Windows XP Service Pack 3 Installation Failure on new Mac Pro

I'm unable to install service pack 3 on the windows xp installation I have on my Mac. The error dialog says "additional 4 megabytes of storage required". The error is erroneous - there's 80 GB free on the windows C: partition where it is attempting to use during the installation process.
Google searches reveal that boot camp version 2.1 is required to install sp 3. I've already installed the boot camp drivers from my new machines OS X install disk (which was quite new at version 10.6.4). Presumably these boot camp drivers are version 3.1 or 3.2.
After the SP3 install failed, I tried downloading and install 2.1 (hoping to install SP3 then progress through the series back up to 3.2). The 2.1 boot camp installer does nothing when run. Perhaps it's logging some info somewhere but I don't know where in windows to find it.
Boot camp 3.2 requires 3.1 as a pre-req. Boot camp 3.1 says the installation of 3.0 is required as a prerequisite. I can't find a copy of 3.0 out there on Apple's site.
I know XP is old but I don't dare run it without SP3 as there are at least dozens of security fixes in that patch if not hundreds.
Google searches also turned up that there is a fabled registry fix that will get rid of the "4 megabytes required" error but I wasn't able to find the specifics of that registry fix anywhere.
Any suggestions out there ?

Trouble with SP3 are numerous, though not 100%, sometimes it just wipes out an entire drive.
On Mac Pro, you have to remove all the other drives before starting the install.
Rather than XP, there is Windows 7 which has more and better security.
Ignore Boot Camp 2.0, the "or later" should be in there and of course Macs come with 3.0.x anyway.
You can't install any drivers that affect Windows until after Windows is up and running.

  • Windows XP Service Pack 2 Installer

So I have a relatively simple application.  I it just reads and writes CAN data using a Vector CANcase USB CAN device, and these drivers.  I developed the source in LabVIEW 2012 SP1 in Windows 7 x64.  I built the EXE and it works fine, I then made an installer.  Under the Additional Installers I only included the NI LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 2012 SP1 f9.  I unchecked all the components under it because I knew I didn't need them.
I tested the installer on my XP SP3 machine and it worked great.  Then another user wanted the software and had XP SP2.  I tried the installer and it said it requires XP Service Pack 3 or newer.  So I opened the project I used to make the installer, and under the "System Requirements" it already had the oldest option selected which was Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later.
My solution is to update the PC and it is in the process of doing that right now.  So for me this is fixed, but is this an issue? And anyone else that sees this issue you aren't crazy.

If 10 out of 10 experts in any field say something is bad, you should probably take their opinion seriously.

Yes, I've had the same problem. I believe it had something to do with .NET (on which some NI components rely?) only being supported by XP SP3.
If you read here - it mentions that the latest service pack may be required for some operating systems.
The one thing that is weird is that the 2012 LV Runtime apparently supports all service packs of XP but the 2013 Runtime only supports SP3. Actually, looking at the download page for the 2012 SP1 F9 runtime it says it only supports XP SP3 so during one of the updates they must have changed the minimum requirement.
Maybe you could try installing an older version of the LV2012 runtime which works with SP2?

  • Windows 7 Service Pack 1 installation

    HI,
When i deploy Service Pack1 for windows 7 via SCCM, it gets installed in client machines. But when they restart, they are not getting the message "windows 7 service pack 1 is now installed" while logging in. But OS version is changed and in the
ARP, it shows the entry. When i login in the same machine (my ID has admin rights), this message is showing up.
Problem is when i target this machine in IE 9 collection, it is not getting deployed till the time i login in the client machine and click close in the message box. please suggest me what we should do to resolve this.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    Raja

How did you deploy the SP1? via SUP or Software Distribution? What version does the System Properties show if you use the normal user's credential to open it? If it does show Windows 7 with SP1. It means the SP1 is installed successfully.
I assume the pop-up is just a reminder to tell us the SP1 finishes installing and somehow it needs admin or system account credential so that the normal user cannot see it.

  • Power failures with new Mac Pro. Urgent HELP!!

Hi, I just bought a Mac Pro 2.66, with two 20" viewsonic LCV monitors.
I am having a problem which happens already twice, after the computewr goes to sleep, when waking up it provoques a power failure in my apartment.
I first thought I was overloading the power outlet, since I had 2 more computers and peripherals all conected to the same one, so I changed and connected all my new peripherals and computer to an extension of an outlet from another room.
But this didn't solve the problem, it happened again yesterday, even when all the lights at my place where turned off. I live in a new building, so I don't think is a problem with the electricity circuit.
Does anyone know why this might be happening? What is weird to me is that is happening only when the computer wakes up, and not for example when turning it on.
I am thinking in buying a UPS, but this will not solve my problem now.
Also, how bad is for the computer when this happens?
    Thanks

While your building may be new the electrical circuits may not be as you'd expect. Just because you connected things in another room does not mean they're on another circuit and another fuse. Unfortunately you're not the first one that's had this problem. It's not common but does happen.
So what happens with only one display on and no peripherals on (apart from your keyboard/mouse)?
By the way, do you mean the whole apartment goes out or just the one cirucit?
I am thinking in buying a UPS, but this will not solve my problem now.
It would if you went out and bought one now.
Also, how bad is for the computer when this happens?
With respect to hardware, there should be little chance of damage. However, on a software front it could do great damage.

    Hi,
Do you have any other antivirus or antispyware programs installed? Make sure to temporarily turn off them.
Run Troubleshootor under Action Center\Troubleshooting\System and Security, and see if we can find something useful.
Run sfc/scannow and check if can fix something.
Or try to clear the softwaredistribute folder, then test issue again.

  • Rescue And Recovery Installation On Clean Install Of Windows XP Service Pack 2

    Hey,
I have recently purchased a refurbised IBM ThinkPad T40 2373-82M laptop computer. When I received the computer it did not have any recovery partition or recovery CD's that came with it. I then installed my own personal copy of Windows XP Service Pack 2 on the machine and installed drivers and applications individually by downloading them off the Lenovo support website. However, I have attempted to install the latest version of the ThinkVantage Rescue And Recovery Program (Version 4.20) on my computer but I end up with the following error: 'There is not enough free space on the computer to install or upgrade the Rescue and Recovery environment'. When I did a full clean install on the system I deleted all partitions that were on the computer at the time during the Windows XP installation and made a single NTFS partition. There were two 20GB partitions on the hard drive when I bought it, but neither of them were the IBM Rescue and Recovery partition. Could it be possible for me to install this software on my laptop, and make a Rescue and Recovery partition, now and make it the same way it would of been when it left the IBM factory?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
    Ash.

HP UFT 12.02 is not installing on Windows 7 Service Pack 1. But the Install Guide says it supports and recommends Windows 7 Service Pack 1 as the Operating System.

    Hey Hello Dear,
Please upgrade UR windows 7 Service pack to Service pack 2.
from my knowledge for SQL SERVER 2012 it requires Windows 7 service pack.
And before installing SQL server 2012 Plz activate .NET framework for that,
Put UR windows 7 Format CD then,
Run Command prompt as Administrator and paste following cmd in that
    DISM.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /All /Source:c:\net35 /LimitAccess
it will take 2 min. after that restart your PC and try to install SQL server 2012.
Note: Before installing SQL SERVER again format UR PC/lapy once.
After this if it gives error while installation then plz change ur setup and try again.
    This will be helpful.

  • Can't update AIR application on Windows XP service pack 3

We've run into another AIR update issue with our AIR 2.0.4 sidecar product.
Our application uses the standard ApplicationUpdater.checkNow() method to look for and download updates. Just such an update was issued recently, and one of our team members has reported an issue attempting to download the new update on a Windows XP service pack 3 machine.
They are getting an Error 16818.
    Thanks for any insight.

    Hi,
Error 16818 is "IO error while saving data to disk".  Is there any way we could get the installer log from this machine?  It might give us additional clues.
    Thanks,

  • How can I install my Adobe Photoshop on my computer with Windows XP Service Pack 3?

How can I install my Adobe Photoshop on my computer with Windows XP Service Pack 3?  Seriously frustrated.  I put the disc in the drive and nothing happens.  I open up add/remove programs and I get an error message stating it can't find a disc.  I chatted with Adobe support, and they decided to send me here. Probably because they knew I wanted to spend all day online trying to figure this out.

  • MXI-3 blue screen when updating to windows 2000 service pack 3 or 4

I have na host computer with windows 2000, and a PXI chassis connected through MXI-3 (cooper wires). I have a 6025E, a 5102, a 5112, a pickering DMM, and two pickering switch-cards in it. Updating windows is not possible. It didn't work months ago when windows 2000 service pack came out and it doesn't work now with windows 2000 service pack 4 -Blue screeen of death is the verdict!
Any ideas about the posible problem and a cure?
    Scientia est potentia!

    Hi Magvar,
The first thing we need to determine is the cause of the problem. Right now, I see two possible causes. First, the problem could be with the OS on your computer. Second, the problem could be with the MXI-3 interface. In order to determine which is causing the blue screen, I recommend removing the PCI-MXI-3 board from the computer before you install the service pack. If the service pack will successfully install, then we know the problem was with the MXI-3 board. You can then try to reinstall the board. If the installation is not successful, then we know the problem is not connected with the MXI-3 system. In that case, you may need to contact Microsoft for further assistance.
