Windows won't recognize Zen Micro

I hadn?t updated my Zen?s firmware for long time ago. Then came this ?Plays-for-Surefeature. I think the name won?t fit the bill at all. Suddenly, on the half way of the update, the software crashed and I HAD to restart my Zen since there wasn?t any progress for a very long time.
Now to the actual problem. When I connect my Zen to PC it says that Plays-for-Sure device has been recognized, but when I go ahead, both Windows Media Player and updated Winamp player (also supporting this feature), won?t recognize it. When I try to update the firmware again, it does the same thing: saying my player isn?t connected. I think I?m very disappointed with the updating thing. I have had this player only for a bit more than a year, so the warranty has also come to an end. Could anybody suggest me what could I do?

[size="4" color="#330000">Heres the thing. my zen micro was giving me troubles i.e it was pausing on the creative logo and never turned on .so i got the firmware update and it worked fine.[color="#ffff00">[color="#330000">Then i had to use windows media player because the creative media organizer doesnt recognize it and it is apparently an MTP media player. Then i tried updating the firmware again because it was freezing on the creative screen as before only this time because of the zen micro having the newest update the firmware installation doesnt recognize my zen[color="#330000"> an[color="#330000">d it [size="4" color="#330000">Says that windows media player has encountered an unknown error . This meant however that my zen now has NO firmware on it,the firmware update doesnt recognize it and it is not detectable by creative media organizer so i am unable to use it after paying ?40 for the dam thing

  • My PC won't recognize Zen Micro- please h

I have Windows 98 on an older PC, and am planning on buying a new computer later this year. I received the Zen Micro as a Xmas gift but am just now getting around to loading songs onto it (so my free service is expired). It's supposed to be Windows 98 compatible but the MediaSource won't recognize the player. I downloaded WMP series 9, and it will sometimes not recognize the Micro at all, sometimes recognize it but freeze up when I choose the device, sometimes freeze up when I try to open the Music folder within the Micro, and about in 20 attempts it will recognize the device perfectly and transfer mp3's (after having to be continuously rebooted). I have used my Zen Micro on other computers with Windows XP with no problems at all. Short of shelving my player for 6 mos until I get a new computer with XP or Longhorn, does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestion. Although I didn't download new drivers, after speaking with the motherboard manufacturer I went and bought an external powered USB dri've. This didn't really help, so I tried buying a new USB PCI card. Now it works perfectly. I guess there's a problem with my old USB port. Anyway, the tip indirectly solved my problem so thanks.

  • Windows won't recognize Nano connecting.

My genius friend decided to plug my iPod into his xbox 360, and now windows won't recognize my iPod Nano, and it won't turn on, and I don't know what to do.

Try reading my post "Is your IPOD very slow to connect and eject and it appears to lock-up?". I think it is on page 2 of this discussion forum now.
This worked for me and I've had emails from other people saying that this fixed their problem.

  • Windows won't recognize 2nd ipod

I have a 5th generation ipod which works perfect with windows and itunes. I purchased a Nano . I charged it up first then pluged it in the usb 2.0 port that I use with my other unit. Windows won't recognize it. I can not find it in My Computer. In the device manager it shows up under other devices with a yellow question mark.
It claims it needs a driver and of course when I try the cd no I get one of those can't install hardware. I am using the latest versions of both software products.
I did the 5 Rs and went through this site and the help documents and nothing works. I took it back to the Apple store and they said it was working perfect.
So... I went home tried again, even disable my antivirus/firewall and no dice. I then tried it on my lap top and it installed and works fine. Where I am right now is copying what I wanted on one computer to CD and then importing the files ( sans song names) .
I am baffled on this one. One unit works fine then the nano won't be recognized on the other. Suggestions?

  • WHY WON'T CREATIVE ZEN MICRO MEDIA EXPLORER RECOGNIZE MY ZEN MI

I am wanting to start transfering music over from my laptop to my zen micro.
I try go into Zen Micro Media Explorer and it says this: The device is not connected. Please connect your zen micro to the computer.
My zen micro is connected and it says "docked" on the screen.
When I connect it to my laptop with the usb cable it makes the connection sound and MTP Media screen pops up giving me 2 options: syncronise files to this device using Windows Media Player or to take no action. Shouldn't the micro media explorer option pop up here too?
    How can i solve this?

    No problem
It's better to direct folks to the link "problems with connecting using MTP firmware" in the FAQ post, which takes them here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net. This has the full set of help that has worked to-date with solving MTP problems.

  • Programs won't recognize Zen Mi

I've been looking around the forums and found nothing that worked or helped, so I decided to ask for help. My Zen is recognized by the computer and is recognized in the Device Manager under 'Windows Portable Devices' as an 'MTP Device' (Even then, it takes constant removing of the battery and plugging it in again so it'll be recognized, and even then it sometimes freezes). A window comes up asking what to do, using WMP or RealPlayer, but when those programs are opened they don't recognize the player. The firmware is 2.2.02, and the computer is a Dell with Windows XP Professional with SP2. Right now the only thing I have installed on the PC is updated drivers from the downloads.
Before I took my Zen Micro and installed the 2.2.02 firmware on it with my laptop, and installed the updated drivers from the Zen Micro downloads on creative.com, my player would not be recognized at all by the PC if I had the CD installed. It would be recognized by the PC though if I didn't install the CD, a bubble would pop up saying, 'New Hardware: Creative Zen Micro'. Also, before I updated the firmware and drivers on my laptop, I tried installing the CD on it and the laptop no longer recognized the Zen either.
I have also tried installing the <FONT color=#330000>Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2, <FONT color=#330000>Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update, and Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices from the download section, but the Web Update one said the Zen wasn't connected when it was, and the PC saw it was as well. I can't try anything else on my laptop now because my brother took it.
    <FONT color=#330000>
<FONT color=#330000>This is my third Zen, and I'm rather frustrated that every Zen Micro I've had had this problem. The reason I got this one and the previous one is because I bought a Creative Protection Plan after my first, but I'm not even going to bother with Creative if this just keeps happening. If any of you can help me I would be grateful.

Thanks a lot man! That worked wonderfully. It just takes one minute to fix the problem!

  • Computer won't recognize Zen V plu

The same thing happened about a month ago, the computer won't recognize my 2gb zen v plus.. Then I just reinstalled the programs, and everything was normal. It recharges my player normally, but I can't add any songs, videos, pictures etc. The player hasn't fallen down or anything. It's about 6 months old (bought in October. When I open My Computer, there isn't even a removable disc or sth. So, could anyone give me some advise?

When I purchased my Sleek Photo last spring, I had the exact same problem. My PC via Windows Update was up to date, and I knew it wasn't my hardware, USB drivers, etc. as I have another player (a Rio) that worked fine. I found this thread, and followed what the poster <EM>DM</EM> had said. This worked perfectly, make sure you follow the directions, and see if your PC is compatable with DM's fix. I hope this hel

  • Computer does not recognize Zen Micro O

Lets use this thread for anyone having problems getting their computers to recognize their zen. I will start with my issue first to get this thing going.
For the first four days my zen micro synced great (even after I upgraded the firmware to 2.00.2)! I installed the "notmad" third party application and my windows explorer zen icon immediatly disappeared (The zen micro explorer was still there but no longer saw my Zen). When I unsinstalled "notmad" because it was bombing on me, my computer would no longer recognize or sync my Zen (it works ok on my computer at work). Here is what I found.
A - The USB recognizes it. However, if you connect your Zen, go into the device manager of the computer (right mouse click my computer, select manage, select device manager) you will see a yellow exclamation over the driver. If you double click it, it will also give you some bogus error about driver not installed and could not find WPD package call your hardware vendor.
B - If you try to reinstall Windows Media Player 0, it will also fail to install. If you look at the install logs for it you will find that it says it cannot find the "WPD" Package and that one does not exist on the computer.
C - Someting (either creative or notmad) removed the WPD software (Windows Portable Devices) and I cannot figure out where to get it and how to reinstall it's Reinstall XP service pack 2, that would be a nightmare.
D - To me the main issue is that the Windows Portable Devices (WPD) software appears to be gone? Is this part of the creative install or windows? Is anyone else seeing the same thing?
D - Thoughts? It is driving me CRAZY!
    Tony

  • Windows won't recognize my iPod - USB device not recognized

This is really frustrating. So I got a 4gb iPod nano on Saturday, took it home, set it up and everything was going just fine, no worry's. About 4 hours later I went to adjust my songs and it would not come up in iTunes. A little pop-up box said that the "USB device not recognized - one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it." After owning my iPod for less than an afternoon, I now have an ipod that I can do nothing to including change the music, charge it, etc. It works normally otherwise, it just won't connect to my computer. I then plugged in my older 256mb usb stick, and the same message, it too does not get recognized by windows. So I then tried a brand new 1gb usb stick that I had and the same result, not recognized by windows. I updated my itunes to the latest one after purchasing my ipod (version 7.4.3.1) and have looked up everything that I can and tried everything I saw to try, but nothing, absolutely nothing, worked. However my usb mouse, usb joystick, and usb printer all still work, but my moniter that has four usb outlets on it causes the same message, if I plug in the cable that connects one usb on my computer to the four on my moniter, windows can not recognize it. When I look in my device manager at the "unknown device" under the usb controller list it says that there is not driver for it, however I know that the drivers are either on my computer or built into windows. Any help? Anybody have an idea about what to do? Is it something in my windows registry has changed because of the new itunes, etc.?

Now that I've had some sleep, I realise I didn't really provide information that may lead to some specific help. Here goes - when I first plugged in the ipod nano (8gb), It displayed the screen it was supposed to - I could see the lightning bolt through the battery icon and knew it was charging. The icon for the ipod also appeared in the left-hand listing in itunes (in the section that existed under Library, before the sections Store and Playlists). This section now does not appear (I can't remember the title of this section, but it might have been 'devices'). In fact, I'm pretty sure this problem started when I clicked on this icon - nothing happened and it disappeared - so did the display on the ipod, which is not just the apple. This means itunes has only Library, Store and Playlist in the left-hand colunm. While I accept that computers do not work on normal logic, this seems to me to indicate that the drivers are fine, the system is fine, my laptop is fine - its the ipod or the usb cord. This morning as I tried again, this time my laptop gave me the option to 'click on the balloon to solve the problem' - let me quote: "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognise it. Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognise it, replace the device". Come on folks - one of you will surely know how to fix this (short of me taking the ipod back to the store to get my money back).

  • Computer wont recognize Zen Micro...HE

I got my Zen Micro on 9/2/05..and im already having problems with it. When i first started using it the day that i got it it was working fine. After about 2 days it started freezing. Then yesterday my computer wouldnt recognize it. The confusing thing is that my zen will charge, but im not able to add any more songs to it. I've tried it on 2 different computers and i've also tried uninstalling then installing the software on both...this hasnt helped. please help.

Try the solutions on this page (look for "connection problems" if it doesn't go to the right place), which is linked from this board's FAQs (which you should have read before posting). That page also has a "What is firmware?" entry.Message Edited by RBBrittain on 09-26-2005 04:9 AM

  • Apple creates Drivers but WINDOWS won't recognize them and doesn't let me install W7

    Hi dear Mac users,
Boot Camp Assistant creates my drivers for me and I can place them either in a CD or a USB Disk.
I start W7 installation and it ask me for MAC drivers, even thought I browse drivers location W7 won't recognize them.
So i checked, most of the drivers are .exe, but W7 asks for the drivers long before the installation.
    (I have W7 Home Premium)
So either I'm really really dumb or there's something wrong,
    Thx for your help,
    Alessandro

Is it asking for Mac Boot Camp drivers OR  is it a generic Windows error asking for CD/DVD drivers?
If it's asking for CD/DVD drivers then it seems there is an issue with burning a W7 .iso, etc, images onto a disk on the Mac side. The W7 installer has the basic drivers already for everything so it can start up on any machine, for some reason that part of the iso gets buggered up when burning a disk. (or maybe gets corrupted when downloaded?). It seems to work best at x1 or x2 speeds and you may have to try other brands of disks. If you know anyone with a Windows machine you can try that.
Do a search for burning Windows 7 iso or something like that as there are quite a few post's about it.

  • Creative media player won't recognize zen mi

When I plug my Zen Micro into my computer Windows asks if I want to use WMP to manage it or do nothing. It doesn't give me the option of using the Creative Media Organizer. How do I get that to happen? It says it finds an MTP player and only gives me those two choices. I can't find any suggestions for how to solve this anywhere.
    ed

Only thing I could say is to import it all MTP style. Open up "My Computer" when you have your Micro plugged in. My Computer should take longer to open, and when it does, scroll down to the bottom of the window. Open up the Micro, then Media Files, then Music and drag and drop all your music into that window. That's the only thing I can think of...

  • Windows won't recognize ipod shuffle still !! Please Help

Ok, I just got this thing from a work awards website, you know your work gives you points and you can buy things with them? Anyway my wife has a 20gb ipod, pretty cool, so I figure I'll get the shuffle cause she won't let me near her ipod. I get it last week try to set it up and nothing it can't be recognized by the computer. So I think maybe it's not getting fully seated in the USB port and go buy a docing station today, come home hook it up, same problem, the darn computer doesn't recognize it, nothing. So I see that there is an on-line chat support tool, I think very cool they can help me. I enter my S/N and it says it was purchased like 4 months ago, no support for me. So now I'm very agravated, I just got this thing, but because the awards place bought it a while ago I'm out the 90-day support. I've done everything in the FAQ's it's charged, I've reset it a thousand times, I've tried to reload the shuffle but windows doesn't recognize it so I can't. What really makes me mad is the 20gb ipod works fine. I read in here that when you see amber and green isn't good? Thats all I see when I turn it on and touch any button. What does this mean? someone help me here, please... I'm going nuts

was having this problem among others. Found that I could see it in windows explorer but only as an additional disk but nothing in itunes. reformatted in windows, used updater then ejected from explorer. when fires up itunes and then reconnected ipod - it found it.

  • Computer says iPod is there, but iTunes and Windows won't recognize it

I've had a 60GB ipod photo for about 4 years and it has served me well. This morning the iPod froze in the middle of a song. I hit reset, and it came back blank - all the files were gone. When I got to work and hooked it up to my computer, iTunes and Windows can't recognize it, but I can find it in device manager - which means I couldn't do restore.
I hit reset a few more times, changed USB ports and, somewhat miraculously, the iPod came back, complete with all files. On the way home from work it happened again and I haven't been so lucky.
I forced it into disk mode and iTunes recognized it, but told me it was corrupt. I also received a computer sound card error - my sound card was busy, and an error stating that audio/video playback could be limited. I tried restore, but I received the unknown error. I'm using the latest version of iTunes and I'm all out of ideas.
Any suggestions or should I put this iPod to rest and save up to buy a new one?
    Thanks

The most likely problem is that the hard drive in the iPod is becoming unreliable. It may be experiencing sticktion, which is friction that makes the spinning platter stick and the motor cannot get it spinning. The iPod is regularly spinning the hard drive up, to cache songs into memory, and then spinning it down, to save power. If the drive was not able to spin up when commanded (in the middle of a song), the iPod would seem to lock up. Later, bumping the iPod may make the hard drive spin again, so it seems to work again, at least for a while.
If this the the problem, the only way to fix it would be to replace the hard drive inside.
You might try reformatting the iPod using Windows, if you can get it to appear in a My Computer or Windows Explorer window. Use a full format instead of a quick format. If that process competes successfully, run iTunes and try using Restore again to install and initialize the iPod's software.
If formatting does not compete successfully, it may be time for that new iPod.
You can do some experimenting on the old iPod, if you're into such things. I have successfully installed a compact flash card (through an adapter), inside a 4th gen iPod as a replacement for the hard drive. It is only 4GB at the moment, but CF cards up to 16GB are getting relatively cheap, so I might get one of those and start using by old broken 4G iPod again, +now with shock-resistant energy-saving flash-based storage+.
