Windows XP SP3 disk on Mac ox leopard

Hello,
I have recently aquired a new windows xp sp3 disk to install via bootcamp on my white macbook.
However, I have noticed people are having problems installing sp3 from sp2. Does the same apply, if I have a brand new sp3 disk and install it on bootcamp 2.0? Which programmes or steps will I need to follow, to correctly set up the xp sp3 diskon my mac?
Do I need the sp2 disk, before sp3 to install windows XP prof correctly.
Thank you for your help,
hathj29

Just to clarify, can I use my Windows xp Proffesional disk service pack three to install in bootcamp 2.0 or do I need SP2 before I update to service pack three?

  • Windows XP SP3 for my mac book pro

I want to know if i can install windows XP SP3 on my mac book pro ( new one from yesterday) version 10.6.7 ?

    No See here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4410
You could use a VM like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox to install XP SP3.

  • Windows XP OEM Disk and 10.5 Leopard

I just bought an OEM copy of Windows XP Home with SP2 with the intention of installing it on my MBP using the BootCamp Beta...
Forgive me cause I dont know too much about what OEM even means...
Anyway, when Leopard comes out and I upgrade to 10.5, I'll have then have the non beta version of Bootcamp.
BUT...Will I be able to use my OEM copy of Windows XP again (that I used for the 10.4 beta) or do you think its gonna say tough luck...you only get one install?

The way the XP copy protection works, is that it creates a number based on serial numbers on your hardware when you install. As long as you don't install it on another computer, you should be able to reinstall Windows XP as many times as you want. After a few times, you will probably have to call their customer support to have it activated manually, though.

  • A few red flags before Windows XP SP3 Installation

    Hi,
I am pretty much ready to install Windows XP SP3 onto my Mac Book Pro with Leopard (OS X 10.5.8), or at least I thought I was. A couple issues I've ran into before installation are the following; I've read that the installation of Boot Camp 2.1 (I have 2.0) is required before installing Windows XP Service Pack 3, however the Boot Camp update (BCUpdateXP.exe) is an exe file which I currently cannot open on Mac OS X. I found another topic mentioning to install the BC update after installing Windows, but this is contradicting. Is there a way to install this update file either through a dmg (which I could not find) or some sort of exe reader/expander?
Another issue is the 'Macintosh Drivers CD', or lack thereof. I know the official Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide states to use either the Mac OS X Leopard disc or the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 for the driver installation, but in other tutorials it states you can have the option to create a 'Macintosh Drivers CD' or DVD within the initial Boot Camp stages (I have a hunch this was only for the beta version(s)). I don't have the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 on me, so I was wondering if there is any other way to make the drivers cd in order to install the proper Boot Camp drivers for Windows.
The last resort is somehow obtaining the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 and Windows XP SP2 (funny how it says in the Setup Guide that Service Pack 2 is required for installation, and later on it says the same thing 'or later.')
Any comments or suggestions will be helpful.
    Thanks in advance.
    Brendan

Basically, SP2 is the MINIMUM any Boot Camp version will install. It has to be on the Installer disk as part of XP. You can't add SP2 later. Upgrading from SP2 to SP3 isn't supported by BootCamp 2.0 so you need to update to 2.1 or later.
If you already have Window XP-SP2 already installed on the HD then all you have to do is just update Boot Camp while booted into Windows. Control Panel/Scheduled Tasks/AppleSoftwareUpdates and it should update everything for you. If not then download 2.1 and install it on the Windows side.

"""Note: This download contains complete copies of Boot Camp Windows XP Drivers (version 2.1). If you have Boot Camp drivers already installed, it will update them. If you do not have any Boot Camp drivers installed, it will install version 2.1 drivers _onto your already installed Windows OS_."""
Boot Camp is actually a Windows program, it installs all the Apple hardware drivers for Windows to use.

  • Mac Pro missing "Create Windows 7 Install Disk"

Okay well when i try to use bootcamp as i already bought a copy of windows 7. The Create Windows 7 Install Disk option is not there for me. In every tutorial to setup bootcamp has had that option. Is my bootcamp messed up or did i do something wron? Specs: 2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 6GB 1066Mhz OS X 10.8.2 Thanks

Your Mac Pro must be newer than a Mac Pro 5,1, and must have a minimum ROM version in order to use the USB installer you are looking for.  If your machine is older, or doesn't have the correct ROM versions, then you need to use the "old fashioned" disc install method....

  • Accessing physical floppy disk drive from Windows 8.1 host machine to Windows XP SP3 hyper-v?

    Hi there!
Could someone help up me? I just wanted to ask if it's possible for a hyper-v to access a physical "floppy diskette" drive?
Here's my setup: I have a Windows 8.1 as my host and Windows XP SP3 as the virtual machine. I would need to access the contents of the physical floppy diskette drive from the Windows XP SP3 vm. This is needed, because, currently our customer is still using
floppy disk drives, to most of their in-house applications. I tried to open Drive A: inside Windows XP SP3 VM while the physical diskette from the Windows 8.1 is inserted. But then again, it cannot directly access the contents. Also, I tried to use "virtual
floppy drives" and copy the files from the diskette. But for some reason, their applications do not support it. I did check device manager in Windows XP SP3 vm, but i cannot see the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" option inside the VM.
    Please help!!! Thank you!
    All the best,
    MS CAMPer

HI Carey, thanks for this, But this is under System Center Virtual Machine Manager. I already saw this a while ago.
Anyway, is there a way for Windows XP VM to access a physical floppy diskette drives inserted to Windows 8.1 host machine? I dont intend to use Virtual floppy disks. Only Physical ones.
Please please. Need your help guys! :( Thank you!

    Hi,
how much diskspace did you assign to the Windows partition ?
And did you do the reformating of the WIndows partition as described on pages 8-10 of the BootCamp Installation Guide ?
In your first post you mentioned 'fully install' twice. Any chance that the XP disc you use is an Upgrade disc and not a full retail/OEM one ?
Check with the label on the disc because such XP upgrade disc are not useable with BootCamp.

  • Imac not booting, Able to get to disk ulility with snow leopard disk.  Tap on had disk, not given choice to do anything.  Information list that smart is certified and partition map is us formatted.  How do I get mac to start up again?

Imac not starting up, keep getting white screen.  Using snow leopard.  Able to get to disk utilities with snow leopard installation disk.  Tap on had disk, not given choice to certified disk or anything else.  Information on disk states that smart status is certified.  Partition map I formatted.  Also tried to restore from back up, but get error:  not enough disk space.  Tried to erase disk, but unable.  What do I do next to get mac to start up?

Thank you. That's what I thought will need to happen.
One more question. I tried using the Apple install disk that came with the computer. It's an OS 10.5.6 disk. It does not see my 10.6.8 system internal hard drive to repair. All it see's is itself 10.5.6 disk. Do you think I can use a 10.8+ disk utillity since that is a higher system it will see the 10.6.8. Where the 10.5.6 does not?
I don't want to turn the computer off for fear I'll get the question mark again. P-Ram got me going last time but for how long I don't know?  It would be nice to be able to turn the computer off for the night and startup as usual to give it a rest and try to reset itself.
Thanks for your help, I know I will eventually need to re-install. But I am in the middle of a project with tight deadlines and all I can do right now is back-up. Trying to migrate to another computer temporarily to finish the job. That's a lot of extra work in the short time also.
Just trying to put a band-aid on it for another couple weeks.

  • WIndows XP/Vista can not recognize shared folder on Mac running Leopard

    Hi,
I have problem with sharing file from my Mac running Leopard to my Windows machine (running XP and Vista). I follow the instruction on this website. http://lifehacker.com/software/mac-os-x-leopard/leopard-simplifies-networking-31 7033.php
My Windows machine 'see' the Mac. When i double-click or press enter on the Mac comp icon on my windows machine, I do not get any confirm box to enter username and password. Instead, I am allowed to view the content which is empty ( although I enabled some shared folder on my Mac)
Any suggestion to solve the problem pls .

If your Mac Pro has FileVault on, your Windows XP machine will not be able to access the files, as FileVault disables SMB and printer sharing for Windows XP clients.
In case FileVault is not on, you could try temporarily disabling the Windows firewall and the anivirus and/or internet security suite on the WinPC, and see whether it can access the files on your Mac Pro.
    Good Luck.

  • Installed Elements 12 and need to uninstall Elements 5.  Do not have Elements 5 disk.  Windows XP SP3

I recently installed Photoshop Elements 12 and need to uninstall Elements 5.  I am using Windows XP SP3 and when I go to "add or remove programs" and select remove, it asks me to use the original disk which I am unable to find.  I would like to do a clean uninstall.  Is there some type of tool or program?  Please be explicit.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You don't have to uninstall Boot Camp 4 drivers before installing Boot Camp 5 drivers. Boot Camp 5 drivers will simply overwrite Boot Camp 4 drivers, so you don't have to uninstall old drivers before installing new ones and making that process easier

  • How to fix bookmark icons from reappearing in new browser windows despite having bookmark deiconizer enabled (Mac Snow Leopard/Firefox 20.0).

Ever since Firefox upgraded to 20.0, my enabled deiconizer doesn't work when I open a new browser window. Using Mac/Snow Leopard.
I want those bookmark toolbar icons to disappear permanently! They are nothing but clutter.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think my next move is to contact Mozilla/FireFox to complain about this change and see if it can be fixed. If not, then I'll probably just switch to Safari. I lose patience with companies/programmers who do things like this. When I had programmers reporting to me (before I retired a few years ago), I would never let them get away with this sort of nonsense. User flexibility was a requirement.

  • HT1926 I am running Windows XP SP3 at first running after Install - splash screen cannot be removed so that I can start to import disks.  Stanley

I am running Windows XP SP3. Every time I go to the "Music" category so that I can Import CDs and then subsequently play my music, the Tutorial Splash Screen gets in the way and I cannot seem to get rid of it...Since I like iTunes 9 layout - that is the one that I dowloaded and installed.  Help please the Splash Screen is "bugging me"

    Many thanks.
With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

  • Need Bootcamp 2.1 for Windows XP SP3

I installed SP3 on my windows partition and it boots up but the drivers will not install. So I found out I need boot camp 2.1 to use SP3. I need 2.1 to install 2.2, and I need snow leopard to install 3.0. How do I fix this? How can I find Boot Camp 2.1? NOT the 2.1 XP drivers, but the actual Boot Camp 2.1 software so that I can create the partition using 2.1.

I believe that there is just one version of that actual Bootcamp 2 and it is Boot Camp 2.0 that came with your Leopard disk. It includes the Boot Camp 2.0 Windows Drivers. As far as I can tell there is no such thing as Boot Camp 2.1 ro 2.2. Unfortunately, you will find people mixing the terms for Boot Camp and Boot Camp Windows Drivers. There are two updates available for the Boot Camp 2.0 Windows Drivers. You can find them at
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/bootcampwindowsx pdriversupdate21.html
    and
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/bootcampdriversu pdate22forwindows.html
The 2.1 Update actually can be used as a install directly onto BootCamp without the Apple Drivers. The 2.2 Update must have the 2.1 Update already installed.
Boot Camp 3.0 is only for OSX 10 Snow Leopard. At least, that's what I've been told on this discussion group. In any case, you can only get it on a Snow Leopard install disk.
I just went through **** and Back installing Boot Camp 2 on my Mac Book Pro. See the thread in this discussion group at
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2292702&tstart=0
to give you some background on the problems that I was having and the entry I made yesterday to describe the workaround that I was able to find.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2299567&tstart=0
There are Video Adapter problems. Mine was with the Radeon X1600 driver. I don't know whether there are similar problems with other video drivers.
You have an additional problem that I didn't in that you have tried to install the Boot Camp 2.1 Driver Update onto a pre-existing Windows XP SP3. I can't help you with that directly, but I did see a very interesting website during my troubleshooting that I think may help you out at
    http://www.macwindows.com/bootcamp.html
There is actually a tip there labeled
"Boot Camp 2.1 and Windows XP SP3
TIP: Fixing Win XP if you accidentally install SP3 before Boot Camp 2.1"
Good Luck. I hope you can solve your problems with less pain than I had to go through.
