Windows7 pro oem activation

Hi All,
I have got a Toshiba Tecra laptop it came with windows7 Pro installed but with windows 8 recovery. I had to replace the harddisk and I could not restore windows7 back to it so I had to download windows 7. First I could not install the OS.
I had to disable UEFI and CSM to install the OS. I am finding it really hard to activate it and Toshiba support charge £30 ish poung for recovery dvd. I have validated the windows at
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/genuine but unable to activate it. Could someone please help me or at least give me a microsoft number or something to activate it.
Thanks,

I would remember not to buy from Toshiba or any other this kind of OEM manufacturer in the future.
Unfortunately, all OEM notebook computers pre-licensed/pre-installed with Windows, don't have the Windows product key on the sticker any more.
And, in the near future, dual-licensed/downgradable  (Windows8 + Windows7) will cease.
Both of these OEM licensing offerings are controlled by MSFT, not by the OEMs.
In my organisation, we have a lot of Toshiba notebooks (20,000), and for the product key vs. COA vs. recovery-media, this situation has been in place for quite some time.
Whenever anybody buys a new computer from a Tier1 OEM, it's best to use the OEM recovery software utility to create the recovery media (either DVD or UFD).
It's the very first thing you should do when you buy a new computer (in my opinion).
(Even though in my organisation we don't use the OEM factory media for our deployments, it's handy to have the OEM as a reference)
If you must have Windows7 on this computer, you will need to spend the money on the Toshiba recovery DVD (or contact somebody who has the exactly identical model, and use their recovery media or their computer to create a recovery set).
(The Tecra R940 does use a common mainboard with other models such as Portege R930, Tecra R950, and some others too, so the recovery media will be the same)

  • Windows 8 Pro (OEM Activation required) operating system recovery disc

We bought a Thinkcentre M72Z PC with a windows 7 downgrade.  The PC came with the Windows 8 Pro (OEM Activation required) operating system recovery disc but I cannot load Windows 8 from it.  Does anyone know what steps I have to take to use this disc?  It says the media is provided for recovery purposes, but it is not like an install disc.

First, the discs that you have do not include Windows, so you are stopped right there. What you had in mind might have worked, but the first thumbdrive has to be made bootable before copying the files on the disc to the thumbdrive.
Have you tried going into Windows and change the language it uses? I am not sure if installing the language pack is all you need to do. I believe it will only get you part way.

    Hi,
I think that this is possible, after installing you can try to change key in PC Settings or in case when this will be not possible you can use slmgr.vbs.
To change product key: slmgr /ipk xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx
    To activate slmgr /ato

  • Windows 7 Professional downgrade from Windows 8.1 Pro OEM

    Hi,
I purchased new computers for a small business with Windows 8.1 Pro OEM licenses and disks. I was intending to install windows 7 Pro using downgrade rights but when I enter the product key that came with Windows 8.1 it gives me an error with "Invalid
    Character".
How can I activate Windows 7 Pro using downgrade rights from Windows 8.1 Pro?
    Thank you.
    André Gomes

You cannot use a Windows 8.1 product key with a Windows 7 installation.  You must "activate by phone" and hold on to speak with a Microsoft Activation
Specialist and explain your desire to invoke your downgrade rights to Windows 7.  The Microsoft Activation Specialist will then review your request and if approved, will issue you an activation code for Windows 7.

  • How do I install Windows XP Pro OEM?

I have installed a legitimate copy of Windows XP Pro OEM I purchased from Ebay. (when i bought it i didnt know there was a difference i thought one was just mass produced and the other was retail pretty produced.)
So now windows xp is popping up with 'non-genuine' spam that it does and wont do any updates.
An IT friend of mine told me I could call Microsoft for registration and Activation and tell them that I changed the hardware, i havnt tried this yet.
My only reason for install xp is to play my old xp games, which by the way, are running really poorly and choppy (Simcity 4 Deluxe), but im guessing its because Windows isnt updated. Anyone else experience poor performance for games running in XP?
    Any suggestions?

Spam is email. Using OEM isn't spam.
OEM or System Builder are totally fine and activate, the fact that it won't tells or suggests to me that your ebay skirted and is selling something else.
Buy from Newegg or Amazon. Or find a legit seller. The seller might spam you though and get into a less than polite discourse for leaving some helpful accurate feedback that they sold something that was not legit - but give them a chance I guess to prove they are going to stand behind it.
OEM copies can't be transferred to a new motherboard, sorry. That too is a good reason to buy retail. OEM can be installed multiple times, to the same motherboard only.

  • Windows 8.1 OEM Activation not working anymore ?

    Hello,
After asking here on the forum about restoring a deleted partition which question has been solved. We run into another problem.
My sister recently infected the Laptop at a point it became UNUSABLE! The HDD kept filling up, She had over 400GB remaining (girls stuff, unlike guys, they don't download many stuff); but suddenly the HDD filled up from 400GB remaining to 5GB
And...the computer is VERY SLOW at start, it used to take just few seconds to boot, but it took almost 5 minutes to boot when it was infected. We tried many antivirus softwares, the laptop came with a preinstalled one (can't remember which one), beside this, we tried Kaspersky, Avira, Avast, Eset and other Antivirus softwares.
Most of them failed to scan C:/ Drive with a error message such as "unable to scan  drive c".
So our best option was to reeinstall the system.
I firstly backep up the OEM Activation Keys (supposedly encrypted in the BIOS). I found useful tutorials online which allowed me to show which activation key is beinf used, so I just copied it in a safe place just in cas somthing go wrong. I didn't use a thirdparty software to display the key! Just Windows tools. A thirdparty application can't be VERY trustfull in term of Licence Keys.
I then downloaded a guenuine Windows 8.1 Pro from MSDN website with a product key.
The installation went flawlessly but when I restarted I noticed Windows Wasn't activated!
I then tried to use the earlier backed up key, sadly it didn't work, windows said that I can't use this key with this edition of windows.
    My questions are:
    - Can someone tell me WHY can't I use the OEM Activation on all windows edition ?
    - Is there any way to get it working on all editions anyways ?
    - Will a full reinstallation of Windows 8.1 Non-Pro version be activated automatically by the BIOS ?
    - If I buy an activation key for windows 8.1 pro, will this key somehow interfere with the one in the BIOS ?

    1. No it works only for that version that is made for Preminum for Preminum not Preminum for Professional that is a different Product Key.
    2. No, You will have to buy each O/S with different Product Key to activiate them
    3. No, If that O/S doesn't match the Product Key for the previous O/S it will not work or activiate giving you only 30day trial.
    4. No, it will not interfere it will though ask for the new Product Key from the Windows 8.1 Pro to activiate it.
So Product Keys are not tranferrable with the exception that if the replacement Windows Retail matches the previous Product Key Windows O/S version will permit the installation and comes the possiblity that you will have to reactiviate online to verify the Product key to get the O/S working.

I have a Windows 7 Pro OEM disk that can install either the 32 bit or 64 bit versions.  When trying to setup a dual boot for my Mac Mini using Bootcamp version 5.0.3, I get the message that I have the 32 bit version of Windows.  Any ideas on how I can get it to recognize the 64 bit version so that I can partition my "Mini"?

If by "OEM" you mean the disk came with another Win computer, it won't work. You need either a full retail verison or the "System Builders' Edition." I used the latter for my BC installation and it worked flawlessly and was marked as 64-bit--no mention of 32-bit.

  • How to upgrade Windows 8 pro OEM to 8.1 pro for a home PC builder

Built a PC. bought Windows 8 Pro OEM and installed.  don't need retail as I have never needed support before.  Tried to upgrade to 8.1 but my licence is OEM (I have a COA), but it will not update through store.  Advised that 'volume licences'

Can I ask if there is a way to upgrade to 8.1 or do I have to buy windows 8.1 OEM and install that.

  • Can not see TC hard driver using istat pro or activity monitor

I upgraded the firmware of TC to 7.4.1 yesterday, but I found the transfer speed was too slow and I noticed that I can not see the TC condition using istat pro or activity monitor. So I downgraded the firmware to 7.3.2. Now the transfer speed is fine but I still can not see the TC hard driver in the istat pro or activity monitor.(but I can access files in the TC hard driver normally)
    Can anyone help?

I couldn't see my TC hard drive in iStat pro until I actually mounted the TC's Airport Disk using the Finder 'Connect to server' dialog. iStat Pro only gives me Used and Free GB for my Airport Disk. My TC is an old 500GB upgraded to 1TB running 7.4.2 firmware.
As to checking the temperature, I'd be interested too. I have a digital thermometer taped to the top surface of the TC and it is reading 46C with an ambient of 17C. The TC sits on top of a cupboard with clear space around, and I am resting it on a spacer which lifts it 12mm clear of the cupboard to give it the best ventilation. The TC has been doing a long (08:00 - 21:00) Time Machine backup today.

  • Vista and XP OEM Activation in BIOS?

I'm trying to clarify a point. According to an article I read, manufacturers of preloaded systems place a flag in the BIOS which is recognized during the setup of the OS when using an OEM disk. This eliminates the need for product activation of the OS. Therefore a machine built for delivery with Vista will accept a Vista OEM disk, but will require activation if an XP OEM disk is used and the reverse would be true if the machine was built for XP.
A note to the mods: If I'm treading on "slippery" ground here, feel free to delete this post.

Lenovo recovery discs look for a Lenovo flag, if they see it it pre-activates. The flag is not XP or Vista specific as the system could (for instance) have Vista with an XP downgrade.

  • Acrobat XI Pro Installed, Activated, Cannot Register

Acrobat XI Pro (Mac) was purchased, installed (a valid license key was entered at time of installation), and activated. I did not register it at the time of installation because I did not then have the Adobe ID available. I have subsequently attempted to register the installation with Adobe using the proper Adobe ID.
The first attempt was using the online registration page (https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/gpr/index.cfm) but that link yields either a blank page (in Firefox, Safari) or a 404 error (in Internet Explorer) on every computer (Mac and PC) and browser on which I have attempted to use it. The link to that page came from Adobe - Product Registration Options.
Next I attempted to register from within the installed product. When I clicked on Help / Register, I received a message that my TRIAL would expire in 30 days! This would seem to me to indicate that the software was not activated even though I received an activation confirmation at the time I installed. When I used the option to enter the serial number, the window just closed without any other response and when I clicked Help / Register again, I got the same "trial will expire in 30 days" message.
This installation is for a public library, which obtained a download link and license key from Tech Soup, which is a highly reputable, legitimate organization providing limited quantities of reduced-cost software to qualified non-profit organizations. It is for a perpetual standalone license, and it was not installed using Creative Cloud.
I contacted Adobe Help via chat but they were not helpful.
Acrobat XI Pro also was installed and activated on three Windows 7 PCs at the same time. Other than the failed attempts to register online using the link above, I have not yet attempted to register them from within the software.

Yes, I installed 3 different valid license keys on 3 PCs and one valid license key on one Mac. Same problems originally described exist on all, except that I have subsequently been able to register all with Adobe. But I still have the bogus messages about my trial expiring in 30 days even though I installed with valid license keys and activation was confirmed at the time of installation.
