Windows XP not seeing iPhone

Device manager not seeing iPhone. Problem began after upgrade to iTunes 8.0.2.20. USB ports working with all other devices. Computer sees iPod nano as does iTunes. Have uninstalled and reinstalled all iTunes components. usbaapl driver appears in DriveStore but because phone is not recognized cannot point hardware device wizard to the DriveStore folder. iPhone working normally otherwise.
Any/all suggestions appreciated.
Thanks, L. Edwards

Windows XP now sees a new piece of hardware but thinks it is a printer.
I can point it to:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\usbaapl_246F92BBD6449C86FC3F3F28C40D59AC1F69C558
It searches but comes up with "Cannot Install this Hardware" because the wizard cannot find the necessary software.
I am thinking that I may have a corrupt/wrong driver. Would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks,
L. Edwards

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

To connect my ipod to itunes with windows 8 not see the option to add to add songs from itunes library. As I can solve this?

Since you can only sync your iPod with one computer at a time, you'll need to copy the contents currently on your iPod to your new iTunes library first.  See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different ways to accomplish this task.

Yes, I had MBA burn Apple's Window support software to a DVD. In Windows I am getting "Hardware not found" and during another attempt (using windows's update driver) "driver not found".

  • Itunes not seeing iphone, vista, USB, error 1611

After 8 hours of work and researching everything on the web and including here, I have restored my Iphone.
Background: Itunes loaded on an toshiba laptop running 32 bit Vista.
After plugging in and my iphone sync, I got the usual update message and finally decided to update. Well during the middle of the update the proceess aborted. I went to restore and that aborted.
    1. I tried an new cable and that did not work and started to get a 1611 error.
    2. I took the iphone to apple genius and he recovered the iphone from the broken restore and my phone was working with all data lost.
    3. I plug the iphone back in at home to restore my back up and Itunes would not see my iphone.
    4. I read serveral sites and articles on this site. I found that none of the articles got to the root problem. Several articles on the site need to be updated.
Here are the results of my finding.
    1. After you find that your iphone will not connect to Itunes ( thus it does not show up in the device section of the left panel), you need to go to the device manager in windows (go to start - start search - type "dev" - select device manager.
2 Open up the Universal System Bus section. You should see two things if your system is working properly when you iphone is plug in. One you should see the apple mobile device usb driver. Two you should see your card reader. You need to have both of these. If you dont have either your your system is not going to reconize your IPhone. I had one driver in there that said "unknow device". This was not the iphone in error!!!! As stated in articles on this site. This was the Card reader software by Realtek on my system. Because i did not have a card reader i could not see my Iphone.
    STEPS to fix.
    1. Shut down.
    2. Unplug all USB devices.
    3. Reboot to safe mode.
    4. Delete out all USB drivers.
    5 Shut down.
    6. This is important!!! unplug your power cord.
    7. This is important!!! take out your battery!!
    8. Let it sit for 5 minutes with out any power.
    9. Put in battery and plug in computer.
    10. reboot the machine to normal startup.
    11. Let it add all the USB drivers.
    12. You should now see your USB card reader. If not try it again.
    13. One you have your USB card reader driver. Plug in your Iphone.
    You should be working.
Another helpful hint. If you reload Itunes like I did. Which was a wasted step. Because the Card Reader was the problem and reloading itunes will not fix this. Take a backup of the registry key that has your Iphone name. You will save some time.
Good Luck and I hope this helps someone.

    technabob,
What version of Windows Vista are you running (32-bit or 64-bit)? Please note that 64-bit versions of Vista are not supported as stated in the minimum requirements:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305703
In addition to iTunes and Quicktime, you will also want to remove/reinstall Apple Software Update and Apple Mobile Device Support as listed in:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
If you are still having issues, you may want to test the iPhone in a new user, or use MSCONFIG to see if there is any software that might be conflicting with the iPhone. For more information on using MSCONFIG, see this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305415
    Good luck,

  • Vista does not see iPhone

Windows Explorer cannot the iPhone.  iTunes sees the 3GS, the memory alloted to pictures, but does not show over 1500 pics.  iTunes only recognizes pics in files on PC.  There are under 50 in the files.
When I plug in the iPhone, it searches for the device driver, but cannot find one.
The iPhone is appearing in Control Panel / Auto Play.  Changing this setting makes no difference.
The iPhone also shows up in Control Panel / Device Manager as a Portable Device referred to as a Digital Still Camera, it has a yellow yield icon on it.  It says it has the correct driver. Also, below the camera listing is 5 other devices.  They are all the same listing of "Microsoft WPD FileSystem Volume Driver", they all have a yellow yield icon on them.
I have deleted all the portable devices and rebooted. They come back, however I have the same problem.
If have tried a number of things, if I recall I saw "Code 10" at one pont.  I do not remember the item it was attached to.  I will follow-up with more info as I can get.  I have had a 3GS for over 2 years.  Apple Care tried to help me very diligently on an other Vista machine and had no success.  Please Help, someone.
    Q

    Hello
Actually you would not be able to get the 2.2 update if you had an older version of iTunes. The iPhone should be seen in iTunes no matter what version you have as long as it was at least 8.0.2 or later. Sometimes earlier versions will still allow iPhone to show up.
I know the OP states he contacted support and they could not get it to be seen. But below are a couple tips and suggestions incase something may of been over looked
    1. Connect iPhone to all USB ports and see if it shows up (May need to remove USB devices like Printers, Scanners, USB Drives etc. To allow more power flow through USB ports)
    2. Do not connect iPhone to a USB Hub, Keyboard, or USB extension Cable (Try and use the original iPhone USB Cable)
    3. You may need to check the Apple Mobile Device Service and ensure it is started
    - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567
    4. You may need to run Msconfig, and re-connect iPhone
    - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1275 (Windows XP)
    - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2292?viewlocale=en_US (Windows Vista)
    5. You may need to Uninstall certain Anti Virus/Security Programs vs Disabling them to see if iPhone will show. As some of these will run in the registry background even when they are disabled thus still preventing iPhone from being shown in iTunes
    6. More info about checking the iPhone driver and further troubleshooting below
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1495
*If you have not had the chance you may also want to test iPhone in a new user on the computer.

  • Upgraded from vista to windows 7 not seeing music list

I upgraded from vista to windows 7. When I sync my iPhone 4 I am not seeing my music listed nor my apps in the list. I had backed up my entire computer to my external hard drive and copied everything over to iTunes. But not showing up in any lists when I connect my phone???? Any ideas?

    Hi,
I'm am used to working on Mac's but u don't think my advice will hurt.
iTunes reads your hard drive for songs and compiles a song list for them.
It then stores this data as your ituneslibrary.plist file.
In the file drop down menu you should have an option to select library.
Try reelecting your iTunes library icon and then it should reload your iTunes with playlists and play counts etc

  • Facetime window will not close. (iPhone 6 iOS 8.1.3)

Recently and quite frequently, after a FaceTime call has ended the window will not close out to the normal FaceTime call history screen. Even when I double tap the home button to close out apps, the FaceTime window, still showing my live face and "call with whomever as ended or ending" (it switches between ended and ending when clicking back on the window) will not swipe closed; it just moves up and right back down. I can't even swipe it closed during a live FaceTime as I could before. The only way I've been able to close out the FaceTime app is to power down the phone then turn it back on.
Anyone else experience this? Any suggestions?

    Hello nelly_eastside,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your FaceTime application is not fully closing after a call. In this situation, I would recommend forcing the application to close and then resetting your iPhone. To complete these steps, please follow the instructions in the attached articles. Please let me know if the issue continues.

  • Windows xp not seeing mac mini during migration

    Hi all,
I just set up a new mac mini for my in-laws, fast-forwarding them through 15 years of technology. However, the migration from Win XP is not as seamless as Apple promises. After all the installation, the mini saw the PC, but the Migration Assistant on the PC does not see the mini. What is there to do?
    Some details:
--- I verified on my router that both computers are on my LAN.
--- If it matters, the Win XP and thus the Migration Assistant is in Hungarian, as is the Lion installation. Everything is up-to-date.
--- I tried a reboot on both machines.
--- I shut down on all firewalls for the migration.
--- There is no apparent security lockdown on my router that would cause the trouble. Apart from uPNP being turned off. Is that a problem? The mac saw the PC twice...
--- Actually, after the reboot, the mini did not see the PC anymore, and before the reboot, it could see two instances of the PC, but picking either did not help as the PC was still only "looking for the mac", with an endless progress bar.
I am happy to try any networking or Windows setup, I'm just out of ideas.
    Thanks!
    Laszlo

    Thanks I figured it out.

  • Windows users not seeing my attachments, and other issues

After being an Entourage users for years, I finally switched to Mail/Address Book/iCal/.mac combo when Leopard came out. After using Mail for a few weeks, I have some questions:
    1. In Entourage, I could paste an image from the Clipboard (say, a screenshot via Command-Shift-Control-4) into a message, and everyone could see it. When I do that now, none of my Windows friends can see the image. All they get is a blank box with a red x in it. What are the methods in Mail that work for sending attachments?
    2. If I get an email from someone, I want to know if they're already in my Address Book. Is there a way to do that? If I right-click on the person's email address, a drop down says "Add to..." and it will add them, even if they're already in my Address Book, which leads to duplicates and even triplicates. I find myself duplicating contacts virtually every day. In Entourage, if you clicked "Add to Address Book" and it that person was already in the Address book, it would toss up a window, saying that this address was already in there, do you want to view it, or add to existing contact.
    3. No categories. If I get an email from someone that treats me with familiarity, but I don't recognize them, there's no way to go into my address book and tell what relationship I have with that contact. Client? Acquaintence? Purchaser? Relative I only met once 6 years ago? This is because there seems to be no way to attach a category to each contact. Once you have over 2000 contacts, it becomes difficult to remember what each one is there for. Did they purchase a product on my site? Or are they a vendor? Someone I met at a party? There is the Mail Group function, but those act more like Smart folders. But those groups aren't attached to the actual contact, so when viewing the All Contacts, there's no way of telling who's who. Even if there were simply a way to color each contact, those colors could act as a category, and one could sort by them. This is my major concern right now with Mail over Entourage. Any ideas on how you are handling this?
    4. There doesn't seem to be any way to grab the entire mailing address in one Copy. You can highlight/copy the address, street and zip, and paste that into, for instance, a Dymo label, but you have to go back and grab the name separately. Any way to completely grab the mailing contact information?
    5. If I search for, say, "Comcast" in the Address Book, I logically get all of the contacts that have "comcast.com" in their email address. But there should be a way where it gives precedent to the actual Comcast company contact, instead of having to scroll through hundreds of contacts to find the actual company. I'm finding this for many companies that happen to also have their name in the Notes section of many contacts. I guess I don't have a question on this point, just pointing out something.
    Thanks for any tips.

It would help us help you if you posted the URL to the html file that holds the QuickTime file.
A QT MPEG-4 file should be viewable on a Mac or PC running QuickTime version 6, or higher. A 36 minute movie that is not set to "fast start" would require the entire file be downloaded prior to playback and that would take a few hours over my pitiful Texas dial-up connection.
