Windows XP running on iMac, USB Printer not detected on Windows
Hi all,
I'm pretty sure this is not a Mac issue, however I've been trying to understand this problem and I didn't find a proper solution, maybe some of you can help with that.
The situation is:
iMac running Mac OS X 10.4.10 working fine with a Xerox Printer 8550 connected with a USB cable, however, in the same system my colleague has a Windows XP installed with BootCamp, the problem is that Windows Xp cannot detect the USB printer, have you heard anything like that before?
Any help is welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Kind Regards
Alatryste
should be only driver problem?

Adobe Acrobat XI pro version, Windows 7, running on iMac parallels, converting pdf to a pdf with reduced size is not possible, error: error in converting the file! What to do? Its a bit annoying not to be able to store pdf files in reduced size, any idea?? Thanks, Jörg
Hi Jorg ,
Are you trying to reduce the file size with the "Reduced size PDF" in the save as other option.
Give it a try if you haven't done it prior.
Open that PDF>File>Save as Other>Reduced size PDF.
If possible ,please share the snapshot of the error message with us so that we can have a look in order to assist you further.

"USB Hardware Not Recognized by Windows"
Please help. I keep getting an error mssage "USB Hardware not Recognized by Windows" I believe i have tried it all. Uninstalled Itunes. Reinstalled Itunes.
Okay I just tried pluggin it in as I typed this and it worked. The only thing I did diffrent was I unplugged my External Back-up drive.
Is this Common? Can anyone help explain this to me?I have a combo floppy drive/USB 2.0 card reader and I believe I have the same problem.
I'm not over-clocking and while USB shows up in WinXP in device manager the card reader is not recognized by the system even though I KNOW I have it connected correctly. The floppy works fine.
I believe the 4 USB ports on the mobo are non-functional but can't test it until Thursday sometime.
Hopefully this is correctable with a BIOs update.
Anyone else have issues with the USB ports on the mobo and if so, were you able to fix it? How? -
WHAT TO PURCHASE FOR WINDOWS TO RUN OM IMAC
I need help on what to purchase for windows to run on imac?
Along with the edition, what you need to run (in Windows) and whether you need to run Windows natively and dual boot, or both dual boot and use a VM, need to be answered.
The more RAM and the better your cpu (new 2012? or older) and allocating say 80GB for Windows partition.
You do realize that most questions are answered on the support page:

IPod Touch, not detected in Windows or iTunes...
First of all, hello to everyone...
i want to say that i read a lot EVERYWHERE about my issue and still i couldnt find a solution...
the problem is easy, i have a 3rd gen ipod touch, OS 4.2.1 now fully working... but, it's not detected in windows or itunes, as simple as that, and as u all have read in lots of other posts...
my ipod is now working because i took it to an apple store and they charged it in a MAC and they had no problem at all. the MAC detected the ipod, with all its content and my ipod's name...
but when i took it home -this has been hapenning since maybe... 5 MONTHS!-, i plug it in my PC and nothing happens...
ok, first of all, my spec... win vista home premium 64 bits, last version of itunes...
i tried ALL the solutions provided in APPLE official support page, and nothing happens... that means:
1- completely uninstall itunes and then reinstalling it... i ALSO FORMATED my entire hard drive twice!!!!
2- tried all USB ports and even an entirely different PC and nothing happened
3- bought 3 different IPOD to USB cables and nothing happened
4- tried setting ipod to restore, that way itunes SOMETIMES detected the ipod but i coulnt restore because of different error codes, so i had to take it several times to apple store to "unblock" it...
the only way it works -detection and charge- is with MAC computers or dock systems such as an iHome my gf has thats the way im charging it now, but otherwise it wont work...
i would really appreciate any help, since idont know what else to do!!
thx in advance!!HI I was having some other problems getting my itouch to restore because it was not being recognized in itunes and kept erroring out. Now it has finally restored after I updated all kinds of drivers and removed and reinstalled itunes and apple software a million times,(yes this is all after installing itunes 8.1 and paying for an itouch upgrade as well) Now itunes says it cannot do anything with the ipod because it is getting an invalid response from the device. So it won't put anything back on my itouch or even show that I have plugged it in. I emailed tech support, If I find anything out I'll let you know, will you do the same for me?

Airplay not detected in windows 7 itunes.
Airplay not detected on windows itunes even after windows update. Security & windows firewall not an issue. Please assist in re-installing the airplay option in my windows 7 itunes.
I, too, have the same problem. I have read multiple posts, but nothing works. It all began with an iTunes update. Airplay, my ATV, home sharing, and Apple Remote all worked. Now, everything that is dependent on iTunes does not work.
They are all on the same network. I have checked it and changed it multiple times. My ATV retrieves photos from my Win 7 HP computer fine, but iTunes might as well not exist. The ATV won't see iTunes through home sharing. None of my AirPlay devices are recognized by iTunes. There isn't even the icon. Remote doesn't recognize the iTunes library either.
I have reinstalled iTunes several times. Shut down and restarted everything several times. On two occasions, it all worked for a short time, so I know it can work. But I can't replicate that, no matter what I do.
I have disabled Norton security (and updated it). No difference. I shouldn't have to remove it since it all worked before the iTunes update. That's why I believe it is an iTunes issue. It once worked. Everything else works. -

device_type: 'aSo Solaris 11.1 is supposed to support USB 3.0 and I think that may have something to do with it. I have two Gigaware 16GB USB thumb drives that work fine with 11.0 FCS but one of them fails under 11.1. Also not recognized but on occasion I can get /var/adm/messages to log something although most times it has nothing.
So I used a Windows utility to look at both of them and one of them has an older firmware version than the other. The older one doesn't work with 11.1 but the one with the newer firmware runs just fine. Made a nice excuse to upgrade one of them to 32 GB's.

USB Device Not Recognized on Windows 7 - USB mouse
I have a 4 week old Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7 Home premium that has developed an error: USB errors while trying to install a Microsoft USB mouse on this Laptop. Interestingly, my Microsoft USB Mouse installed perfectly first time and worked for about 2 weeks, and then failed. In looking at the system restore points, it tells me that there have been two driver updates to the USB environment since the unit was shipped from Dell. I wonder if an automatic update from Microsoft has somehow inadvertently updated or replaced a Dell factory driver.
Two nights ago I spent 45 minutes with Dell tech support doing remote control bug fixing on this laptop. They werent able to fix it (in the time allowed). They downloaded at least one of their newest drivers onto this machine and rebooted it - and they seemed pretty savvy - but still not working. So I went ahead a did a system restore to a point about 10 days back because I could see that a USB driver would be affected (as shown in the system restore menus), and I would like to compliment Microsoft on this very cool functionality!
At this point, I've unplugged the USB mouse , used the Device Manager to delete the 'unknown device', and done a system restore back to what I suspected was a working point. But still getting a 'Device not recognized' warning every few minutes, and still don't have a working mouse. I don't want to have to do system restores back to pprevious dates, although I suspect this is one solution.Hello,
I just wanted to let u know, I had this same issue for about 2 weeks. Basically what happened was a bad install of my AMD Chipset drivers. When I attempted to upgrade, the install didn't go all the way through.
I then restarted my system, and BAM! No Mouse or Keyboard functionality thru USB.
Even when I went into SAFE MODE the Mouse and Keyboard were not functional. The only time they worked was when the computer first attempted to start, BEFORE windows loaded.
So, this means that your issue is a software problem.
I thought it was some other software that I installed, and ran a restore session, but that wasn't the issue. Still no functionality.
I even tried removing my CMOS battery, to reset it, since some people said that had solved their problems...Still nothing.
I then read other forums around the web using my Android phone to try and find a solution, only those solutions were no help.
I was also advised to run: MSCONFIG and Hide all Windows programs and then stop every other driver, source from loading (of course if my mouse and kb worked, I would have tried that).
I had even read that because I was using USB, that I should try using a PS/2 Mouse and Keyboard connection.
It took me 2 weeks to get the correct PS2 adapter that worked, which would essentially allow me access to my system again...
I Purchased a USB A Female to PS2 (MDIN6) Male Adapter (for Mouse) from http://www.SFCable.com
This my friends, was a lifesaver. I only have one PS2 port on my system, so I used my mouse to try every option I had previously read about. Of course you cannot type because the keyboard doesn't work, so you need to know the location of the folder where
the programs you are trying to run are.
So, a little after I got back into my system, and I closed down all programs, the warning screen came up that ALL of my USB Ports failed and could not be updated. I even Uninstalled every last USB port from the System Properties and restarted, and still
that didn't work.
I had forgotten that during the time when this problem arose, there was a failed install of my AMD chipset drivers, so luckily I had not deleted the source file and I tried to reinstall, and VIOLA! I'm back up and running and my USB ports are restored
and everything is working!
I hope this solution is able to help other people out there.
Thanks,
JE - [email protected]
