Windows XP Home to Professional...Chinese to English

Hello!
My husband bought an Ideapad S9 series in Hong Kong.  Unfortunately, our flight back was the next morning already but all the stocks available only had Windows XP Home Edition in CHINESE.  We were told that we just needed to buy a language converter and everything will be English.  It was too late to know that such (or perhaps nobody knew about it?) did not exist.  We tried to change the language settings, yet this did not change everything in English.
We were told that the only solution would be to remove the OS and re-install a new one.  A friend has an extra Windows XP PROFESSIONAL Edition, not Home.  Will this work in our Ideapad S9 series?  It has already been more than a month, yet we still haven't used our notebook.  HELP!!!

after installing xp and all drivers, i think youd like to remove the hidden restore partition as it would be a waste of space and you will not need it.. to remove it and merge the free space into drive C, use a disk management software (acronis disk director, norton partition magic, etc)

  • Windows XP Home or Professional Service Pack 3 for my new ipod??? Why?

Majority of all my ipod songs are on my iTunes on my old computer (which we bought in 2005), and at the time I've been using my second generation ipod. So now that I've bought a new 4th gig one...I see on the back of the case how it says that it needs to be Windows XP Home or Professional Service Pack 3 or later and iTunes 8 or later, but I'm not sure my computer is SP3 right now....does that mean that even if I update my iTunes, my ipod will not sync? I hope not....someone help

Don't worry, you can install iTunes on Windows 7. Just make sure the recipient knows to download the correct version of the installer.

  • Is labview 5 compatible with Windows XP home and professional version?

Can i install labview 5.0 on a windows XP environment- home and professional version?
Also is labview 5.0 and 7.0 compatible with Celerons? Or is there any difficulty?
    Please clarify

They all work fine in these environs. The only trouble you may run into is temporary files not being accessible if the user logged in is not an administrator or the vi was created by an admin and a limited user tries to run it. This can easily be fixed by giving lower users permissions to use these files. The legacy versions of NI-DAQ do not run on XP though, you'll have to use a more recent version of them.

  • "Requirements: Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2"

I do not yet own an IPod Nano, but I am planning on buying one. The question that I need to know is about the wording of the requirements for Windows XP. It says XP Home or Pro with Service Pack 2, but I don't know whether that means it requires Windows XP Home (without SP2) or Windows XP Pro with SP2; or if it requires Windows XP Home or Pro, both needing SP2 installed. I have XP Home with no Service Pack installed, and do not want to install it due to a conflict it has with another program that I use on my computer. If anyone could help me with this, thank you very much. Also, if you have Windows XP Home, please post if your IPod Nano is working and if you have SP2 or not. Thank you.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Windows 8 also works, but only with compatible Macs > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US Note that you can also install Windows 8 in non-supported Macs by Apple, but you will not be able to install the Windows support software.

  • Please Help; Windows 7 Home Premium to Professional.

In requirement for an IT class, I installed Windows 7 Professional over my Windows 7 Home Edition installation on my netbook. I have encountered a seriously problem though, as Windows 7 Professional seems to be stuck in Safe Mode and will not let me connect
to the internet (The little red X is next to the networking icon on the bottom right hand of the screen, despite my Ethernet cable being plugged in). I must have done the installation wrong
I need to restore my old windows configuration (that's in my Windows.old file) and be able to connect to the internet. Can anybody help me?

I will suggest you to check and update Network drivers and check the results. Or you can share a screenshot from device manager if you're not sure.

  • How to Perform In-Place Upgrade of Windows Vista Home Professional amd64

I'm trying to perform an in-place upgrade of Windows Vista Home Professional amd64 but the setup process fails stating that I need to remove Windows PowerShell prior to the upgrade.
    I didn't have http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928439 installed so I couldn't uninstall it.
I checked Windows features and PowerShell and the ISE were listed.
I tried removing it (via optionalfeatures.exe) but it fails with 'An error has occurred. Not all of the features were successfully changed.'
I tried installing http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928439 then removing the Windows feature - same error as above.
I tried installing http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821 then removing the Windows feature - same error as above.
I tried uninstalling http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928439 then removing the Windows feature - same error as above.
I tried performing an in-placce upgrade again and it continues to say that Windows PowerShell needs to be removed.
I cannot remove PowerShell (or the ISE) via ocsetup.exe as no such option exists according to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff716463.aspx
I tried removing it with DISM via /online /Remove-Package /Disable-Feature, but "DISM does not support servicing Windows Vista with the /Online option."
I tried sfc /scannow again - same 'Windows
    Resource Protection' error.
I tried the in-place upgrade again and it still needs PowerShell to be removed.
There have been chkdsks and reboots peppered throughout this process.
I don't know what else to try & I  feel like I'm stuck in a possibly crazy catch 22 situation.
Note: This is a Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 64-bit machine.
For those that need more history on how I got here, I'm going to refer you to my 'Windows
Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation' post in the, incorrectly categorized, Windows 7 forums.  In short:
Whenever I run Windows updates, all the updates fail.  It doesn't matter if I do one, all or something in between - they all fail.
I ran sfc /scannow but that fails with 'Windows
Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation'
I tried performing an offline scan as well but that failed with the same 'Windows
    Resource Protection' error.
Not sure what to do at this point and I don't know what logs would be helpful for you to review at this stage (cbs.log, windowsupdate.log, other?)

Please try below and check if we can boot normally now.
    1.
Boot to Recovery console2. Use the backup
System registry hiv to replace the current hiv
    In the Recovery Console.
    In CMD, go to:
         %systemroot%\System32\Config\
    Run: ren system system.old
    Go to:
         %systemroot%\System32\Config\regback
    Run: copy
         %systemroot%\system32\config\regback\system %systemroot%\system32\config
    Restart your computer.
After that, please try to test if the server can boot to normal mode now.

  • Upgrading windows 7 home premium 64 bit to windows 7 professional 64 bit

Can I upgrade Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit to Windows 7 Professional 64 bit without losing my program information, my settings or my desktop? If yes, how to proceed?
Thank you for your answer! Manuel

Apologies about the delay. I've been brooding.
Although we don't know where the specific relevant keys are on modern versions of iTunes, there's a shotgun approach we can take to dealing with them, which has a reasonable chance of success in this case. The complicating factor in your case is that you've got a 64-bit Windows. So there's an extra hoop to jump through.
The basic approach is the procedure from the following weblog entry:
[Solving setup errors by using the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions|http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/09/04/solving-setup-err ors-by-using-the-subinacl-tool-to-repair-file-and-registry-permissions.aspx]
The complicating factor is that we have to make an additional edit to the reset.cmd file.
When you're in Notepad, replacing the two YOURUSERNAME values with the name of your Windows 7 user account, in the first line of the batch file, replace the:
    %programfiles%
    ... with:
    %ProgramFiles(x86)%
(On a 64-bit Windows system, subinacl is installed in a different location than on 32-bit systems. So unless we make that change, the reset.cmd isn't going to be able to find subinacl and the reset.cmd won't work.)
While you're in Notepad editing the file, make sure each of the nine lines of the file start of a new line. (Sometimes they get smooshed up together on a single line, and then again the reset.cmd won't work.)
I'd strongly suggest setting up a System Restore point immediately prior to running the reset.cmd. There's instructions on that in the following document:

  • I have downloaded adobe reader xi but cannot open my system is Windows 7 Home professional?

I have downloaded adobe reader xi but it will not open - my system is Windows 7 home professional?

    Some things to try...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
If you cannot open Reader by itself, try to disable Protected Mode in the registry; download, unzip, then run the attached registry script
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

  • Tx2517ca From Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit to Windows 7 Professional 32-bit

    Hi Everyone,
I have a very specific question. I currently am running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit, but I want to use Windows 7. However, I want to use Windows 7 Professional 32-bit (rather than Windows 7 Home Premium) and understand that this will require a clean install.
Before I purchase Windows 7 Professional, I want to make sure that this can be done correctly. Does anyone know if this is possible or have already done this?
I have downloaded and ran Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor which told me that I would be able to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate, but it does not mention Windows 7 Professional at all. I'm assuming this is because it would require a clean install.
    Thanks for your time,
    Lauren

thanks ... I see now from your other post that you're probably getting either a "missing QuickTime.msi" message or being told that a "newer version of QuickTime" is installed when you try to go ahead and uninstall QuickTime after you're told about the Key?
Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Windows XP Home SP3 install issues

I have Windows XP Home running on my Macbook Pro on a 40GB partition. I have about 16.5GB of free space on that partition. Whenever I try to install SP3 onto the system I receive "Cannot install SP3 because C:\windows\$SevicePackUninstall" needs an extra 4MB of space" error? I've tried to install through Windows Update and manually with a downloaded SP3 file.

If you attempt to install this release candidate on an Intel-based Apple computer (Mac Pro, Mac Mini, MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, or iMac) that is running Windows XP SP2 through Boot Camp, installation may fail with the error "Out of disk space".
To avoid this, manually create a necessary registry key as follows:
    To create the registry key
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
    3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and click String Value.
    4. In the text box under the Name column, type BootDir and press ENTER.
    5. Right-click the name BootDir, and then click Modify.
    6. In the Edit String Value dialog box, type the drive letter for your system drive, and then click OK. For example, if your system drive is C:, type C:\
    7. Close Registry Editor.
After you have created this registry key (or if you created this key when you installed a previous version of this Service Pack), you can proceed with the installation.
