Windows XP not transfered with migration manager.

We upgraded a MB to a 160G drive, after loading mac os we used the migration utility to transfer all the user files. it all went smooth but the windows xp partition was left behind. I contacted apple who confirmed that migration manager will not do antying with any windows partitions and suggested any 3rd party application to do the job but did not know which one.
We have the old drive in an external case and we can see and mount the partition on the desktop but it's grayed out. Permissions did not do anything.
Has anybody run into this problem? Any ideas, we're trying to avoid having to reload windows xp from scratch again, and aaalll the other applications in it.

In my opinion, this is one of the best things about Parallels. You don't have to deal with #!@*^&$% parititions.

We have CSA MC v5.2. I have put a pre-defined CSA on a server (seperate from the CSA MC), which installed successfully and the MC sees the host.
However, although a pre-defined CSA is successfully installed on a host (non-server), I am unable to get the MC to see it. On the host, the CSA simply states that it's, "Not registered with the Management Center."
Please help in resolving this.
Also, is there a Windows Vista fix? Currently, I am unable to get the CSA to install on Vista.

I actually found under EDIT then Catalog settings / then metadata that the automatic write changes to XMP had been unchecked. Once I check this, it updated and connected all the keywords to the pictures. Now when I copy and paste the keywords show up as I can now detect them in Adobe bridge when before I couldn't see them even though they were in lightroom. . Thanks for your input.

Finally, I got to hear sound from windows 7 as guest OS.
I gave up to use virt-manager and launches OS image by command line
like follows.
% export QEMU_AUDIO_DRV=alsa
% qemu-system-x86_64 /mnt/win/win7qemu002 -cpu kvm64,+nx -enable-kvm -m 1536 -soundhw hda -usb
Then, sounds works good.
# However, the quality is bad because of heavy CPU load.
Virt-manager may make things complex..

I'm having the same issue. Not running Windows though... I have a minimal Ubuntu 14.04 as the guest (Arch as the host.) Been trying everything I can think of but I can't get any sound in virt-manager. Like you said, the sound seems to play OK in the guest, it's recognizing the card, volume is turned up but no sound. It has to be an issue with my host configuration but I'm not sure what. I can get sound to play in the same guest if I launch qemu directly and use ac97. Something's gotta just be misconfigured with virt-manager/libvirt/Spice. I thought a permissions issue at first since by default it runs as the "nobody" user but I even tried the foolish thing of setting /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf so qemu runs as root... still no go. I'd really like to use virt-manager for the nice GUI, presistant settings, and extra features like Spice and the QXL driver that enables KMS on the guest.

I need to add 2 more licences for photoshop cloud and I'm being told my operating system windows XP does not work with Photoshop cloud. We already have 2 pcs using it in our office so why not?

Windows 7 not starting with 2nd HDD

Having lots of fun with this one.
Have a Mid 2012 MBP Classic. Recently purchased a HDD caddy for a second hard drive and a SSD (Crucial M500 480GB).
My intention is to run OS X Mountain Lion on a 400GB partition on the SSD, Boot Camp Windows 7 on the remaining 80GB, and then format the old 750GB Apple HDD in exFAT for storage both OSes can access.
I have everything running at the moment apart from the fact that I can't start Windows. I just get the usual 'No bootable device' error when I try.
If I disconnect the old 750GB drive it starts fine. If I run Windows as a VM in Parallels it starts fine. Otherwise I can't start it.
One thing I did have to do during Boot Camp setup is format the install 80GB as NTFS, which I assume is normal.
How can I make this work? I have already tried rEFIt which makes no difference. Modifying stuff via diskpart in Windows will break things-I've been there before!
Does anyone else have a similar setup to the above?

If windows see other drives with GUID it will not install.

Years of people using multiple drives, began in 2006 with Vista and Mac Pro, every SSD + hard drive iMac or MacBook or even two of anything.
I don't even think it cares about port 0 or 1 or "primary".
Swap the optical and SSD etc AFTER you install Windows.

Backup will not restore with migration assistant.

This is long and complicated but here goes. Had a 10.5 machine PPC that was backing up to a time capsule. IMac blew out PS so was toast. Took it home and took another iMac 10.5 machine that had a bad HD. Put new HD into that machine and installed 10.6 and then ran migration assistandt from the old iMac HD drive from the unit with the bad PS. The restored iMac with the new HD was a perfect close of the older iMac and everything was perfect. Took to customer site and they were happy. Time machine started backing up again to the same time capsule as before. It created a new backup image on the time capsule with the EXACT SAME NAME as the older iMac had. I did not know that until a year later when the new hard drive in the rebuilt iMac failed. I took a newer iMac of the Intel variety with 10.7 on it to the customer site. I told migration assistant to restore from the time capsule users and data file. I di not want it to restgore programs since I knew the ones on the newer iMac where newer versions and probably not compatible. Restore seemed to go just fine. Users were all there and desktop looked the same as the older iMac with the dead hard drive. I had to install a printer driver but all appeared okay. Customer called the day later and said all files for pages and numbers and address book appeared a year old at the newest. See where this is going.
I went to the site and started looking at the backup files on the time capsule drive. Taht is when I noticed that two exact backup named files existed. So I started drilling down through them ( Not using time machine casues it only had 1 day history on it ) and looked at the dates of the files. Sure enough, one of the backup images had files that had all ended a year ago when the original iMac blew out the PS and the other backup file with an identical name had files much more current in the current month and year. Simple I said to myself. I just happended to pick the older file to restore from. So I renamed the older file so I could not get them confused. Double checked that the one with the current files was named correctly. Went to migration assistant again and ran it again. Completed just fine but sill no file less than a year old. NOw I am really puzzled so I tried a test of one simple file to see if I was wrong in my assumptions. The address book file was one of the files that was a year old. I went to the time caplsule and drilled down to the exact file that address book makes. I had already thrown the corresponding file away on the new machine so I copied the file from the exact same location on the time capslue back up to the same location on the new machine. I then fired up address book on the new machine and the address book worked perfectly with the new and updated and current records.
So now I am sure that the drive image that I have been playing with on the time capsule has the up to date backups. But migtration assistant will not move them to the new machine. It will take a very long time to move every pages and numbers files scattered around in various folders to do this manually. What is wrong with migration assistant that it will not work correctly.

I am not asking if there is anything on the card. I'm not worried about the backup or recovering all of my information. I'm asking if setting up the replacement phone as NEW will change anything at all when I use the OLD sim card.

Finding Files Transferred with Migration Assistant

I used the Migration Assistant to move my settings, documents, programs, etc. from my iBook to my MBP. The assistant moved most everything from my iBook over, as I couldn't pick and choose which particular applications, documents, etc. that I wanted to migrate.
I'd like to go through my new laptop's drive and clean out the items that I didn't want transfered but were since I couldn't specify the files and apps I actually wanted to transfer.
Does the Migration Assistant group the files that it tranferred in 1 easy place? The only thing I saw was the System Folder (from Old Mac) directory. If there is not, is there a way to find those files and applications easily (ie some general flag that files that were transferred from Migration Assistan share that I could search for via Spotlight)?

The moved documents, applications etc. are but in the same general place (directory, folder etc.) as the original. If images are moved from the User's Picture folder, they are put in the new User's Picture folder. The same is true for music, applications, documents etc.

Trouble with Migration manager.

The Migration Manager never ends the cycle. I'm trying to transfer data from my macbookpro to a new iMac. I have followed all the instructions.
I'm working with an ethernet cable. The program starts to run but stops after a few hours.

Windows 7 not booting with 4gb ram

Hi!
Situation:
I installed Windows 7 via Bootcamp. On 2gb ram (2x1gb or 1x2gb doesn't matter) windows boots fine.
I upgraded to 4gb ram (2x2gb) and now Windows is not booting. As far as I know, it's not even getting in DOS.
There's just the cursor blinking into infinity...
What I've tried so far:
Installing windows with 2gb and ugrading to 4gb.
Installing windows with 4gb
Tried the 32bit and the 64bit version
Found a 'solution' on the web making me boot in safe mode in order to change the maximum ram windows accepts.
Attributed more gb to the windows partition
I'm out of ideas, what do you think?

Safari for Windows is NOT compatible with Unicode 3.1 CJK characters!

This is an "old" problem since Safari for Windows was initially released. In the meantime, the problem is still not fixed in the latest version 4.0.3 (531.9.1).
Not only Safari (for Windows) does not properly show homepages that contain Unicode 3.1 CJK characters, but it also fails to show Unicode 3.1 CJK characters (it shows "squares" instead) in the whole application, such as Search box and all dialog boxes. Will this be fixed in the next release?
By the way, it is strange that Safari 4 for Mac is Unicode 3.1 compatible.

To speak more precisely, the Safari for Windows doesn't support CJK characters of Unicode CJK Unified Ideographs Extension B.

Photo details not transferring with Export

When attempting to Export a photo and selecting "Include Title and keywords and Location Information" -- the information is NOT transferring. Instead, I get the date of transfer. How do I maintain the original date and place the photo was taken?

Where are you seeing this "incorrect date/time"?
It sounds like you are looking at the file metadata using the finder rather than the photo metadata using a photo program ( like iPhoto or preview). A file is not a photo and the file data describes the file. The photo data is in the EXIF and IPTC fields within the photo

Windows 10 Not Compatibile with Aspire One Happy2?

New here--my first post. Microsoft says my Aspire One Happy2 netbook is not compatible with Win 10 because the Intel GMA 3150 will not support it. Does anyone know if any efforts are being made by Acer or Intel to issue an updated driver and/or software patch that will enable me to run Win 10? I am currently running Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit with 2GB of RAM. Runs OK, but a little sluggish. Was hoping Win 10's improved efficiency would improve my netbook performance. Note: I already understand that netbooks are very limited to begin with. Just like mine for the things I use it for. Thanks

Have you already installed Win10? If so: Do you get a compatibility error before you install Win10? Regarding the missing driver: I know another user with a Netbook with GMA 3150. As soon as he replied me, I let you know if he could find a win10 driver. Edit: I received a feedback. The other user told me he use Win 10 pro 32bit. Win10 could find his own drivers.As you use 64bit, I can't tell you for sure if you also will find the driver automatically.

Shooting data not transfering with many pictures

I am using iPhoto 6.0.6 on OS 10.6.6
I have noticed that shooting data is missing from many pictures. I can import pictures in to iphoto and some will have the shooting data while others do not. Some times the dates are not right as well, but for some of these I know I did not have the date function on my camera activated. With the shooting data what is really confusing is that while I do not see it in iphoto the same pictures viewed with Preview have the data. Some times I even have to pull dates and data viewable in Preview for the purpose of organizing my pictures in iPhoto. Why does preview read this information while iPhoto often does not.
My pictures I am downloading from a card reader on to my desktop and then using the iPhoto Import to Library function to get the folders and pictures I need in to my library.

if that it is the case, then you are not set to sync with outlook.
that's why you are not seeing the items you wanted to see transferred after the hotsync process.
your data is now transferred to the palm desktop software which is located in your desktop.
if you will open it, you can see your data in there.
to set it to outlook, try going to Start>Programs>Palm>PIM Conduit Sync>Sync with Outlook.
if that option is not there probably you are using the software from the CD.
load the CD again and it will show GUI window in which you have to option to select which application you want to manage your data, palm desktop or outlook.
you choose outlook, just follow the onscreen instructions then finish. once you are done, check the custom settings of the hotsync manager and check if it now has the word outlook on it. once it's there, you can perform another sync. just cross your fingers that you will not encounter OLERR errors when syncing because that's common to outlook synchchronization. there are are so many causes and it's very long if put in details.
