Windows XP installation on new machines

Hey, anybody knows if the latest Toshiba machines support Windows XP installation,
or it is commonly accepted to support only Windows 7 and later OS?
I tried to install Windows XP Pro SP3, 2008 release on Satellite C660 machine released in 2011,
and it crashed at the beginning of installation. Can it be that Bios prevents the installation,
forcing to work with Win 7?
Or some drivers are missing in XP installation pack, making XP incompatible with HW?

On this forum you will find many threads where you can find answer to your question and also good explanation how to install WXP on new notebook models.

I presume it happen because of missing SATA driver. It must be loaded with F6 before WXP installation starts. You can also create WXP installation disc with integrated SATA driver. How to do this you can read on

If you have more questions you are welcome.
By the way: have you created recovery DVD before you have started WXP installation?

  • Windows Vista Installation on New Intel Mac

I bought a full version of Vista about two years ago. I removed it from the Intel Mac I had originally installed it on. Indeed, I've replaced the HD it was on, but for reasons other than removal of Vista.
I installed Vista successfully on a new Intel Mac, but it won't accept my Product Key.
I followed the instructions and tried the online activation. After entering a very long string of numbers, I received a curt, automated, "We do not recognize your registration number. Please call back at another time." The line then disconnected.
Various searches online have produced no result. The Microsoft help page has an article on registration, but all searches from it for my issue lead me back to that same page.
I assume that the fact that the OS was registered on the other machine has caused a problem, but I note that the license lets me install the OS on one machine. This, I am doing. As the OS was sickeningly expensive, I'd like to reinstall to get some use out of it.
    Any ideas?

That's sort of what I feared.
Considering that almost no one buys a "full license" to Windows other than factory installed on a machine or as an upgrade, I figured the problem I had would generally be unusual, except for people who installed it new on an Intel Mac, which is why I posted the question here.
I've not been able to find on Microsoft's help page a phone number to call Microsoft about this issue, and, as I said, all purported web-based solutions send me right back to the very same web page about product registration. If they weren't a monopoly, they wouldn't be able to get away with this.

  • CS3 Design Premium installation on new machine

Hi hoping you can advise me as I'm a recent member of the forum.
I'm running CS3 Design Premium at work (am hoping to upgrade the software later this year) and am in the process of getting a new desktop (Dell T3500, 1 intel Xeon W3680 3.06Ghz processor, 6GB Ram, 500MB HD, 1GB video card, Windows 7 64-Bit (tho they may just install XP for now)).  This machine will be 'mine' for the next 5yrs so I want to make sure that I get one that will 'do the job'.
My IT dept have asked me to find out if the above software would benefit from a machine with a dual core or quad core processor, is the support out their from Adobe for quad core processors?  I will admit I have no idea so thought I'd ask you guys .
Any help/advice you can give on the hardware spec would be greatly appreciated.
    A.

    Steve,
Thanks for getting back to me with regards to my HD query re Design Premium
    - I've taken the info and forwarded it to my IT dept with some other stuff
    I found through the forum.

  • Fresh Windows 7 Installation on new drive -- LR3 questions

I bought a new SSD drive that I intend to use as my Windows 7 boot drive.  I will do a fresh installation of Win 7 and reinstall all my applications.   Lightroom 3 is currently installed on my older conventional drive in the C partition.  That old drive will become a data drive.
    1. As far as I can tell, all I need to do for LR3 is export my existing catalog to a temporary holding location (like a USB drive), install LR3 to the new drive, then import the catalog into the new installation.  Is that all it takes to get me back to where I am now?  I assume I will also need to re-register LR?
    2.  My SSD is smaller than my current C: partition so I want to limit it to Windows and required program files.  I'll want to keep all data on a different drive.  Some Windows programs, by default, store certain user data on the C drive.  As far as I can tell, LR3 doesn't store user data on the C drive by default.  It just stores the required files for running the program on C, and stores user data in locations specified by the user.  Is that right?
    3.  Are there any other considerations, specific to LR3, when reinstalling the OS and the program?
    Thanks.

Assuming your original image files are on a seperate drive to the boot drive then Copy or Move your catalog file (and the preview folder if you wish) to another drive, no need to export it. Just copy it back to whatever location you want once finished and open it from the new instillation. On no account re import files that are already referenced by a catalog. When you re start LR it should find the original files if the drive paths to wherever they are located remains the same, if not right click and relocate the files/folders.
LR stores the catalog file and previews data on whatever drive you specify when creating the catalog. It will default to the C drive unless you say different. The locations of preferences files, templates etc. are by default on a windows installation at user/username/AppData/Roaming/Adobe on the C drive. Obviously the image files themselves can go wherever you wish.
It is usually best to locate the catalog on a different drive to the OS and applications where this is possible. However if your SSD drive is large enough the performance gains from having the previews on the SSD may outweigh the performance gains from having them on a separate drive, it rather depends on how much space you have on the SSD.

If you're using DW8, the easiest way is with MM-Exporter:

  • Install windows 8.1 enterprise trial on new machine

I want to install windows 8.1 enterprise trial iso from microsoft site.
Now I want to install it on new machine.
My new machine has ubuntu install and I want to clean install Windows 8.1.
How I create bootable disc from ISO ?

    Hi,
If you want to clean install Windows 8.1 or other Windows, you should first have the installation media a DVD burned from the ISO file, here I give a method to burn an ISO file to a DVD in Windows 7, you can follow this way:
1.Insert a recordable CD, DVD, or Blu‑ray Disc into your disc burner.
    2. Open Computer by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, and then clicking Computer.
3.In Windows Explorer, find the disc image file, and then double-click it.
4.If you have more than one disc burner, from the Disc burner list in Windows Disc Image Burner, click the burner that you want to use.
5.Click Burn to burn the disc.

After this, you can conduct a clean boot in this way :

  • How to move an Oracle VM Manager installation to a new machine

Hi, i currently have a VM Manager running on a multi-boot machine along with Windows. I now want to use a laptop to run VM Manager against the same VM server as my old installation. How can this be accomplished? Can i do a new fresh install and migrate the settings from the old one or can i import vm's from the VM server directly?
Or can the backup/restore option of the Vm Manager be used?

Hi, thanks again but it is not the Virtual Machine i want to migrate, it is the VM Manager instance including the Oracle XE DB with the repository containing all the info about my VM Server. The most likely solution i have been able to find is to backup the the VM Manager on my existing machine and then install a new fresh VM Manager instance on a new machine and the restore the backup to the new machine. Anybody done this with success?

  • I  bought a new laptop (Dell ProBook; Windows 7.1) after a catastrophic crash of my old one. I installed my licensed copy of Photoshop CS3 on my new machine, and find that my activation key will not work.  Is this remediable, or am I simply stuck buying a

As indicated in the header question, I've been unable to get PS CS3 to run (other than in "trial period" mode) on my new laptop. I purchased CS3 a few years ago and had it up and running on my former (now deceased) machine; I still had the activation key. I installed the program on my new machine (running Windows 7.1), seemingly uneventfully. But when I now enter the activation key, I get an error message informing me that the number is not valid.
Does the activation key become invalid after a certain time period, or is there something I can fix? I'm interested in upgrading, but would like to have the familiar version available until I get around to doing so (just retired; lots of time-consuming changes afoot).
    Thanks for any help/info.

  • I can't seem to get my Windows 7 Box to "see" the NAS where my music and movies are stored.  This ran fine on W XP.  After I installed iTunes on my new machine, I can't get it to "see/recognize" the NAS drive.  5 other computers can.  Any Ideas ?

I have a mix of Apple and Windows Boxes.  The primary NAS is a 2TB Buffalo Unit.  The back-up NAS is a QNAP with 6TBs (set up as Raid 5).  Until I removed my old 32 Bit Dell machine today, all the rooms in the house got excellent delivery of audio or video, via Apple TVs, which then run into DACs and amps, and the  rest of the gear.  The 32 Bit Box was failing on some boots, so I got a new machine.  I installed 64 Bit iTunes on it, but cannot get it to recognize the NAS Box. It's like the setting took, as I can see it, however, it "appears" that iTunes is looking elsewhere for the media.  I would really prefer not to reload all 850 CDs, and redownload the 56 movies from iTunes.
Is there something that changed in 64 Bit iTunes ?  years ago, iTunes would sometimes boot and really want to find the music under Documents and Settings..... but that seemed to sort itself out.

My previous machine has Itunes Installed, and I deauthorized the machine so I unlinked to my Apple ID, if this is correct.
Anyway, Dropbox is also not connecting....so I do not know how to make it woek. please help!

I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account.  I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there.  On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back.  Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email.  The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option?

  • Installing old software from previous Windows 8 installation? And installing new software.

    Hello.
    Two questions.
Can I re-install software from my previous Windows 8 installation onto Windows 10 Preview? All the files needed are in Windows.old. I have some software that was registered to me, and getting another copy will be kinda hard.
Also, when the final edition (i.e: not a technical preview) comes out, will any new software that I have installed onto the Technical Preview still be there?
    Thanks.

It depends on how you installing Windows 10, if you do custom install or clean install which means either format partition of your current Windows or install Windows and removing previous version of Windows which would create Windows.old, you have to reinstall
your applications and restore your data and you need product keys and installation files. However , if you do upgrade which is possible from Windows 8 to Windows 10, then you will have your programs and files in place and you don't need to reinstall them.
But note like previous upgrades (e.g. Windows 7 to Windows 8), you might have some compatibility problems and you might need to uninstall some programs and install newer version which you will know during upgrade process.
When final version of Windows been released, you might need to update or install latest version of some software or programs which are compatible with Windows 10 and latest software products should work on Windows 10.

  • Couldn't create a new partition with a windows 7 installation

    Hi
I have a b570 laptop. It was originally windows 7 home premium and I wanted to install windows 7 ultimate from scratch (didn't want to upgrade it) with new partitions, so I have deleted the original system partition and tried to create a new partition but to my surprise I couldn't create a new one. I tried to use the onekey recovery but it keeps asking me for the original partition, which I don't have. Please help me if you know how I could solve this problem. Thank you in advance.

With the windows 7 installation disk...I select the unallocated space shown on the screen -> click on the new button on the bottom -> set the size of the new partition to be created -> and click create.
