Windows XP doesn't correctly recognize MTP Zen Xtra.. I've tried everythin

It's just like the subject says. I installed the newest drivers from this site and when I plug in the player, the new hardware icon pops up in the taskbar. The new hardware wizard comes up wanting to find drivers for the Nomad Zen Xtra, but it will never find them. It doesn't matter if I search the CD that originally came with it, if I direct the wizard to the folder with the installed drivers, or if I let it automatically search. It always says that drivers could not be found and the hardware wasn't properly installed. Notmad Explorer won't connect to the player, automatically or manually, and yes, I have it switched to MTP mode. I've tried another suggestion of pointing it to the Windows/INF folder because apparently there is some sort of Windows Media Player INF in there for MTP devices, but that doesn't work. I tried installing it as a generic MTP device from Add Hardware, but that only crashed my system. I've tried it on two other computers at work and I get the same results each time. I have no idea what could be wrong. The firmware is correctly installed and the player is freshly formatted from the player's maintenance menu. It was working fine just a week ago. I left it at my friend's house for a day, but all he did was hooked it to his computer (he has a Zen Touch, which I think uses the same drivers) with my player's USB cable and transferred some of my music to his computer. Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. I'm at a complete loss of what to do as it seems like my player's been bricked somehow. Another observation I made is that, when I hook the player to the computer, the player's screen doesn't change to the two transfer arrows screen that it usually does when it's hooked up. Any ideas, suggestions, and help would be greatly appreciated..

Install Windows Media Player 0 if you haven't. Make sure you have Service Pack or 2 for Windows XP. And download the 3 hotfixes and do all the suggestions listed <a href='http://www.nomadness.net/modules.php?name=FAQ&myfaq=yes&id_cat=8&categories =Nomad+Jukebox+Zen#228' target=_blank>here[/url].

Creative MediaSource will not recognize Nomad Zen Xtra 30BG? Hello, I am new to this forum and very frustrated, I own?a 30Bg Zen Xtra and all of a sudden MediaSource will not allow the transfer of files. Here are my specs and things I've tried to no avail:

    Software: 2.02.06
    O/S: Win XP, SP2
    Windows Media Player
Checking device manage it is recognized as a portable device, however it is not detected in WMP . Changed my USB permissions in the registry, downgraded WMP to version 0 (rebooted when prompted), upgraded the application software (uninstalled version 2.02.06?and rebooted?) upgraded?to version 5.20.23 as well installed the plug in, version 5.0.38, which now gives me and error while installing " setup is unable to detect?a supported product on your system, click retry....." tried the different USB ports on the pc as well as changing the cables. Do you have the driver installed for the device? You can find that here.http://support.creative.com/download...ale=033&nPage= WMP is for MTP devices which the Xtra is not, There is a firmware update for the device HOWEVER updating to that firmware may just kill the player so I would not advise doing it since you have XP & you will be able to sync using MediaSource. Did you install the Creative Zen & Nomad Jukebox plug-in 5.00.22? Click on Show Details & read them before installing anything.

have tried everything, updated firmware, drivers, format. I can synch files using included software and Windows MEdia Player 0, can access and delete files from player but whenever I try to play it freezes solid and need a pin "**bleep**" to reboot. Any ideas or should I just scrap this $250 albatross? Bad out of the box is not a good thing no matter what.

Please refrain from using bad language on these forums, we have people of all ages reading.
See how you get on with the reset SSR mentioned. It may also be worth formatting the player, and putting a freshly ripped album on it to see if it behaves the same. You may have some corrupt files on the player that are causing problems.

  • MediaSource 5 doesn't recognize my Zen X

    Hi,
I had to do a reinstall of Windows XP recently, and once it was done, I downloaded MediaSource 5 and the driver compatible with Xtras running on version 2.0 or less -- I installed both.
MediaSource 5 runs fine on its own, and the Zen Xtra is detected by Windows (and shows up in the My Computer Menu in Windows) as soon as I plug it in. But I can't get MediaSource 5 to recognize the Zen Xtra -- when I plug it in via USB, I get the "connected device" noise, but that's it.
Strangely, I get the "connected" icon on the screen of my Xtra if I open it up via the Start Menu, but then I just get a huge folder full of audio files.
How do I get MediaSource 5 to work with my player?
    Thanks!

You must also install the MediaSource plugin of your specific MP3 player. Creative MediaSource 5 and its various plugins are now officially available for download at your respecti've product download sites. The main Creative MediaSource 5 Player/Organizer:

  • No driver found - Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra - WinXP

I have used my Zen Xtra for over 2 years now, with the same PC I am currently having problems with. I recently had to do a complete reinstall of Windows (note that I have done at least 2 other complete reinstalls during the life of my Zen Xtra, with no problems). Windows Device Managers sees the NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra, but with the yellow question mark and exclamation point. Each attempt at driver installation results in the same problem. The driver ("JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03.EXE") installs completely, I'm told to reconnect my device so the driver can take effect. When I do, the device is still marked in Device Manager with exclamation point and yellow question mark, and Windows continues to ask if it can find and install the driver. I have told it not to (knowing that I just installed Creative's own driver), with no success, and other times let Windows try to install the driver (hoping it would find the Creative driver that was just installed). No luck. I have even done another complete reinstall of Windows, and tried to install the driver before any other program or hardware installations into my system. No luck. Note that there are no hardware changes between now and when I have done other complete Windows reinstallations. It just no longer accepts the Creative driver. I have also tried to install the driver in safe mode, with the same results. I have also completely removed the Zen Xtra (showing hidden devices in the Device Manager), and tried to reinstall. Firmware version of Zen Xtra was upgraded over a year ago to 2.0.03.
    Specifics:
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    38GB free hard dri've space
    Zen Xtra firmware version: 2.0.03

I have the same problem. But when i try to installl it it says he is missing an .nfo file.
I removed WMP and reinstalled WM0 because is crap.
    I have Windows XP SP2
I have the newst firmware on it.
Can somebody help me with this because it's annoying not to put any new music on your mp3 player.
I never experienced this before even after formatting my HD.
Almost the same problem as fritzm but not completely because het gets an different error.
I have installed the CD but that doesnt work either.
I have installed the software from the website but that didnt help because he doesnt recognize my player.
    Please help!!

  • Zen Xtra compatible with Zen V Pl

Hi, I own a 60GB zen xtra, which is great for hauling around my giant music library, and a zen v plus for obvious reasons. It seems I can get my computer to recognize one or the other, but not both devices. at work the zen v plus works, but the xtra is not recognized. the opposite is the case at home. Any ideas or suggestions? I do not need to have both devices attached at the same time... tx,?Phil

well, I stumbled onto a workaround of sorts until something better comes along. I cannot install the zen v plus software on my older desktop. installshield crashes with several strange errors. I can get realplayer to recognize it, even though it won't do so on my new desktop. for the time being, I can set up a library on an external usb dri've and switch between the desktop computers, so at least I can transfer files to the zen v plus. a better solution is certainly welcome. I'd like to sort out why my laptop doesn't work with my zen xtra, but that is way less important right now. Phil Obley

  • Zen xtra 40 gb firmware probl

ok first off my computer doesnt recognize the zen xtra and i've tried updated drivers. i have windows xp home sp2. i tried cleanup and it didnt work then i tried reloading the OS and now i get firmware problems. i tried formatting but now i lost all of my music and it still has firmware problems. i cant leave the rescue menu.
    any help is appreciated.
also how do i reload the original firmware? is there a way? i have the disk and another computer (not connected to the internet) that i think recognizes the zen xtra

    dreychris,
Here what you should try. Download the latest driver and firmware from the website. Disconnect the player from the computer. Install the driver and when it had finish, have the player enter the recovery mode. Once in, select Reload OS and wait for the player to prompt you to download or connect for firmware update. Now connect the player up and run the firmware update you have downloaded.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra Firmware Update Issue

My player does not get recognized after attempting to update firmware (ZenXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_0_03.exe) according to website instructions.
When turned on the player displays "Firmware Problem" for a fraction of a second, then it goes into Rescue Mode v., Boot v.4, HW v0.0., 4 items in the menu ( Clean Up; 2 Format All; 3 Reload OS; 4 Reboot)
    This is my setup:
Kernel version: Microsoft Windows XP, Multiprocessor Free
    Product type: Professional
    Product version: 5.
    Service pack: 3
    Kernel build number: 2600
    IE version: 8.0000
    System root: C:\WINDOWS
    Processors: 2
    Processor speed: 2.6 GHz

Video driver: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
    Relevant Applications:
    Creative Jukebox Driver
    Creative MediaSource
    Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra
    Windows Media Format Runtime
    Windows Media Player 0
    Please advise, thanks in advance,

    Problem solved!
I did not follow the link you provided, thanks for the suggestion anyway. I read in another post that you advised to disable the device in Device Manager, although I took a different route. This is what I did after enabling Mediasource DETECTOR
. Completely uninstall Windows Media Player , revert to WMP 0, inlcuding the Runtime
    2. Reboot the PC
    2. Once rebooted connect the player to the PC
    3. right click MY COMPUTER->MANAGE->DEVICE MANAGER
    4. Under Windows Portable Devices right click NOMAD JUKEBOX ZEN XTRA, then select Update Drivers
    5. Navigate to "C:\Program Files\Creative\Jukebox 3 Drivers" to select the driver, OK all the windows
    6. Run ZenXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_0_03.exe with the player connected
    7. I was prompted if I wanted to replace the Firmware with the same version (2.0.03) I said yes... within seconds the player came back to normal.
I hope that the above can help people in my same situation. The culprit seems to be WMP and all the hidden software installed with it. Freakin Microsoft!
Final question. Now that the firmware has been updated, am I safe by installing WMP ?
    Thanks!

  • Creative Zen Xtra USB Driv

I need USB drivers for this player. Can somebody help me?

He is probably having the same problem I am.
All the drivers for the are installed before the player is connected. The Zen Xtra is connected afterwards.
The player connects with Windows XP, is recognized as the Creative Zen Xtra, but when after telling the system to install the drivers, it wants to connect with Windows Update to continue. After the attempt, it says that the drivers for the device were not found.
Looking in the Device Manager reveals that the Zen Xtra has a Code error - The Device is not Configured Properly. All the driver details are Not Available/Unknown.
I have attempted to install this player on 2 different systems with the same result. The Zen Xtra plays and otherwise functions normally. My Firmware Version is 2.0.03. One computer is an AMD64 with Windows XP SP2, the other is an AMD Sempron with Windows XP SPa.
    I hope this hel

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra play and share update probl

I have a jukebox Zen Xtra and I tried to update it for the play and share so it will work on my xbox 360. When I went to update the firmware everyone was going good and then it rebooted and stayed at the recovery menu and just stopped. I tried reconnecting it and it registers that it is connected to the USB for a second then it says device not connected. How do I get it connected again, or what am I doing wrong. I just want to update it so I can use it on my Xbox. How do I get it to update right? Thanks.

    Manning888,
Which firmware are you referring to Assuming you are referring to the PlayForSure firmware, make sure you have Windows XP with at least SP and WMP0 installed. Also, you can try looking into this Knowledgebase article SID0053.

  • Zen Xtra 30 Gig - No longer possible to shuffle within playlists after latest firmware upd

Not sure if anyone else has had this problem. After surviving the Windows Media Player /firmware update nightmare, my Zen Xtra 30 gig now will not shuffle within a playlist. Instead, when I select a playlist in shuffle mode, it shuffles through ALL the playlists. Any idea how to fix this? Thanks!

Same here! Are they going to fix this, or is there a workaround? I was thinking about killing it and going back to the older software...

  • Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod

I have bought my iPod (20GB, click wheel) one year ago with an extended warranty of 3 years. It was working well all the time. But now my Windows computer doesn't recognize the iPod any more although I haven't changed anything on it.
The battery can still be charged using the docking station. But as soon as I plug in the iPod on my laptop USB port the iPod freezes. The only message on my laptop screen says that the external hardware can not be recognized.
The USB port is working properly.
I have also tried to install the iPod update and to reset the iPod. Nothing is working. I guess I can't restore the iPod since it's not even recognized.
    Thanks, Annemarie

I thought I was alone with this problem. I recently went traveling last weekend, and began to think the X-Ray machines killed my iPod!
Whenever I connect my iPod to any computer using the USB connection, Windows will not mount it as a removable drive. The cable is good, because the iPod is being charged but Windows will not recognize it.
I have tried all the different USB ports, even on several different computers. Including my work, laptop, and my desktop. Windows will not recognize my iPod using the USB connection.
I'm in the process of restoring my desktop computer after a hard-drive failure (lucky me all my vital data were on a separate drive), so my desktop has a nice clean install of Windows.
My desktop has a firewire port, so I tried connecting to that port and Ta-Da, Windows recognized and mounted my iPod as a removable drive! Unfortunately my laptop nor my work computers do not have firewire ports.
Can anyone explain why the USB function suddenly stopped working? Does this mean I need to restore and loose all my music from my iPod? I do not let iTunes manage my music, I do that all myself. I can put my music back onto the device but it will be time consuming. If anyone knows the answer to this USB problem, perhaps you can reply to this thread or contact me.
    Thanks,
    Joe Vill
