Does anybody here know whether the copy of Window XP Pro that you get when you buy Virtual PC with XP Pro is the Full version or an OEM?
Also, does Windows XP come on a seperate disc?

How to Install an APO Livecache on Windows Using Virtual Host Names

Hi,
How to Install Live Cache on windows using Virtual Host names?
we are using SCM 4.0 with live cache build 7.4.3 on two differnt servers.
I have checked the Live cache CD (7.4.3) is with setup.cmd, where as it need use command sapinst.exe SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=Virtual hostname.
Please advise.

a possible workaround (that I have no tested) is to temporarily name your server with the same of the virtual name, install. when completed, rename server to original name.
This is not a proven method, but it might work.

File copy in windows 7 virtual PC

I am running virtual machine (XP) in Windows 7 Pro. Every time I right click a file in windows explorer in the VM and click copy, the VM shuts down. Really annoying as cannot back up data files to an external disk. What am i doing wrong?

How long has the issue persisted? Started with the virtual machine installed or since recently?

Have you tried other method for copying files? Such as right click dragging and dropping, Ctrl + C or Xcopy command line. Please try these and check if the issue still persists. If it does, the issue might be caused by memory problem, you could try increasing
memory on Windows XP virtual machine
If these workarounds work fine, try give a clean boot for your virtual machine, because it might be caused by software compatibility or virus infection.
You also could reinstall your virtual machine to check if it is related to your host machine or virtual PC tool.

I'm trying to install Star Wars: Empire at War (origional) and I'm getting a data2.cab (cycle redundancy check) error. Can this be fixed so I can install this game on my Windows XP virtual drive?

I insert the CD and it is recognized. Then I enter the game code off the box and it begins to install for a couple of minutes until it gets this error. I can go no further afterward. The Cd is not scratched enough to damage the files on it because I installed it on my Dell XPS laptop just fine.

I have just now successfully installed this game on my Windows XP virtual drive on my Macbook Pro laptop. It works like a charm. I kept at it and resolved the issue on my own. The CD had to be copied and installed from the file.

I got a question regarding running iOs and Windows using virtual software. I recently bought a monitor so I can display Windows on it and run both OS at the same time.Now,I'm using BootCamp. I downloaded VirtualBox for "tranferring" Windows on it. Since I'm a new iOs user , what do I need to do in order to make work?
Do I need to un-install Windows from BootCamp,install VirtualBox and then install them again?
Any information would be appreciate it!

That should work to use OS X, you can run MS Windows using Virtual Box and use a seperate display for the Virtual Box window. That way you can run OS X and MS Windows simultaneously. However remember Virtual Box is freeware and not a commercial application like Parallels or VMWare Fusion and may not have the features of a commercial application. Support for Windows run in any virtualization application (Virtual Box, Parallels or Fusion) is not generally done on this forum as they are not OS X related. To get help on those apps you usually will need to go to their forums.
Remember IOS will not run on either OS X or MS Windows, it only works on IOS devices.

Are you asking if a Bootcamp/WIndows installation can also be booted as a Virtual Machine? The answer is yes.

Installed a Virtual Network, all options default, setup Gateway, created and uploaded Certs, downloaded 64 bit VPN client. Windows 7, fully patched, AV client disabled.

Mac Pro, Windows 7 Virtual PC-XP Mode Problem w/ Hardware Virtualization

I have installed windows 7 (64 bit) on an 8 month old intel mac pro with latest bootcamp. runs great. cannot get virtual pc / xp mode to work.
confirmed latest firmware, confirmed processor has virtualization (vmx listed in processor details when boot to snow leopard).
when i run ms hardware-assisted virtualization detection tool it confirms hardware virtualization. after i install xp mode and virtual pc update i get an error message that there is no virtualization. ms hardware-assisted virtualization detection tool will now also report no virtualization. if i uninstall xp mode and virtual pc update, ms hardware-assisted virtualization detection tool will again confirm virtualization.
any thoughts? i searched forum but did not see anything - sorry if i missed it.

Because the hardware of Mac Pro does have Intel-VT capability, it's just disabled.
One solution (though a very lame one) is boot into OS X first, run VMware Fusion or Parallel (which enables Intel-VT), then restart into Windows.
Just hope there would be some way to enable Intel-VT on Windows...

Installing cs4 in Windows 7 Virtual machine

I am having problems with AE and windows 7 64 bit. Ram preview isn't working / crashing AE I wanted to do a clean install on XP using Windows virtual machine. I unserstand it sounds stupid, but all I am trying to do is sync some effects to a soundtrack and it's not working and I am on a deadline.
Has anyone installed these, I get an install error, Contact Adobe Support. not very helpful.

Yeah, but what do you expect? It's weekend and your scenario really isn't something people do every day. I would even guess that it's more of an issue with memory and keyboard handling settings in the VM rather than a flaw in the Adobe program. In any case, what's so bad about just installing CS4 in W7 itself or installing the CS5 trial? If you're on a deadline, it's certainly better to have some way of working and worrying about any side effects later than waiting for a solution to fall out of the sky...

Disconnecting WEB SSL VPN client windows 7 to remote windows 7 virtual machine

Good morning,
          my problem, common to other colleagues who use Windows machines 7 Professional is this:
I connect to WEB SSL VPN Cisco from Client Windows 7 Home Premium Explorer-9 to a virtual machine Windows 7 Professional using a specific professional audience and vpn user. I access the Terminal Services window (attached JPG) with a list of links to virtual machines.I connect to the virtual machine in Remote Desktop Full Screen mode and log in with the same user and password. For the connection is installed an add-type control ActiveX CISCO Portforwarder Control version 3.1.0.1, file name -> cscopf.ocx.
Problem: The session window once inside the virtual machine disappears and disconnect from the virtual machine back in the window of choice of Terminal services available. This always happens and there is no way to maintain a stable connection.With modality not FULL SCREEN, the session window would seem to remain stable but however is impossible to work in a small window.
This problem is raised after the update windows 7 to SP1 both Home premium and Professional. In fact before the update the connection is stable. The update to SP1 update the RDP client microsoft to version 6.1.7601.17154 from version 6.1.7600 but i do not know if this the cause of the problem.
Have you an update of CISCO active-x to fix the problem? I cancelled the file and download the last version but the problem remains.
Workaround: Use local virtual machine with xp or windos 2003 and access form this operating system but I consider absurd to use a local
                    virtual machine to access a service which should be directed
Note: This problem does not occur if the VPN session to the virtual machine Windows 7 is launched from a host machine running Vista Home Premium with RDP Client 6.0. My previous PC had this OS and I was working in an absolutely stable by performing the same type of connection.

The same problem here as well.
I am using a Win7 PC to connect to an Win Vista PC via SSLVPN. Once i logged into the remote PC, the session is disconnected.
Do we have any corrections from Cisco for the moment?

Windows 7 virtual XP Mode impossible since Bootcamp 3.1

I have installed Win 7 on to Boot Camp 3.0 on my macbook pro.
Everything was fine and i could use +virtual XP Mode+ in Win 7 (Microsoft detect tool reported that my macbook was OK for assisted virtualization hardware).
Then, i updated Boot camp to 3.1.
And now, i cannot use +virtual XP mode+ anymore in Win7.
Moreover, Microsoft detect tool now reports that my macbook doesn't support assisted virtualization hardware (or is not configured in BIOS).
How can i configure it in BIOS or anywhere else ?
Is Bootcamp 3.1 compatible with +virtual XP Mode+ in Win 7 ?

Microsoft has a utillity that you can download here:

It runs under Windows and the detection tool helps you check if the computer processor supports hardware virtualization. The tool also checks if this feature is enabled on the processor.
Although this utility can not turn on/off this feature at least you know if you are capable and if it is enabled. My late (2009) unibody MBP ran virtualization just fine both on Bootcamp 3.0 and 3.1. Since MAC has no BIOS, it is unclear how you could configure the EFI to enable this feature.

OEL5.4 Install on Windows 7 Virtual PC?

Environment: Windows 7 x64, OEL5.4 x86, Windows Virtual PC, Lenovo laptop W500
I installed from OEL5.4 DVD iso image and immediately had trouble w/ the graphical mode. I tried 'resolution=1024x768' option but it didn't help. So I installed w/ the 'text' option instead. The VM response to keyboard input is very sluggish. I also observed this w/ Windows XP VM install.
I set up the network for DHCP and it appears to obtain IP in a MS networks.
I would like to know how to set up graphical desktop, install Oracle 11gR2 database.

I'd suggest using Virtual Box (http://virtualbox.org/) in place of W7VPC. You are already having problems with it on a normal O/S :) I suspec the W7VPC was tailored to allow W7 to run WINXP applications, and is not a good general-purpose O/S virtualization tool.

Can't install oracle 10g on windows XP(Virtual Box)

Hi all,
I have installed windows XP in Virtual Box, trying to install Oracle 10g in it. It won't start the installation..no clue about it. I installed winrar(as the 10g setup was in rar format, had to extract it).
without any issues winrar got installed, where as Oracle 10g simply wont get installed...no error message is thrown..
in fact I have installed 10g on a XP PC just last week..not sure where what I am missing
i am using "Briged Adapter" Network
If anybody has experienced same issue, kindly let me know....

yes the software worked just yesterday, I had installed on XP(different machine).
I added my PC to domain, logged in as Administrator & double clicked, same....no response.
At last I used "command prompt" and it worked!! not sure how or why...but worked.
Now my database is created successfully
Yes would like to know why this happened....and how things worked via command prompt & not by double click....would greatly appreciate if anybody helps me on this.

Window manager that can scale individual window or virtual desktop?

Xfig doesn't work well on high DPI screens, especially for users whose vision is not that great. The problem is that there is no configuration option to scale elements such as lines.
I see two ways to solve the problem:
Scale the Xfig window.
Scale the virtual desktop on which Xfig is running. Other applications would be running on virtual desktops that are not scaled.
Following a suggestion in the awesome mailing list, I looked into Wayland plus a compositing window manager. However, XWayland, the X compatibility layer, has issues with Xfig. So I guess that for now I’m stuck with X.org, and a window manager compatible with the X composite extension.

Possible solutions:
Pervert: Set up a virtual machine just for Xfig, then use xrandr to scale the desktop inside of the virtual machine.
Saner: Run Xfig in a VNC server (or NX), then connect with a client that supports scaling, e.g. gtk-vnc.
Could be nice: Run Xfig within Xephyr, an X server that runs in a window within X. However, scaling with xrandr doesn't work.
Untested: Use the Compiz Ezoom plugin to scale part of the screen. One would somehow need to prevent windows from being positioned outside of the zoomed area, and also restrict mouse movement.
