  • Oracle 10g on windows - RAC & grid ?

From the materials that I have read, got to know that Grid computing concept exploits uses RAC technology and few others like ASM, Transportable Tablespaces, distributed SQL features, Oracle Streams etc
So, what is Grid Control Management ?
Grid Control Management CD is not avaible for Windows yet
    (not listed in - http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/oem/index.html)
But 10g RAC for windows is available
Foll document specifies installation details for the same http://otn.oracle.com/pls/db10g/db10g.to_toc?pathname=..%2F..%2Fhtml%2FB13829_01%2Ftoc.htm&remark=portal+%28Getting+Started%29
So, I think I can configure 10g RAC on Windows and thus can get the basic configuration of grid done
Only thing is I won't be having any utilities or GUI tools etc to control the grid
    Am I right ?
Please let me know the details
    Thanks

What is missing, I suspect, is reading the installation docs.
    http://docs.oracle.com
If that doesn't work then come back and ask specific requestions referencing the appropriate document and naming the actual version you are trying to install (ps 10g is a marketing name not a version number).

  • Windows, RAC and network card problems... ?

    Dear friends,
    I've a problem! :)
    Here are some info:
    Node Hardware:
         Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E7430 @2.13GHz (2 processors)
         Installed memory(RAM): 52.0 GB
         System type: 64-bit OS
Windows edition: Windows server 2008 R2 Enterprise
    Network cards (Shown by WIN):
PublicLAN: HP NC373i Multifunction Gigabit Server Adapter
PrivateLAN: HP NC373T PCle Multifunction Gig Server Adapter
Offline: HP NC373T PCIe Multifunction Gig Server Adapter
    Software:
Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise (Very last updates from MS)
Oracle RAC 11.2.0.2.0 (Clusterware, DB) – 2 nodes
    Environment:
AD network. Everything is MS based.
    Problem description:
During RAC installation, company had only one network card (server network card, per node). Installation was successfully finished. RAC was/is in production. Has some problems, but noting for alarm.
This days, we get other network cards. (purpose: network redundancy).
    RAC shutdown was clean.
Network card inserted to nodes by OS Admin.
    Nodes was started up... and...
OS Admin disabled network card immediately after logon screen was available... but to late...
Windows changed network card order!!! PublicLAN was not at the first place when Cluster started (Network and sharing center -> change adapter settings -> Advanced (from menu) -> Advanced Settings -> Adapters and Bindings)!!! (I found in logs that MAC address changed at this point!)
Cluster started hardware reconfiguration... and... we could not stop CW till starting up finished... ! After stopping CW again, we set PublicLan at first place, and every win setting was as at the moment of installation.
Cluster was started again, DB, OEM too...
Everything is working. Client can connect to DB, applications work well... but...
Damage is done... now we have totally new IP situation inside... changes are saved to the DNS, too!!!
Before inserting network card IP settings (nslookup from any client) :
    rac1 192.168.217.60
    rac1-vip 192.168.217.62
    rac2 192.168.217.61
    rac2-vip 192.168.217.63
    rac-scan 192.168.217.64
    192.168.217.65
    192.168.217.66
After this incident (nslookup from any client):
    rac1 192.168.217.60
    192.168.217.62
    192.168.217.64
    192.168.217.66
    rac2 192.168.217.61
    192.168.217.63
    192.168.217.65
    192.168.217.66
VIP and SCAN IP address are the same as before...
nslookup show as that rac1,rac2,rac-scan change IP addresses in round-robin scenario!!!
We stopped RAC couple of time and OS Admin cleared DNS records (both zone)... but every start of cluster make changes again in DNS.
    Other "side-effects":
Some cluster commands, invoked from CMD, fire errors (lsnodes, cluvfy comp nodecon -n rac1,rac2).
Configuration files seem to be correct (listeners, scan, scan_listeners, etc). srvctl and crsctl command are working without errors. oifcfg too.
Logs are full of errors (like: ASM could not be reached... no listener)
    Listener(s) stop working sometime...
Relocation of resource are not possible.
Well, I mentioned the most important things... other alerts and errors in logs are present, but everything is connected with this issue, I think...
As I said: RAC working. Clusterware, DB, OEM, connections, applications, backup... everything look good... but we have a problem!!!
Any ideas, any suggestion, any link, any advice, anything are welcome!
    Thanks!
    PS.
Metalink haven't any document about this... I've found a lot of examples for changing IP's, interfaces, interconnection... but noting about fixing problem!

I'm having the same issue. My desktop pc keeps dropping the connection to my network (airport extreme router) while the rest of my devices (macbook pro, xbox, mac mini) still stay connected. The pc never had this issue prior to installing Windows 7 so im guessing there must be something with the Windows 7 OS.

  • Replication on windows RAC ( Argent)

can i do a replication from oracle 7 to RAC 9.2.0.6 on windows server 2003 ?
    and how ?

    Hi,
Authentication is enabled if you configure a pre-shared secret.
The shared secret is used for providing message authentication for the DHCP Failover messages (IP address lease synchronization) exchanged between the 2
DHCP servers in a failover relationship.
    DHCP Failover Communications
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn338987.aspx
DHCP failover replication require user initiation, you can also do this by using the following script
Automatic syncing of configuration changes between 2 DHCP failover servers
    http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Auto-syncing-of-configurati-6eb54fb0#content
    Maximum   client lead time (MCLT))
The   maximum amount of time that one server can extend a lease for a DHCP client   beyond the time known by the partner server.
    State   switchover interval
The   interval after which a DHCP server automatically transitions its failover   partner to a partner down state after loss of communication.
For more information you can refer to:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn338985.aspx
    Hope this helps.

  • Is it possible to unformat an OCFS formatted disk in windows RAC

Hello: I have a drive formatted as ocfs on windows. But, I want it to be unformatted, and given back to the storage for reformatting as ASM. How can this be done?
    Thanks

    Macologist250,
to use Boot Camp, Windows must be on your MacBook Pro’s internal disk. You could try a virtualizer such as VirtualBox or Parallels Desktop if you’d rather have Windows on an external disk.

  • New implementation - Client having issues with RAC and Grid on Windows

Client is starting a new implmenetation on Windows 2008 R1, Oracle 11.1.0.7. They have a 3 node RAC and Grid Control. They are having a number of issues and support is working through those issues. They are asking if there are clients on RAC and Grid on Windows. The Wiki shows a few customers on Windows, but was hoping to get some feedback. Tks.

There are lots of customer applications that are based on Windows RAC. And as mentioned above, it is very well supported by Oracle.
However, because of the security vulnerabilities of Windows, I've observed that most of the financial institutions and listed companies opt for unix based servers for all high profile applications and run only low to medium risk application on Windows.
Regarding maintanence issues, I guess it's going to be pretty much the same; there shall always be lots of bugs, lots of patches and updates just like an yother software; doesn't really matter if you are on Unix or Windows systems. As long as you purchase support, it's all good.
It's pretty much same concern regarding Grid Control on windows.
    Cheers.

  • Brarchive not backing up offline redo log on RAC

Hi all Oracle and SAP experts,
After running brarchive on my newly setup RAC system, the program reports that there are 'No offline redo log files found for processing'. Hence, non of the archive log files are being backup.
Tons of archive log files are generated in the archive log directory. I do not understand why brarchive is unable to locate these files.
There are 2 Windows RAC nodes. I used the command 'brarchive -u / -c force -p initTST.sap -sd' to trigger brarchive. It is using rman to backup to a windows shared folder. And the brbackup runs successfully.

My current database incarnation is 681026106 but brarchive is searching for archivelog from incarnation 987656789 (1_1_987656789.dbf). As a workaround, I created dummy files (eg. 1_1_987656789.dbf') for each node and managed to trick brarchive into believing these are the real files. Subsequent backup works fine. Thanks Michael!

  • Install RAC  using vmware

    Hi,
I am trying to install RAC 10g using vmware . I have windows vista 64bit as host OS. Now the problem i am facing during installation of vmware . if i try to install vmware server it's not being installed on vista as its not been supported by vista 64bit OS. if i try to install vmware workstation 6.5 it install fine but again it doesn't support clustering hence can't proceed with installation. Does some has installed RAC on same kind of configuration . Please share with me. Would be a great help.
    Edited by: user7245803 on Jul 2, 2009 10:12 AM

You MUST NOT use VMware Server to try install RAC!
You CAN DO it with VMware Workstation 6.5!
When use VMware Workstation 6.5 you get the message:

  • Kbssv error on RAC

Has any one out there encountered the ksbsrv error :-
'no startup aknowledgement from forked process after 3 mins'
on a windows RAC configuration using 9.2.0.5?
We have had this error on one of our 4 nodes. This rendered the entire database unusable through the application, but the 3 unaffected nodes were accessble through sqplus(beq access?)
The problem was rectified by restarting the effected node, which had high CPU despite the fact that the rdbms was unuasable..we suspect an orphaned process......
We are looking at possible causes as changes in OS, and DB init parameters as causes, as well as poor coding..anything else we should be looking at?
    Any other information gratefully received..
    Thanks

The application connects to one of 4 application servers, each of which creates connection pools on each of the 4 instances on start up.
It was possible to connect through sqlplus, so reason to believe that TNS names is the problem, but the loss of the one instance seems to cause the application to be unable to connect to any other instance.
There is the error in the alert log suggest an os resource error we cannot identify, we do not what has caused run away process that killed the node- could be the resource issue or appplication, and dont really understand why the whole database appears to hang.

Have you found a reason for this error.
I'm not using RAC, but occasionally we receive this error
and have to reboot the dataase.
Oracle TAR and research netted, that we should make sure the listener
log never over 200mg. So I've setup a routine to clean out the
listener log while the db is still running 24x7.
oct 3 and again today the database hung with this error and listener.log
was well within the 200mg limits.

  • Having issues with gotoURL and open new window

I am having trouble opening a new browser window with the gotoURL
script. This is the current FormCalc that I am using.
    $host.gotoURL("http://www.google.com",1)
I am wondering if this is working as expected? My PDF does not open
into a new window in any browser or Adobe Reader. Is anybody aware of
this problem? I have hyperlinks on my form that I am trying to get to
open in a new window using FormCalc scripts.
Appreciate any help. I am trying find out if this is bug, or is working
as expected, or if there is another script to accomplish this?
    Thanks,
    Rebecca

    Cheers.

  • Virtual RAC11gR2 On Windows (only) Enviroment

My client asked for an "Windows Only" installation, using a Virtualization software, for a 2 or 3 node RAC11gR2.
If someone here passed through this kind of setup please drop me a link or other information.
    Oracle version must be 11.2
Windows version can be 2003 or 2008.
    Many thanks.

This is not going to be a production enviroment, but my client requires it to be Windows 2003 as guest OS at least (RAC on Virtual Windows).
According to Note 464754.1, databases on Windows as guest OS, will be supported when their tests finish - obviously they are not even talking about virtual cluster on virtualized windows RAC. Last update on this Note was 18-MAY-2010.

  • RAC 10G With SAN storage

    Dear all

  • DNS caching problem when configuring Windows clients for SCAN

I have a Windows 2008 R2 server running apps that connect to a RAC cluster database using the SCAN address. The SCAN address however always returns the same IP when you ping it from that server. If I flush the DNS cache I get a different address, but again the same one all the time. I believe this is caused by the fact that DNS caching is enabled on Windows by default. This has caused problems when one of the RAC nodes goes south and the cached SCAN IP is not responding. The applications lose their connections, try to reconnect, but can't because they keep using the same dead SCAN IP.
I suggested we disable the DNS Client service on those machines so that the SCAN name correctly cycles through the addresses but the Windows admin says not to do this. Is there a documented practice somewhere that this is OK to do for Windows RAC clients? Or is there a way to disable caching just on the SCAN name but leave it enabled from every other host name?
    TIA

What happened was the SCAN VIP did not fail over. The node VIP did not fail over. The database instance was running but I could not connect to it even locally as sysdba. I got the message "protocol adapter error". This normally only occurs on Windows for local connections when either (a) the Oracle service is not running, or (b) you didn't set the ORACLE_SID variable correctly. Neither was true.
I tried "crsctl stop crs" but it could not stop the listeners.
I rebooted the server. During the reboot, neither the VIP no SCAN VIPs failed over. It's almost as if CRS either didnt recognize tat the other node had been shutdown, or it didn't care.
I have never seen this happen before.
For the record this is Oracle RAC 11.2.0.1.
