Windows Zip program denies me access to zip files

When I try to zip a folder, it gets almost done, then come saying "unable to complete action, access denied"
I am the only user on my computer, so I must have administrative rights. Can anyone help me out with this?

Hi manyhatsink ,
When did the issue start to occur or can we open the zip file before ?
Have you tried to right click and run it as an administrator to have a check ?
There is a possibility that the present user account profile has corrupted .We can create a new administrator account and login with it to have a check .
If that is the issue ,we can refer to the following link to fix the corrupted user profile .It is also applied to Windows 8.1 machine .

    I have a Mac computer and am trying to use a Photoshop CS4 program, but after accessing my desktop files through Adobe Bridge and clicking twice on any of the pictures to get into Photoshop, instead of entering photoshop, I get on the lefthand side an enlarged version of the picture with red, yellow and green buttons on top. Any suggestions on what is wrong, or what can be corrected ?

    And there is the problem. Your pictures are opening up in Mac's own Preview app.
    Do you want all your jpegs to open in Photoshop, or only when you are in Bridge?
    Selecting a program to open a certain file is called: File Type Association.
    You can choose this at the MacOS level or the Bridge level.
    Here's how to do both:
    Either MacOS or Bridge has the wrong app associated with the jpeg. Let's start with MacOS
    Close Bridge and Preview. Select one of your jpegs, and press Cmd i, That will bring up the file info window.
    Go down to the "Open with" section of File Info.
    Choose Photoshop CS4 and click on the Change All... button to apply this choice to every jpeg on your Mac.
    Then open Bridge and see if double-clicking opens it in Photoshop.
    Now that means all jpegs on your Mac will open in Photoshop.  Maybe you don't want that.
    You can set your jpegs to open in Preview when Bridge is closed.
    When you open Bridge, there is Preferences > File Type Associations where you can direct Bridge to open the jpegs in Photoshop when you are viewing in Bridge.

  • Password protecting a Zip file in windows 7

    So I am trying to figure out how to password protect a zip file using the built in zipping utility in windows 7.  In windows xp and vista once you have created a zipped file you open the file and select file>add password.
    In windows 7 (currently using pro) there is no "add password" option, anyone have any idea why this is?  Or is there some other way of adding a password to a windows zip file that I am not aware of?  Am I being forced to add a 3rd party
    zip app in order to password protect files?
    if so my other question is why would such a simple/convenient feature be removed from an operating system that is suppose to be superior then the previous?

    According to the Windows 7 Help file there is no such capability in windows 7:
    Can I protect files or folders with a password?
    No, you can't use a password to protect files and folders in
    Windows. However, some programs that run on Windows allow you to protect individual files with a password. For more information, check the Help for the program you're using.
    There are other ways to protect your files and folders in Windows. You can
    encrypt your files using Encrypting File System (EFS), manually specify who can access the folders or files by setting permissions, or hide them. Choose your method based on how secure the folders or files need to be.
    Encrypting is the most secure, while hiding the folders is the least secure.
    For more information about EFS, see What is Encrypting File System (EFS)? For more information about permissions, see
    What are permissions?

  • Unzipping Mac .zip files on a Windows PC

    Does anybody know of a Windows program that will decompress Mac .zip (gz) files reliably? I've Tried StuffIt Standard for Windows but it quits every time with a warning, "Engine Error:Internal Error." Sure, I can make .sit files on the Mac and use Stuffit to expand them in Windows, but that's not the solution I'm looking for. If I already have a Mac .zip file on my Windows PC is there any way to open it without using a Mac?
    I've searched these forums but all my searches come up with answers to the opposite question: How do I open Windows .zip files on my Mac?

    A .gz file is not a "Mac Zip file" but a GNU Zip file, which is commonly used on Unix and Linux computers (OS X is a form of Unix).
    You can get a gzip application for Windows here, or Google for something like "gzip for Windows".
    Archives made by the Finder on a Mac are regular zip files (.zip files), just like the ones you would see on Windows.

  • Recover a zip file on mac?

    Sorry for the somewhat off topic question.
    I have a very important zip file that no longer exists on an FTP site. I let it sit too long before checking to make sure it was legit and it was corrupted. The file size is about 200 meg and I know there is tons of usuable data in there (it was zipped up images from an event we did). I know there are a bunch of windows only programs that could go through the file and try to save some of the images. Does such a program exist for MAC?
    Again sorry to bother, but this would save me if I could find something. I dont have access to a windows machine either.
    Thank you so much.

    I think it's built in, just double click on it and it should open with Archive Utility. I dunno, maybe Unrar X might work for you>

  • Compress/zip files from the command line in Windows 7?

    In Windows 7 is there a native way to compress or zip files from the command line?  I'd like to do it without installing any third-party utilities such as 7Zip.

    I fully agree that Compact is not the answer. There are additional concerns with the Compact command. It enables disk compression which is a total no-no. Very bad! It makes your computer very slow and is quite difficult to undo. The only time anyone should
    use this command is when they're removing disk compression because someone turned it on to save space.  Turning this off has to be done by booting into the recovery console, if my memory serves me correctly, and it's a real nuisance.  So
    definitely no to the Compact command.
    If you wanted to compress files before sending them to another drive, or over a network, or by email, then Compact wouldn't actually help at all because the files have to get uncompressed whenever they're accessed, especially before sending them anywhere.
    When I say accessed, I mean that just looking at a file triggers the OS to decompress it in the background and present you with an uncompressed version of it then letting you change it and recompressing it again for storage every single time you access the
    file, which is why your machine gets slower.  If you have folders or files that have blue text instead of black, then you've probably already made this mistake.
    I would also like to know if there is a built-in command for zipping files/directories, or, if there isn't such a thing built into Windows, then I would like to know if this is feature is accessible through Visual Studio, which would be just as good as having
    a command-line program for those of us that do a bit of programming.
    If anyone knows if MS provides such a feature, either by command-line or through an API, then I'd love to hear about it.  Good luck to those of you that have disk compression turn on.

  • Problem on windows xp with downloaded zip file

    Hi,
    I have written a JSP to download file which is as follows
    try
    response.setContentType("application/download");
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment;filename=<FileName>");
    int iRead;
    FileInputStream stream = null;
    try
    File f = new File(<FilePath>);
    stream = new FileInputStream(f);
    while ((iRead = stream.read()) != -1)
    out.write(iRead);
    out.flush();
    finally
    if (stream != null)
    stream.close();
    catch(Exception e)
    //out.println("Exception : "+e);
    After downloading zip file, could not extract files on windows XP by using any tool or built-in extractor i.e. compressed(zipped)folders (error: compressed folder invalid or corrupted).
    But this works on win2k or win98
    How can i work with it or can anyone tell me a solution to handle such a problem.
    Thanks in advance.

    This could be a problem with the built-in ZIP program in Win XP - it's possible that the ZIP you are downloading (uploading?) is simply incompatible with the XP program. In Win 98 & 2000, you would have to use your own ZIP program, e.g. Winzip, and that can handle more formats that the XP program.
    Try installing the same ZIP program that you have on w98/2k on your XP machine, and see if you can open the uploaded file using it.

  • Zip file created on OS X fails to open in Windows

    I have created a 10 GB zip file (I suppose that it is a zip 64 file) as a backup of my Mac. I have moved it into a Windows computer, however, whatever program I use, it fails to open. The closest I got was using a 3rd party zip program, which succeeded in reading the directories, but not the individual files. Is there a program that I can use, or is this only compressible on a Mac (on a Mac, I have succeeded in uncompressing the file)?

    There are of course several different companies that make and furnish there product on the market many are free while others you have to pay for. In all the years I have been playing with computers I have found this one to be one of the best on the market.
    http://mac.winzip.com/features.htm
    Scroll down and you will find the capabilities. You can create and open either Mac or PC.
    They also offer a trial version so you can see if this is what you want.

    Steve,
    I appreciate your answer.  While it might work, I'm a bit hesitant to remove the other programs as a possible solution since they are all currently working.
    With Acrobat 9 Pro failing with the OS 10.7 upgrade, I'm hoping that there is a less severe solution.
    Since the trigger appears to be 10.7 and may have something to do with the discontinued support of Rosetta, I could be spending a few hours working on a reinstall without a change.  Yes, it might work.  The "might" is the part that makes me hesitate.
    Is anyone else out there on OS 10.7 and running Acrobat 9 Pro?  Any issues with anyone else?
    Thanks Steve.  I do appreciate your offering a solution.  I may end up trying it if nothing else comes together.

  • Old DW4 website files - how do I access and use .zip files?

    I have been given a .zip file of a now defunct website (Dreamweaver 4) which I wish to ressurrect! Do I need DW4 to access these website files or are the newer versions backward complient?  Absolute novice so any advice/assistance gratefully appreciated. Thanks.

    1. Double click your .zip file and drag the contents out onto your desktop to extract the archive.
         Don't just attempt to use the files in the .zip archive within DW without moving them out.
         They will appear to be "browseable" to your OS, but they won't/can't work as a website while in the archive
    2. Make sure all of the files are within a single folder (not the Desktop itself)
         Desktop > MyWebsiteName > all website files
    3. From your current version of DW, go to Site > New Site...
    4. Give the site a name and browse to the folder from Step 2 for Local Site Folder
    5. If you have your FTP info, you can enter it under Servers at this time, but you don't need it right away to create the Site Definition to start working with DW
    6. Hit Save
    From there on out, you will work from DW while your site name from Step 4 is displayed in the left dropdown menu of the Files Window (go to Window > Files or hit F8 if it's not visible)
    Snakeyez warning about deprecated features will likely be your biggest hurdle while working on an old site in a new version of DW. Hopefully, the original creator didn't use much of the old DW Spry based functionality.

    Application Loader, unless there's another one I'm not familiar with, is part of the iOS SDK. That have usurped the .zip, or you may have removed that application but your Mac is still holding onto the mapping of Zip files to that application. Select a .zip file in Finder, Get Info, and go to the Open with section. Select Archive Utility and click Change All. That should fix the problem.
