Windows XP users moving files creates 000 permissions

Hello.
I am having some difficulty figuring this one out. We have a few labs of dual booting machines, using bootcamp and bootpicker. Using an AD/OD triangle (AD authentication, OD home directories) The windows clients all remap to the os x server for their home directories. I am getting odd behavior on the OS X Server when a client moves a file inside Windows XP.
When somone makes a file in XP and saves it to their network home it comes across with the proper permissions. However, if that file or any other file is clicked and dragged into a folder inside of XP (on the OS X Server) the permissions become 000, "none" all the way across. Also the ACL's become duplicated, in this instance the admin had read only, but in Server Admin when I looked at the file there were three instances of the admin's ACL for the file after the file "zeroed".
Creating new files is fine, and if you right click and say copy then paste the permissions are correct. It's only when you click and drag a file that the permissions go awry. Since creating new files and folders works as it should, does anybody have any ideas what to look at for why a file being moved would cause the permissions to be erased?
Hardware:
Mac Pro running 10.5.8 server.
XServe RAID hosting home directories
iMacs dual booting 10.5.8 and fully updated XP.
Software:
OD on 10.5.8 server with augmented AD users.
Windows XP desktops authenticating against AD via PGINA with OD hosted homes.

  • Create user.js file, create one.

How do I create a user.js file on a MAC. I need to create this to add a code so I can cut and paste into the firefox browser.

The user.js file is a plain text file. You should be able to create one with any program that can save a file in plain text format. Or, if you prefer, you could make a copy of prefs.js, rename it to user.js, then edit the contents to just what you want.

    Hello adil,
If user is having "Add Items" rights then item ID should be created automatically and this is auto generate column in list.
Why you are using "update list item action"? Are you updating any other field?
If updating any other column value then add Impersonation steps in your code to update item.

  • Where is the user.js file in my profile directory?

I need to use Rich Text editor for work in echalk so I can cut, paste, copy, etc. I followed your support instructions at mozilla.org/editor/midasdemo/securityprefs.html and http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles. I was able to find the profile directory, but there is no user.js file to enter the "allowclipboard" code into. Where is this file? I could not make a new one.

The mozilla.org page you referenced tells you ''if there's no user.js file, create one. '' The user.js file is just a simple text file you create yourself (e.g., with Notepad on Windows) that has a .js file extension.
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/User.js_file for details.

  • I am working in windows 7 and I am trying to enable the copy/paste and I can not find user.j file in the profile and I am not real sure how to create a file, I can create a folder .

I am trying to copy text from a word document and paste it into my web builder and it says that firefox does not support copy/paste from clipboard. Went to your site and it tells me to open the user.j file in my profile. This file does not exist and I am not real sure how to create that file so I can paste the fix from your site into it.

I went to that link and added to firefox add on but it still does not work. I went to the add on option button for this but it told me that my MYSIWG widget was disabled. Does this have something to do with it not working and if so how do you enable it.

  • Moving files on share from Windows results in permission loss

    Here's the setup:
-- Leopard, with shared SMB folders; specific user and everyone have read/write permissions for the share
-- Windows machine is accessing the share via the specific user & password, connecting fine
When I access the share from the Windows machine, and move files between folders, the file loses all permissions (they are set to 0000) so it cannot be read by anyone at all. The only way of getting access to them again (from either machine) is to chmod them back to 0644.
Copying files is OK, as is creating files and moving a folder from Win -> Mac. It only affects moving files between folders on the Mac.
Can anyone else confirm this, or is it a setup issue here?

10.5.1 has not helped the situation. Any ideas???

  • Cannot open files created in shared folders by Windows 7

    Hi.
I've been having issues with my shared folders.
My scenario is that I primarily work on my Windows 7 machine and save a copy on my MacBook so I can work on the same file when I'm out and about. I have no issue saving the files, or even browsing the shared folders on my MacBook. I can create, edit, save and delete files in the shared folder from my Windows machine without problem. The issue is that I'm unable to open any of the files created by Windows on my MacBook; it shows a prompt saying "You do not have permission to open document (filename)." I can't even see the thumbnails of image files created by Windows.
On the MacBook there is only one Standard user account which I use to login, and one Sharing Only account which I use to connect from the Windows machine with Read/Write permissions granted on my shared folders. The WINS workgroup has also been set to the same value as on the Windows machine.
I am able to move the files to Trash, but that's all I can do to them, which defeats the entire purpose of me having a portable computer. My shared folders were setup when I was still on Snow Leopard and had no issues before.
It's a hassle to have to bring a USB drive around to my meetings, and I'm completely clueless on what actions I must take to rectify this issue. Anyone out there ever have this issue? Any and all help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Permissions on files created using UTL_FILE package

The files created on unix using UTL_FILE package have permisisons rw- - - - - - -.(600). I want them to be created with permissions 640.(rw-r - - - - - ).i.e read access to the group also. The umask setting of the unix account of the oracle instance are 137. Is there any way to create the files with the required permissions.

So SQL*Plus is on your PC? I'm assuming you mean 'call' as in the windows cmd.exe command?
Sheesh this is like getting blood from a stone.
In that case you must be connecting via the listener and not internally.
In which case the umask comes from the umask that was set in the environment of the OS user who started the listener process.
Thats not necessarily the same as the owner of the oracle software (normally 'oracle').
If sysdamin joebloggs logs in and starts the listener manually in a shell, then the umask applied to all shadow processes started by the listener is whatever jobloggs umask was when he typed the command 'lsnrctl start'. The umask of the owner of the oracle software, or your umask, is utterly irrelevent.
So if you don't like the umask for files created by processes spawned by the listener, stop and restart the listener in a shell where you have explicitly set the umask to what you want it to be.
Really starting the listener should be scripted and the correct umask is put in the script just before the call to 'lsnrctl start'.

  • Administrators unable to write to a text file created by another Administrator on Windows Server 2008.

Why are Administrators unable to write to a text file created by another Administrator on Windows Server 2008?
--- The Administrators already have full control so how do I fix this? ---
Example:  On a Windows Server 2008 (SP1): user A (who belongs to the Administrators group) logs in and creates a directory C:\foo and creates a file readme.txt in the foo directory.  User B (also a member of the Administrators group) logs in and opens C:\foo\readme.txt in notepad. User B types something and tries to save the file. User B cannot save the file…an option to save as some other file name is presented. The security permissions of C:\foo\readme.txt show that Administrators have full control.
Work around 1: Explicitly add user B to have full control over the foo directory. The problem is that all the all other Administrators still need to be added (current and future).
Work around 2: Change the Users security permission to be full control on the foo directory. (this seems dangerous!)
It is interesting to not that this same procedure is not a problem in Windows Vista. (Any insight about the difference?)
    Sincerely,
    Ian

so there is no way to change this without literally shutting down the UAC?
I have files that  I need to modify all the time, and it is very annoying to have to save as to my desktop modify and then copy and paste the file again.
I would also rather not give myself permissions to the entire C:\ Drive even specified Folders or documents, etc......
You can change these settings without bringing down the UAC

  • Can't open files created or pasted by network user in my shared folder, why?

When a user creates a file or drops one over network in my shared folder I can't open it without changing permissions first.
After installing 10.7.3 update Windows computer were not able to access my iMac anymore. After solving that issue this one was left for me to fight with.
I we googled hard and tried all permission repair methods listed, nothing helped.
Files created by Windows SMB users have RW permissions only for that user, an No access for Everyone. There are no permissions defined for me or staff group or anybody.
    Thank you for your ideas.

I haven't found a solution to this problem yet. All Windows users now access my Mac with my username, changing permission all the time became annoying. This is not a solution, rather an easy way out.
I Would very much appreciate if someone has a proper solution.

  • Permissions trouble moving files -Help

I am trying to copy a large folder to my external hard drive. I have done this many times before. However, today, it is telling me that I do not have the permissions to do so.
What does this mean? How can I correct it?
When I click "Get Info" on the folder it lists me, staff, and everyone. What is "staff"?
I am a sole user, and I do not use my computer in a corporate environment.
    Please help!

From the Apple support article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963
    Owner, Group, Others
Abbreviations like "rwx" and "r-x" describe the permission for one user or entity. The permissions set for each file or folder defines access for three entities: owner, group, and others.
    * Owner - The owner is most often the user who created the file. Almost all files and folders in your home directory will have your username listed as the owner.
    * Group - Admin users are members of the groups called "staff" and "admin". The super user "root" is a member of these and several other groups. Non-admin users are members of "staff" only. Typically, all files and folders are assigned to either "staff," "admin," or "wheel".
    * Others - Others refers to all other users that are not the owner or part of the group for a file or folder.
Check to see that you have Read and Write permissions on the folder in question AND that it is applied to all enclosed folders. (Click the Gear symbol at the bottom of Get Info window to apply to all.)
Also Get Info on the external drive and tell it to "ignore ownership on this volume."

I created a custom security extension following the steps listed in the Readme_Security Extension Sample. It works fine if I login as the user that is specified AdminConfiguration section of the rsreportserver.config file but if I
log in as another user, I get this error: User '' does not have required permissions. Verify that sufficient permissions have been granted and Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions have been addressed.  I've added the user to both System Administrator
and System User roles to try to get it to work but still no luck.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks.

    Hi MetronM,
The issue is due to that user have no permission to access the report server. In report manager, Reporting Services includes predefined roles that we can assign to users and groups to provide immediate access to a report server. Each role defines a collection
    of related tasks.
You can refer to the following steps to assign corresponding role to the user.
    Open report manager.
    Click “Folder Setting” button.
    Click “New Role Assignment” icon.
Type the user name and select the corresponding role.
There is an article about Granting Permissions on a Native Mode Report Server, you can refer to it.

  • Moving/Linking Claims Windows Auth user to an ADFS Claims

    Hi guys,
    Here is my situation:
Initial deployment: SharePoint 2010 with Windows Authentication - Users login using AD
We successfully migrated the web application to use "Claims"
We then integrated the web application with ADFS 2.0 - Using the same AD users
Everything seems good and working fine.
The question I have is related to content already created in SharePoint. Is it possible to map the new ADFS account usernames to the existing windows authentication claims usernames?
This is important for users, because we would like the "My" views of lists and libraries to work. SharePoint at the moment thinks that the logged in users (using ADFS) is different than the user who created/modified the documents. (Although it
    is the same AD account)

    Hi Inderjeet
Thanks for your reply. The article did help in moving users (Move-SPUser) from AD to ADFS (Which I noticed in the securities in groups), however, the issue I'm looking for is still standing where the items that were created by the user using "Windows
Auth Claim" were not moved/updated to the "ADFS Claim" user, which in fact they map to the same AD user.
Is there away to transfer/update the created by and modified by attributes of users from Windows Claims to ADFS Claims user?
UPDATE: The above statement is not correct. Move-SPUser actually updates the created by and modified by attributes to.

  • Windows 7 Home Premium problem creating new user account

I am unable to create a new user account on my Windows 7 Home Premium computer. I have 3 accounts on it already, two are adminstrators, and just trying to add a fourth one (standard user).
I go to User Accounts, click Create new account, give it a name, keep Standard user checked, and press Create Account. The account appears to get created and shows up on the User Accounts screen, though it shows that it is password protected already, even
though I didn't have an opportunity to give it a password yet. I can manage that new user account and delete the password, and it then shows up on User Accounts as not having a password.
When I try to log on as that user from the main logon screen, it prompts me for the password (if I have specified one), but it doesn't accept the password (I've tried defining and using various ones), and I get the message "The user name or password is incorrect".
If I don't define a password for that account, when I click on the account button to logon, I get that same error message immediately.
I also noticed that C:\Users doesn't include the new user account folder there. Don't know if that should've been created at this point before logging on for the first time. I also noticed that there's a "Default User" folder that has a lock on the folder
icon, and I'm not able to open that folder (says it's invalid). There is a "Default" folder there with some content in it and I am able to view it. Don't know if either of these folders act as templates for new users.
At some point months ago I did have a profile problem with one of the existing accounts, and had to follow some suggestions on repairing that user profile. Don't know if that perhaps has complicated things. The 3 existing user accounts are working fine.
Any tips on what I can try to get a new account established?

I agree with the same problem and the answer below did not work either.  I tried changing permissions to Users directory and that did not work either.  I even tried creating the directory name of user I wanted to install and that was recognized and
being used, but will not start a user directory for new user.

Is anyone having the same type of problems I'm having with Lion. I have a new MacBook Pro, received 7 weeks ago, preinstalled with Leopard 10.6.7. I didn't migrate anything from my old iMac, wanted a clean install from the Apple Store. While there, I asked for the upgrade to Lion 10.7, however their system was down.
I  installed it myself, wirelessly about a week later, and Apple emailed me a receipt. Now, I've had to call support directly last week when I lost Mail, Address Book, was unable to open Preview or iTunes, among other problems. Seemed fixed after a session that baffled even the store tech.  Now I am unable to download or install the recent Mac updates for Lion, from the App Store, could not install Adobe Reader, etc. Messages range from 'A network error has occured - Check your Internet connection and try again' to 'The Installer is damaged and cannot open the package. There may be a problem with file ownership or permissions.'  All fail and I'll probably have to call Apple again. I am frustrated beyond words.  Logs 'Install's runner tool is not properly configured as a setuid tool', domain errors, 'attempt to write a readonly database, and on and on. I have barely done a thing on this computer except search online for help with these problems. Safari gives me a 'You are not connected to the internet' too often. Diagnostics disagrees. I do see wi-fi problems in the forum. Disk and permissions were fine at the beginning of the earlier problems, checked first by support tech. I'm not sure if support tech even knew. I was just happy they were fixed. Anyone have these download and/or install problems after a 'clean bill of health' so to speak, only a week ago?
