Wine is in unreadable language [solved]

I can't even determine what kind of language it is...definately something Eastern, but the symbols don't seem to match anything I've ever seen.  I was trying to use the wow-patched wine from the AUR, BTW, thanks Wolfman, but then I went to install *wow*, that was the first problem I noticed.  The terminal outputs this:
fixme:richedit:RichEditANSIWndProc WM_SETFONT: stub
Missing symbol {LanguageCode}! (SymbolTable::UnmappedSymbolSubstitution)
fixme:richedit:IRichEditOle_fnGetClientSite stub 0x1006a220
fixme:ole:OleCreateStaticFromData (not shown), stub!
I would think it's somehow related to the riched20 and riched32 dlls, but considering wine can't figure out what language it's supposed to run in at all, then I don't know what to say.

What's that about? If you're trying to bump your thread this isn't allowed here. Just wait until someone responds, if no one does. Then we simply don't have an answer for you. Try posting at WinHQ or ask around the IRC channel.
  No, sorry, it's actually not the easiest way to explain how I wound up with that post.  It was actually a late double-post related to what appears to be a firefox bug with my mouse scroll-wheel. So I just edited it to say "***".  Sorry for not explaining this.  Read you loud and clear, though.  I posted at winehq yesterday.  As far as I'm concerned, this thread is dead, because the fonts error is fixed.

  • Is Satellite C50-A441 preinstalled with Win 8.1 English language?

    I haven't managed to get a straight answer on the microsoft forum so am posting here.
    The following product ( [C50-A441|http://www.toshibamea.com/ComputerProduct/4/Satellite_C50-A441/52956?pageid=4] ) is advertised as Windows 8.1 Single Language 64-bit (pre-installed).
    I am currently based in the middle east and asked in the shop if the language was US English but I did not get a clear answer and I don't want to buy a laptop with Arabic.
    Is there any way to know if it is in US English (I am not able to test before purchasing...).
    Many Thanks.

    The Satellite C50-A441 PSCGJV-009001AR was preinstalled with Toshiba image containing the Windows 8.1 in Arabic language.

  • Wine for Arch Linux? [SOLVED]

    I used sudo pacman -S wine. It said target not found. Is this not in the AUR or something? There is no download option from the wine website. I read some people were able to get Assassins creed to run normally with wine, so I wanted to try it out.

  • CS6 / Win: Test with different languages

    Hi
    I installed the debug version of Indesign CS6. The GUI is in german.
    I like to test other languages (English US and English UK). Can I change the language of Indesign temporarly to test this?
    Thanks
    Hans

    Hi Steve,
    Please take the following methods to have a check .
    Option 1.) Disabling the Autocorrect in the "Manage Add-Ons" Section is not possible, because there is no such Option ("Spelling Correction")
    Option 2.) Disabling the Autocorrect in the Windows Settings (PC-Settings -> PC & Devices -> Typing -> Spelling) is turned to "Off".
    We also can try to rename the MsSpellCheckingFacility.dll (C:\Windows\System32\MsSpellCheckingFacility.dll)file to MsSpellCheckingFacility(2).dll to have a check .
    Best regards

    From there I installed the newly created package following the AUR User Guidelines:

    For Win XP Pro users with 1 HDD:
    1.  Go to Device Manager
    2.  Select IDE Controller
    3.  Select Primary Channel (assuming HDD is connected to IDE1 which according to the MSI manual should be the case)
    4.  Click on the Advance Setting Tab
    5.  On Device 1, Select None for Device Type and click OK
    6.  Wait for a while because it takes some time for the window to close
    And that's it !!!  I did tried the bootvis optimization first but only about 5 seconds were taken off from the start up.  I also took out the jumper in my WD HDD and even replaced my IDE cable.  Before my discovery, it took 2 mins to boot my PC.  Now it only takes 30 sec (i.e., from Win XP logo to desktop).
    Hope it works for you guys.  Good Luck !!!

  • ThinkVantage Active Protection System Dissapeared after Win 8.1 Upgrade

    The ThinkVantage Active Protection System dissapeared from my ThinkPads after upgrading to Win 8.1.
    I was going to reinstall it from the Lenovo ThinkVantage page but the Win 8 64bit version is not available for download.
    Oddly enough, the 32bit version is available.
    Is this a temporary situation?  Will there be a Win 8.1 version?
    Can someone from Lenovo explain what to expect?

    OK, Active Protection 64 bit for Win 8.1 is now available for download and working great!
    I guess I panicked and was thinking that Lenovo would quit supporting this excellent tool (It has happened before)!

    i look forward to answer about the this issue.

    Problem solved as the issue was to do with the microsoft account.  Ever since Windows 8 I've had many issues on other peoples laptops and my own just because Microsoft want you to have your Skype account linked into your windows account. Previously I've re-installed Skype from scratch in Win 7 type mode and solved the problem and with my Skype which I'd re-installed. I had to unlink it from my Microsoft account.
    Clearly and unbeknown to me, Microsoft must have linked it during an update of Skype and that caused Skype to close immediately it had launched. Unchecked the link in Skype and problem solved.  Why cant MS leave things alone if they aint broke !!!!!!

    I'm having the same problem as you. Have you had any luck with help yet?

  • Log in issues with Win 8.1 lap top and Android dev...

    To say that I'm annoyed is an understatement.  First off was the issue that just surfaced with Skype on my laptop and PC.  I would be logged into Skype and then for no reason it would shut down, not crash but shut down as though I closed it myself.  I tried two wi-fi networks I have access to and it happened on both.  Then I installed skype on a desk top and it happened again.  Sometimes it would fire up and immediately shut down.  Eventually I found a solution on line by unlinking my windows 8 account to Skype and the problem stopped happening.  My belief is Windows forced an update on Skype that linked it to my MS account without telling me.  Thanks MS, that was really unhelpful and it took me a week to fix.
    Then I have tried logging into Skype on my Android phone, 10 inch tablet and Kindle HDX.  Cannot connect to Skype, try entering some rediculously long code they email me but nada, it wont connect.  What on earth is going on here as it used to work fine before MS got hold of Skype.

  • Windows 9x support in WINE appears to be broken.

    Previously I was running OrCAD 10.5 suite flawlessly under Wine in my 64 Arch Install. To make one of the programs included in the suite work (layout.exe) I had to configure it to run as Windows 98, but that's all I needed to do to get the suite running.
    In a recen system upgrade, it stopped working. All the programs in the suite excepting layout.exe work, but when I launch layout.exe, it eats 100% CPU, but doesn't start, and I get the following error on the terminal window:
    WINEPREFIX=$OPATH wine layout.exe
    modify_ldt: Invalid argument
    modify_ldt: Invalid argument
    modify_ldt: Invalid argument
    modify_ldt: Invalid argument
    modify_ldt: Invalid argument
    After googling a bit, I found that it looks like there is a problem with 16 bit calls on latest kernel causing win16 programs to fail. I don't know if layout.exe is win16, but it might be. But as I only was experiencing the problem when Windows 9x mode was enabled (using winecfg), I decided to create a clean winebottle and do a simple test:
    First create the clean winebottle:
    $ WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=/home/doragasu/wine/test wineboot
    And then run built-in commands that I suppose are 32-bit (is there a way I can know for sure?):
    $ WINEPREFIX=/home/doragasu/wine/test winecfg
    $ WINEPREFIX=/home/doragasu/wine/test wineconsole
    Both winecfg, wineconsole and others run as expected. Next step is running again winecfg to configure this winebottle to behave as Windows 98. Once this is done, I cannot start anything, neither winecft nor wineconsole work anymore, 100% cpu is taken by wine, and the "modify_ldt: Invalid argument" is again displayed on the terminal window. So it looks like not only win16 applications are broken, everything breaks if you set Windows 98 emulation...
    Someone pointed out that there was an error on the wine arch package that was solved later, but I have not heard anything about it, and my system is upgraded as of today. Can anyone confirm this problem? Is it only kernel related? Is there a workaround? (e.g. an easy way to downgrade the kernel until this is hopefully fixed).

    Unfortunately I'm not sure it broke in the last upgrade, I didn't use layout.exe at least for a month. Having a look to the log:

    EDIT: Tried downgrading wine yo version 1.7.14-1 and it doesn't work. Maybe I'll have to downgrade the kernel, and I don't know if it could have any side-effects.

  • U530 Win 7 Downgrade Wifi doesn't work

    I have a new U530 I just bought.  I need windows 7, so I did a downgrade.  I downloaded all the Win7 drivers, and managed to make everything happy except no Wifi.  The Win7 drivers on the support site don't have the the hardware ID for this wifi card.  In windows 8 it shows Broadcom 802.11ac Network Adapter, with PC\VEN)14E4&DEV_43B1&SUBSYS_062E17AA&REV_03, which does not show up in the .inf file for the drivers that install from the wl05w7.exe driver file.  Also the setup quits without graceful finish, even if I right click and do run as administrator.
    I purchased two of these laptops, but one needs to work with Win 7.  I'm willing to switch out the wifi card if you have something that works with Win 7.
    Thanks

    That worked great. Can you update the driver download page for this product. It would have saved me most of Saturday and all of Sunday installing/reinstalling Win7 trying combinations that didn't work.
    Thank you very much for your help.
