Windows8 Mail app showing automatic addresses

WINDOWS 8 Mail app automatically showing the 5 email addresses listed automatically in To field while we compose a mail.
Want to disable this automatic email address display feature even if we dont enter any email.

Hi,
On my current version of built-in Mail app doesn’t have such behavior.
Would you please let me know the version of your Mail app? I will help you to do the further test and confirm what you mentioned, and the screenshot of what you mentioned is helpful for us to determine the issue.
I noticed that some updates may messed the Mail app, please reinstall the latest version of Mail, Calendar, and People suit to see what’s going on.

  • Mail.app shows my .mac inbox is empty.  all other tools show it is not.

a few days ago mail started acting strangely on my .mac account. it would indicate that i had a large number of unread messages in my .mac inbox, then when i looked at the inbox in mail, it would show up as empty.
i started to think that there must be some kind of problem, so i quit mail and checked via webmail. webmail can see all the msgs in my inbox. i quit and try mail.app again. same result (mail shows 0 messages).
i try forcing a "synchronize" from within mail (from the mailboxes menu). there is no change. i try a "rebuild" command from the mailbox menu. there is no change.
i try firing up entourage and it sees the mail in my inbox. i quit entourage and try mail again. no change (mail shows 0 messages).
i suspect that there is some kind of corruption or something either in the local state on my machine or perhaps a message which has some malformed headers or something which is sitting in my inbox and causing mail.app to be unable to properly download the mailbox contents.
i tried using webmail to go in and either delete the messages or move them aside to a separate temporary mailbox. back in mail.app, it sees the new temporary mailbox and at first indicates that it has ~40 or so unread msgs (which is true plus about 10 more read msgs), but when i actually click on the mailbox to look at it, it appears empty. i reconfirmed that webmail and entourage can both see ~50 msgs in the temp mailbox, but mail.app shows zero.
also, in addition, the same problem still holds for my inbox. so now when i send myself a test message, mail.app temporarily indicates that i have new mail, but then when i look in my inbox, nothing appears in mail.app. if i quit and go look at my inbox with webmail or entourage, i can see the new mail as expected.
i looked in system.log, console.log, and mail.log and didn't see any log msgs that seemed to relate to whatever problem mail was having reading the headers/contents from the server.
so i was trying to fix the problem by clearing out my inbox using webmail, but instead it appears that i have merely replicated the cause of the problem so that it now affects two folders instead of just one.
does anyone know of a way to definitively clear out a mailbox altogether on the server? it would be reassuring to know that there was not some hidden corrupt msg sitting in my inbox messing things up.
any other suggestions for how to get out of this state? thanks.
      Mac OS X (10.4.5)

oh forgot to mention a couple other clear signs that mail.app is "confused" here:
if i right click on a mailbox in the mailboxes window and select "get info..." (a very useful command hidden in an odd place), it shows me that right now my inbox has 3 messages and my temp mailbox has 50 messages. but when i look at either of these mailboxes normally, they show up with zero messages.
if i send myself a test message and then tell mail.app to check for mail, the new message indicator comes on and my inbox temporarily shows up as having 3 new messages. then when i click on it, it shows up as empty and the new message indicator goes away again. if i repeat this it will say 4 new messages, etc.
so it's acting like there's some kind of corrupt partial message at the top of my inbox that mail.app can't read and keeps choking on. i've had this happen before on other imap servers a while back. for those servers, i had normal login access, so i could go and edit or delete the offending file. in this case (apple's .mac server), i don't know how to do the equivalent.

  • Is there any ways to make Mail app show prefix and suffix in the address field?

I apologize for any inconvenience that my poor English may cause.
I would like to ask if there is a way to make Maill app show prefix and suffix in the address field.
This is, in my culture, very important, especially for formal situations. When I call someone such as professors, bosses, I should put prefix after their names to show my respect. In Microsoft Outlook, there is a field called 'Display as'.
    http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/contacts/contact-address-book-options-settings/
Therefore, I can choose how the name will be shown in my messages. For example, Prof. Kim instead of Kim. However, as far as I know, there isn't such options in Mail app. Is there any way that I can modify the way of displaying names in the address field in Mail app?

As far as I can determine, that is only how you see the email address, not how it is sent.
You can set up Prefixes and Suffixes in Contacts using the Add Field submenu of the Card menu:
If you use the Edit Template... command, you can choose to always have the Prefix and Suffix show on new cards.
However, I don't think Mail uses anything but First, Last for addressing emails.
You can override the behavior by manually with:
Prefix First Last Suffix <[email protected]>

  • Mail app not automatically deleting trash emails

    iTunes 11.1.2.32 Windows 7 32 Bit
    iPhone 4S (and iPhone 4)
    iOS 7.0.3
I have my own domain name for my email.
I can access via POP3 SSL and IMAP SSL
My first iPhone was a 4 which i used July 2010 to July 2012. I July 2012 i upgraded to my current 4S.
I use Windows Mail on my PC to access my email via POP3 SSL as i have no need to keep messages on a server any longer than i need to.
I use the Mail app on my iPhone to access the messages via IMAP SSL. Up until iOS 7 i would check my emails using the iPhone and delete any messages to the Trash folder On My iPhone (not on the server). I would have it set to delete the deleted messages After One Day so i had a 24 hour safety buffer.
This way i could use the iPhone as a quick check on my email and also use it as a Spam filter. If i needed to reply to an email from my iPhone I would and cc myself in if i needed a copy. One or twice a week i would fire up the PC and download the messages in the Inbox to the PC in Windows Mail.
This arrangement worked flawlessly for 3 years until i updated to iOS 7. Now the deleted messages in my Trash folder stay there until i manually remove them. I've tried:
-deleting and resetting up the account again in the iPhone
-changing the setting to One Month, saving the change and then setting it back to One Day and saving the setting.
-checked with my domain/email provider that i'm using the correct settings.
-changed IMAP Path Prefix from \ to INBOX, which works the first time but then fails to work again (i.e. each time i change it to \ and then back to INBOX it clears everything over a day old at that point but then doesn't do it again)
My wife has my old iPhone 4 without a SIM and uses it as an email checker for her account as well as for surfing the net and Facebook etc. She has the same setup as me (but seperate email account on my Domain) it all worked fine on that too until the update to iOS 7.
Is there a setting that might have gone out of line here or something i've missed?

There are actually two settings that could have a bearing on this:
Preferences > General > Check for New Mail
Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Include when automatically checking for new mail
Also, go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network > Show: Network Port Configurations, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
Do you have any Mail plug-ins or any system utilities that could interfere with Mail? In the Finder, go to each of the following folders (if they exist). What do you see there?
    /Library/StartupItems/
    /Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/Mail/Bundles/
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/
Also, open System Preferences, and go to Accounts > Login Items. What do you see there?
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the file path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the file path there.

  • Mail app using old Address Book group list

I have a strange problem. Using OS 10.7.2 and iCloud on my mac. I just removed all of the entries from a group contact in Address Book and added new ones. It shows up with the new list when I check my contacts on-line on iCloud.com.
The problem is in Mail.app. When I create a new message and type the group name, it is somehow using an old list of contacts for that group. I deleted everything from the "Previous Recipients" list thinking that would help, but it didn't.
Any idea why Mail is not using the address book correctly?
    Thanks.

A computer restart seems to have solved the problem.

  • Address Panel in Mail.app empty but Address Book app full

I recently updated to Mountain Lion. I have a mid-2011 iMac i7. I can't honestly say that it stopped working with the advent of Mountain Lion but it is the most recent change.
When I type a name in the Mail.app new email "To" field it will not read my contacts. The processing lined circle spins over on the right but never does anything. I looked in my contacts app and everything is fine. If I go into the mail.app and go to window->address panel it is empty. I am not using iCloud for contacts on any of my devices.
I tried searching a contact name from spotlight and it shows up under contacts... but hey, like i said, all my contacts are available in the contacts app.

Thunderbird does not have this problem, nor does Postbox. Both are now listed under security settings as having address book access. Mail.app is not listed as having access and there's not an option to add it.

  • My mail app opens automatically repeatedly

I'm using my macbook for 1 month and I switched from PC....I'm loving it!!! But I'm new and I'm having a problem with my mail app that for some reason it opens automatically every second...even if a remove the mail account (.mac)...it opens again and show me mail emails from my mac account....it recognizes automatically that I have a mac account and reconfigures it again.... There is no automator task, the new email validaton is set to manual.....so I don't know what happen......can someone help me?
    Thanks a lot

It just show 4 options....Remove from dock, Open at login, Show in Finder and Open...none of the previous are cheked.....
I had the same problem before installing Leopard.....The installation process was really smooth....But I though that with Leopard the prblem could be solved but I was not. Now Mail opens more frequently.
In reality the problem appeared after a week or so that I bought the computer.....I will ned to recall and go back in time to try to uninstall some of the applications I downloaded (codecs, and some organizing tools)... THIS MIGHT BE THE CAUSE
I tried to call the support line but it seems that Leopard is keeping they busy....It is impossible.
    Any way... I'll keep trying.
    Thanks!!!

  • Why does mail app show over 2,000 messages (not new) but only 10-12 in my inbox?

So I recenly got a new rMBP and have begun using the Mail app. I've had a bunch of problems with Gmail and the app but my my biggest gripe is that it seems to have downloaded over 2,000 messages from the server (of which I have no idea where its getting them because I've deleted pretty much everything in trying to solve this to the extent of completely wiping out my email folders). I wouldn't have such a problem with it except that it seems like its actually downloaded the 2,000+ messages onto my computer, no dobt taking up space (and its mildly annoying to me to always see 2,514 to the right of the "Gmail" folder in the left window)
I have tried emptying my mail completely including emptying the trash+deleting mail account from all apple devices and then restarting them before adding the mail account back.
Looking in random folders to make sure I haven't lost my marbles and theres a stash of emails lurking somewhere...
Again, deleting the accounts, powercycling the apple devices and then setting up mail again (just incase the first three times didn't work) and I'll mention that EVERY time I set up the account it imediately starts downloading the 2,000+ emails all over again (little windw shows up in bottom left counting down how many it has and how many there are left to go).
Any advise would be appreciated- I know its not huge but its driving me crazy!!
Just FYI I'm using the mail app simultaneously on a rMBP, iPad 4, and iPhone 5...

Go to Gmail (on the web) look in the folder named All Mail, they will be there, delete what you want.

  • IPhone Mail App showing "negative" number

Hey guys, for some reason my mail app on my iphone is showing a "negative 1" even though there is no mail. I deleted the account, re-entered all the information and it is still there. Also, when a new mail arrives it goes back to 0 (or no notification), once I delete that it goes back to -1. What's wrong? I have no clue what to do! Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

    Same problem here.
I have three accounts on my iPhone. 1 GMail, 1 IMAP and 1 MS Exchange. After I disabled the GMail account the IMAP account showed a negative new-emails badge. ( image: http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/3136/img0001boy.png )
I tried deleting the account and recreating it on the iPhone, but it didn't help. Also tried to re-enable the GMail account, also didn't help.
After I disabled the GMail account I watched some TED seminars using the TED application, which during one of these video's completely locked up the iPhone. I force-shut down the iPhone, started it back up again (took longer than normal). After the reboot the iPhone was showing erratic behavior (contacts would quit when pushing certain buttons, etc).
A few reboots later the erratic behaviour was gone, but I instead was left with the -2 email badge.
Hopefully this elaborate description of the events that took place will help someone locate the problem.

  • Spotlight SOMETIMES searches mail, but mail.app shows no results

    Hi folks,
I've been anxiously waiting for the Mavericks release, hoping it would, once-and-for-all, fix this aggravating issue I've had with spotlight mail searches.
I recently carried out a full wipe-and-reinstall on my iMac, by creating a bootable clone of my main desktop, then booting from that drive and using disk utility to erase my main hard drive, and selecting that drive in the Mavericks installer.  This means that I had a 100% pristine installation of Mavericks - no old preferences, no old settings, no weird filesystem permissions issues, and yet this problem STILL persists.
I have three different Gmail email accounts, all connected via IMAP, and all saving the emails locally for offline viewing (although I don't believe this is an option anymore in Mavericks).  When I first added these accounts to Mail.app, I was unable to search them either in Spotlight or in Mail.app.
I have since undergone multiple attempts to fix it, and occasionally during the process Spotlight has worked(although it shows multiple historical versions of sent mails due to auto-save), but searching from within Mail.app remained broken no matter what I did.
These are the things I've tried:
    running 'mdimport -r /Library/Spotlight/Mail.mdimporter'
adding and removing ~/Library/Mail to the spotlight 'do not index these files' privacy setting
adding and removing the entire hard drive to the 'do not index' list
using 'mdutil -E' to erase and rebuild the index
manually removing the Envelope Index files from ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData, then re-launching mail to force it to rebuild the index
using the menus within mail to rebuild the mailboxes
This has been broken for several versions of Mac OS, and it's obscene that there hasn't been any progress on the issue.  Please tell me that somebody has some new ideas that I haven't tried yet - I've been struggling with this headache literally for YEARS, and it has really soured me on an otherwise excellent Apple experience.

    I finally figured it out!
The trick was that I had some old versions of Mail.app in an archived folder, and these versions were screwing up spotlight, even though they haven't been run in years.  Removing the old versions, then updating the spotlight index and rebuilding the Envelope Index files seems to have fixed my search.
For others who, like me, have spent YEARS of constantly re-indexing things to fix it - there is an odd quirk in the way OS X associates files, where it seeks out Applications anywhere on your computer (including external hard drives), and the presence of those Applications can mess things up even if you aren't running them.  This seems to be rarely discussed in proposed solutions, but it was absolutely the fix for me.

  • Mail.app shows garbled Chinese character

Mail.app received a mail, which displayed fine in inbox listing. But showed only garbled characters after opening the mail. The mail itself shows no problem in gmail web interface.

There is nothing you can do to fix such problems on an iphone other than to try switching the language of your OS. Best report the problem to Apple via

  • Mail.app hangs on address autocomplete

This is an odd one. I'm having a hard time finding anyone else who's had a similar situation. Here's where the problem is:
    open Mail.app
    create new message
    begin typing in contact's name
autocomplete fills in the name and email address
get the pinwheel and Mail.app freezes
approximately 2 minutes later Mail.app unfreezes and the contact name is filled in
This happens with any name or email address that Mail.app recognizes in my address book. If I put in an unstored email address it works like usual without freezing. What's causing this?

    Thanks for the suggestions.
Address Book works just fine. I can search, edit, add, and delete just fine. No hangs, no freezes. I tried searching in Spotlight as well, everything was fine.
I went to Mail.app, pulled up the Previous Recipients window and removed all entries.  Shut down Mail, restarted it, tried out a new message, and the same problem occured.
I'm pretty sure the problem is with Mail, not with Address Book.

  • Mail.App shows me an rtx document with errors, then opens.

This happens upon restarting the iMac. What email address do I use to send Apple the rtf document of my MacMail issues?

Hello, Edward and thank you for your note.
I read through the thread you mentioned and it seems that people are having a lot of problems with the iCloud clients, so we're not alone, but the unique issue in my case is the failing email address vs. the working perfectly email address.
After reading your message tonight, I tried my setup again with the preferred Apple ID (the one without the "." between the names), and for the first time ever, IT WORKS. Mail app configured the servers both send and receive as p01-smtp.mail.me.com and p01-imap.mail.me.com. For the first time, I'm able to send and receive into the Mail app, create mailboxes, move messages into and out of mailboxes, keep Sent messages, etc.
I had a 50-minute support chat with MobileMe support via ExpressLane on Monday afternoon. They couldn't resolve my issue but passed me on to escalation. I was told to expect to get an email from advanced support by this afternoon, but none has arrived. However, so far tonight -- and I will check again tomorrow several times before declaring victory -- it looks like something has been fixed on the Apple end to make things work.
I will report back after I do some additional testing tomorrow to make sure the fix is real and is solid...and before I let my friend, the new Mac user, know the good news.
    Regards,
    Mike

  • After ios7 update, mail app showing 1 unread msg but there are no unread msgs. Fix?

After updating to iOS7, the mail app icon shows I have 1 unread message, however, all emails have been read. I logged in on the PC to make sure all were read. This also happened with a previous Android phone I had and there was no fix :/ I have tried restarting the phone and app itself but this hasn't worked so far.

If you've updated to IOS 7(GRRRRR) on your ipod/ipad/iphone you may be seeing you have dozens of unread emails in your inbox, even though you know you haven't.
This is a famous Apple glitch that they so far refuse to cure.
All the forums stick to the same line ie "mark all read" only to find it works only for the next email to come in and it's back again. I had 10000 odd from years back.
    Here's a solution,it works with Hotmail/Live Mail/Gmail and all web based emails;
Log into your webmail on a computer via your browser, create a folder called,Archive or something like that, highlight all your emails and move them to that box, your inbox will now be empty but you've lost nothing,go to your Apple object and restart it,all your emails will move to that box and now not appear on your phone-unless your last 250 haven't been read by the Apple server, these you can just mark as read on your gadget and it's sorted.
It's taken me 10 days to find this. Thanks Apple I've got better things to do!

  • Mail app shows 898 MB ... with no email accounts!

I am trying to help my wife troubleshoot storage issues with her iPhone 5. The mail app was very large (over 1 GB in size with only 45 emails, and no attachments), so I deleted her email account on her iPhone 5 and on her iPad 2. I rebooted both the iPhone and iPad. I verified that there are no mail accounts on ether device. When I choose the Mail app, I am greeted with a screen to set up an email account.
So I went to Settings > General > Usage and checked the size of the Mail app. On the iPad, it is 39.6 MB. On the iPhone it is 898 MB! When I click the "Open Mail" link the Mail app opens and I see the email setup screen.
How can the iPhone have 898 MB of space usage with no email accounts? It appears that there are corrupted files on the iPhone ... is there a way to remove those corrupted files without wiping the phone? Can I wipe the phone and then restore from an iCloud backup? And If I use an iCloud backup to restore the phone, will those corrupted files come right back? Any suggestions on fixing this issue with the storage of the Mail app?

Did you try sending a photo from the photo app?  The same exact thing happened to me, I clicked a couiple times on the bottom button (for changing screens) and I got all my other apps working, except the email app - doesn't work at all & I can't even get into the mail category in the settings app.
