finder, RELAUNCH) that doesn't generally help. If I do from 2 to 4 restarts, generally (this time it took 4) I'm back to normal. I generally repair permissions during these start-ups, but that never seems to help immediately.
About 1 in 4 times this above anomaly is accompanied by the dropdown items in each FINDER (or other program - all programs affected) menubar not being highlighted. For example, in the Finder if I would click on a file and then go to the menubar "FILE" and go down to GET INFO -- as I am going from the top to the bottom, the blue highlights for each item are NOT HIGHLIGHTED. However, I can generally go to the item I want and click on it and it will activate.
VERY DISTURBING as the first year with TIGER I never had this problem, but in the past 2-4 months, at least 2-3 times/month. (I generally use my Mac about 4 hours / day, 4-5 days/week or more).
I'm concerned that one day I'll do 50 restarts and still the Mac won't come back to "normal". Any ideas and especially if someone has faced this problem.
I do use a wireless *LOGITECH MX Laser Mouse* which is great-- but I have noticed that sometimes it gets things messed-up, especially the scroll wheel with DragThing and Eudora eMail. I have tried but never kept the Logitech control center software as this causes other problems. (This is supposed to be upgraded for LEOPARD so I will try once I upgrade my MacBook). For the moment I'm back to a standard wired, 2-button mouse with scrollwheel in case the Logitech is causing the problems.

Just in case it has a bearing on the problem, you have performed regular maintenance on the drive recently? By this I mean repairing the disk, repairing permissions, purging caches, running the maintenance scripts, verifying preference files.
If not, you can use a number of freeware/shareware utilities such as [Onyx|http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html], [Tiger Cache Cleaner|http://www.northernsoftworks.com/leopardcachecleaner.html], [Cocktail|http://www.maintain.se/cocktail/index.php], etc. Or you can install [Applejack|http://applejack.sourceforge.net> and do most of these tasks in Single User mode.
Also, have you tried starting in [Safe Boot Mode|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107392] just to clear things up (note that you won't be able to use the Mac fully while in Safe Mode, but cycling thru this mode can clear some problems)?

Can't get the default spry drop down menu bar ??

Every time I create a new drop down menu bar it comes up with one that has the same properties as the last one I created. And I can't fix that last one. I'd like to start over but DW won't let me. Help?

If you are trying to insert a new menu bar with different properties than the last, for instance when you want to start over with a fresh styling approach, remember that the menubar css file will apply to all menus in the site, unless you distinguish the menus with an id on the containing element (div).
Go ahead and delete the old css file from the SpryAssets folder, if you want to start over. When you insert the new menubar, a new css file will also be installed.
You might find it useful to keep on hand (in a separate folder, out of the site folder) a 'clean' and new menubar css file, for use troubleshooting (by comparing the original with your edited version) or for copying into the site in this kind of situation. But if all you want is a new original copy, just following my suggestion above will work.

Places drop-down menu bar not working

I recently imported my iPhoto library to Aperture. All my geotags are intact as far as I can tell. All seems to be working well with the exception of the drop-down menu bar at the top of Places. It tells me the number of countries, states/provinces, cities, and places, but when I click on any of them, no drop-down happens. The only thing that works is clicking on the home button. Any advice??

Mail can not open, blocked by drop down menu

Mail will not open. Drop down menu says: To view this page you need to log in to area "www.outlookmail.com" on www.outlookmail.com:443 Then it asks for my name and password.
I click cancel and the drop down exits and reappears. Do I have a virus? Now what?

Double horizontal spry drop down menu bar problems

I'm new to the spry tools and I need a little help. This is what I'm trying to accomplish in Dreamweaver CS4:
I need 2 horizontal spry menu bars for navigation. I have created a div for each spry tool, 1 div placed above the other and they cross the entire width of the page. I have created the spry menu bars. Everything seems to be working correctly in both menu bars, That is until you open the IE browser, all other browsers tested fine. The problem is that when you hover over the bottom menu bar in IE, the drop down menu does not drop all the way down. The first submenu of the drop down menu covers the main menu bar. I have tried to change the css for the spry menu bar at the ul.MenuBarHorizontal li.MenuBarItemIE to show the display: as inline and also tried block and niether had any effect. Someone please help. Thanks.

How to Make a Non-Spry Drop Down Menu Bar?

In Dreamweaver CS6, I'm building a Fluid Grid website. I'm trying to make a simple menu bar with 2 submenu items and 2 subsubmenu items. I was using Spry but found out that Spry is dead. So what do I use instead?

First of all, if you are in a hurry, Project VII's Pop Menu Magic 3 is a great choice. Since it's a Dreamweaver plugin, making navigation is a snap. Just click on the PMM icon and start making.
One does not need CSS3 for a drop-down menu structure—the necessary requirement to talk to a web browser is in CSS2. Also you do not need to load your website with jQuery—though I don't want to come across as "anti-jQuery."
Here is a link to a complete tutorial on pure CSS drop-down navigation. There are dozens of others.
The real secret is using position:relative, then position:absolute for the drop-down and hiding it by positioning it off-screen when not in use. This tutorial also uses some CSS3 for tablets and cell phones, though it is not required for desktops.
You can take this a step further by hiding the entire navigation structure (and then revealing it) for cell phones with this tutorial. This will allow you to construct navigation for your website so that it will work for all devices.
Please note, no jQuery is necessary in either of these tutorials.

How do I delete Bluetooth devices that only show up from the drop down menu bar, and not in the Bluetooth preferences devices?

I recently attempted, and failed, to pair/link/use my Playstation 3 Controller with my 13" Macbook Pro Retina (OS X Yosemite 10.10.1), and now I've been left with three unwanted 'devices' in my Bluetooth's menu bar, that don't show up in the Bluetooth's preferences devices, so I am unable to delete them from there.
The devices in question are labelled as "00-00-00-00-68-2f", "00-00-00-00-68-7f", and "00-00-00-00-68-ef".
I've read that resetting the PS3 Controller will remove these, but every attempt at that has failed as much as trying to use the Controller for gaming.
Any help with this little issue will be much appreciated, as I've found it very annoying.

Firefox help drop down menu disabled

I'm running Firefox 26, as far as I can tell. When I try to open the Help drop down menu with my mouse or Alt-H, nothing happens. The Help menu doesn't drop down.
I scanned for Malware, but found nothing.

Unable to view drop down menu

Apple support was just able to break the code on my inability to view the drop down menu bar using my mac mini. Here is the fix:
1. This will happen when using TVs instead of a computer monitor.
2. Go to the Systems Preference App, and open it.
3. Open the Display Icon under hardware.
4. Slide the underscan bar (in the direction of "more") to the right
5. Guess what appears at the top? The missing drop down menu.
Quick fix to a real frustrating problem. Thanks to Clint at Apple Support to know how to fix this in very little time.

1. Save the Data Model and exit from data model editor to Catalog.
2. Edit again the Data Model and now you should be able to view the parameters.
Because the Parameters were just created, are not loaded instantly so you need to save and edit again your data model.

The BBC is a drop-down menu item on my bookmarks toolbar. About 20% of the time, when I click on a news story, I get the link that's underneath, not the one on the drop-down menu. What the?

I don't understand why Firefox would take me to a link UNDERNEATH the link I clicked on in the drop-down menu. Items in the drop-down menu are supposed to be clickable. I'm tired of clicking on a BBC news story link only to be sent to the beanie babies page of Amazon.com.

Drop down menu in CSS

), I was able to reverse engineer it and figure out how it works
(obviously not a feat of genius, but I'm new at this). Anyway, I
got it working, made some changes to and and had a functioning
horizontal drop down menu bar to pop into my own site.
So I renamed everything, linked the .js to the HTML page in
the <head>, put the CSS into the attached style sheet, etc.
Everything was going great until I previewed it and realized that
the drop downs were happening behind the "bottom_half_wrapper"
elements rather than on top of them all.
So then I played with the z-index and put the nav bar on the
2nd level. No dice.
Also, you cannot scroll down the drop down menus without them
disappearing.
How should I be approaching this? I think that what is
especially hindering me is my lack of javascript knowledge. I am
under the gun at work and learning all of this on the fly. I have
attached the relevent code, but cannot publish the site since I am
at a large educational institution and do not have permission to
publish it to our server yet.

I don't think there is a correct answer to your questions, just opinions and options that all have a place in design decisions. Not all people will allow javascript or Flash content, so sticking with a CSS/html approach will help maximize the potential audience. But CSS/html-only solutions can end up lacking interesting functional/interactive elements. So the choice really comes down to using what works best to make the site performance what it needs to be.

Drop-down menu items appearing all over screen ?

So i have a JSP webpage accessed by about 20 people. It has some drop-down fields for doing a search. After the search, the screen gets all messed up (this happens randomly and is hard to reproduce). It basically takes a drop-down menu's items and places them randomly across the screen.
I am not sure what is causing this, but if you have any ideas or suggestions, I will appriciate it. I am not posting any code yet, cuz i'm not sure where the problem is, or what it is?

Multiple drop down menu items to populate the same separate text box. How can I do it?

In Acrobat Pro X, I've figured out how to create a drop down menu with items that will populate a separate text box, but how can I get multiple menu items to populate the same text box. For example. My drop down menu has three items cat, dog, mouse. I choose cat and it appears in my separate text box (hooray). Next, I choose 'dog' from the same menu. I would like it to appear in the same text box along with my previous selection 'cat.' Is this possible? I'm very new to Java Script, any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you
