Windows XP to 10.8.2 Server

Am I missing something obvious?
I cannot get my Windows XP SP3 Desktops to see and connect to my Mac OS X 10.8.2 Server.
Mac's connect fine to smb://192.168.1.60/data and use the username and password logins fine for all clients.
I expect it may be the whole Windows XP Map-Drive thing, I've never been good at that.
//macserver/data   ?
Thank you,

OK, so now I CAN access the 10.8.2 Server from Windows XP SP3 ...
Using the vaues for 'Map network Drive'
Drive: Z
Folder: 192.168.1.60\data
   NOT
      \\192.168.1.60\data
   NOT
      \\macserver\data
But it will not accept the username and password and gives a 'network drive error' in Windows XP
But if I set on the OS X Server 'Allow guest users to access this share' I get Guest Access
And when I turn that off'Allow guest users to access this share' I still get:-O :-(

So that just indicates that you erased the OS X partition also

    Install OS X again
Then using BootCamp create a partition for Windows
Then install Windows into that partition

The first AAA server listed in your config will always be used unless/until it becomes unavailable. At that point the NAD would move down to the next AAA server defined on the list and use that one until it becomes unavailable and then move to third one, and so on.
If you want to use two AAA servers at the same time then you will need to put a load balancer in front of them. Then the virtual IP (vip) will be listed in the NADs vs the individual AAA servers' IPs.

  • Problem synchronizing windows clients with solaris 10 NTP server

    Hello everyone,
I realyy need help on the following:
I tried to synchronize windows 2003 as client with NTP server running in Solaris 10
My Time Zone in the NTP server is GMT+3, and in my windows is also set to GMT+3
When I start NTP server and clients , I got 6 hours delay between the clients and the server
I tried to synchronize the Solaris server with another solaris system, the synchronization is working fine
    Your help
    Regards
    Hakim Fourar

True (but only for later releases). But since he mentioned getting a 6 hour offset after starting them, that makes me think that the systems are communicating, and that the time zones are incorrect.
This is easily verified by using 'ntpq -p' and 'date ; date -u'. The first will show if the client thinks it is synchronized to a server (and what the UTC offset is in miliseconds). The second will show the date in the default timezone and in UTC.
If you're not using POSIX, you'd think that GMT+XX meant east of UTC, but for POSIX, it means west of UTC.

  • Apply monthly Windows 2008 r2 updates within SQL Server 2008 cluster

Hello is applying Windows updates within 2 node SQL Server 2008 cluster (active-passive) as simple as download/install the windows update on the passive node, then failover, then apply on other node, and then fail back over ?...or are there other needed/recommended
    steps ?  Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply Shanky_621 much appreciated.
In your link provided http://support.microsoft.com/kb/174799 it looks like the steps order is slightly different from this link of
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731291.aspx which mentions...
"...where the recommended sequence is to move all services and applications off of the node, pause the node, then apply software updates to the node."
...does it matter which is done first ('Pause' or 'move Services/Application') or can I simply go to the Passive node (say 'B' where there are no Services or Applications currently on it), 'Pause' it, apply the Windows updates, then 'Resume' it, &
    reboot ?

  • Domain Controlling: Windows XP Machine to Mac OSX Server

We have a Mac OSX 10.6 Server and it runs our DNS and we want it to serve as a PDC, We are trying to connect a windows computer to it. When setting the windows computer to the specified domain it prompts for the Username and Password which is correctly entered and accepted, however it loads an error afterwards saying "specified domain does not exist or could not be contacted".
Any idea's? Would this be something to do with an SRV record?
It is the correct username and password as it definately aithenticates - When we type an incorrect password it tells us that it is incorrect. Also, the network firewall is open.
    Any response appreciated,
    Thanks.

  • HP Proliant ML360 Server: How hard would it be to install Windows 2012 R2 on an older server like this one?

    Hello,
I am an it tech in need of some help. I don't mess with our servers that often, and I could use some guidance in setting up this particular machine. We would like to use this server with 2012 R2 for Michigan M-step caching machine, and possibly setting up
a ticket system for maintenance, and technology repairs. This server was configured before I got here, and I would like to delete the current novell software and Server 2003, and start over fresh. Is there a manual that you could recommend, or a step by step
instruction guide that will show me the correct steps to take. I have watched youtube videos, read different articles, however they really didn't give me the information that I am looking for to set up this server. Any help you can give me would be greatly
    appreciated!!
    Thank you,
    Angie

The very first thing you need to determine is if the ML360 is a 32-bit or 64-bit server.  If it is 32-bit, it's a no-go.  Windows Server 2012 is 64-bit only.
The next issue is installation media.  Does the ML360 have a DVD or CD reader?  2012 R2 comes on DVD.  It's possible to install from USB, but that's if the system supports it.  Does the ML360 support booting from USB?
Yes, the smart start capability is neat, but it is generally geared to a specific release of an operating system for a server that supports that operating system.  The ML 360 is old enough that smart start may not work on it.
I would go out to HP.com and download all the latest drivers for the ML360 and put those on a CD.  I would also get the latest BIOS/Firmware.  Make sure the system is updated to the latest BIOS/Firmware.
Before trying to give any further suggestions, it would help to know exactly what you have.

  • Need Help Binding Windows Xp clients to 10.5 server for a beginner

    Hi
I've setup 10.5 server as a standard config. Which turns out it is a Open Directory Master and SMB role is Standalone Server.
I have been able to bind my 10.4 clients to the server domian using Directory Access and choosing automatic under LDAPv3/config.
So far the Macs are working well.
But I need to get the PC XP workstations on board. Where in XP do I have to go to enter in the info for the server to bind the clients to it? All this is new to me and still learning. The server is pretty basic. Authenticating users and giving them access to the shares.
    Thanks
    Steve

    Hi Dave
Thanks for the tips. I was wondering if you could help me out some more? I have never done any binding on the PC. Macs seem quite easy. I'm having trouble taking the info I have on the Mac and applying it to the correct input on the PC's. Bare with me. I think I am almost there.
I did not have the diradmim account set up. But I do now.
Now I have gotten to my computer/properties/system properties/Computer name
I clicked on the Change button near bottom right
Now I am at this new window.
Computer name: I can put anything I want in here?
Member of: I should check Domain and enter the domain of the server?
(currently in my smb settings on the server I have workgroup set to WORKGROUP. Does this need to change?)
Last question I think. You mentioned the diradmin account on 10.5. Where do I enter this info on the PC.
Sorry for all the questions but having this info would help and get me where I need to be.
    Thanks
    Steve

  • User cannot access redirected Documents folder, but can connect to share in Windows Explorer and access folder on server

I am in the final stages of a cross-forest migration.  Users have Windows 7 workstations with redirected folders on a Windows Server 2012 box running in the old forest.  User accounts were not migrated.  The accounts in use have always
been in the "new" forest.  One of our challenges was the large volume of data in redirected folders.  I made sure users in the target forest had continued to have access to their redirected folders in the old forest and robocopied
the entire users share, copying the permissions with the files.  By doing incremental robocopies, we can get a final copy done now in about six hours.  The plan was simple: copy the files, do an incremental copy every night, on the night of the cutover
change the folder redirection policy Documents path from
    \\oldserver\users\%USERNAME% to
\\newserver\users\%USERNAME%. The policy is configured to NOT copy user files from the existing folder to the new redirected folder.  Everything was going well until I tested the policy change.  After the folder redirection policy is updated
and applied, the user cannot access the private Documents folder.  For example, user Chester Tester logs on as ctester.  I open Windows Explorer and click the Documents shortcut.  I see one subfolder, which is subfolder of Public Documents.
So I can look at Public Documents but when I click on the Documents folder (Under the Documents library link) I get an access denied error.  Now for the kicker, if I open another Windows Explorer window and edit the address bar to
\\newserver\users\ctester, I can navigate the Documents folder tree and see my thousands of documents. What the ....?
I'm hoping this is something really simple to fix!
    TIA

    HI Vivian,
Thank you for your reply.  Yes, the path in Group Policy Folder Redirection Root Path was updated to
\\NEWSERVER\users.  I had planned to point this to the distributed file system, so the first used was actually
\\domain\dfs\users.  To simplify things I have backed off to copying to just a normal share
    \\newserver\users.
We are using BASIC folder redirection and we create a folder for each user under the root path.
We did not want the policy to move content, as we were seeing users requiring 15-20 minute logon times  (or higher) after the policy is changed.
Grant the User exclusive right to Documents - Disabled
Move the contents of Documents to the new location - Disabled
    Related folder settings
    Video - Follow Documents
    Music - Follow Documents
    Pictures - Follow Documents
Now when I change the folder redirection from old server to new server I now have TWO My Documents folders in the user's redirection folder on the server.  The redirected Documents points to an empty folder set.  The copied folders with all user
data are there, but folder redirection refuses to recognize the original folder.
I am looking at the full view of the folder, nothing hidden, so I'm wondering how a folder can have two subfolders with the exact same name.  For now, I just want the redirection to move from the old server to the new server properly.  I deleted
the new My Documents folder, rebooted the user's workstation and tried again.  The behavior repeats itself, i.e., a new My Documents folder is always created when the redirection policy is changed from the old server to the new server.  The environment
has about 1500 users with approximately 1.3TB of data in the redirected Documents folders.  OUCH!

  • Can't Windows 7 access an RD on Server 2012 that uses SHA512/2048-bit certificates

I have a Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop that works fine if configured with the self-signed certs (SHA1/2048-bit), but not with certs from our internal CA.
With the self-signed certs, our remote clients can connect but of course get security warnings due to the untrusted certificates.  The clients do trust our root CA, so we should be able to eliminate those by using certs from our internal CA instead.
However, when I do configure the Server 2012 R2 RD to use certs generated on our internal CA (SHA512/2048-bit) clients (Windows 7) cannot open RDP sessions.  They get errors and on server event log contain:
(Source: Schannel; Event ID: 36874)  [sic] An TLS 1.2 connection request was received from a remote client application, but none of the cipher suites supported by the client application are supported by the server. The SSL connection request has failed.
(Source: Schannel; Event ID: 36888)  A fatal alert was generated and sent to the remote endpoint. This may result in termination of the connection. The TLS protocol defined fatal error code is 40. The Windows SChannel error state is 1205.
The strange thing is that if I connect from client on Server 2008 R2, it can open RDP session!!!
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Indicates by the event, it seems that the Cipher Suites use by the client are disabled on the server.
