Windows XP Crashed - will I keep my songs?

I hope you can help. Our Windows XP crashed and it was reinstalled by the computer doctor. If I re-load ITunes and plug in my IPOD, will all of my songs come back or have I lost everything?

The content won't be transferred automatically, but you won't lose them if you're careful. Check out this post from Zevoneer for some iPod media recovery options:

This is why it's strongly recommended, even by iTunes itself, that you make backups of your content, in case of just such problems like this. I highly encourage you to make a backup of your iTunes library once you get everything transferred back from your iPod. If you have an external hard drive, backing up is easy. An iPod is not a reliable backup.
Regards.

No.  Your iPod is designed to sync with one computer/iTunes library at a time. If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, the contents currently on the iPod will be erased and replaced with content from the new library.  So you'll want to copy what is currently on the iPod over to your new iTunes library first before syncing it.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • If I restore my iPod will I keep my songs?

I am planning on restoring my iPod touch 5g and I want to know if I can keep my songs. I did NOT buy these songs off of iTunes!

If you restore your device, you will lose everything you have stored on it, so you should make a backup. Also, in order to keep your songs, they should be stored in a PC or Mac with iTunes so, after restoring, you will be able to get them back to your device. If you haven't got the songs in iTunes in a PC or Mac, you can use different applications to do it. Read > https://discussions.apple.com/message/11319208#11319208

  • My Windows Computer Crashed, Can I save the songs on my iPod?

My Windows computer just crashed and all info is lost, so I just bought a new Mac to replace it. Is there any way for me to transfer the songs that are currently on my iPod to my new Mac?

I've had to do this a few times, and what has worked for me is to find a program that shows hidden files. I use a Mac (G3 iBook), so my program of choice is called TinkerTool (there's a free trial version available). Whatever you choose, you can probably find a free version of software that will allow you to view hidden files.
In any case, I don't know if this will work for you since you were running Windows when you put the songs on your iPod, and I think that means your iPod has a different format. Still, I would try to see if revealing hidden files shows the contents of your iPod. You will also need to make sure that it is setup to work as an external hard-drive (I don't know how this works with Windows, but it's just a preference under the iPod preference panel in iTunes).
The caveat is that the files on the iPod are not labeled in a particularly coherent way, but, if your main goal is retrieval, this isn't really an issue. Besides, from my experience, iTunes knows what the files are once you have imported them, so it's not such a big deal that you can't identify them on the iPod.
I hope you find something that works!

  • Old PC crashed - Will new PC delete songs if I sync?

My old PC crashed and I bought a new one. My iTunes file says my iPod is in use under a different folder. It has brought back up all of my purchases, so I am safe there if I sync. However, I have a ton of music from CD that it won't bring back up and my backup is missing about 50% of it for some reason. My question is, can I sync and the music that is already on my iPod will show in my library again... Or if I sync will it delete what isn't currently showing in my new library? I really don't want to spend the hours downloading my CD's all over again if I can avoid it.

The same thing has happened to me and I cannot get any of my information that was in my itunes previously since we had to erase the whole computer. Is there no known way to NOT erase every freaking song off my ipod!? I borrowed alot of peoples CDs to get all the songs I have now and cannot get them all back and do not feel I should have to buy them because Ipod wont let you put your songs into a blank itunes!! please help!

  • Windows 8.1 will not keep the correct time on Dell PC - Clock worked fine when the machine had Windows 7 as OS.

I can set it manually or by Internet time sync but it does not keep time or update again from the Internet automatically.
Another real time wasting feature of Windows 8?  Gosh Microsoft, I really need to get some productive work done!

    Hi,
Meanwhile, you can also re-register time service in your Windows 8.1 system as a test
    Open commmand prompt
In the Command window type net stop w32time
    Type w32tm /unregister
    Type w32tm /register
    Type net start w32time
Check whether the time in your BIOS is correct.
If the Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 use different machines, and this issue only happened after you shut down your Windows 8.1 machine, then it might be the CMOS battery issue in your Windows 8.1 machine, you can consider to change a cmos battery.

Compressor 4 crashes on opening keep getting this warning: The application “Compressor” unexpectedly quit while trying to restore its windows.  Do you want to try to restore its windows again? Tried Restoring windows. It crashes again.  Tried not = Same result.  This is the first time I've actually used the app although I purchased it back in April (I think).  I had my first longform project completed in FCPX and tried sending it to Compressor 4 and got this result over and over again.

    Steve,
Sorry to say I've not had any success in getting Compressor 4 to work.  I've tried every suggestion mentioned earlier on this topic to no avail.  Compressor 4 is dead in the water.  On the last two projects I had to go back to Compressor 3.x.xx to complete the projects.  The only hint that I have of wha may have happened concerns something I did early on.  When I bought this computer I decided to replace the hard drive with a larger one.  Since I already had my software up and working on the drive that came with the computer I decided to clone everything to the new larger drive.  As I recall, Compressor 4 worked on the original drive but it doesn't work on this cloned version.  So maybe there is a relationship there.  I haven't had a chance yet to reinstall my old drive and see if C 4 works on it.  If it does work then I know the source of the problem but not how to fix it on the new drive.  Did you do anything like cloning your drive recently too?  It's just a thought and may not lead anywhere but later this week when I catch a break I'll give the old drive a try and will post my results.
    Thanks,
    Peter

  • My Ipod touch will not synch all songs in my library - on my windows 8 laptop. Doesn't matter if the songs are checked or not - only some songs will synch to the IPOD. I have multiple devices and two accounts.

My IPOD touch will not synch all songs in my library. Library is on a windows 8 laptop. Checking the songs does not matter. I have multiple devices (ipod, IPhone 4 and 5, IPad 2) and two ITunes accounts.

All songs play on the laptop windows 8. The second Ipod touch we have - all songs synch to it and play.
But the first Ipod touch we bought - only half (or so) of the songs synch. So I assume there is an issue with the newer Ipod touch. The songs not synching are songs I added to the library from CD's.

Hi just wanted to let you know I solved most of my XP problems with my new IPOD. It won't recognise the IPOD or driver and froze and locked up and then the battery died. After hours of trying different things here is what I did. I completly closed computer down. Waited 15 minutes turned on and reloaded everything. I put the usb cable in but not hooked up to IPOD. I turned off Mcaffee (all of it). After my computer came on. I then went and closed everything I didn't need in the bottom toolbar. (taskbar). I then reloaded the software and waited. Took forever to reload and I don't know why but whatever it worked but I DID NOT HOOK UP THE IPOD LIKE IT SAID! I instead shut down the computer after loading the software and waited 5 minutes and turned it back on. I again waited and shut of mcaffee. It loaded everything fine this time and said new hard ware and drivers detected. I plugged my IPOD in and YES I WAS UP AND RUNNING (THIS IS AFTER 6 HOURS OF PLAYING WITH OTHER THINGS!) I am able to load and play, burn, watch movies, see pictures and everything your suppose too! The only thing I see different than the instructions is I left my usb cable plugged in and when it said to eject the disk I didn't. I also didn't plug in the IPOD (5th Gen) and then I shut down waited and then restarted the computer. I hope this helps others because I know the feeling of wanting to return something you paid dearly for and worked hard at saving money to buy one and it doesn't work. My only thing I dislike about apple is they didn't supply a ac adapter for the IPOD and the instructions say to plug it up when trying to charge battery. DUHHHHHH, ya can't do that if ya don't have one and stores are closed and won' open until Monday! But at least I am up and running. I just hate having to plug up IPOD to computer daily to charge the battery which only last a half a day1

Adobe R/W from CS6 installed on a Windows 7 64 bit computer keeps crashing

There isn't such a thing. If you are talking about the free Adobe Reader, you are at the right forum, but if your problem is with Adobe Acrobat Pro, you should post here:

In any case, I suggest that you explain what "crashing" means in your case, including any error messages.

I would recommend you use a program called senuti that allows you to copy your songs over to a new computer from an iPod. Unfortunatlly you have to pay for the full version but it allows you to have 1000 free song capacity of copying over and a movie counts as the capacity of 1 song.

  • My 2nd gen iPod touch's music app will crash as soon as a song is selected while headphones are plugged in.

It will crash as soon as a song is selected while headphones are plugged in. It won't even go to the Now Playing screen; it will just hang on the highlighted song for a few seconds and then crash. Works fine when nothing is plugged in, though. Sometimes it will work completely fine, but after restoring the iPod, the problem seems to have worsened after a day of perfect operation.
The iPod was a gift from a friend, and he had it for a while, so I don't think there's a warranty on it anymore. Help please??

If you only restored from backup try restoring to factory defaults/new iPod. If you still have the problem then an appointment at the Genius Bar of ab Apple store is in order since you appear to have a hardware problem. The apointment is free.

That's consistent with all the tickboxes to the left of the tracks (in Song view) being unchecked.
Go into Song view and Ctrl-click one of the empty boxes to do a "global recheck".
If you can't see the tickboxes, head into your General preferences tab and select "Show list tickboxes" as per the following screenshot (it's for an earlier version of iTunes, but the boxes are in roughly the same place in the recent versions 11.x):
