Windows XP Professional 2002 problems

My XP computer was reset and now has no administrator, plus my screen is... well shattered and I can emit it on my TV, but it shows no SetUp window. Is it possible to factory reset it still?

Hi @XPieX ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Notebook and issues on startup. Try performing a hard reset. When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices.
If that does not help try to turn on the computer you start to press F11 repeatedly till the menu opens. You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook.
If you have the disks that came with the Notebook or Windows XP Professional , put the disk in the notebook it should offer you a repair. If not restore the Notebook. It won't hurt anything.
Hope this is helpful.
Thanks.

  • Windows XP Professional 2002 (without SP2)

So I was reading some of the Boot Camp guidelines and I know it's required for XP to have SP2, but I'm wondering if it's safe to install it if it just says "Version 2002"?
I heard about something called "slipstreaming", but I'm not sure if that's entirely safe, anyone know? The posts where I read about slipstreaming are about 2 years old so I'm not sure if it applies with my late 08 macbook pro..
    Thanks!

    Hi Rizzice,
slipstreaming the SP2 into an existing XP is quite easy when you follow the procedure described here: http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxpsp2slipstream.asp
Only downside of the slipstreaming process is, that you have to do it on a Windows PC running at least XP SP2 itself.
When you follow that procedure, the slipstreaming process is very safe.
    Hope it helps

So, after another evening of trawling the internet i found the following and decided it was worth a try
    http://randomwindowstips.wordpress.com/2009/12/08/windows-7-itunes-9-software-is -not-installed/
The following is taken straight from Aurelius, so huge HUGE thanks. (This works if you still have 10.6.3, failing that, if you know anyone that has the latest version, this is how i got this **** programme to actually work (or wait, as this will be updated shortly!!) I had at this point let everything install from Itunes installer and again had the rollback on the AMDS.
Copy the following folders from a working machine to your machine (apologies if you don't know anyone with a working copy, keep an eye on the link as it will be updated)
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
Next, type regedit into windows search and allow the programme to start. Go to the following address:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Apple Inc.\Apple Mobile Device Support]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Apple Mobile Device]
Right click and export the files. Next you need to copy them to your machine and double click them and allow to install. Restart and hopefully all is finally well (or it was on mine).
Good luck to anyone who finds this.

  • Oracle 9i R2 EE XP Professional Listener Problem

One embarrased Oracle DBA. I've successfully installed Oracle on so many windows platforms that I've lost track.
    The specs:
    Dell Inspiron 5100
Windows XP Professional 2002 SP 1
    2.66 GHz P4 CPU
    512 MB RAM
    1 GB Pagefile (swap)
    Macafee Virus Protection (disabled)
    Macaffee Firewall (disabled)
XP Firewall disabled in communication settings
Oracle 9i Release 2 EE base release
    Processes = 150
    Sessions = 170
shared_pool_size = 50 MB (tried setting as high as 150 MB)
I've tried every trick in the book
    1. Clean de-install, reinstall
    2. listener start with and without listener.ora
    3. Enabling and disabling MTS (shared server)
    4. LAN connection enabled (w/ appropriate parameters)
    5. Standalone mode (no networking) w/ appropriate parameters
    5. Increasing init.ora parms for memory, processes and sessions to ridiculous levels
    6. Different listener ports other than 1521
    7. deleting and recreating listener service
    8. deleting and recreating Oracle service (oradim)
    9. setting USE_SHARED_SOCKET in Oracle registry (in case the firewall was interfering with listener ports)
    10. setting TNS_ADMIN (not relevant since there is only one Oracle Home
    11. made sure ORACLE_SID was set in Oracle registry
    12. setting ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_HOME at the command line and restarting listener/database in command window
    13. Turning on listner and client tracing to admin level
    14. ad infinitem
Tracing didn't reveal anything meaningful. I was able to briefly get a connection working (connecting on the laptop via SQL*NET to the local database) using MTS for about 3 minutes then it started malfunctioning again.

  • Installation problem - Oracle 11gR2 Windows XP Professional SP 2

    Hello everybody!
I have a problem at the installation moment of Oracle 11g R2 on Windows XP Professional Edition with SP 2. Please help me!
This is my computer's hardware configuration:
    CPU Intel Pentium 4 3.00 Ghz x86
    RAM: 1 GB
    Hard disk: SATA 180 GB
    Graphic Card: PCI-Express nVidia 7300GS 256 MB
Network connection: LAN / Internet connection: ADSL
O.S. Windows XP Professional Edition SP 2 (and installed .Net framework 2.0)
    Antivirus: AVG 9.0 free edition
WEB Browser: Internet Explorer / Mozilla Firefox.
I tried to Install Oracle 11g R2 2 times, so I have formatted my computer 2 times because after the installation process, the Oracle Universal Installer don't respond.
Every time I installed the O.S., drivers, Antivirus, .Net Framework, Ms office, everything works properly.
I configured the network connection to use a fixed IP Address, I created the environment variables ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_UNQNAME (1st time its value was the same value of ORACLE_SID, 2nd time its value was the database global name) and then, I start the SETUP program, it run properly, but at the moment of finish the database creation this message appears: execute the commands: 1) define ORACLE_UNQNAME in database unique name 2) emctl.bat start dbconsole.
Through SQL Plus I can connect to the database, execute queries, the listener is working, but the database console service doesn't work. If I try to start it since command prompt (emctl start dbconsole) I get a message about the specific error 2.
    What can I do??
    Thanks in advance!

Good morning! I hope you are fine.
    I appreciate your help.
Jean-Valentin: I opened a DOS box (logged as the Administrator User who installed Oracle), I changed the ORACLE_SID value and the result of the commands:
    set ORACLE_SID=MGN
    emctl stop dbconsole
    emctl start dbconsole
    emctl status dbconsole
    was this one:
    C:\Oracle_base\Home_ODB11gR2_Aug1st2010\BIN>emctl stop dbconsole
OC4J Configuration issue. C:\Oracle_base\Home_ODB11gR2_Aug1st2010/oc4j/j2ee/OC4J_DBConsole_oraserver11_MGN not found.
Definitively, change the value of ORACLE_SID is not right. Then, I changed the ORACLE_SID again to its original value and the result was:
    C:\Oracle_base\Home_ODB11gR2_Aug1st2010\BIN>emctl stop dbconsole

The OracleDBConsoleMGN service could not be started.
A service specific error occurred: 2.
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3547.
Using the ORACLE_SID original name, at least the emctl shows the OracleDBConsoleMGN as not started when I try to stop.
schavali: When I executed the Oracle Installation, the database configuration assistant showed this message:
The Enterprise Manager configuration was success with this warning: Error at start up database control, execute the commands: and you know, here start our history.
And the 3 steps of the database configuration assistant shows this:
Copying database files : Success (correct mark)
Creating and starting up database instance: Success (correct mark)
Finishing database creation: Success (correct mark)
I'll try to check the information of the link: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/em.102/e10954/structure.htm#CACBBFGI
    and then, I write again.

Intel says there is a bug in oracle's OUI as well other swing based programs. The solution is to copy the CD to local drive and add -nojit as first parameter to JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS e.g. JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS="-nojit -mx32m"
This will enable OUI to run. Even after installing oracle Net80 conf. asst won't start due to same reason.
Go to HOME\admin\tools\ and edit netca.cl and netasst.cl to add same -nojit before -classpath.
Do this for every tool that gives this prob such DBA studio...

  • Problems after installing Windows 7 Professional on Thinkpad T61

I have an old T61 that had Windows Vista installed. I wanted to use Windows 7 but didn't want to wipe out what I already had (for various reasons). So I bought a new disk drive and did a clean install of Windows 7 Professional. The disk drive is a Western Digital Blue Notebook 1TB drive. After installing the drive in the machine, I followed these instructions to install Windows 7: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-74108. I chose to partition the drive into a C: drive (500GB) and a D: drive (431GB). After the install completed, I downloaded all the available Microsoft fixes (this took some time to complete).
For the Device Driver and Application install, I used the ThinkVantage System Update option. The site indicated that Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 with Service Pack 1 or later was required. I downloaded and installed version 4. There were additional Microsoft fixes for version 4, which I downloaded and installed also. Then I downloaded and installed ThinkVantage System Update 5.03. I then executed System Update and selected all the available updates. They all installed, except for Windows 7 Update Module KB2615763 64bit. This update, after failing, gave the option to install manually but when I click on that option I receive a pop up saying: Installer encountered an error: 0xc8000247. The title of the pop up says Windows Update Standalone Installer.
I then attempted to install various applications on the machine: FileZilla FTP Client, Google Chrome, Notepad++, PrimoPDF were all installed without problems. When I installed a Cisco VPN Client for 64 bit machines, however, I was knocked off the network. Clicking on the WiFi symbol in the task bar showed that I had only limited connectivity to the network. I tried to do a IPCONFIG /ALL  and neither the WiFi adapter nor the Ethernet LAN adapter showed up in the list. I uninstalled the VPN Client, from the Control Panel, and was immediately able to connect to the network. An IPCONFIG /ALL now showed all the network adapters. I installed/uninstalled the VPN Client several times just to make sure that it was causing the problem of no network connectivity.
I fgured that there might be updated network adapter drivers available to resolve the problem so I attempted both System Update and Windows Update again. System Update showed nothing available, except Windows 7 Update Module KB2615763 64bit. Windows Update had a message saying "Check for updates for your computer" but when I clicked on "Check for updates" it popped up a message saying "Windows Update cannot check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your machine." I checked and the Windows Update service is running. I stopped and restarted it but received the same message when I tried to check for updates again. I rebooted the machine and tried Windows Update again. Same pop up message.
I tried the "Fix problems with Windows Update" option in the Control Panel but received a message saying - An error occurred while troubleshooting: A problem is preventing the troubleshooter from starting. The error details say:
    Package ID: WindowsUpdateDiagnostic
    Path: Unknown
    Error Code: 0x8E5E0247
    Source: Engine
I tried some of the other troubleshooting options and they all give similar errors - An error occurred while troubleshooting: A problem is preventing the troubleshooter from starting.
I then thought it might be a disk drive problem so I tried to do a CHKDSK /F but when the machine reboots the CHKDSK seems to start (there is a message that says it can be interrupted by pressing a key within 10 seconds) then, before the 10 seconds are up, it ends without checking the disk and the machine continues to boot up.
Has anyone seen any of these problems before? Did I miss something? Could this be related to the disk drive? Or missing device drivers? Bios?
Any help with this will be appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

A laptop drive that size is almost certainly an AF drive.  You can check by looking up the model's specs on the vendor's site. You can also use the fsutil command to check the drive's physical sector size and verify that the size isn't getting reported correctly - which is what usually causes the update problem.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982018
Expand the "Issue 6 Fsutil.exe tool" entry in that link for more info.  The entire KB may also be helpful.
If my guess is actually the problem you won't have to reinstall Windows 7.  Just update - or roll back  - the driver.  You might first try going to Device Manager, selecting the storage controller, and rolling back to an earlier driver.
If that works, configure ThinkVantage System Update to not show the offending driver, or this will happen again.  If that doesn't do the job, go to Intel's site and find the latest Matrix Storage Manager or Rapid Storage Technology that is specified for your chipset and operating system.  Or just try the latest and if that doesn't work, try earlier ones.
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Software+Products&ProductL...
Here's a local KB addressing this (presumed) issue:  http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-7-Knowledge-Base/Windows-Update-Fails-After-Installing-New-Hard-...
To repeat, this is a bit of a guess.  It's pretty likely that your storage driver is the culprit.  Either you need one new enough to support the physical size reporting ioctl, or you've been bitten by TVSU "updating" to a buggy driver.  Either way the corrrect driver should fix things.

  • Drive Mapping problem in Windows 7 Professional

We have Windows 7 Professional 32 & 64 bit installed on clients and Windows server 208 R2 Domain.
Since a long time I am facing problem in mapping drives on clients. If I map from User Account under Active Directory, it shows the mapped drive, but if I try to map any other drive manually it asks username and password. If i provide username and password
it says Access Denied. The problem only occurs on user log-in not in Administrator's log-in. Even-if I make the user Administrator, the problem appears.
The surprising thing is that user has full rights on the shared folder and if accesses it by double clicking under user log-in, I can access it. I can make short cut of it, I can access by \\servername\sharename and \\serverip\sharename under user rights.
If I try to "Save As..." any file to that folder, it says Access Denied, but I can copy and paste it manually.
I have searched a lot on Google and tried several steps like changing registry, providing full access rights on registry, but no success. In new installation also the problem appears. I am not able to sorting out it is from Server side or Client side. There
is no update on Client PC, but on server we have regular updates.
If anybody has come across such problem and found any solution please help me to get rid of it.
    Thanks,
    Dhavall.

    Hi,
For permission settings, make sure that you have full control pemission on "NTFS"(security) and "sharing", from your description, seems that you only have a "read" permission on this shared folder, if you only have "read" permission, then you can successfully
create shortcut of this folder, access it but will get "Access Denied" when "Save as..." to that shared folder.
If you're an IT pro and want to deploy the mapped drive for many users, then you can follow this guide

The "System Tray" is located at the very bottom right of your screen and is a list of most/all running applications that will show in this list.
For your SysFader issue, this "may" be the problem:
1 Find the "My Computer" desktop icon and right-click it. A pull-down menu will appear. Select "Properties."
2 Click on the "Advanced" tab. This will load a new page of options.
3 Select the "Visual Effects" tab at the top of the window and deselect "Animate Windows when minimizing and maximizing," "Fade or slide menus into view," "Fade or slide Tool Tips into view" and "Fade out Menu items after checking."

  • Problem in installing Oracle 9i on Windows XP professional

I have completed a fresh installation of Windows Xp professional on my machine. The machine configuration is 261 RAM with 10 GB hard disk with NTFS partition and IE 6.
When I tried to install Oracle 9i Client on my machine, it gives me the following error:
The Java Runtime environment was not found at C;|Documents and Settings\Program Files\....\jrew.exe. Hence, the ORacle universal installer could not run.
    Plz help!

Down the Java Runtime from Sun
    That might solve it :)
If I recall, Java Runtime is not shipped with XP
