Windows XP hangs on 'spash' screen after video drivers installed on K8N Neo4-F

Hiya folks - got a MASSIVE post for everyone here...  Sorry but I think it's necessary...  Here goes:
I just upgraded everything in my computer except for the HDD.  New case, power supply, etc.  I started by copying all important data from my original HDD to a portable USB 2.0 drive.  My data is safe, and intact on that drive.  So...  I formated and repartitioned the oroginal hard drive (1 partition), assembled the system and everything runs perfectly.  The problems come later....
The Windows installation is insanely fast and smooth...  and the system boots into Windows with no problems after installation is complete.  I didn't even need to install the nVidia RAID drivers because windows detects my single SATA drive fine.  The First thing I do upon seeing the desktop for the first time is: Install nVidia chipset drivers, then AMD Athlon 64 driver (both latest releases).  I then restart and the system boots fine.  After Windows starts, I'm asked for display drivers.  I click 'cancel', as specified in my ATI installation guide, open up the ATI CD and install the drivers via the ATI autorun setup.  At this point, there are no further drivers for me to install and NONE of them have an "!" near them.  So I figure everything is A-Okay and restart... BAM!! - Windows hangs on the splash screen.  The blue bar moves for about 10 minutes, then stops for 2, then moves for 2, and so on...  This will go on FOREVER.
So...  I boot into safe mode and uninstall the ATI software/drivers with the help of some other third-party programs, schedule a disk check with CHKDSK and reboot.  I startup in Directory Services mode to allow the disk check to complete.  No errors and the system restarts on its own (supposed to).  Now the system boots in normal mode again, but no video drivers installed.  So I download the latest drivers from the ATI website and install them.  I restart, and WHAM! -- same problem.  At this point I'm thinking "bad video card" so again I go into safe mode, remove drivers, schedule disk check, etc....   restart in Dir Serv mode...  "one or more errors found" this time...  but that's okay.
After the auto-restart I shut down the computer and unplugged EVERYTHING but the video card, HDD and one stick of RAM... then reset the CMOS, checked battery and PSU outputs (all fine) I then went back into the BIOS to ensure everything is set to 'as safe as possible' and restarted.  Again I tried the latest drivers, and again the same problem after restart.  So I then booted into safe mode, but left the drivers intactthis time.  I scheduled another disk check and restarted again in Dir Serv mode.  After system restart I shut the computer down and switched to my other RAM stick and booted...  same problem.  now I'm DEFINITELY thinking "bad video card" so I plug everything back in the way it's supposed to be, reset CMOS and restart with the Windows CD the drive.  I again format the HDD, etc... and install Windows.
Now, with another fresh Windows install, having read multiple tech articles, I thought this could be an issue with the NV SW IDE drivers, so I installed the driver pack minus that driver.  I restarted and the system boots fine.  Next, I again tried installing the latest ATI drivers, restart, and SLAMMO! -- again the system hangs on the splash screen.  So, rather than waste my time with disk checks, etc...  I did ANOTHER clean OS install.  This time I decided to try installing video drivers BEFORE the chipset drivers...  no such luck.  I restart and Windows hangs in the usual spot.
NOW, I'm REALLY getting upset and can hardly contain my fists of rage that crave to desimate the computer case and all its internal componets.  Time to RMA the video card.  I exchange the card for the same type, thinking this will solve my problem, I drive happily home with the new card.  Wouldn't you guess it...  SAME PROBLEM, on ANOTHER clean OS install!!!  Now I'm thinking "bad mobo"? - I don't know because it boots fine and runs fast without video drivers, but it seems to be directly linked to the video card.  So...  I figure "okay maybe these nForce boards don't like ATI cards"...  so I return the Radeon X700 and exchange for a BFG GeForce 6600GT.  Yep, you guessed it, STILL the SAME problem!!!
I 'm pretty-sure the problem has got to be with the mobo but I can't be too sure.  It doesn't seem too likely because the system boots and runs fine with basic Windows VGA drivers.  Also, if I were to try and boot to VGA mode after encountering this problem, that would not work at all either, in any situation, other than after removing the ATI drivers or installing windows without them initially.  Right NOW, as we speak, I tried uninstalling the nvidia drivers/software via safe mode, I ran disk check, etc...  but the system will no longer boot in normal mode or VGA mode even without the nvidia drivers installed.  I've formated the hard drive and am ready to reinstall again if I can find a solution to this problem.
If ANYONE can help me it would be EXTREMELY APPRECIATED!  I'm not a dummy when it comes to computers but this is pure MADNESS!!!  I couldn't even BEGIN to fit everything else I tried into this forum.  I had to sum-it-up, but I will gladly answer any questions from you 'brains' out there and will monitor this site daily.  I won't ask the question and disappear never to tell of the solution I may or may not find...
Thanks in advance,
Eilios

Hi,
If you only have one Serial ATA Hard Disk, then you don't need the nVidia RAID Driver. This driver is only needed when you set up a Serial ATA RAID Array or a Parallel ATA RAID array. For this you must have two identical hard drives in your PC, for RAID 0 and RAID 1 arrays.
nVidia SATA RAID drivers supports RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1, and JBOD. When you install at least two Hard Drives, prepare your mainboard to use SATA RAID and
set up the RAID Array style you want to use.
Then you will need to install the nVidia RAID driver, to allow Windows to "See" and use the drives correctly. This is done by pressing the F6 Key, inserting the nVidia RAID Driver disk , and "telling Windows" where to find the driver it needs, at the very beginig of the Windows XP setup process.
However if you install a RAID driver with just one SATA Hard drive, or two SATA hard drives, (this last scenario not set to be used in an array, but as two different use drives, lets say one for OS and one for MP3 Storage), then Windows begins to load, it will load the RAID driver, but since there's no RAID Array, Windows will keep "looking" for an inexistant RAID Array, and if there's no such RAID array, this will take forever.
That's why installing nVidia RAID Driver may hang your system (which as you saw is  not really hung), at the Windows Splash Screen, it is just trying to find something that doesn't exitst.
NOTE: nVidia RAID Controller, supports RAID Arrays into both, the Serial ATA channels and the Parallel ATA (IDE) channels too. But for both options, you always need to have at least two identical hard drives installed to build up and use a RAID Array, which can only be seen by the nVidia RAID Driver, for both Serial ATA hard drives and Parallel ATA (IDE) hard drives.
NOTE: JBOD stands for Just a Bunch Of Disks = In this scenario, you can combine hard drives of different brands and/or capacities into one big drive that will be seen by Windows as one drive only.
NOTE: Even if you don't have any RAID array, you must install the nVidia nForce 4 Drivers. You can just leave the nVIDIA SATA Driver check box empty.
Hope this helps
I did not have any RAID or SATA drive in my system, actually these were disabled in BIOS. I had the similar experience though. BTW, why NF4 chiset driver is very important to install if Windows XP drivers can get the job done? Look at my link in the previous post.

    Thanks,

I have found the solution to this problem - hope you are still watching the thread.
Express install in parallels seems to be the culprit. Do a custom install instead and set your own virtual hard disk size. I set mine to 12 Gb (12000 Mb)and made it a fixed size instead of "growing" or whatever the heck parallels calls it. I also chose shared network instead of "bridged" (I read that someone else had identified this as part of the problem).
After making those changes it worked like a charm.

  • Satellite L500 - System hanging on startup screen after Windows update

    Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help. My Satellite L500 is hanging on the blue startup screen after it restarted after a windows update, the mouse arrow is moving, and there seems to be some hard drive activity with some flickering in the system indicator lights. Other than that, nothing? Any ideas?
    Thanks,

It was stuck on the Windows 7 welcome screen, all I had to do was hold the power button down for longer and restart it properly. I was just concerned as they always say not to turn the computer off during an update.
*All good now* thanks anyway :)

  • HT1492 windows 7 boot camp black screen after install

    Hi,
I have installed bootcamp on a 2010 white macbook with os 10.7
Windows 7 was install all the updates for apple and windows where completed. Everything was looking good and running great. This is my work computer and it has run boot camp previously on another macbook with the same specs.
When I restarted the computer to comfirm that all was good with both partitions the mac is running great, but the windows just locks on the black screen, no cursor, no windows starting.
I tried to start with the install disk in but after the black and white instruction screen the computer went back to the black screen.
I deleted the windows partition and tried to re-install but just got the black screen straight away and it will not even load.
When i did this I noticed that Parallels had been install on the computer I tried to start it and the windows 7 is asking for the install disk to be inserted and restarted to fix problems. I insert the disk and tried to restart but nothing happened again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. As i need to do school reports over the next week!
    Thanks LC

Did you create a snapshot of Windows in Parallels to fall back onto if it won't work?
It sounds like to me you didn't pass validation, did you ignore those warning bubbles in the bottom corner?
Take the machine to a local PC/Mac geek and have them find the problem, it's too involved to go into here.

  • Problems with Windows 8.1 Updates - Black Screen after login

    Dear All,
I have a HP Pavilion g6 (SKU is D0Y12EA#ABU) and it's been running Windows 8.1 64bit without any trouble ... until recently.
On the last two occasions that I've done a Windows Update, something has caused the laptop to stop booting correctly. I get the logon screen but once I input the password, it gives me a black screen and a mouse cursor. I'm able to boot into Safe Mode and I've tried updating the Intel Graphics drivers but it doesn't help. The only recourse I end up having is to roll back to a Restore Point and prevent Windows Update from running.
Does anyone know if there is a specific update that is causing this? If so, can I get the KB number so that I can stop it from installing?
    Regards,
    Gareth

    For Intel GraphicsOnly
I have a DV7-7133nr to which I have modified to SSDs, 16 Gig of Ram and Windows 8.1. I too had the black screen of death for a long time and have read many forums, and nothing worked until my last attempt. I am an Intel Channel Member and Partner and a Microsoft Partner, and this has fixed the problem, but it only applies to boards running the Intel Graphics 4000 video.
    1. Go to Hp's website and make sure you have the latest bios update. I did, so at boot up, I held the f10 and reset the bios to default settings, hit f10 and saved.
    2. When booted into windows, I went to the Intel website, support, drivers, and searched for the Graphics 4000 driver. Their driver was later than Hp's so I downloaded it to my desktop. I then uninstalled the hp driver through the Device Manager and removed everything, and rebooted the computer. That gave me back the Microsoft basic video driver. I then installed the Intel driver I downloaded, and not only did it removethe Microsoft basic Driver, but it installed correctly and gave me a control panel for the driver.
    3. Since then, about 2 weeks ago, I have not had a black screen since.  The HP Driver is out of date for Windows 8.1, but this DV7 has been the best laptop I have ever owned.

PSE trial 12 installed just fine but when i start the editor it opens and shuts down after about 2 seconds without an error, the only thing that appears is a message with 'continue trial'.
I have windows 8.1 64 bit and i already installed the latest video drivers, intel hd 4000 and nvidia geforce 710M.
I also installed premiere elements version 12 with the same problem.
What can be the problem here, please help?

    Hi roberto-
Yes, its a shame. I have also contacted lenovo support hoping that they can sort out this problem. However, first response from them was 'contact your internet service provider since internet connectivity goes down'! :-/ I am hoping I have been able to get through to them now at least about where the problem lies. I wonder if anyone has tried using the laptop with the same broadcom wireless adapter with some other version of OS (linux, windows 7 etc.) and whether they still face the same problem. I haven't tried that yet. If this is just an OS / driver issue I hope someone somewhere is working on a fix! If not, I guess the only other solution would be to get an external USB wifi adapter but that is not something one would want to do when you buy a brand new Lenovo laptop. This was a big let down for me.

  • Mac stuck at startup screen after snow leopard install went bad

I have an iMac running on 10.4. I have all the requirements to install 10.6.
i bought the $30 cd to install it, put in the cd and chose install. It went to screen with the black/purple space background and a window that had me choose where to install it to. I think I booted from the install CD.
Chose english, it prepared installation, clicked continue on the install mac os x window. Then i had to choose where to install it. There was only one option (the hard disk) but when i clicked on it, it said i couldn't install it. So I clicked back but I couldn't quit the installation.
When I restarted the computer, it just kept going to the installation and I kept ending up in a dead end. So, I browsed for my available options to restart my computer running on my old OS. I clicked utilities > startup disk > then clicked the hard disk. I thought this would just restart the iMac normally.
The computer restarted, but now its stuck on the start up screen. I turn it on, stays on the apple logo, then it shuts itself off within 2-5 minutes.
Am I screwed? Did I lose all my files that were on the computer? I know I'm an idiot for not backing up all my files on an external hard drive.
How do I get out of this and just use my computer?

Which specific model of iMac do you have? If the installer refused to install, then there must be a reason, such as lack of hard disk space, RAM, etc.
Did you eject the DVD, or is it still in the optical drive? If it's still in the drive, you should try booting from it by turning on the iMac and holding down the 'C' key until you see the spinning radian and see if it will boot from the DVD.
Post back with more info and results.

  • How to SET or Configure BIOS to use XFX6200 TC video card for MSI K8N NEO4 Plat.

    Hello Friends,
Can any body help me to the following problem?
I am having XFX 6200 TC Geforce / nvidia Grafix card for my MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum Ultra board.
The BIOS states PCIE clock speed as 100 Mhz as default.  The setting can be changed upto 145Mhz.
My Video card can be configured upto 350 Mhz.  How to do this and which is the right way to use the display card with optimum setting?
Thanks for all those who reply to this.

    the coolbits link http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=815
to manually set the clocks on the graphic card, after installing coolbits, just follow the instruction on that page:

Unpack the achive (self extracting) and then in the setup directory simply click on the .reg file. To get to these options simply right-click on your desktop and go to 'NVIDIA Analog Display' (Win XP/2003). For Win 2000 and lower you may need to get to the Nvidia Control Panel the old way. Right click desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced > GeForce xxxx
for overclocking just take a look at the overclocking sections of the forum. make sure to read the stickies before you do anything.

  • Audigy 2: Windows XP hang at login after new drivers instal

    Hi All,
I have found that after installing the latest version of the Audigy 2 drivers (<span class="Apple-style-span">SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_8_000) on my Windows XP SP2, sound works just before you reboot after installation. After the installation reboot, and after you enter your password at the login screen, you hear the logon-sound, and after that XP freezes.
I have booted into Safe mode and disabled all startup items, and Windows then boots normally. However, when I try to narrow down the fault by selecti'vely re-enabling some of the Startup items, it then hangs again (no matter which ones I enable).
So far, the only successful startup config consists of only the CT startup items being enabled.
If I enable ANYTHING (even a single different item each time) else Windows hangs again.
The only solution is to select "Restore last good known configuration" before Windows boots up. Undoing the driver installation using System restore, does NOT help.
    Anyone with any ideas?
    Thanks?

UPDATE: Just updated to SP3 and guess what? Windows hangs at login as before, despite the fact that I was using the older, up to now fully working, drivers.
Solution? Simple! Throw the card in the bin, and enable the onboard soundcard. END of problems! These people at Creative are completely USELESS...Not wasting any more of my time on their crappy products (and programming).

Thanks for the reply; I have already gone back to?<span class="Apple-style-span">SBAX_WBUP2_LB_2_09_006<span class="Apple-style-span">?which seems to be working OK.
The point is however that part of the new release does not work, and I am convinced that it is related to some 'helper' application and not the main driver itself.

  • MBA hangs on login screen after mountain lion upgrade

I have a mid 2011 macbook air. Ever since I did the upgrade to mountain lion last week, I have had about 10 instances where it hangs on the login screen. I bring it up from sleep, I see the login but when I enter my password and hit enter, it just hangs with the login box grayed. I can hit the cancel button and it gives me the ability to interact with the login box again, but will not log in. on all but one of these instances I have had to restart the machine. I have timed it to 5 minutes twice before restarting the machine to get back in. This never happened with lion. Anyone else have this issue?

    I have issues also.
With a samba share on Linux, ML can see it correctly, but on my Windows Home Server 2011, if i do smb://"server address" i receive and error saying that the share dows not exist on server. Before on Lion i had a list of my shares. On finder the Server apears with a "/" which i can not open.
If i do smb://"server address/share" is works correctly, but i would like to have tha before behaviour. Besides this the only issue that i found after upgrading is the WHS 2011 Lauchpad could not sign in (before in Lion was working).
Any ideas on how to solve this?

    1. The system hangs during startup in POST screen and sometimes boots into OS after a long wait  (20-30 mins)

    3. White screen garbage disappears in few seconds and blinking cursor stays for long time (around 20 -30 mins)
In net, I have to wait for around 30 mins for the system to boot into OS everytime. If I interupt in between by pressing any key, long beep and white screen garbage appears. I am not able to enter the BIOS as well.
After logon to the OS, everything seems to be absolutely perfect. But the problem comes back after reboot or hibernate and resume the system.
Appreciate any solution or feddback from anyone.

My T500 did this as well after the update.  I went into the bios and loaded all the defaults, rebooted.  Went back into the bios and reset my options (discrete only, turn off some unused features) and the system is working normally and Vista is booting as quickly as it had been before the update (and actually can accomplish a reboot).

If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Please follow below steps for troubleshooting:
    1. Reboot the server, usually fixes this error.
    2. Make sure your authentication settings on your virtual directory for PowerShell is correct.
Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager, <Servername>, Sites, Default Web Site, PowerShell and in the right panel, scroll down to the Authentication module, then make sure that Anonymous access is disabled and Windows Authentication is
    enabled.
    3. Double check the configuration of HTTP binding on Default Web Site in Internet Information Services (IIS).
    4. Run Get-User Identity | FL *power* to check whether the current logged in user has remote powershell enabled.
If the issue persists, please try to remove the PowerShell virtual directory and renew for testing.
