Windows XP to Windows 7 move of iTunes

I'm trying to move my iTunes library from an older desktop tower running Windows XP to a new small laptop running Windows 7. Over the years I've kept a USB hard drive in sync with the desktop holding a back up of the folder simply called iTunes. (contained all the media plus library, playlist, etc.. databases). Using the back up, I managed to get everything moved over. But now as I open iTunes in my new laptop, I see all my music, playlists, ratings, everything almost as if the laptop is taking it from where I left off in the desktop. Only, every item has an exclamation point marked to indicate the file cannot be found. It looks like a simple step I missed or have yet to take. I'm afraid that if I go "Add Folder To Library" and make iTunes look in the Music folder, my library will display everything twice and with ratings only on the non-functional listing. Obviously I'm not quite doing it right. I did this all correctly one other time after a computer crash, only by accident. Hope someone can help.
Thanks,
Eric

  • Transfer Windows Live Movie to ITunes.

I have created a movie using Microsoft Live Movie Maker which has been saved on my PC as a (*wmv) file. When I try to copy to ITunes is comes up with a barred sign. As far as I can see the file is not protected.

iTunes supports only mov, m4v and mp4 formats.  You need to get a third party software to convert.

Instead of removing the music from the cloud or the iTunes library why not shuffle your music using a Smart Playlist which excludes the holiday music, or tracks that are not checked. For example, use this very simple Smart Playlist:

  • HT1349 I have a laptop computer with Windows 7, powered intel core i7. I am trying to download a  purchased movie from ITunes. I am on wifi g.  Why is it taking 17 hours to download a simple movie? This is nuts!

Question:  Why when downloading a purchased movie from ITunes does it take 8 to 17 hours to download?  I have an HP Laptop with Windows 7 using a core processer i7.  This is the second day to try to get the movie downloaded and I still cannot watch this movie.  Seems like a problem with ITunes or a scam. I use a IPhone 4 with little issues, But when using this lap top -- it is a joke.

First thing to do is get the CC off your system.  Then try the direct download option linked below...
You can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

  • How to move my iTunes library from Windows PC to new Mac

I have been using a PC running Microsoft Windows 7 64 bit for the last 12 months or so. I have now purchased a Mac. I want to move my iTunes library from the PC to the Mac.
The PC setup is running the latest version of iTunes for Windows, however, the music etc. is not stored in the default location, instead it is stored on an external HDD (it's approximately 700GB, so too large to have on the internal HDD).
Anyone know the best/easiest way to make the switch and in doing so maintain all my playlists etc.?

So, what I have done so far to try to achieve this is:
I have my Windows PC with it's NTFS formatted external HDD containing the music etc.
I have my Mac with a new external HDD formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    On the Windows PC:
    * I opened up iTunes.
    * Went into Preferences, and then under the Advanced tab I checked both 'Keep iTunes Media Folder Organised' and 'Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library', so that all the files would be in the main iTunes Media folder when I copy it over.
    * Then File, Library, Organise Library and ticked the 'Consolidate Files' so that it moves any files that aren't in the right folder.
Next I copied the files over. So I copied the updated media folder from the NTFS (Windows) external HDD onto the Mac external HDD.
And I copied the files from in My Documents/Music/iTunes on the Windows PC to User/Music on the Mac.
But this doesn't seem to have done it.

  • How to move the iTunes library to a Windows 7 network location?

    I use Windows 7 and iTunes 11.1.11.
I use a hard disk over my home network that is currently mounted on Windows via ftp using the default "Add a network location" option in Windows Explorer, so the content of the drive is listed as a folder under "Network location". File access / creation / deletion works just fine with other programs.
However, when I try to move my iTunes library to the network folder (Edit --> Preferences --> Advanced), I get an error saying "The folder name is not valid".
I don't care much if I have to mount the NAS differently on Windows or if I have to recreate my iTunes library, but it would be nice to finally manage my Music on the network drive.
Thanks to anyone who knows what I'm doing wrong!

If you hold down the option key when starting iTunes, it will allow you to select a library or create a new one.
You can create a new one, and then add all of your iTunes music back in by simply dragging the old iTunes music file onto iTunes.

  • How can I play HD movies on iTunes on my windows 7 desktop?

My monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster2494 and my video card is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti.  I have no issues running webpages, video games, etc. in HD, however I receive an error whenever I attempt to watch a movie on iTunes in HD.  The message reads - To play 'The Movie' in HD, you must have a computer with a built-in display or have it connected to a display that supports HDCP.
Any ideas on how to correct this?  Do I need iTunes to detect my hardware? (my computer has an on-board graphics card that is not HD compatible, I had upgraded to the 550.

  • How do I move my iTunes files from an old computer (Windows XP) to a new one (Windows 7 Professional)?

Can anyone tell me how to move my iTunes music and book files from an old computer running Windows XP to my new one running Windows 7 Professional?  Do I download and install iTunes on the new system then use the backup and restore functions?  If so, it looks like the backup only goes to CDs or DVDs; there are so many files that using a USB drive would make more sense, but that does not appear to be an option.  Would it work to simply copy the iTunes folder under My Music to the new computer and assume that iTunes would find it?  Thank you, very much, for any help and guidance.

  • I am unable to play a downloaded HD movie from iTunes. SD movies play OK. An error popped up saying something about the display not suitable for HD movies but now all I get is a blank window. I have tried changing the display resolution to no avail.

I have sownloaded an HD movie from iTunes store and when I attempted to play it on my Windows 7 PC a error message popped up saying something about the display not being compatible for HD movies. I have tried changing the display resolution several times but it didn't help. Now it just comes up with a blank screen when I attempt to play it. SD movies work fine. I have the latest version of iTunes installed.
Can anyone help me resolve this problem?

Apparently the display is required to be HDCP compatible to view HD movies in iTunes. My display isn't so this is my problem. I contacted Apple support and they have agreed to credit me for the HD movie and I have now downloaded the SD version.

  • How do i move my itunes account from my old windows xp laptop to my new windows 8 laptop

My old laptop uses Windows XP but it is so old the memory is far too small to cope with my itunes library. An Added Bonus is that you will have a Backup of iTunes.

  • Just bought a dell pc with windows 8. on my old pc (vista) i would right click a movie (in itunes format) and say open with itunes and it would play. Now it won't open in itunes and it just CRASHES. HELP PLEASE. is there a glitch with win 8???

okay not sure how this works so here i go again.
Okay i bought a dell pc with windows 8 (big mistake) i downloaded itunes and from my external hard drive, right clicked a movie file (in ipad format, because this worked in vista on my old laptop) and it will not go into itunes. And itunes keeps crashing. Is there a glitch with win 8 and itunes ? I never had this prob with vista. I would right click a file and say open with itunes and poof it goes in the library. Please help before i throw this thing out the window! OH newest itunes is what i have installed.

Take a look at this MBP, a refurbished unit.  Don't let the late 2011 release date put you off.  For about  $500 less than an equivalent 'new' one with similar specifications you get a quad core CPU and excellent graphics.  As Steve359 mentioned, this can be upgraded if the need arises and has the same warranty as a 'new' one
I would not be surprised that these may actually be 'new' MBPs due to the length of time that they have been replaced by the current generation.  I purchased a 17" model about 5 weeks ago, and a serial number check suggests that it is 9 weeks old.

  • Why can't I buy HD movies on iTunes for Windows?

    Hi,
Was hoping someone could help me with an issue I'm having trying to purchase HD movies on iTunes using a Windows 7 system.
When trying to purchase the movie in HD, I get the following message:
The thing is, I was able to buy 3 HD movies previously, but over the last few months, it hasn't been working. When I close the above window, it takes me to the system requirements, which I think I have.
Windows System Requirements for HD content:
32 or 64-bit version of Windows 7; Windows XP and Vista do not support HDCP
    iTunes 10 or later
2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or faster processor
At least 1 GB of RAM
A video driver that supports HDCP (you may need to check with the manufacturer to determine if your video driver supports HDCP)
A display that supports HDCP with a screen resolution of 1024x768 or higher with a digital connection (DVI, DisplayPort, or HDMI)
    Here are my system details:
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    Dell Inspiron 537S
    Pentinum (R) Dual-Core CPU ES300 @ 2.60GHz 2.60 GHz
    4.00 GB RAM memory
    64-bit Operating System
    iTunes 10.4
The only ones I'm not sure about are the last 2 bullets. I called Dell and I was told I didn't need a new monitor, but just a video card. I didn't trust the representative's answer too mcuh.
Does anyone know what I'm missing to be able to purchase HD movies?
If it helps, the movie I was trying to purchase was Transformers: Dark of the Moon
    Thank you!

    Do you have?
A video driver that supports HDCP (you may need to check with the manufacturer to determine if your video driver supports HDCP)
A display that supports HDCP with a screen resolution of 1024x768 or higher with a digital connection (DVI, DisplayPort, or HDMI)

I use windows 7.  Can I move my entire itunes library off my computer to my network hard drive?
if so, how do I do this?

    Hello dreid20,
Indeed, you can move your iTunes Library to a network volume. The only stipulation to keep in mind is that you'll need to be connected to this volume before launching iTunes for it to function properly.

  • I'm retiring my old computer (windows xp) to a new computer (windows 7). How can i easily move my itunes music from the old computer to the new computer? i have my playlists organized in my old computer, i would like it to stay that way in my new computer

i'm retiring my old computer (with windows xp) and bought a new computer (with windows 7). How can i easily move my itunes music from the old computer to the new computer? i have my playlists organized in my old computer, i would like it to stay that way in my new computer. I also have my ipods, iphone sync'd in the old computer so i want to make sure that things won't get messed up (my apps, playlists, etc) when i move over everything to the new computer and sync all my devices with the new computer.
Thanks in advance for the tips.

Make sure the XP box is upgraded to the latest version of itunes. Also make sure it's using the itunes media folder layout as explained here, because that's what the W7 is going to be using.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3847
Install itunes on the new W7 PC.
Get these folders from the XP machine
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
    C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
And put them here on the W7 machine
    C:\users\username\My Music\iTunes
    C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
