Windows XP Firefox 3.6.8 hangs up on xmarks 3.7.8 dialog

Before firefox main window is displayed, the xmarks update 3.7.8 is offered by dialog box which hangs up whatever option is chosen. Firefox never starts. Re-installing firefox has worked using the "run now" option, but how can I clear up this problem ? I cannot uninstall xmarks as it doesn't show on the windows software list.

This update is suck so bad

• After downloading service pack 1 for Windows 7 Firefox did not respond anymore (I got the startscreen, but could not do anything, it "hang"), after a roll back Firefox did work again: are Firefox and SP1 incompatible?

After implementing SP1 for Windows 7 Firefox "hang"(I got the startscreen, but could not do anything: no response). After a roll back removing SP1 Firefox works again.
I installed SP1 also some months ago and had the same problems, also then this was solved also by a roll back removing SP1.
Does Firefox have problems in combination with SP1? How to solve this? Thanks.

Followed the given advice: installed SP1 again, ran Firefox in safemode, disabled other running programs as mutorrent, still Firefox didnt work. I had internetconnection (after restarting mutorrent this did work, the app telling me what the weather outside is worked) but no Firefox: as previous time I got the start screen, but could not browse the internet.
I also tried to start the Internet Explorer and it also looked as if that application had problems (but that can also be because I did not use it for a while - old version or whatever - and it is not my standard browser).
Have again performed a roll back in order to remove SP1, now Firefox works again.
If somebody has advice it would be very welcome!

• Dear All, I can't play flash videos from any web site through firefox because it freezes but when i run firefox as administrator then it works fine (But Google Chrome Plays all videos normally.) . I am using Windows 7 & Firefox 7.0.1. Please help

Dear All,
Firefox hangs when i try to play flash videos from any site but when i run firefox as administrator it works fine. (but Google Chrome, Opera & I.E9 Plays videos without running as administrator.) I am using Windows 7 & Firefox 7.0.1. Please help.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

• Deadlock between "Save as" dialog box and another popup window in Firefox

I have only seen this problem with recent versions of Firefox on Mac OS X, and I have run into it several times in the last few months (I am using Firefox 9), where Firefox seems to get into a dead-lock, and I can't find anyway round this except killing and restarting Firefox.
The dead-lock happens when I am in the "Save as" dialog box -- i.e. the popup when I try to save something. If I get a pop-up window warning me that the script on some webpage is unresponsive, this leads to a dead-lock. The reason is this popup expects a response from me -- to stop or let the script continue, but it is unable to accept my response, I assume because the "Save As" dialog box has the focus, but I am unable to continue with the "Save As" dialog (I simply get a beep if I press the save or cancel buttons), presumably because of the "unresponsive" popup is expecting my response.
I don't know if the "unresponsive script" popup happens because I am taking too long with the "Save As" dialog, or if it is prompted by the script from another page (I have many tabs opened)
Is there anyway to get around this without killing the Firefox process? Also, can this problem be fixed so that the dead-lock does not occur?

As I said, the problem is not because Firefox is hanging, or because I cannot save my files. It is happening because the "unrespnsive script" popup is allowed to occur while I am in the "Save As" dialog -- i.e. I have chosen to save something, e.g. a web page, and this prompt the "Save As" dialog, i.e. where I specify the file name and where to save to -- this is working fine.
However, when you are in the "Save As" dialog, the "Save As" window is the only window of Firefox that you can interact with. However, if the "unresponsive script" popup window happens to pop-up when you are inside the "Save As" dialog (which does not occur very often, and I have not encounter it except on recent versions of Firefox o the Mac; I have used Firefox on Windows and Linux for many years), then you get into this dead-lock, because you cannot answer the "unresponsive script" pop-up (i.e to continue or terminate the script), as you cannot interact with the new pop-up window, but at the same time, you cannot continue with the "Save As" dialog -- you can interact with the "Save As" window (i.e. press buttons etc.), but the actions are ignored.
To be clear, what I suspect I am seeing is a bug in the User interface code for the Mac version of Firefox.
I have noticed yesterday that I got an "unresponsive script" pop-up on the Windows version of Firefox immediately after I have finished my "Save As" dialog. I have no way of being certain (unless I look at the code), but my guess is that the "unresponsive script" pop-up was delayed until after I finished the "Save As" dialog on the Windows version, i.e. option 3 in my previous post, but this does not seem to happen on the Mac version.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See Troubleshooting extensions and themes and Troubleshooting plugins
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")

• Firefox Window Unresponsive, firefox itself continues to work.

Past few days I've been running into a problem where firefox will sort of hang there. Everything within the browser works normally, I'm able to browse the web and all my addons continue to function, however I am unable to drag, minimize, maximize, or do anything regarding the actual windows placement on my computers screen, without using the windows 8 charm bar, which only allows me to minimize.
Upon Minimization and subsequent maximization I am granted a few seconds window in which the bar will resume responsiveness and I am able to drag the window accordingly. The time, however, it is short lived.
I have scanned my computer for Virus' and found none, and have even restarted firefox in Safe Mode; Though starting in Safe Mode seems to only exacerbate the problem as my few seconds window to get my browser in a size and place I'd like all but disappears.

• I cannot print pages displayed by firefox, the printing just hangs when I go to File--- Print and press print.

If I want to print a page displayed by Firefox, I do the usual, I go to file, choose Print and press Print on the print window. Then the printer just hang, nothing happens.
No problem with MSN, Word, WordPerfect, Yahoo, etc
Thanks for your help.

There's no "pages" of information, it's one long page of preferences.
print.printer will be listed multiple times, there are like 3 dozen or more preferences for each printer. If you have more than one printer there will be groups of prefs for each printer.
You can try resetting only print.print_printer and then restart Firefox, and see if that solves your problem. But chances are that you may need to reset every pref for that printer.
Also make sure that you don't have multiples of the same prefs for that printer. It is very possible that you may find duplicates like this or similar. <br />
print.printer_HP Officejet 6500_Series(2).print_evenpages
(2) or (3) in a pref means you have multiple prefs for the same printer (usually caused by installing the print drivers multiple times without uninstalling the old drivers first), and that can cause problems with Firefox; the "printer" driver you select probably ain't gonna be the one that is really "installed". If you see something like that, you will definitely need to reset every pref for that printer; the duplicates will be gone after the restart and won't return after you use your printer the first time after the reset.

• Setup problem, windows xp, firefox upgrade to 4 and asked to reboot but did not progress. keeps asking to restart even if I try to remove

setup problem, windows xp, firefox upgrade to 4 and asked to reboot but did not progress. keeps asking to restart even if I try to remove

Hi marsano,
Usually the only reason it will ask you to reboot is if there is a file that must be modified that the updater doesn't currently have access to. You should try running the Firefox program once as Administrator:
* Right-click the icon and choose Run as Administrator
If that doesn't help then do a clean reinstall.
# Download a fresh copy of Firefox from the Mozilla download page and save the file to the desktop.
# Uninstall your current version of Firefox and remove the Firefox program folder before running the new installer.
# Run installer
Remember that you don't want to remove personal data when uninstalling. That way you'll still have your personal information.
Hopefully this helps!

• When I try to open a new window in Firefox, I get an error message

When I try to open a new window in Firefox, I get the following error message:
"Not Found
The requested URL /en-US/firefox was not found on this server."
...but other websites, such as Google or CNN.com, work just fine.
I'm running Firefox 3.6.28 on my MacBook Pro, with OS 10.4.11. I can't update to the latest version of Firefox unless I update my OS, which would be costly and also involve increasing my RAM.
But the Firefox homepage worked fine until this morning. Is this likely to be a temporary glitch? If not, how can I fix it?
Thanks,
Emmy

At least at the moment, the default Firefox homepage is back! So maybe this was a momentary glitch. But see below.
BTW, here's the URL for the page:
http://start.mozilla.org/en-US/?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
But, the "Mozilla Firefox Start Page" currently lacks a menu bar at the top with various Google options such as "Gmail," "more," etc. I found these very useful.
I'm wondering -- did Google tell Mozilla to stop including those links on its start page? Maybe Google wants us all to switch to having Google as our default homepage. Or is the lack of a menu bar just another temporary glitch?

• I just updated to 4.0.1 and I get the "We're sorry. Firefox had a problem and crashed. We will try to open your tabs/windows when Firefox restarts" However, it just keeps popping back up, firefox never restarts!!!

This morning I had a popup on my Windows XP PC stating that the 4.0.1 update was available. I upgraded. now, i receive the following error: We're sorry. Firefox had a problem and crashed. We will try to open your tabs/windows when Firefox restarts. You can submit crash report data, blah blah blah (which i have submitted several)
But, firefox DOES NOT ever open. It just pops back up with that same report window, over and over.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder
Delete sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder
* Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

• Attempting to INSTALL Flash Player 17, on WIndows 7, Firefox 36.0.1-why did I never used to have a problem?

I am using Windows 7, Firefox 36.0.1, and attempting to INSTALL Flash Player 17. I never had problems until about a year ago, the way the installation & set up was so easy...now, I fight with it for days every month when a new update is ready. There used to be 2-3 easy steps to follow; now I click to download, watch the diagram until it finishes, find the icon on my desktop, and click it again (presumbly to download & install), and it disappears. I do not know where or how to see it; a few minutes later I go to my Firefox Plug in Check page...and it shows that it still is not update! So I go through the whole friggan process again...WHY????

Hello,
Please do the following:
Download the uninstaller, Uninstall Flash Player | Windows
Download the offline installer, posted at the bottom of the Installation problems | Flash Player | Windows page in the 'Still having problems' section
Run the uninstaller
Reboot your system
Run the installer
After installation completes, go to Flash Player Help and click on the 'Check Now' button.  The results should indicate that you have the latest version, 17.0.0.134, installed.

• Cannot open more than one window with Firefox

I've been having this problem for a couple of weeks, now, and I've run out of ways to try and fix this.
One day, after starting my computer up, I opened Firefox. No big deal, everything looks fine, tabs are working, etc. Then, when I went to open a second window, nothing. The first window still works fine, I can open tab upon tab, but it just won't open any more windows.
As much as I'm a fan of the browser tabs, I still prefer to have them spread out over more than one window.
I've read through a ton of different troubleshooting walkthroughs and whatnot, reinstalled three or four times, restored settings, but nothing works.
Well, not entirely, I guess. Here's the part that I can't quite figure out. When I disable every single addon, Firefox works just fine. I've done the checking down the list, trying to single one out, but it's *any* addon. Even something as simple as a dictionary search () causes this to happen.
I've checked with an older computer with an older version of Firefox, and it still seems to work fine with addons enabled, so I'm wondering if this is an update issue?
Would reverting back to a previous version of Firefox solve this, and if so, where would I be able to find downloads for a previous version?
So, like I said, I'm at a bit of a loss here. Sort of at a crossroads for trying to figure out what to try next, so I'm hoping someone a bit more knowledgeable can help steer me in a direction.
Edit: I just noticed that the posting includes system information with my question. I should clarify that I'm posting this from an older computer with an older version of Firefox. On the computer that I'm having this issue with, I'm using the newest version of Firefox (3.6.8).

Some old posts indicate the following add-ons have caused the problem of not being able to open a new window in Firefox in the past. If you have any of them you might want to disable or uninstall them to see if that is causing your problem.<br />

You are using an out-of-date version of Firefox. Unless you have a reason for using that old version, you might want to consider upgrading.
*The Firefox version series 3.0.x is no longer being supported or updated, even for security issues.
*The last version in the 3.0.x series was 3.0.19 which was released 03/15/2010.

• I've been wondering about a feature that I ran into with a previous version of Firefox. Is there any way to open two separate windows in Firefox 4?

I ran into this when working in gaiaonline.com on Firefox 3.6, I believe it was .6. It could have been a later version. But it was 3 for sure. I was signed into one profile on one window, and my sister was signed in to hers on a different window of Firefox at the same time. I was wondering if there was a way to achieve this on Firefox 4.

• After upgrading from Vista to Windows 7, Firefox lost all my stored passwords, never asks to save them, even though I've checked box for saving them, have made sure history is not cleared, and am not in Private Browsing.

In Windows 7, Firefox 8.0 does not ask to save passwords, and does not save, them, even though I checked the box to save passwords. I have confirmed that clearing history is not on and that I am not in Private Browsing. This is so frustrating, it almost makes me want to go back to Vista. I have looked at all the suggestions to fix the problem in "Help" and have followed the suggestions, and none of them help.

I have the TX2 1012NR and its can upgrade just fine!  Here is a few recommendations "only if u have the HP Upgrade program disks"
If you have them you can install a clean copy and delete everything... Do not use the use me first disk included because it prompts you to install an older BIOS....  Just use the windows 7 upgrade disk and start the process.  The clean install clears your entire drive but does not void your warranty!   When you use the use me first disk after the install it actually loads everything else needed to get you up in running.  The touchscreen driver and the HP Mediasmart programs will have to be downloaded from the HP support site.  Once again its recommended that if there were any programs installed delete them do not try to update them!  This causes issues and countless errors.  Specifically with touchscreen drivers etc uninstall them before installing the ones from HP support.  I found this was not the easy way to do it but the best way...  I also recommend that when doing any sort of BIOS update that you remove your Battery and leave it connected to a power cord only!  Last but not least if you really mess up and its under warranty... Send it to HP they will set it back up to factory defaults under Windows Vista with the more up to date BIOS installed.  I hope my information helps! Sure you might loose some programs but in the end your computer runs faster and smoother because all the programs installed are made for Windows 7....  Also they did release the Touch Pack for download from the Microsoft website here is a link telling more about the features and benefits and how to get it as it is a totally free download...
