Windows XP and Oracle Mgmt Services 9.2

I'm running Windows XP without Service Pack 1a installed. When trying to install Enterprise Mgmt Services 9.2, I get a vague message stating "The system does not meet the following requirement for installing Oracle91 Client. The system requires Service Pack 1 or higher." I didn't see any notes for this in the compatibility matrix.
Does anyone know if they are referring to XP - or is there another piece of software needed. Supposedly, Microsoft wasn't going to include any application support in their service packs. I didn't see any specific oracle fixes in SP1a for XP. When I did install XP SP1a, it disabled the USB ports on my system and I had to back out. I just want to be sure that I know what Oracle is asking me to install.
Thanks
Chad

Reply - see http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/forms/index.html - you need to have patch 13 to be supported on XP.
note also , there have been some issues with installing on P4 machines. But there is a patch(or new install) for this.

  • Date Formats in Oracle Applications Forms and Oracle Self Service

Can someone tell me what determines the Date format that appears on Oracle Applications Forms and Oracle Self Service ?
*1.* In Oracle HRMS,all dates i see on the Forms are of the Format "MM/DD/YYYY" but my NLS Parameters are not in this format .I'm giving the results for the NLS parameters below.I thought the date formats are determined by the NLS format. Is there something else that determines the date format appearing on Oracle Applications Forms ?
    NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS
    NLS_DATE_FORMAT     :DD-MON-RR
    NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE     :AMERICAN

*2* What about the profile option : ICX_DATE_FORMAT_MASK ? Does it determine the Date Format for Self Service alone or does it impact the date format appearing on Oracle Applications Forms and the actual database also ?
*3* If I use a to_date function in ,say, a pl/sql function that i code for some custom requirements, what will be the output of the date format ? Does it take the format given in NLS paramaters or is it determined by anything else?
    Thanks in advance...

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply ,but I'm still confused ..
Here are the profile options I'm seeing for one of my instance :
ICX: Date format mask - 12/31/1999
ICX: Date language - American English
    ICX: Language - American English
    ICX: NLS Sort - BINARY
    ICX: Territory - United States
    ICX: Numeric characters - NULL
NLS parameters are given in my original email.
In Self Service applications(OAF) ,the date format is appearing in "mm/dd/yyyy" format but when i login to Forms based applications ,I see the date format as "dd-mon-yyyy".What determines this date format ?
How can i make the date format to always return one format everywhere ,be it Self Service (OAF) or Oracle Forms ?
I'm getting date format related errors for my code because of default date formats changing intermittently when i log into Self Service.I want to know if there is anyway to prevent this from happening?
    Thanks in advance.

    Please advice

    Hi amy2ki
I had the same problem and solved it.
It seems that this issue is related to security settings on ORACLE_HOME folder.
You must force Read&Execute rights on ORACLE_HOME folder for "Authenticated Users" and propagate them below.
    Check this note on :
    http://www.google.com/notebook/public/01335025009615452606/BDRwbSwoQnIbT6rQh
    Shortly, the steps are:
Oracle Client software requires that you give the Authenticated User
privilege to the Oracle Home by following these steps:
    1. Log on to Windows as a user with Administrator privileges.
    2. Launch Windows Explorer from the Start Menu and and navigate to the
    ORACLE_HOME folder. This is typically...
    - the "Ora92" folder under the "Oracle" folder
    (i.e. D:\Oracle\Ora92) in Oracle9iR2
    or
    - the "Client_1" folder under the "Oracle\product\10.1.0" folder
    (i.e. D:\Oracle\product\10.1.0\Client_1) in Oracle10gR1
    or
    - the "Db_1" folder under the "Oracle\product\10.1.0" folder
    (i.e. D:\Oracle\product\10.1.0\Db_1) in Oracle10gR1
    3. Right-click on the ORACLE_HOME folder and choose the "Properties" option
from the drop down list. A "Properties" window should appear.
    4. Click on the "Security" tab of the "Properties" window.
NOTE: If you are running Windows XP and do not have a "Security" tab
    please do the following:
    (a) Open "Folder Options" in your Control Panel.
    (b) Choose the "View" tab.
    (c) Under "Advanced Settings" uncheck the option "Use simple file
    sharing (Recommended)".
The "Security" tab should now be available.
    5. Click on "Authenticated Users" item in the "Name" list (on Windows XP
the "Name" list is called "Group or user names").
    6. Uncheck the "Read and Execute" box in the "Permissions" list under the
"Allow" column (on Windows XP the "Permissions" list is called
    "Permissions for Authenticated Users").
    7. Re-check the "Read and Execute" box under the "Allow" column (this is
    the box you just unchecked).
    8. Click the "Advanced" button and in the "Permission Entries" list make
sure you see the "Authenticated Users" listed there with:
    Permission = Read & Execute
Apply To = This folder, subfolders and files
If this is NOT the case, edit that line and make sure the "Apply onto"
drop-down box is set to "This folder, subfolders and files". This
should already be set properly but it is important that you verify this.
    9. Click the "Ok" button until you close out all of the security properties
windows. The cursor may present the hour glass for a few seconds as it
applies the permissions you just changed to all subfolders and files.
    10. You must REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER to assure that these changes have taken
effect. Failure to do this can prevent this procedure from working!
    11. Re-execute the application and it should now work.
NOTE: If the problem is still present after following steps 1-11 and
rebooting your computer in step 10 you should perform the following
two additional permissions settings at step 8 as described below.
This may be necessary due to permissions that have been configured
beyond the standard permissions setup when the OS was originally
    installed:
    12. If the problem is still present, go back through these same 11 steps
above, but when performing step 8 additionally check both boxes entitled
"Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child
objects. Include these with entries explicitly defined here."
    AND
"Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown
here that apply to child objects"
AND be sure to reboot in step 10.
Hope it helps, it worked perfectly for me.

Would be grateful if anybody can suggest a solution. Have not been able to find anything about this in SAP notes or SDN for Windows and Oracle 11.2 g
    Thanks
    T.K.

    Hi Tarek,
I hope you might have resolved this issue by now.
    Solution:
This issue seems that you have not given the correct path of the "Oracle Client" which will be 10.0G, rather giving the oracle software location of Oracle 11.2G. You need to download Oracle client 10G from marketplace from the same place where you have downloaded the master DVD installation media and provide this path.

  • Difference between "Workspaces" and "Oracle Content Services"?

I am little confused with Oracle Content Services and Workspaces in Oracle collabration Suite. Can anyone throw some light on this?

Oracle Content Services is an Enterprise Content Management System. It is also an infrastructure product over which other applications can be built. Workspaces is one such application that uses content services for managing documents etc.,. At the same time Workspaces also provides a single point of access to other forms of content such as discussions, groups , appointments etc.

    Hello,
When i try to install a SAP 4.6C system on Windows ORACLE 10.2.0.2 and Windows AMD_64 (x64).
I've got an error in the creation of the database (see below). The Centrale instance wae created successfully.
I've changed KERNEL CD to the 46DEXT2 (INSORA102_0.SAR) version and also applied OSS Note 976457 to update various Windows DLL .
The problem is when launching R3SETUP, it goes to subdirectory ZSAPORAICL like you can see.
Why ? Is there's an error on 46D Kernel CD ?
Do you have any idea ? Already had the same problem ?
    Thanks for your help

  • Trying to understand text encodings between windows clients and oracle DB

I am focusing on a "maybe bad configured" oracle windows xp client connecting into a well configured oracle db server (10g for example). Instead of just keep the correct client settings to make it work I would prefer to understand what is really doing the oracle client with all the posible bad configurations regarding encodings.
When the client executes something like "SELECT 'Col1', N'Col2' from dual" before sending the sql sentence into the server the sentence itself should be encoded.
But the way the sentence is encoded or the fact that some magic encoding transform occurs depends on the technology used (Java Thin, OCI, Oledb, etc..) and sometimes it depends on the windows setting "Languages for Non-unicode programs" and sometimes it depends on the client NLS_LANG setting on the registry. Or maybe thigs are simpler and I simply got confused... Here we could add that maybe some third party tool could do some other "helpfull" hidden magic encoding transformation to make it work and things become interesting
A second time when all this encoding stuff should be considered is when the results of the sentences are retrieved on the client.
At this point the client receives an byte stream from the server (that could be a VARCHAR column or a NVARCHAR column). Again depending on the technology used the client could be specting a utext, text (OCI) or a CHAR, NCHAR (in JAVA) or a SQL_C_WCHAR, SQL_C_CHAR (in OleDb), etc...
Well, I'm not sure at all about the first point. Is all the sentence encoded in the same way before sending it to the server (ie is sended as plain text) or before the client parses the sentence and it understand that is sending a SELECT statement that returns two cols (one varchar and the other nvarchar)? For example the N, the ' and the Col2 are sent using the same encoding?

  • Windows 2000 and Oracle 8i (8.1.6) In stall problem

    Hi,
I have installed oracle 8i on a windows 2000 server. I have problem configuring a client machine to access the oracle database using service names.
I configured the service name using net8 assistant. When I try to access the database it gives me a TNS:Protocol Adapter error.(ORa 12560).
I spoke to some dba and they said its windows 2000 problem.
I did not have problems configuring a service name from the same client machine to a oracle database installed on windows NT(service pack 5).
I am able to access the database on windows 2000 through sql plus/other oracle application after I configured a service name using TCP/IP protocol.
I also able to access oracle databases installed on other windows nT machine from the Windows 2000 server client apps.
    any suggestions ?
    Thanks

Oracle is a pain in the butt, I'm in the middle of trying to install it too.. I've not come across that error, but it'd take to long to list the other errors I've had too!!
Dya know what order the packages should be installed in??

  • Windows Vista and Oracle XE

I couldn't dare to install linux fedora on this laptop which has Windows Vista for a dual boot system because I read all negative things in google about the dual booting system of fedora and windows vista. Any suggestion and guidance would be one again would be very much appreciated.

now I can't run the oracle on this Windows Vista? What do you mean by that statement. It seems similar to the following conversation in a doctor's office
You: I felt fine this morning, but now I feel sick.
    Doctor: What is wrong?
    You: I feel sick
    Doctor: Can I help you?
You: Yes please. I feel sick.
Please explain what you mean by "you can't run oracle on this Windows Vista".
Perhaps you could provide some explanation or some symptoms or some details.
Perhaps you could display some error messages.
Perhaps you could cut and paste the output from the command line when you enter IPCONFIG /ALL
Perhaps you could copy.paste the contents of the LISTENER.ORA file

  • Windows 7 and Oracle Not Friends

I'm trying to connect to an instance of Oracle 10g Express running on a Linux server from Windows 7 on my laptop. Nothing fancy, just a working copy of SQLPlus and I can take it from there.
I've searched so many forums by now without finding a single working solution that I am convinced that Oracle and Microsoft are both too busy trying to take over the world to give people a way to work with both products. My questions are... will Oracle provide a solution or not - and if not, then what would be a good replacement for Oracle that DOES work with Windows 7? (I'm thinking Firebird)
    Edited by: user8755744 on Jan 9, 2010 8:53 AM

Thank you all for the quick responses and please forgive my frustrations... I'm sure you have all been there before... As it turns out I was able to fix my problem but I will post the solution for the benefit of others...
    DBMS Environment:
Oracle 10g Express running on Ubuntu Server
    Client Environment:
    Windows 7 Professional (64)
    OracleXEClient
    Problem:
Whenever I invoke SQLPlus Windows tells me the program stopped running. When I click on details I get an APPCRASH message.
Solution: (at least the one that worked for me)
I had to set the compatibility mode for SQLPlus.exe to Windows XP SP2 and check the "run as administrator" - but this didn't work either until I applied these settings to ALL users.
    Frustration:
Such a simple solution and yet I couldn't find it online even after hours of searching the docs and pages and pages of other people's unanswered Win7/Oracle frustrations on the forums. Oh well, job security I guess.

  • Windows 2012 routing and remote access service with same subnet

I have internal server IP range -192.168.1.0/24
Windows routing and remote access service  with vpn client IP -192.168.11../22
client side IP subnet is -192.168.1.0/24
So we wan routing \ NATING between  192.168.1.0/24 to 192.168.11.0/22 so if vpn user try to ping 192.168.11.5 it should internally forward all request to 192.168.1.5

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that VPN client and internal network has the same IP range -192.168.1.0/24. And you want to transfer internal network from IP address 192.168.1.0/24 to 192.168.11.0/22.
Agree with Charles David’s point of view. The easiest way to fix routing confusion would be to either change the VPN subnet or the VPN client subnet.
Or, if you configure Windows Server(RRAS) as VPN server, you may enable NAT to transfer internal IP address:
    1. Open RRAS, add NAT.
    2. New interface to NAT and configure it as public interface.
    3. Open Address Pool tab, add IP address range 192.168.11.0/22.
    4. Click Reservations, add reserved IP(192.168.11.0/22) and corresponding internal IP(192.168.1.0/24) one by one.
This would be a lot of workload. Besides, you may use 3rd party devices to transfer subnet IP addresses.
