Windows Won't Restart After PSE 8 Install

I have repeated the following three times now, same result each time. I installed PSE 8 on my Vista based system, everything completes OK and asks to restart. The low level stuff runs OK and the screen goes blank as Windows starts to load. But then it hangs. I waited over an hour once, just to make sure it was really hung, since Vista has never been know for lightning fast response.  When I force a restart it recommends the start up repair, since Windows would not start after a software install. It can't fix it and offers to roll back to previous restore point, which gets me back where I was, with no PSE. My machine is an HP, about 2 years old, pretty vanilla configuration (no hardware mods, MS Office, Trend Micro AV, few other utilies, no games or high end graphic stuff except video camera support stuff from Sony). Any thoughts? Paid $100 for the software and would really like to get to use it . . . .

Normally I would tell you to wait until the developer put out an update.  However, i just checked my OPlayer Lite, and it seems to work fine.  So it sounds like something in your OPlayer's data is a tad broken.
1. Make sure you have a valid backup.  iCloud backup is great. I also suggest making an unencrypted backup in iTunes.  Also, import all photos into your computer.
2. Go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings.
3. Set up iPhone as a new device, DO NOT sign into iCloud or restore from any backup. DO sign into iTunes.
4. Redownload OPlayer, test.  If it opens, then there was an issue with the OPlayer data, and your backups are pretty useless if you want this App.  If it doesn't work, then the issue with the iOS 8 Update.
5. If the issue is with the Data, then Sign into iCloud to sync contacts/calendars/notes/etc, sync photos/music/movies/books/apps from iTunes.  Also you can download apps.
6. If the issue seems to be with the update, then plug iPhone into iTunes and restore to factory.  Then set up as new again and download OPlayer, test.  Should work.  If it does, then restore your backup from iTunes or Erase and restore from iCloud.
7. If it doesn't work, contact the developer and AppleCare.  AppleCare will say its the developer's issue, but they can gather log files and have their Engineers take a peak, on the off chance there is something wonky with your iPhone or how its handling iOS 8.

  • Macbook pro won't restart after time machine install on new hard drive

I installed a new 500 GB HD on my 13-inch mid 2010 Macbook Pro (since the original crashed).  I successfully connected to the Disk Utility via the internet connection and started recovery from a recent Time Machine backup....but, the computer will not restart.  It's been stuck in the grey screen with the Apple logo and rotating status bar all night.  I shut it down and restarted, but it won't go past the grey screen state.  I can't find any answers on the Support Page.  Help. Any one else have this issue?  Should I have first installed the Lion OS X first and then restored from the Time Machine backup?
Also, wondering if all my programs (2011 ILife & IWork and Microsoft Office) will be reinstalled with the back up?  (I can't find my installation disks for ILife and IWork :-()

Time machine is easy to set up and theoreticaly recover from. There have been reports of problems when a different disk or computer is used.

For future reference you may wish to learn about and use cloning of the HDD. I use both CCC and SD to do this and consider it to be the most reliable way to back up and recover.

Ok. Nevermind. I guess I had to Force Quit/Relaunch Finder.

  • Mac won't restart after updating to OS X Mountain Lion

Mac won't restart after updating to OS X Mountain Lion. Please help?

Like what happens?  Is it just spinning?
If you've waited sufficiently long (say 10 minutes) you could just hit the power button which will do the trick.  A little more gentle would be to open a terminal window (if you can) and type 'sudo reboot' (without the quotes) and enter your password when it asks.  That will do it too.

  • MacBook Pro won't boot after trying to install 10.7.3 update. Start up stalls at Apple logo and spinning gear.

MacBook Pro won't boot after trying to install 10.7.3 update. Start up stalls at Apple logo and spinning gear. Computer won't even start in safe mode.

My daughter's MacBook Pro was doing exactly the same thing.  I don't know if it had anything to do with the latest update.  She called me about a week ago saying that her MacBook began running slower by the day .  She then called me Friday and told me that it wouldn't get past the gray screen and the gear just kept on spinning.  I did everything I could over the phone including Safe mode which it wouldn't go into and thought maybe it was the hard drive.  She took it to the Apple store.  Originally, they also thought it was the hard drive.  It ended up being a corrupted operating system (Lion).  Apple genius simply re-installed Lion and she's back up and running.  Good thing she backed up right before it crapped out.  She'll be restoring everything tonight.  Don't know if re-installing Lion will help your situation, but it did the trick for my daughter.

  • Won't restart after sleep

This is a common if infrequent issue, but my new MacBook Air running 10.9.2 won't restart after sleep. I've connected it to a Thunderbolt display, and after sleep all I get is a finger pointer on the display and nothing else. Only shutting down and restarting works.
I've seen this issue in other posts, but it's never affected me until I replaced my previous MacBook Air with a new one.
Has anyone got a resolution? It's very annoying with applications and files open on crashing.

  • IMac won't restart after installing OS X 10.6

All I get after installing Mac OSX 10.6 Lion, is a spinning wheel of death. What is going on that it won't restart properly?

Nevermind, I have found a work around. Have to start in "safe mode" then the Setup Assistant will launch properly and the Software Update also works properly.
    On to Lion & 10.8!
    Thanks for reading my post.

  • Windows won't start after downloading driver.

I recently installed an audio driver for my Lenovo Ideatab Lynx but after restarting the device, windows won't start up. It shows the lock screen but after unlocking, the screen stays blank and wont show the start menu. I think i accidentally installed the driver from the windows 8 page when i do have windows 8.1 on my device. Is this why this is happening and how can I fix it?

    Satellite P205-S6307
The only way it will start is in safe mode.
So you know how to get to the Advanced Boot Options menu using F8. Go there and choose Repair Your Computer.
When you reach the System Recovery Options menu, choose Startup Repair.
    I've tried several things..
If that doesn't fix the normal boot, tell us what you've already tried. There's no point in our repeating all those.

  • Window won't boot after factory restore

    Hi:
My notebook is Pavilion dv4 -1435dx, running Vista 64, before i did system restore, windows was running very slow after log on, won't be able to work on it at all.... so i decided to do a factory restore. I tried 4,5 times of factory restore,(but failed, stuck at startup repair). And last, finally have it completely restore. right after that, I did windows upate the first thing. After downloaded and installed of windows update, Windows need to restart.... and then it stuck at startup repair again.....now it won't logon to window......
    Please help!! Thank you.

    Hi
    1) Once unit is powered on keep tapping F2 run the test and check if all test passes. If any test fails you need to replace the part.
    2) If test passes you might need a set off recovery disc.
Order Recovery Discs for Windows 7, Vista, or XP
Let us know how it goes!

  • Powerbook won't restart after security update

I can not get my Powerbook G4 to restart after the latest security update. It acts like the hard drive is not there. What can I do?

The first thing to do would be to boot from the Install & Restore disc that came with your machine by:
    1. Inserting the disc, pressing the power button, and immediately after the startup chime, press and hold the C key until you see the spinning gear icon appear on the grey splash screen.
    2. After the machine has booted, pick your language, and when the Installer window appears, do not press Continue, but go to the Utilities menu in the menubar and open Disk Utility.
    3. In Disk Utility, choose your normal startup volume in the pane on the left and then click Repair Disk. If any errors show in the window, run Repair Disk again until you see 'The volume appears to be OK' in green.
    4. Quit Disk Utility, quit the installer and attempt to restart into your regular startup volume.
If that doesn't get you anywhere, you may need to re-install the OS from those disks.

  • Macbook won't restart after Safari 3.1 upgrade

I followed the prompts to install the Safari 3.1 update yesterday. Now my MacBook won't restart ... the spinning gear spins forever, even when I try to start in safe mode. (I was really patient, but after 7 hours it's probably not just checking directories.) Single-user mode boot also fails. How screwed am I? And I don't even use Safari!

It sounds like there is directory corruption. Might have been present before the Safari 3.1 upgrade. However, the upgrade, which updates the WebKit files, may have triggered the corruption.
Logical next step would be to Archive and Install the Operating System. If you have Disk Warrior, then I'd try that first - it's quite the marvel for fixing directory problems not recognized by Apple's Disk Utility. If you are not familiar with the Archive process, another suggestion would be to bring your machine to an Apple Store>Genius Bar, if there is one in your area, or to a certified Apple Tech.

  • Mac Book Pro won't restart after GPU Panic

I have a 2010 Mac Book Pro with a known issue of GPU Panics, especially following Mavericks installation.
Have been limping along with band aid solutions until I can get a new computer, but today, following a panic, the laptop won't restart.
I press the start button, get the usual startup sound, get gray screen with Apple logo, gray spinning pinwheel for about 2 minutes, and the screen goes totally black. Machine still seems to be on, makes quiet noise.
Any ideas on how I can get it to restart?

    Katharine,
since you currently have Mavericks installed, you can try this: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it reach the login screen now? (Your screen going totally black is probably due to the GPU problem.)
