Windows XP Conversion Kit

Hi all
I have a new T61 with Windows Vista Ultimate.
I would like to downgrade to Windows XP. I got three CD's with the Notebook
1. Rescue and Recovery CD P/N 43R4481
2. Product Recovery CD for T61 .. P/N 44Y4003
3. Supplemental Product Recovery CD for T61 P/N 44Y4031
I thought these CD's would be the XP Conversion kit, but I'm not able to install it.
I used the RR cd and booted the system. I got the Rescue and Recovery application
but I couldn't find the option - as described in the conversion kit manual - "Full Restore".
What am I doing wrong, could anybody help me?
Thanks
Andrea

dontworry:
I actually tried last night again myself and was successful. The trick is to ignore the "Full Restore" comment and choose the System Restore option on the menue on the left. It should produce a window with three options: operating system and file restore from backup, operating system restore only and full hard-drive restore to factory stetting. The last one is the one you want. Let it go through the motions and follow the steps in the manual. They will work from here on out. With one important difference: it will not say that "the conversion process will begin in 20 seconds". It just sits there. I unfortunately thought it failed and hit cancel, which aborts the conversion process (as indicated in the manual). That left me with a blank hard-drive ..... After some other ill-fainted trials (and a phone call to Lenovo) did the exact same thing over again, but this time waited at this crutial step. And lo and behold, the process came back to life and properly installed Windows XP. Just the way they described in the manual (as if they knew what would happen ...). The whole process did take four hours, so bring some time.
Good luck.

  • Lenovo Microsoft Windows Conversion Kit

Have just purchased nine T500 thinkpads and am in the process of building the first one. The T500's have been shipped with Vista Business, so I'm trying to roll back to Win Xp Pro.
The laptops shipped with the Lenovo Microsoft Windows Conversion Kit - disks and writtend intstructions. Herein lies the problem..........
I've changed the boot order to relfect the ATAPI CD0 and have followed all the printed instructions up to step 12; " Remove the disc when prompted. Click OK and then restart your computer. You will then be prompted for a Supplemental Recovery Disk.
I do have another disk supplied which I guess is the supplemental recovery disk, however I keep getting the message to insert a disk called "final C".The screen then changes to a process screen where I can select the location of a file and then choose what to do with it. Inserting the second CD\DVD does nothing.
I've tried the disks in differeing order and it seems that the correct order is the rescue and recovery disk first then the Product Recovery Disk second. It doesn't work the other way around as I've tried!!!!
The instructions do not make any mention of this step or this message. Because of this I've spent almost the whole day trying to find a way around this without sucess.
I really need to get this sorted and roll back to XP - as a lot of our apps just won't work with Vista at present. I also don't have an install disk for a copy of Win XP. So this conversion kit is really my only option.
I would be really grateful if anyone could help me overcome this issue or at least point me in the right direction.
    TIA.

That's normally associated with recovering a system from a created image. Are you booting from the boot cd and then selecting to recover to factory installation?
Or, if you only have 2 discs, when you get the message for the supplemental cd click on No and then insert the other disc you have and click on OK.
    Hope this helps

  • Windows App Certification Kit - Test Fails for Validate Desktop App at "Write appropriate Add/Remove Program values"

    Hi,
I am trying to validate a .Net Framework 4 WinForms application for use in the Microsoft Partner Network portal.
I am using Windows App Certification Kit 3.4 for Windows 8.1 , and the Validate Desktop App option.
To build the package I am using InstallShield 2012 SPR Limited Edition (for Visual Studio), and the validation fails
only with the following error (please also see the attached image):
Clean reversible install test: Failed to Write appropriate Add/Remove Program values
Error Found: The registry population test detected the following error: app didn't create the required registry entries.
A non-optional value 'DisplayName' is missing or invalid (same for 'Publisher', 'ProductVersion')
Please note that I have filled in all the publisher/product details in the InstallShield project, on the General Information page.
Also I have tried to use the Microsoft Visual Studio Installer Project for VS2013, and the validation failed with the exact same error.
Any help would be very appreciated.
    Thank you.

You may need to add the necessary info to the app’s Windows Installer package so it can configure Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel correctly. Setting these properties automatically writes the corresponding values into the registry. From the picture,
you are missing some necessary information about your desktop app.
Also You need the correct admin permissions to write to the registry.

  • Windows App Certification Kit 3.4 error occurred while generating the report (the application will exit)

    Hi all,
I've encounter a pretty big issue while trying to check if everything with my windows phone 8.1 app is all right. After creating package (*.appx) I launched Windows App Certification Kit 3.4 to run it against all the test. Each time I try I get an error saying
"an error occurred while generating the report. the application will exit" and Certification tool just crushes
I looked online for some solutions but couldn't find any. Somebody knows what is going on and how to fix it ?
Can't insert images into post because of not verified account so imgur:

Try sending it to store anyway… I have the similar issue, the kit hangs when saving result and never complete it.

If you want to test your app, you can also send to beta store and you can get response from the testers.

  • Inconsistent results with Windows App Certification Kit

Hi, I asked about this issue before on a different forum but didn't get a response. Support pointed me towards this forum so I'm asking here as maybe the other forum wasn't the appropriate one. My company is attempting to renew our ms partnership, and we are
    trying to certify our desktop
app for windows 8. I have attached a screen shot below showing the registry entries that our app makes. When we try to test for certification (windows 8) we get the different (but similar) results on different systems using the exact same installation package.
Here is an example of the results we get:
    Results:
An optional value 'VersionMajor' is missing or invalid      for program Chiro8000.
An optional value 'VersionMinor' is missing or invalid      for program Chiro8000.
An optional value 'MajorVersion' is missing or invalid      for program Chiro8000.
An optional value 'MinorVersion' is missing or invalid      for program Chiro8000.
A non-optional value 'DisplayName' is missing or      invalid for program Chiro8000.
A non-optional value 'Publisher' is missing or invalid      for program Chiro8000.
A non-optional value 'ProductVersion' is missing or      invalid for program Chiro8000.
An optional value 'InstallLocation' is missing or      invalid for program Chiro8000.
Can anyone point us in the right direction?

    Hi,
Windows phone 8.1 App fails Windows App Certification Kit test (WACK Test).
It is producing below error in Debug configuration test,
The debug configuration test detected the following errors:
1)The binary Phone.Controls.dll is built in debug mode.
Impact if not fixed:  Windows Phone Store doesn’t allow a debug version of an app.
How to fix:  Please make sure the app isn't linking to any debug versions of a framework and it is built with the release configuration
And i got a solution like,
Universal Apps (And Silverlight 8.1 Apps) have a different certification requirement. You cannot publish assemblies built in debug mode.
You'll need to contact the NuGet authors of ICSharpCode and ImageTools and have them provide you with a version built in release mode.
How to proceed with this solution. I'm very help full if any solution provided.

    Hi ranjit,
    >>Actually my project in windows phone 7.1 and i upgraded it to windows phone 8.1
Okay, this may be due to the upgrading process, could you tell us what the detailed version of your Visual Studio is(for example: Visual Studio 2013 Update 4)?
You may need to create a new Windows Phone 8.1 Silverlight project and try to upload it to Store, if this problem can be resolved, I think this should be related to the upgrading process, you may need to start from scratch by recreating a WP8.1 SL project.
To exclude environment facts, I would also suggest you retesting it on a new machine with the latest IDE.

  • Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate with Update 4 Installation Hangs on "Windows Software Development Kit" step

    Hi,
I am attempting to install Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate with Update 4 on a Windows 2008 Server R2 machine that also has Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate already installed.
Unfortunately, the installation always hangs on the  "Windows Software Development Kit" step. I have let it run overnight and the installation process never gets past this step. I always have to just kill the process, and uninstall.
I have validated the checksum of the ISO, run the .exe as administrator, and also tried to install the software to both the C and D drive.
I have also tried to run the installation with all of the optional components checked as well as with none of the optional components checked.
In addition, I have uninstalled visual studio 2013 using the /uninstall /force command
I have examined the log files produced at C:\Users\MYNAME\AppData\Local\Temp and I dont see anything obviously wrong.

Does anyone have any ideas of why this is happening? Are there any specific log files I could provide to help pinpoint the problem?
    Thanks
    Thomas

    Hello Thomas,
"I have validated the checksum of the ISO" Do you mean you have used this page
    http://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/downloads/visual-studio-2013-iso-sha1-vs.aspx# to verify your ISO?
Please send your full logs to me by use  http://aka.ms/vscollect . After using it, you will find vslogs.cab from %temp% folder. Please upload the file to
    https://skydrive.live.com/
    and share the link here.
Actually you can refer to the following page to troubleshoot Windows SDK issue:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee248512(v=vs.100).aspx
The recommend way is to manually install Windows SDK itself and check the logs in detail.
    Best regards,
    Barry

  • I try to convert LAbview 2.2 VI to Labview 3.1 for MAc using the conversion Kit. Labview 3.1 mass compile cannot find several VI like "open file, open folder, wait(ms), al_config"e.t.c. How can I manage this problem?

It looks like Labview 3.1 has different names for these VI.

It has been a very long time since I worked with such an old version but version 3 was a major upgrade that made the MAC and Windows versions much more compatible. One of the changes was to make the VI names the same on both platforms and another was to make the locations the same (i.e. the name of the llb that the functions were stored in. You should be able to find the equivalent functions in 3.1. Open the app in 3.1 and when prompted to find a VI, browse around until you find it. If you have a list of the VIs that couldn't be found, before opening the old app, create a new VI. Use the palette to find the functions and place them on the diagram. Then, when you open the old VI, those functions with the same name will get replaced by the new ones. For ones w
hose name changed, you'll have to manually replace those one by one. I also seem to remember a compatibility llb that was available back then. It was a set of VIs that was not part of version 3. I have no clue as to whether it's still available from NI and whether it included everything you might need. The good news is that once you're past this conversion, upgrading becomes a lot easier.

Have you tried specifying which measure you want it to sum?
    e.g.
    CASE WHEN ISLEVEL(Entity.CurrentMember, 0) THEN
Last Shipped (PU) x Part Volume
    ELSE
    SUM(Children(Entity.CurrentMember), [Measure].[Part Volume])
    END
also I'm not sure whether the SUM is correct. This might work as it definately specifies the tuples:
    SUM({Products.CurrentMember.children},[Measures].[Part Volume])

You could try to run it in compatibility mode/ XP emulation. Beyond that I don't think youz will have much luck. It's simply too old and even if it would run, the compatibility issues with your system's drivers and security mechanisms will get on your nerves...

  • More Windows - Mac Conversion questions

    1) I currently use DVD X Copy Platinum to backup my DVD movies. Is there a similar program out there for Macs?
    2) I currently use CCleaner to help clear the junk that can accumulate on Windows systems. Is this even necessary for Macs and if so, what do you use to accomplish this?
    3) I don't use Adobe Photoshop too often so I didn't want to pay for the Mac version again. Anything that's similar and cheaper? (or even free )
    Thanks for all the help!

    1) I currently use DVD X Copy Platinum to backup my DVD movies. Is there a similar program out there for Macs?
There aren't currently any packages sold legally in the US, if that's where you are, that can copy commercial (i.e. copy-protected) DVDs. Flip4Mac is working on a package called Drive-In that will legally copy copy-protected DVDs so a Mac. If you're outside of the US where backing up copy-protected DVDs is legal, just do a web search for "Mac OS X DVD Rip" and you should find a lot of information.
    2) I currently use CCleaner to help clear the junk that can accumulate on Windows systems. Is this even necessary for MacS
It's not necessary since there's no registry in Mac OS X as there is in Windows (the Windows registry is primarily what CCleaner works on).
    3) I don't use Adobe Photoshop too often so I didn't want to pay for the Mac version again. Anything that's similar and cheaper? (or even free )
There's Gimp, if you don't mind running X11.

  • [Windows] Video conversion for iPod Touch on 2.0

I have recently purchased an iPod Touch 16Gb - cost £242 -, on software version 1.1.4. Immediately installing the latest iTunes (7.7.1.11) with Quicktime (7.5 Build 861), I upgraded the Software version to 2.0. Cost £6.99
Then I went to transfer videos I had on my Nano to my new Touch, and gave me the error:
"Some of the songs or videos in your iTunes library, including "xxxxxxx", were not copied to the iPod "xxxxxxxx iPod" because they cannot be played on this iPod."
So I did some googling and saw that Quicktime could be upgraded to Pro to transcode videos for the iPod. So £24.99 later, tried to save the videos and got the same error. I'm a bit miffed now.
More googling and got the Jodix Ipod converter download - free. Converted into a format Quicktime recognises, added into iTunes and still gives the same error.
So I have paid nearly £280 (est. $500) for hardware / software which wont do the job its built for... Any Questions?

Strangely enough, I have managed to get my videos working. The solution to the problem at the mo is to use low-quality videos. I encoded my videos at 1500kbps, after transcoding them down to 700kbps they seem to run fine and no further converting in iTunes needed. Interesting, seems Apple don't want us putting our own videos on at a HD watchable bit rate - nice.
