Windows XP can't print to MacMini OSX 10.4.9 Tiger shared HP printer

Hello All,
I have a MacMini running OS X 10.4.9 with an HP Office Pro L7780 All-in-one installed via wireless. I can print from the Mini but I can not print from my Windows XP laptop. I do have sharing enabled, the printer is installed on the Windowx XP laptop, etc. everything looks fine.
When I try to print from the Windows laptop it thinks it's printer, but nothing happens on the actual printer. If I look at the print queue on the Mini I never see the print job in the 'active' window, but I do see the print job in the 'completed' window.
Any ideas? I'm stumped.
Oh and I did try resetting the printing system, I deleted and added the printer on the Mini and Windows XP a few times, I rebooted both machines.

On the XP laptop, try using a generic PostScript driver instead of the L7780 Windows driver. If there is no generic option, try using the HP LJ5000PS.

  • P1005 Windows 7 can't print from remote PC

    Very strange issue.
Windows 7 computers. All HP compaqs. Printer P1005. Driver just downloaded (version 20090918).
No problem to print from the host PC
From the remote PC. Windows 7 Pro with 3 local account.  After lot of issues I'm now able to print on using the administrator account. However the 2 others accounts can't print.  Everytime the print dialog should come on the screen Windows 7 report an error and application crash (even printing a test page).   In an application if I default another shared printer (deskjet 5940), the print dialog come on, then I select the P1005 in the dropdown and got the error again.  Deskjet have no issue on all accounts.
To install on the admin account I did the following:
       - deinstall the P1005
       - decompressed the install app on the HD
      - Add a printer, select a local printer on USB, and manual selection of the drivers. printed without problem (with printer connected locally)
     - added a printer, selected the network one, added it and printed without issue (yes I switch back the printer to be on the shared one)
I tried the same tricks on the others accounts but still crashing when printing
I tried to upgrade the 2 others account to Admin role, no luck same issue.
I have exhausted. sounds this printer is not very compatible with Windows 7.
PS. my windows xP remote PC is able to print through the Windows 7 host without issue.

If it is not wireless it is USB connected.  So you need to choose USB connected and let the program do it's thing.   Are you trying to share the printer from the desktop to the laptop?  If yes, just go to Add Printer and follow the instruction.  Make sure File and Print Sharing is enabled on the desktop.
Say thanks by clicking the Kudos Thumbs Up to the right in the post.

  • Stuck in Windows 7, can't get back to OSX

So I stupidly installed windows 7 64 BIT VERSION on my mac mini, which doesn't support it. Now I can't get back to OSX since none of the 64 bit drivers will install on my mac mini. I cant format the hard drive because windows wont even recognize the other partition as an operating system. I held down F1 while booting and the only operating system it displayed on the computer is windows 7. HELP ME GET BACK TO OSX SO I CAN DELETE THIS EVIL WINDOWS 7 PARTITION THAT HAS TRAPPED ME!
I tried holding down the "option" key while booting which normally lets you select which partition you want to boot to, but it didn't work. I'm using a dell keyboard, so I tried the alt, shift, control, and command keys. none of them worked as the "option" key.

You sound like you forget step #1: backup, in the Boot Camp PDF manual and FAQ.
You must have done something wrong when you installed and overlay the normally hidden small GPT and EFI partitions when you deleted the FAT/MSDOS BOOTCAMP partition that Boot Camp Assistant created.
Even unsupported systems can install and run Windows 7, usually though there is trouble booting on older Macs from the DVD.
+Update: you tried other methods to select OS+ after I wrote:
Holding ALT or OPTION is what brings up the system boot manager. Or I have never heard of an F1 (on my PC it is F10 but varies by motherboard).
And yes, you can install BOOTCAMP64 off the OS X DVD, but you have to copy to Windows folder and find the file in /Apple/Drivers rather than run the SETUP.exe at the top.
The evil is in not reading or following the book usually.

  • Windows Vista can't print to AirPort connected printer

I have a windows 7 notebook and 3 macs... I can print with all macs but with my windows notebook I'm having thouble.
I have already downloaded bonjour and the airport utility but my notebook is not even findind my time capsule. I've already tried everything but is not working. I can only conect to the wi-fi signal. Does anyone know what can I do to make my windows notebook find my time capsule with airport utilily?

    1. Make sure the printer is recognised by the base station.
    2. Select 'Add a new printer' in Windows
    3. Select 'Local Printer' in the dialog box (auto detect and install
    should be off), click next.
    4. Choose 'Create a new port' and "Standard TCP/IP Port'. Click next.
    5. For the printer IP address, enter the address of the base station 10.0.1.1. The port name will be filled automatically. Click next.
    6. For the device type, choose 'Hewlet Packard Jet Direct', then click Finish.
Choose your printer from the list and follow the rest of the prompts to install and configure the driver

  • Printing attached to windows workstation - can't print from mac

    Here is my setup:
I am trying to print to a Canon MF6500 printer attached via USB to a Windows XP Pro computer in a Windows 2003 SBS environment. I enabled Unix printing, set the printer up for sharing and installed the Mac driver on my computer. I went to "add printer," then "windows printing" and found the workstation with the target printer, however nothing was available to select.
I then added the printer to the server hoping that I could just share it from the server, but I got the same result - no printers to add.
So as a last ditch effort, I installed the 3rd party App DAVE. I opened the "Dave Printers List" and it actually found the printer, but I could not find the driver now. The Canon driver is in the list of drivers (as I can see it when searching for Bonjour/appletalk printers), but not there when searching for other printers. So I can add the printer, but I can only use a generic print driver.
Anyway, here is my question: How do I add the printer without using DAVE (if possible) with it's correct driver? If not possible, how do I add the printer using the correct driver with DAVE? Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!!
    Thanks

I have a new iMac with OS X V 10.4.10 - all software is up to date.
I have a HP OJ 7680 linked into my airport network through Bonjur. When I try to print, Word (and all other applications) tell me to select a printer, I select the HP OJ 7680 (designated as a Bonjur printer) and my iMac instantly tries to install the printer. After about 5 - 10 minutes the install fails.
Where can I get help on this? Doesn't apple offer any on-line or phone customer service?

  • Windows PC can only print one copy at a time

I've got a PC connected to a Mac printer via Bonjour. It works fine, except for this new quirk we discovered today... when attempting to print 30 copies of a PDF, only 1 copy would print. Any suggestions (other than hitting Print 30 times in a row)?

  • I can't print my PDF. HELP!

So I have the Adobe Reader X and I'm trying to print a PDF file. I have windows XP and I've tried setting the print options as print as image. What happens when I try to print is that the save window pops up and tells me to save it as a .tif file. I can't get into .tif files and so when I exit the save window I can't print! This is unsettling as I used to be able to do this, so I don't know if there was an update or something recently that messed up my settings or whatever, but all I know ius that this happens now with all PDF files, even the ones that I've previously printed.

Why not use File->Print? Print as image is most often used to print pdfs that won't print using the traditional print dialog box.

  • HP Laserjet 1020 connected to Airport Express - Can't Print from Windows XP

    Hi,
I have been using Airport Express for almost a year now, and it works fine with my old LaserJet 1200 connected to it, meaning that BOTH my ThinkPad(WinXP) and PowerBook(OSX 10.3) prints off the printer nicely. Last week I bought a LaserJet 1020 to replace the old printer. Now I can only print off my Mac, and not the ThinkPad.
    Here are some additional information:
    - Airport Express has been updated with latest updates.
    - Using newest printer driver available from the HP website.
    - New printer works when connected to ThinkPad via USB.
    - New printer works when connected to Airport Express and printing performed using my PowerBook.
Therefore, My conclusion is that Airport Express and Printer is working just fine, and that it's just my ThinkPad not being configured correctly. (Although at the back of my head I am guessing that just MAYBE it's the Airport Express not accepting a different printer)
This is what I did to install the printer from my ThinkPad to work with Airport Express (which is not working):
    1. Add a printer
    2. Local printer attached to computer (no auto detect)
    3. Selected existing TCP/IP port 10.0.1.1
    4. Selected my new printer driver
    5. Finish
I also tried a few things like:
    - Deleting the TCP/IP port and creating it again before installing the new printer again.
    - Off both airport express and printer and on again after about 10sec.Airport was on first, and after the LED turn green, printer was turned on and USB plugged into airport.
    - Restarting my ThinkPad.
I have tried everything that I can think of, and nothing worked... hence this posting to get professional help.

    Hi,
You might want to download and install bonjour for windows to your Thinkpad it is how I got my roomates XP laptop to print on AX.

  • Can't Print from Windows Vista Notebook to Printer installed in Mac Mini

I have a home network that is connected to the internet by DSL. My Printer Xerox Phaser 3115 is installed to the Mac Mini.
From my Vista Notebook, I can see the printer shared by my Macmini. However, I can't print coz the printer says "access denied". I installed this Bonjour for Windows in order to print but it says "No Bonjour Printers are available".
    Please help me! Thanks!

On Windows, after either method of setup, change the driver (on PC) to Apple Color LaserWriter. Apple print queues expect postscript as input.
If this is unsatisfactory, you can create a RAW queue on the Mac (only for sharing the printer, because it will have no driver associated):

  • Bonjour for Windows in Parallels stops printing in OSX

Since I installed Parallels a few weeks ago I had no need to print from Windows. Yesterday I had need so I installed the Apple Bonjour for Windows and the necessary print driver (Brother HL-1430) and was able to print from within Windows.
The issue I have is that I can no longer print from OS-X. In fact every time I try and print from whatever program the program quits unexpectedly. The same happens if I try using Page Setup.
I have tried all the solution offered on Apple's support web site but to no avail. Reinstalled drivers the lot. The printer shows up in About this Mac.
My printer is connected wirelessly via an Airport Express. This works fine for Parallels with Windows XP and for our two other Macs. It just does not work with my iMac in OSX and this is only since I installed Bonjour for Windows on this machine.
Can anyone help with a solution?

I already have an Epson Photo 900 attached via USB, besides the wireless Brother. As the print dialogue window is not appearing I don't get the chance to select either.

  • Can't print to a windows networked Gestetner printer

I can not print to a printer on a Windows server. I am connected to the server and can see other printers on Appletalk and Bonjour.
I can see the Gestetner Dsc535 multifunction printer unders "Windows Printing" in the printer set up utility.
I get as far as setting it up and selecting the driver I downloaded for the Gestetner Dsc535 but when I print all that comes out are pages of what looks like a Hex Dump?
I seem to be able to send some sort of data to the printer but it isn't printing.
I am connected to the network through my Airport Express and can print to the HP printers in the office network by IP, Appletalk and Bonjour.
I have read on the Gestetner web page that a Fiery set up might be needed. Can i use the Fiery driver that came with the OS?
At a complete loss here as is the Admin personal (all windows I a the only Macintosh)
    Help.
    Macbook-Intel 2 Ghz 1gig RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

What you call hex dump is likely postscript code. The printer has an optional postscript card - maybe you don't have that card. Manufacturers assume Mac users will buy the add-in card, so the driver downloads are always for the postscript version.
The printer is also HP-compatible (uses HPs PCL page language). You should be able to print using the generic driver "HP Laserjet 6 Series Gimp-Print," included in OS X.
