Please Help?!?

Hi and welcome to Discussions,
prior to your problems, did you install any new programms or updates ?
Have a look at the Safe Boot options of XP described here: http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B315222&x=10&y=11
Especially the Safe Boot and/or Boot Logging options might provide some informations, why XP is not booting.

    Hi,
    For this issue,please check the event viewer to see if some error log appeared when the issue occurred.
    It seems that it was caused by corrupted user profile.
    I suggest you use other account to test it.
    If the issue still persists, please photograph the error message and collect crash dump file, then upload here via skydrive or similar network device and share the link here for further research.
    To collect the crash dump, follow these steps:
    First enable app crash dump collection by copying following words into notepad, saving it as dump.reg and importing it:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\localdumps\explorer.exe]
    "DumpFolder"=hex(2):63,00,3a,00,5c,00,63,00,72,00,61,00,73,00,68,00,64,00,75,\

    "DumpCount"=dword:00000010
    "DumpType"=dword:00000001
    "CustomDumpFlags"=dword:00000000
    Then, open a program which may cause the issue. If error appeared, please find the crashdump file under c:\.

  • MacBook hangs up during boot

    After downloading latest mountain lion update, my MacBook will not restart. The light comes on, the fan starts up, and then the computer shuts down. It continues to do this in a loop without my intervention.

  • Windows XP hangs while booting

    Hi everybody
    I am currently experiencing severe Windows XP SP2 boot problems!
    My system is a MacBook Pro with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz. Here is some more system Information:
    * Model Identifier: MacBookPro3,1
    * Boot ROM Version: MBP31.0070.B02
    * SMC Version: 1.16f8
    * RAM: 4GB
    I have installed MacOS X (10.5.1) and Bootcamp. In addition I have installed Windws XP SP2 (German). Currently use and have installed NO additional hardware drivers apart from the BootCamp ones.
    The system hangs sporadically when I boot (using Boot camp) under windows. Windows XP freezes mostly during the initial startup (before the log-in). Sometimes however it freezes after I have logged in and have performed a few operations. These hang-ups happen almost 95% percent of the time. Yet after a couple of new starts and safe mode boots I am able to log in. I would also like to mention that I cannot log in when I boot at safe mode because the built-in MBP keyboard does not work; so I just stop at the log in screen and restart.
    thanks for the help in advance

    I just fixed a Dell Inspiron laptop with a similar boot hang problem. The machine would hang if the iPod was plugged in the USB port, or even a powered USB hub. The machine is 5 years old and is USB 1.1
    The machine would hang in the boot sequence right before it would go to Windows start part. I took USB completely out of the boot sequence and that didn't do it. What did do it, based on a suggested fix from a Dell guy.
    With the iPod unplugged, here is the Dell suggestion which might help some but not this Dell (keep reading below for the fix that worked):
    1. Restart the System. (Unplug the IPod from the system)
    2. Tap <F2> at the Dell Logo to access the BIOS.
    3. Go to the Advanced Tab, and disable the USB legacy support.
    4. Save the changes and exit.
    But on the 1100 that I was working on, it had a older bios and used the Alt-P procedure to page through BIOS options. On page 3, there was a USB Emulation option. If you read the description, there is no way one would think that this would have an effect. I changed this to Disabled and that allowed the machine to boot with the iPod plugged in.
    I hope this helps someone. If your machines hangs before windows starts, get into the BIOS and go to work!! Tom [email protected]

  • K8N Neo 2 Platinum -- Hanging during boot --RESOLVED--

    Heres the problem...
    My system will hang during boot at anytime, from bios initalization to full windows boot (No BSOD ever and where the pc hangs in the boot proccess is totally random). And the only way to get past the hang is do a soft reset. I have to restart my system up to 3 times before I get a good boot, but once the pc is up and running, it stay running till I shut it down. (no hangs)
    Now if I shut it down after the system has been running for a while, the pc will restart normally without any hangs. The hangs only occur after the pc has been down for a time.
    I have reseated all the connectors, the memory (even tried different slots), add-in cards, cpu.
    I have a clean install of Windows XP Pro (hard drives have been repartitioned and reformatted as NTFS)
    All fans are spinning up fine, all temps are within norm, power supply voltages are within norm.
    No phsysical signs of bad caps on the system board.
    I ran ran Memtest86 for 18 hours striaght with no errors.
    Ran CPU stress test with no problems.
    No IRQ,DMA,etc conflicts found.
    Windows records no errors during a freeze and I have checked for unwanted services/proccess as well.
    I have tried min install to no avail.
    Bois is retaining its settings (so bios battery is good)
    I do not over clock anything. Bios is set to discover all important setting automaticly. (Bios setting are the same now as they were 6 months ago)

    I am down to my last option of RMAing my system board. No. I have not replaced any components due to the fact I don't have extras lieing around nor can I spend the money just to troubleshoot :(

    Ok I won't go into all the details of why I missed this but it turns out the northbridge heatsink fan had stopped spinning and thus the hangs during boot due to overheating (hhmmm, when I step back and look at this the symptoms point right to overheating).
    This also expains why after several attempts at booting up, once the pc was up it would run like a champ. The chip would of course overheat and cause random freezes. Now due to the placement of the chip and the design of the heatsink once there was enough airflow over the heatsink the chip would remain cool enough to prevent further freezing of the system.
    What helped to facilitate this is that I have a ducted fan system installed in the bottom of my case which directs a substantal amount of fresh air to the pci slots, the chip set and the AGI slot as well.
    So what have we learned class?
    1. check the obvious
    2. do a complete physical inspection of your system

    • Supports 2.5v DDR SDRAM DIMM
    Due to the High Performance Memory design, motherboards or system configurations may or may not operate smoothly at the JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Engineering Council) standard settings (BIOS Default on the motherboard) such as DDR voltage, memory speeds and memory timing. Please confirm and adjust your memory setting in the BIOS accordingly for better system stability.
    Example: Kingston HyperX DDR500 PC4000 operates at 2.65V, 3-4-4-8, CL=3.
    For more information about specification of high performance memory modules, please check with your Memory Manufactures for more details.
    Manually adjust your ram voltage to 2.65 volts and then manually adjust your ram timings to 3-4-4-8-2T.
    If that does not work then do as Richard suggested and strip down to a bar-bone system, this is CPU+fan, 1 stick of ram (try other stick and different slots as one may be bad), graphic card and PS-2 keyboard, if it boots fine without any problems then add one device at a time until you find the problem.
    Post back results as there are more things one can try but lets start with the simple stuff and work up.

  • Ultra 5 Hangs During Boot

    My Ultra 5 hangs during boot at the following point....
    setting default ipv4 interface......
    I have tried resetting my router, unplugging the network cable, and nothing seems to work.
    John

    jmorrissey3, is this a system that just suddenly stopped working, or is this a "new" system (it's not like Ultra 5s are really new) that you're trying to bring up?
    If this is a new system for you to tinker with, you should just go ahead and reinstall the operating system. This will blow everything away, of course, but it's good experience if you've never done it before and it will guarantee that the system is clean.
    If the data on there must be retained, you can boot from CD-ROM, mount the / partition, and look at some of the configuration files to try to isolate the problem. I would agree that it either is set up for DHCP and there is no DHCP server or there is an invalid NFS mount that is trying to take place.

  • Windows XP hangs on boot, computer heats up

    Hi,
    I recently had my Nvidia card replaced in my Mac Book Pro, OSX 10.4.11 and since then tried to boot up Windows XP with Bootcamp. Windows XP hangs on booting and the computer heats up incredibly quickly. Does anyone know why I can't boot in Windows or how to fix this? The mac partition works fine and I can access my documents etc from windows through the mac side. But I do need to run certain programs on Windows. Any help is appreciated.

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
    first thing I would try are the Safe Boot Options of XP described here http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B315222&x=10&y=11 and especially the 'enable VGA' option to ensure that XP is okay.
    While in Safe Boot maybe deinstalling the Nvidia graphics driver currently installed can help.
    Might be that because of the replacement, the new one isn't correctly detected.
    Hope it helps

  • Freeze during boot after enabling Hyper-V feature in Windows 8

    Good day.
    I'm using AMD FX 8320 with 990FXA-GD65. After enabling hyper-v my pc freezing during boot.  Google told me that it might be issue with USB 3.0 controller, so i disabled it in bios, but result still the same.
    Can you please tell me where should i look at?

    Hi,
    Please try to boot into WinRE and run the Startup Repair option.
    Generally speaking, when you add feature like Hyper-V, system would take a long time to get this feature configured. if your computer still stay updates configuration steps, you can use Windows 8.1 installation image to repair system. In system repair mode,
    you can access into Command Prompt mode, and check CBS.log under C:\Windows\logs\CBS.
    This log file would record Windows installation process, we may find the problem of Hyper-V installation.

  • Mac Mini w/ Sony V2500 Hangs During Boot After Upgrading to 10.4.10

    I searched the the threads for something similar on this topic. but I could not find anything, so I am putting the question out to the forum.
    I have an interesting situtation after I upgraded my Mini to 10.4.10 last night. It seems that when the Mini boots up while connected to my Sony KDL-40V2500 LCD, the Mini will hang in the boot squence. If I disconnect the DVI connection (I have a DVI to HDMI connection) at the hanging point in the boot, the Mini will continue to boot fine and then when I reconnect the DVI cable to the Mini, the display works fine with no issues.
    Has anyone else experience this unique issue and are there any recommendations.
    Thanks in advance for any help!

    Hi SwimRef and hplus-
    Thank you both for your suggestions. I did try to boot with the Airport turned off and I was able to boot without any issue. However, when I turned the Airport back on, the ballon was spinning for a good period of time and then I gave up and turned off the machine.
    However, the Mini still boots without a problem when the DVI cable is not attached, so for the mean time, I'm gonna stick with the process of booting without the cable until I have time to reinstall a fresh OS (no archive and reinstall).
    I will put this tidbit out there that seems odd. When I was trying to figure out the issues yesterday, I did hook the Mini up to my 20" Cinema Display and all loaded well without any issues. In addition to the no issue load, I noticed that my screen background was not the same, but all of my other settings were just the same as if I have booting using the Sony TV. Any thoughts on if the two are connnect?
    Thanks again everyone for your support!

  • Mac Mini keeps hanging during boot

    My ~3 year old Mac Mini keeps freezing during booting with the error message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button...". This happens every time. Booting in safe mode works.
    This happened with Mac OS X Tiger but keeps happening even after I have completely reformatted that hard disk and reinstalled Leopard from scratch. There are no external devices connected to the computer besides the monitor and a bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
    After reading some discussion forums I have already tried starting into Open Bootware and running "reset-nvram" and "reset-all" but to no avail.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    What you are suffering is a Kernel Panic, and given you have reformatted your drive and reinstalled MacOS, it would tend to suggest the issue is hardware related - most common culprit being RAM.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106227 explains what kernel panics are, and http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html and http://www.index-site.com/kernelpanic.html may give some assistance in working through the problem to determine the cause.
    The one good thing is that your system appears sufficiently stable to allow you to boot to the Leopard installer and complete a full install. This makes it less likely there is a fundamental issue with the most expensive component of the system, the logic board.

  • Satellite L875D-S7232 Hangs Up When Booting on Battery Power

    Hello all... As I stated in another thread regarding Special Function Keys, my new Satellite L875D-S7232 has an issue that during boot-up of Windows 7 HP SP1 without the AC Adapter plugged into it, it will "hang up". After many hours of troubleshooting & even having it looked at from the retail tech that sold it to me, we have found no solution for this. I have also formatted the machine, partitioned the HD, & installed My version of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit SP1, along with updated ATI & Realtek drivers, along with only the updated driver software from Toshiba support website, & this issue still presists. This apparently isn't due to faulty written bloatware, & apparently due to an actual hardware issue. I am returning it to the retail outlet I purchased it from, in hopes they have a replacement machine of this model since I do like this platform at the price I got it. I will respond to this post to let ya know if the replacement was a success & the issue only pretained to this actual machine, which is what I am suspecting since I haven't seen any posts on this forum of a similiar issue. I did come across a port/thread (whatever ya call them) where a person had a different model, & his machine did exactly the reverse of mine, where his machine would hang up on the boot if the AC adapter was plugged in, but fine when running on battery. Myself & the retail tech even tried the solution they suggested of changing BIOS setting on the Processor cores... This solution was unsuccesful for my machine.

    I hope it works fine after the exchange. Let us know how it goes.
