Windows XP connecting to Airport Express

Hello,
I recently bought an airport express and set it up to join an existing network within my house. I set the AE up using my powerbook G4 and it works perfectly. I can print to it, and stream my music to it. However, I also have a Windows (XP - SP2) box. For some reason I cannot see the AE when using the admin utility on windows. I can however print to it by setting up the ports and such manually. Both machines and the AE are in the same room so I'm sure it's not a range or interference thing, but I still can't see it in the admin or setup utility. I also have iTunes 5 and it doesn't see the AE either. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply, I found another thread that suggested the same. I disabled all Windows firewalls, and removed any bridged connections. The Airport utilities still can't see it. I have WEP enabled on my home network, but the Windows machine can connect to the Internet without any problems.
This is most likely a stupid question, but there isn't any way that my setting the AE up using my Mac has caused it to not be visible from a windows machine?

ITunes/Airport Utility Windows cannot connect to Airport Express

I really hope someone can help me with this since I have spent 2 days trying to get my new Airport Express to stream music with no luck yet.
I have a wireless network using Netgear WGR614 with WPA security settings. The AE has V6.3 firmware update and I used the Airport Admin 4.2 to set it up. I tried all the recommendations here and connected the AE to the router LAN port using ethernet cable and did a factory default reset. I then configured it to join my existing wireless network providing the WPA details.
That is when the problem starts. After successfully updating and rebooting the AE shows solid green LED. However, using Airport Admin to connect fails intermittently with error -6753 asking me to check my network settings even though they are fine. If I try a few more times, it connects and I am able to enter and modify settings. When doing another update, it again fails with error -6753, but a few retries later, it does go through. Note that all this time, the ethernet cable is still connected to the AE even though it is setup to connect to my wireless network.
Now, I unplug and relocate my AE near my stereo - it starts up fine and shows solid green light. My router "attached devices" page indicates that the device is connected with the DHCP ip address of 192.168.0.3. However, when I now try to use Airport Admin, it ALWAYS gives me the connection error -6753. The AE shows up in iTunes, but when I connect to it, it just hangs and after a minute or so, just gives up and goes back to the "Computer" speaker.
I tried to do a ping on the ip address, and it gives me "Request timed out". I thought maybe it is my laptop interfering so I did ensure that I turned off ALL firewalls, but the problem still remains.
So in short, AE seems to be joined and connected to my existing wireless network (green light), but neither Airport Admin nor iTunes nor ping utility can even communicate with it; and it seems to be due to the error -6753. I have tried pretty much every advise regarding connecting via wired etc. and nothing seems to work. This is not a wireless interference issue too, because the error also appears when connected via cable.

Thanks for the response. Here is an update:
I tried to connect to the AE from another windows laptop...and it worked. So it seems that it is only my laptop that cannot connect to the AE. The only difference is that I used my laptop to initially connect to the network created by the AE, and after that I could never get it to connect.
Interestingly, when I did manage to get into the AE and check its log, here is what I find...

The administrative access denied is pointing to my laptop, whereas the connection accepted was the other laptop from which everything works. So it seems that the AE is specifically not allowing my laptop to talk to it! Given that my AE is being connected in Client mode, there are no settings I can access to see why it has singled my laptop out.

First attempt at windows pc connecting to airport express

All pf my macs can connect to my airport express and use the internet. I am trying to connect an IBM thinkpad with windows XP to connect. The laptop cannot see the AX at all ( it does have an infared port) Help!

Ensure that you change the channel on the Airport Express from Automatic to a channel between 1 and 11.
Does the IBM Thinkpad have wireless capability? Infrared is for IR communication.
Ensure that the wireless switch on the IBM is in the ON position.

HP Laserjet 1020 connected to Airport Express - Can't Print from Windows XP

Hi,
I have been using Airport Express for almost a year now, and it works fine with my old LaserJet 1200 connected to it, meaning that BOTH my ThinkPad(WinXP) and PowerBook(OSX 10.3) prints off the printer nicely. Last week I bought a LaserJet 1020 to replace the old printer. Now I can only print off my Mac, and not the ThinkPad.
Here are some additional information:
- Airport Express has been updated with latest updates.
- Using newest printer driver available from the HP website.
- New printer works when connected to ThinkPad via USB.
- New printer works when connected to Airport Express and printing performed using my PowerBook.
Therefore, My conclusion is that Airport Express and Printer is working just fine, and that it's just my ThinkPad not being configured correctly. (Although at the back of my head I am guessing that just MAYBE it's the Airport Express not accepting a different printer)
This is what I did to install the printer from my ThinkPad to work with Airport Express (which is not working):
1. Add a printer
2. Local printer attached to computer (no auto detect)
3. Selected existing TCP/IP port 10.0.1.1
4. Selected my new printer driver
5. Finish
I also tried a few things like:
- Deleting the TCP/IP port and creating it again before installing the new printer again.
- Off both airport express and printer and on again after about 10sec.Airport was on first, and after the LED turn green, printer was turned on and USB plugged into airport.
- Restarting my ThinkPad.
I have tried everything that I can think of, and nothing worked... hence this posting to get professional help.

How to get windows 7 pc to access a printer connected to airport express

I have connected an airport express to my BT home hub and created a new Wi-Fi network. I have also connected a Canon MP550 series printer to the express which I can access to print from my macboon pro. However I am unable to print from my Windows 7 SP1 laptop even if I connect using the same Wi-Fi network. Have used Bonjour and it installs the printer but still cannot print from my Win7 laptop. Any suggestions why is it happening?

Why does my Windows 8.1 drop connection to AirPort Express?

Since Windows 8.1 my Wi-fi connection to AirPort Express does this drop out every 1-4 hours all day long. It suddenly says "Limited Connectivity". My workaround is to connect to another network (my gateway for instance) and then connect to the AirPort Express again. Full connection!
Issue: The connection will suddenly, and completely unprovoked, stop working for both internet and AirPlay over the Airport Express.
Setup: AirPort Express with newest firmware (checked 23-03-2014), wired cable connection to gateway: Thomson TG789vn driver version 10.4.0.O.
Connected Laptop: Asus N56VM with network adapter Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230 with newest driver: 15.10.5.1 ( driver date: 31-10-2013)
My laptop connects perfectly to all other networks and my airport express works well with my iphone, so i think it is a conflict between apple and microsoft. Please help me fix this issue.

Apple has not offered an update for Windows since June 2012. I think the message is clear.......Apple does not really care about Windows......but my opinion may be wrong.
Your best bet would be to contact Apple Support and ask them about possible updates for 8.1.

So am I correct in saying trying to utilise the Airport Express to access the printer over the network was a wasted effort due to the latest iOS? I had read up on the express before purchase and believed that was one of it's main purposes.

The USB port on the AirPort Express allow sharing a printer with Windows and Mac OS X, not with iOS:

Can't get itunes to connect to airport express via air tunes

Hi,
I just bought and installed an airport express (for windows 7) everything is now connected but i can't get itunes to recognize my airport express via air tunes. I can see the multiple speakers in itunes, but when i click on it to connect to airport it just comes up with connecting, loads for about a minute then minimizes without connecting.
Has anyone else experienced this? How can i get this to work?

You've probaby solved this by now, but if not... When upgrading itunes on a Vista or Windows 7 machine with Windows Firewall running for some reason Bonjour can't get through the firewall and thus Airplay does not work. Not good when all your Hi-fi's are connected via airport express!
I found to resolve the issue you have to install an older version of Bonjour. It won't work if you try to do this straight from Apple. So try this...
1. Firstly install and older version of itunes from the web (say version 10.1) Try www.oldapps.com
2. Then find the Bonjour file in program files
3. Cut and paste it to your desktop with its contents
4. Uninstall itunes and Bonjour via your control panel (the desktop file of Bonjour you moved will still be there).
5. Install your new version of itunes, say version 10.5, from the apple website.
6. Before opening it go to program files and cut the (newly installed) Bonjour file and paste it somewhere different to the desktop (you can't just delete it). It does not matter where you won't be needing it.
7. Now Cut and paste the old version of Bonjour you stuck on the desktop in Program files in place of the one you just moved.
8. Hey presto, Airplay, Windows firewall and your Airport Express' should all get on again.

Trying to connect to airport express with my new MacBook Air and iTunes. I just do not seem to be able to din the right way to do this. Also, I used to see a choice of speakers on my old machines in the lower right corner of the iTunes window while playing music. I do not seem to havethat anymore. Any ideas> Many thanks in advance!

Actually, I did manage now. I must have done something wrong previously. Follow instructions with this link http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/setup.html. What may not be so obvious is the icon in the bottom right of the iTunes screen. It's the rectangle with the up arrow. It may have been different previously but it works and if you follow the instructions you may well find it works as in my case. The only thing I did differently this time is to "enable ethernet for airtunes" at least I think that is what it was called. I did not think that was necessary as I am using the WiFi but clicked it anyway just in case.
For me a case of "Less haste ...more speed".. I am now listening to my music.

ITunes 11.1 won't connect to AirPort Express

I just updated iTunes to ver. 11.1.0.126 from the previous version of 11.0.5. Prior to this, everything worked fine, no issues ever with connecting to my airport express from iTunes. Now that I've updated to 11.1 I get the following message when selecting my AirPort express for streaming:
"An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay Device 'CasaWalck AirPort Express'. The network connection failed"
The AirPort express is a bit older... an 802.11g, running the latest version firmware 6.3 and it's still attatching to my AT&T Uverse wireless home network just fine. Went into the router admin to verify all is well, and it is.
At the end of the day, it seems to be the iTunes update that caused all of this. I should also add that with the iTunes update, I also installed iCoud (which I didn't have installed before) and the latest version of Quicktime.
I'm running
- Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 on an HP tower.
- AT&T Uverse wireles modem w/WPA2-PSK (AES) encryption
- Netgear WNA1100 USB WiFi modem
- Apple AirPort Express 802.11g w/firmware 6.3
Any help is greatly appreciated. I really want to get my streaming to work again!

Okay, I'm logging this for anyone who might be experiencing the same issue. I kept poking around my system until I found the solution myself.
In researching this issue, I kept coming across folks who found an issue involving their Mac systems. Since I have a Windows 7 platform that didn't do anything for me. Initially I started suspecting an IPv6 compatability issue between iTunes 11.1 and my old airport express. Found nothing fruitful there (including this so you don't waste your time chasing that down). The other common theme coming up with others was their firewall. I came across on thread in particular where if they disabled thier firewall, they got iTunes to connect to their airport express/airplay device again. However, they were stuck with a choice between this working and having firewall protection. I personally just couldn't operate without a firewall. So... I kept poking around and literally stumbled on the solution.
Windows 7:
Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall > Allow a Program or Feature Through Windows Firewall > Change Settings:
- click to highlight iTunes from the list
- click Remove
- click Allow Another Program...
- Select iTunes from the list and click Add
- Click OK so save your settings.
- Test your connection AirPlay/AirPort Express in iTunes. It should work
- Restart your machine and test to make sure it still works after a reboot. Mine did.
From what I can gather, the previous installation of iTunes logged some sort of profile or entry into the Windows firewall. Once iTunes upated to 11.1, it seems whatever worked for the 11.0.5 install was no longer compatable. By remiving and reinstalling this entry in the firewall, whatever was needed was refreshed and all is well with the world again.
For all the times this community has helped me out, I only hope I can return the favor.

IPad and iPhone 4 and new 5s drop connection with airport express. This just started recently after working fine for a year. PC does not drop. Wifi signal fine. Help?

Airport express connection to wifi appears to be fine. No dropping by windows PC. This just started recently after working fine for a year. Help?

Loss of connectivity to Airport Express

The network is one PC running Windows XP with two Airport expresses. When we connect to the airports, there's no problem and the signal is "Extremely Strong". After a minute or two, the computer loses all contact with the network and the Airtunes shuts off. When we reset, the network is "Extremely strong" and the same happens.
It sort of feels like a network interference problem. Is there a way to strengthen the signal with or without more hardware? Maybe an airport configuration? Also, It loses the connection even when the airport is a foot or two away from the airport.

Ensure that the Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network check box is not checked.

Connection to airport express dies out from iTunes after 1-3 hours

I have iTunes running in Windows XP. It is connected to zyxel WLAN AP through ethernet and Airport express is connected over wlan to this Zyxel. I have two problems where worse one is that after sometime 1-3 hours iTunes looses connection to airport express(remote speakers). Only way to return is to shut down power from AE. Then streaming can be started again. it seems that Internet connection is working all the time through zyxel, so this is not probably related to wlan itself
Other problem seems to be that Itunes can find AE only after reboot. I have opened firewall, so good ideas what is wrong in these two problems.

Yes, there's an exception for Bonjour in the firewall (Bonjour is allowed)
I've try to re-add the "APAgent" which control Airports and restart the firewall but it didn't worked...
The only solution I've found was to desactivate Windows firewall...
(Firewall of my ADSL box is activated).
Maybe I should try to repair iTunes Installation like WPLU...
