i do get the following error message:
your inquiry at iTunes Store could not be completed. unkown mistake,
please try again later. error code (0x80090318)
please help, i realy do have no idea.
firewall is off, antivirus is off
thanks

I just fixed this problem last night. I hopped around a few threads here and found the answer but of course now I can't find it to give you the exact link. But I think I can walk you through it. You need to put your ipod into "Disk Mode". Plug it into the USB port, toggle hold on & off. Then press & hold center and top of the wheel at the same time for about 5 seconds. As soon as the apple appears, release and press the center and bottom of the wheel at the same time. When you see a check mark in the center of the screen release - that means you are in disk mode. When I did that suddenly iTunes recognized my ipod again (4 months later!!). I updated and everything was fine. I didn't even need to restore which is what I was trying to do. Good Luck!!

"Error writing to file C:/Program Files/QuickTime/QTSystems/QuickTimeCheck.ocx. Verify that you have access to that directory."
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

Delete the shortcut and make a new one. The 'real' application will probably be fine if you launch it from the Start/Programs menu.

  • Have Windows 7 and iTunes 10.7 but cannot get iTunes to launch.  No error codes when click "open" and never does.  Have uninstalled and re-installed several times.

Using Windows 7 and iTunes 10.7.  Cannot launch iTunes - click "Open" and get no error but program won't open. Have uninstalled and reinstalled several times.

Can you check something for me please?
Restart your PC. after the PC restarts, bring up your Task manager, and go to the "Processes" tab. Click "Image name" to sort the processes alphabetically.
    Now try to launch iTunes.
Does an itunes.exe process appear? If so, does it vanish after a second or so, or does it persist in the Processes tab (even though iTunes itself never shows up)?

  • I just factory restored my iPod 5 touch and when I plug it into iTunes to restore the back up I made, iTunes becomes unresponsive and closes. But when I unplug the iPod, it starts working again. Using Windows 8 and iTunes is updated, please help.

I just factory restored my iPod 5 touch and when I plug it into iTunes to back it up, iTunes stops responding and closes. This only occurs when the iPod is plugged in, when it isn't, iTunes works fine. I am using Windows 8 and iTunes is updated (as of this posting). Any suggestions on getting around this? Thank you.

Also, when I put it through the Windows diagnostic, it lists an "incompatible program" WHILE my iPod is plugged in.

  • Newly installed Windows XP and iTunes on old PC, pls help.

I had to reinstall Windows XP and iTunes on my old PC. Will I lose everything once I connect my ipod 30g? If so, what can I do to prevent it?
And if possible, can I transfer songs from my ipod to the newly installed iTunes?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.
