Windowserver_last.log is too large

Hi,
My MacBook was suddenly left with Zero KB free on its drive, so I started some research and found this post (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5021191&#5021191) that helped me find that my windowserver_last log file is 16GB (!!!).
I've already removed the widget that (I think) caused the flood in the log. Since after I freed some space on my drive, the log isn't cumulating anymore.
To make a long story short, I just want to know what the repeating msg in the log means, so I know that the problem is really solved:
(ipc/rcv) invalid name: CGXRunOneServerPass: mach_msg (gServiceSet) failed (last RPC: LaunchAppRequestWithAuditInfo)
Thanks for the help!!
PiTZiK.

Hello Matt, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Open Console in Applications>Utilities, select that Log and choose delete it.
Also, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go., then use Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities to Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishe.
Report outcome please.

  • EM Application Log and Web Access Log growing too large on Redwood Server

    Hi,
We have a storage space issue on our Redwood SAP CPS Orcale servers and have found that the two log files above are the main culprits for this. These files are continually updated and I need to know what these are and if they can be purged or reduced down in size.
They have been in existence since the system has been installed and I have tried to access them but they are too large. I have also tried taking the cluster group offline to see if the file stops being updated but the file continues to be updated.
Please could anyone shed any light on this and what can be done to resolve it?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Jason

    Hi David,
    The file names are:
    em-application.log and web access.log
    The File path is:
    D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\oc4j\j2ee\OC4J_DBConsole_brsapprdbmp01.britvic.BSDDRINKS.NET_SAPCPSPR\log
    Redwood/CPS version is 6.0.2.7
    Thanks for your help.

My LMS 4.0.1 platform is installed since several days and I have a very large ani.log file (> 300 MB after 4 days of daemons running).

However, all seems to be working fine on the platform (layer2 maps, data collection, inventory, config backup, UT, DFM, ...).
For informations, recently, I was in contact with TAC because Data Collection was always in running state.
They provided a new PortDetailsXml.class file to replace the original one.
    It has fixed the problem.
I suspect now that ani database could be corrupted and need to be reinitialized.
I would to be sure of that and if possible to avoid this solution.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi ,
Found some errors and exception in the log..
We need to follow the below steps to fix the issue::
-we need to re-initialize the ANIdatabase ::
    1.stop the daemon manager :
    /etc/init.d/dmgtd stop
    net stop crmdmgtd
    2.Go to : /opt/CSCOpx/bin/ and issue the command :
    Run the below command:    /opt/CSCOpx/bin/perl dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=ani dmprefix=ANI
    windows::
    NMSROOT\bin\perl.exe NMSROOT\bin\dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=ani dmprefix=ANI
    3.Start the Daemon manager ::
    /etc/init.d/dmgtd start
    net start crmdmgtd
***IMP***   Re-initialize the ANI database will not lose any of the history information of the device.  Also ANI database does not contain any historical information as soon as the above steps are complete you need to run and new DATA COLLECTION followed by User tracking Acquisition and then check the issue.
Data collection:: Go to  Admin > Collection Settings > Data Collection > Data Collection Schedule   under "start Data Collection" > For "All Device"  >> click "START"
User tracking :: Inventory > User Tracking Settings > Acquisition Actions
    hope it will help
    Thanks-

  • Ons.log getting too many and too large

    Hi,
Just recently when I tried to connect to our staging database I found that I couldn't connect and it gave me the "disk is full" error. It was quite amazing because the archive logs were not large nor were their any backups on it. And it was a 200g disk partition. After doing some research we found out the the ons logs were the problem. There was probably like 40 or so log files and each was a gig and a half in size. My question is what causes these logs to be created and how can we manage them. Because we have development environment and it was setup exactly the same way as the staging, but we never had a problem like that on it (dev). How can we turn the logging off?
    Thank you.

  • Mac Mini display is too large for screen on only one user account

Okay, so I left my two year olds alone for a minute playing the "alphabet game" on my Mac Mini. They only had the keyboard, no mouse but managed to muck up my display leaving me a bit frustrated.  The screen is now too large for my Samsung display. The only way to see everything (dock, top bar, etc) is to move my mouse arrow to the end of my display and see it roll back onto the page.  I've checked the settings there and they are fine. The MacBook Pro plugs right in and is proper resolution. So I then wondered if another account on the Mac Mini would do the same thing. I logged out of my Admin account and into another and everything looks just dandy. I log back into my Admin account and it's too large and blurry again. The resolution is set correct at 1920x1080 at 60 Hz.
What button did they push on my keyboard that would do this and how do I get it back?? Aargh! Thanks all!

Ha, figured it out myself from another discussion forum finally. Thoght I'd share in case anyone else runs into this. They must have hit "Zoom" by htting the "Control" and scroll buttons at the same time..
    Resolution:
You can zoom out by holding down the Option and Command buttons on the keyboard and, while you hold them down, pressing the - key.

  • TIme Machine  backup grows too large during backup process

I have been using Time Machine without a problem for several months, backing up my imac - 500GB drive with 350g used. Recently TM failed because the backups had finally filled the external drive - 500GB USB. Since I did not need the older backups, I reformatted the external drive to start from scratch. Now TM tries to do an initial full backup but the size keeps growing as it is backing up, eventually becoming too large for the external drive and TM fails. It will report, say, 200G to back up, then it reaches that point and the "Backing up XXXGB of XXXGB" just keeps getting larger. I have tried excluding more than 100GB of files to get the backup set very small, but it still grows during the backup process. I have deleted plist and cache files as some discussions have suggested, but the same issue occurs each time. What is going on???

    Michael Birtel wrote:
Here is the log for the last failure. As you see it indicates there is enough room 345g needed, 464G available, but then it fails. I can watch the backup progress, it reaches 345G and then keeps growing till it give out of disk space error. I don't know what "Event store UUIDs don't match for volume: Macintosh HD" implies, maybe this is a clue?
No. It's sort of a warning, indicating that TM isn't sure what's changed on your internal HD since the previous backup, usually as a result of an abnormal shutdown. But since you just erased your TM disk, it's perfectly normal.
    Starting standard backup
Backing up to: /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb

Backup content size: 309.5 GB excluded items size: 22.3 GB for volume Macintosh HD
No pre-backup thinning needed: 345.01 GB requested (including padding), 464.53 GB available
This is a completely normal start to a backup. Just after that last message is when the actual copying begins. Apparently whatever's happening, no messages are being sent to the log, so this may not be an easy one to figure out.
First, let's use Disk Utility to confirm that the disk really is set up properly.
First, select the second line for your internal HD (usually named "Macintosh HD"). Towards the bottom, the Format should be +Mac OS Extended (Journaled),+ although it might be +Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled).+
Next, select the line for your TM partition (indented, with the name). Towards the bottom, the Format must be the same as your internal HD (above). If it isn't, you must erase the partition (not necessarily the whole drive) and reformat it with Disk Utility.
Sometimes when TM formats a drive for you automatically, it sets it to +Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled).+ Do not use this unless your internal HD is also case-sensitive. All drives being backed-up, and your TM volume, should be the same. TM may do backups this way, but you could be in for major problems trying to restore to a mis-matched drive.
Last, select the top line of the TM drive (with the make and size). Towards the bottom, the *Partition Map Scheme* should be GUID (preferred) or +Apple Partition Map+ for an Intel Mac. It must be +Apple Partition Map+ for a PPC Mac.
If any of this is incorrect, that's likely the source of the problem. See item #5 of the Frequently Asked Questions post at the top of this forum for instructions, then try again.
If it's all correct, perhaps there's something else in your logs.
Use the Console app (in your Applications/Utilities folder).
When it starts, click +Show Log List+ in the toolbar, then navigate in the sidebar that opens up to your system.log and select it. Navigate to the +Starting standard backup+ message that you noted above, then see what follows that might indicate some sort of error, failure, termination, exit, etc. (many of the messages there are info for developers, etc.). If in doubt post (a reasonable amount of) the log here.

    Hi,
What the last configuration option did you add?
Try to disable the ViewState of the .Net control in the web part.
    Or
Add following into web.config(C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\ 14\UserCode) to avoid sandbox webpart error after post back.
<httpRuntime requestLengthDiskThreshold=”4096” /> (or set value as per your requirement)
Here is a blog for you to take a look at:

  • XMLTRANSFORM Too large stylesheet - code buffer overflow issue

    Hi All,
My question is related to MSWordML generation from PLSQL stored procedure.
    1. I have table, containing XSLT stylesheets for different documents
    2. PLSQL stored procedure is generating dynamic content depending on some params and at the end I'm using
    SELECT XMLTRANSFORM(XMLTYPE.createxml(db_data_clob), XMLTYPE.createxml(x.xslt_clob)).GetClobVal()
    INTO   res
    FROM   msword_ml_data x
    WHERE  x.report_id = rep_id_variable;
where : x.xslt_clob -> column, containing XSLT CLOB
    db_data_clob -> dynamic content CLOB
    res -> CLOB result
All this was working fine on Oracle11gR1, but I had to reinstall database and I said why not install Oracle11gR2 ...
Guess what. Stored procedure is raising exception when using XMLTRANSFORM :
    Exception : : ORA-31011: XML parsing failed
ORA-19202: Error occurred in XML processing
LPX-00004: internal error "Too large stylesheet - code buffer overflow"
Google says nothing about it. I don't recall setting some special DB property in Oracle11gR1.
    Has anyone encountered this ?
I haven't changed procedure nor table.
I'm using exactly the same XSLT's from Java code and they are working just fine, so they are not the reason. My guess is that something in Oracle11gR2 related to XML processing is changed.
If anyone could help, thanks in advance

    For those who are interested.
I have logged a service request and it turned out that this is is a bug in Oracle 11gR2.
"The limitation on the style sheet is not exactly a size limit but a limitation on the number of style sheet instructions and depends on the way the style sheet has been written. This is a C based parser limitation"
Anyway, the workaround is to create Java stored procedure and do transformation from there.

  • Result Set Too Large : Data Retrieval restricted by configuration

    Hi Guys,
I get the above error when running a large dataset, with a hierarchy on - but when I run without a hierarchy I am able to show all data.
The Basis guys increased the ESM buffer (rsdb/esm/buffersize_kb) but it still causes an issue.
Anyone any ideas when it comes to reporting large volumes with a hierarchy?
    Much appreciated,
    Scott

    Hi there
I logged a message on service marketplace andg got this reply from SAP:
' You might have to increase the value for parameters
    BICS_DA_RESULT_SET_LIMIT_DEF and BICS_DA_RESULT_SET_LIMIT_MAX as it
seems that the result set is still too large. Please check your
parameters as to how many data cells you should expect and set the
    parameter accordingly.
The cells are the number of data points that would be send from abap
to java. The zero suppression or parts of the result suppression are
done afterwards. As a consequence of this, the number of displayed
data cells might differ from the threshold that is effective.
Starting with SPS 14 you get the information how many data cells are
rejected. That gives you better ways to determine the right setting.
Currently you need to raise the number to e.g. 2.000.000 to get all
    data.
If BICS_DA_RESULT_SET_LIMIT_MAX is set to a lower value than
BICS_DA_RESULT_SET_LIMIT_DEF, it would automatically cut the value of
    BICS_DA_RESULT_SET_LIMIT_DEF down to its own..
Please note that altough this parameter can be increased via
configuration, you should do a proper system sizing according to note
927530 to ensure that the system can handle the number of users and
    resultset sizes you are expecting."
Our basis team have subsequently apllied these changes, and I will be testing today.
    Thx

  • Error on activating the table "DB length of the key of table too large"

    Hi Experts,
I am getting the error while activating my table PSM_REQ_BO_ELM_NAME.  Activation error log is as follows
"DB length of the key of table PSM_REQ_BO_ELM_NAME is too large (>900)"..
I have a table which has 4 filed as key one with char 6 and rest 3 with char 120 each.
Could you please help me to get rid of this error.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Pradeep

When ever we create a table in Data dictionary, a corresponding database table will be created in Data base server. For the primary key we maintained in Data Dictionary, another data base table will be created seperately where as the table length should not exceed some limit set by the Administrator.
So, Reduce the length of the primary key in the table by deleting the field as key field/ reducing the size of the field.
In your case, maintain the primary key field length not more than 400.
***Length if the Primary key should not exceed 120. other wise performance will be low while fetching the data.

    Thankyou,
Being the OIM noob that I am, had no idea where to look.
We do indeed have some user defined fields of 4000 characters.
I am now wondering if I can disable auditing, or maybe increase the size of the auditing database column?
Also, I guess I should raise a defect in OIM as the User Interface should not allow the creation of a user field for which auditing is unable to cope.
I also wonder if the audit failures (other than causing lots of stack traces) causes any transaction failures due to transaction rollbacks?

  • "This backup is too large for the backup volume" - Info

Hi there. I had a problem with my time machine and got an error stating "This backup is too large for the backup volume". I did noticed after logging in that TM was indexing in the upper right corner [magnifier with a flashing dot(spotlight)] for a few seconds. So then I went on to "back up now" and it was preparing and then I got the Error message described above. So I uninstalled my anti-virus (you must disable auto protection/or exclude timemachine.app and its plist file (location below)from Anti-virus preferences in the case you have a anti-virus app, otherwise it will take forever to back up.) though that was not my issue. I then turn off time machine and deleted this .plist file in Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > com.apple.TimeMachine.plist....STOP here if this fixed your problem after restarting. Time machine External Drive in Disk Utility **THESE STEPS WILL ERASE YOUR ENTIRE BACKUPS** ( "Erase" and rename or "partition" to make more that one partition on the External Drive if you wish, and Rename) (Disk utility> Partition tab> "option" you must - guid=intel / apple partition map=PowerPC)...sorry alot of newbie out there...by deleting the "com.apple.TimeMachine.plist" = when you plug in you TM it will ask you if you want to use the drive as a TM back up automatically. This did the trick. But to let you guys know I also used Cocktail (app) and used a feature it has to erase my computers spotlight index and rebuild it. Also in Cocktail, when you have your time machine plugged in you can erase its index and disable it all together. I recommend you first disable spotlight (before the first initial TM backup) in system preferences > spotlight> Privacy (tab) and plus to add time machine ...which has to be mounted (plugged in) to add from window under "Devices".

  • Time Machine Error - The backup is too large for the backup disk

I have been using Lion (currently 10.7.1) on my MacBook Pro (13" - early 2011) since it was released.  I haven't had any serious problems with it.
All of a sudden, I am getting an error in Time Machine.  When it tries to run a backup, the error "This backup is too large for the backup disk.  The backup requires 7.51 GB but only 630.1 GB are available."  What gives?  That's plenty of room.  I have installed Logic Studio and a few plug-ins, so the 7.51 GB is probably right.  The free space is correct as well.  I can't understand what the problem is.
The backup disk is an external USB 2.0 drive with no other Time Machine backups on it or any other files.  The folder "Backups.backupdb" is the only thing on the root of the disk.
I am reluctant to reset the Time Machine and lose all of the backups, but I will if anyone recommends it.

    Hi Linc,
It is not working at the moment, as I have restored the original Lion image again; it has all my work and apps on it.
Many thanks for the info on the log, though.  It tells a strange story.  Here's the log from the last backup that worked to the first one that failed: --

Sep 13 10:35:03 Johns-MacBook-Pro com.apple.backupd[287]: Backup failed with error: Not enough available disk space on the target volume.
I don't understand.  For starters, I think it's a little wasteful that 3.5 GB has been used to back up 601 KB.  That's the difference in free space on the backup volume between the two backups.  That can't be normal, surely.
The only error is that mds[32] error, and from what I've read on forums, that seems to appear on backups that work perfectly.
Too weird.  It looks like I'll have to reinstall Lion and all my applications again to get Time Machine working, or find another backup solution.
