Wine spill on macbook pro help/advice?

Basically on Monday morning i woke up and went to go on my macbook pro 13"
I opened it and there was white wine on the screen and on the keyboard, I was shocked since i didnt remember spilling anything on it so im not sure how much i spilt or how much went into the inside of the computer. The macbook wouldnt turn on and when plugged to charge (was only plugged in to check itt wasnt working) showed no sign of power and the green light wasnt on.
I've been reading online and most things told me to just leave it to dry for a couple days which I have been doing, I wouldve taken it to a repair centre or apple but there are no free spaces for an apple appointment till next monday, so ill probably go then
Out of curiosity I plugged the charger in today on friday night to see if it'd light up having been left to dry and stuff for 5 days and it did light up and the fan started to sspin a little bit. I quickly unplugged it & I didnt turn it on in fear of inflicting more damage to it since ive read it'd accelerate damage to the components & apparently the heat could caramelise the remaining white wine? I think the computer is in sleep mode? Assuming i heard the fans starting to spin & whir, What do you guys recommend I do? Leave it or check whether it works? Or should I make sure its turned off and unscrew the back and check if the logic board or anything else has been damaged?

Yeah  I know :/ lol I tried going to the apple shop on tuesday but one of the women their said they were busy and I'd have to make an appointment online and I asked if I could make one now but she said it has to be online which is really annoying tbh
Anyway ive been checking online & there is no spaces available :/ like how long am i supposed to wait its so stupid tbh
If the repairs are costly I'll have to get a chromebook for the time being until I save for an imac how annoying im so stupid

I spilled a small amount of wine on my macbook pro keyboard, I know, killing myself over this! I dried it fully but 24 hours later the keys are very sticky and it won't find the Bluetooth module so I can't use my magic mouse - everything else seems to be working fine. Thanks for any tips!

Your keyboard will never be right again; it needs to be replaced. There's no effective way to clean sticky stuff out of it. Your Bluetooth module may have been shorted out and destroyed, and it probably isn't dry yet after only 24 hours.
Take your machine in for repair, and expect a hefty bill in the hundreds of dollars.

    Hi Timia,
If you are using Safari as a web browser :-
Open Safari, go to Safari menu > Preferences > General, and put Google as the homepage. Then, choose Google as your default search engine.
If you are using Google Chrome as the web browser :-
      Open Google Chrome.
In the top right corner of the page, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu > Settings.
In the "Search" section, select Google from the drop-down menu.
Let me know if you still experience any issue.

    Hey guys!
So my housemate spilt wine on my two month old Macbook Pro and now it isn't responding....
I'm not an idiot and I understand that it my be stuffed but does anybody know how much it will cost to fix???
    Thanks in advance..

If it was a Windows laptop, it would have been beer spilt on it
Anyway, there's no way of knowing how much it will cost to fix.  You'll probably have to take it to the Apple store to have them look at it.

  • Trying to install Win 7 on MacBook Pro with OSx 10.9.3 and computer does not recognize install dvd

I'm using a 2009 MacBook Pro running Mavericks 10.9.3 and I am trying to install Win 7 using BootCamp 5. I've been able to install BootCamp before using the original Win7 install dvd on this computer but ever since I updated it (not sure how many time, its been a year or so since I last used BootCamp) and started using BootCamp 5 its been giving me problems reading the DvD. I know my internal DvD reader works because I've imported music recently but whenever I get into the very first step of BootCamp 5 (Download Support and Install Windows option screen) I click next with only install windows option checked and it tells me to wait for the DvD to be recognized when its already in. However it does come up with the option later to open with/eject the "blank DvD" which is the Win install DvD. Any ideas on how to get around this issue?

My suggestion would be to reinstall Lion from zero. No update.
I did that, and now I can install / uninstall Air without problems.

  • IPhoto library is a behemoth on my MacBook pro -- help this Mac Grandma out

Don't laugh at me ( if you do, be really quiet about it!)
Here's the deal: Out of fear of losing photos, I have made a monster out of my iphoto library. It now takes up 34GB of space on my MacBook Pro. There are duplicates in there and well, it's a mess. (I have ghost images of some photos, for example).
I want to start fresh but not lose photos and data and album names. I have copied the iPhoto Library folder to DVD. I have run the backup program with iLife (to 300GB LaCie Extreme). I have even copied the iPhoto Library folder to the LaCie three times and each time renamed with the date (e.g. iPhoto Library 9/15/07; iPhoto Library 11/13/07, etc. ). Now I have so many duplicates, I don't trust the way I've used backup, and to top it all off - I have little to no space on my MacBook Pro. It's as slow as a my old Powerbook 180 running three programs at once.
    1. How do I free up the space on my MBP and yet still work on current photos in iPhoto on it and adding to my iPhoto Library without carrying around every picture (and then some) I have ever taken on my laptop. Should I start from scratch with a whole new library? Then how do I work with old photos from the older iPhoto library.
    2. What's the best way to back it up.
    3. Would iLife '08 help or would that complicate matters?
    4. Any advice on duplicates? How to I find duplicate photos, delete them, but make sure I have not lost the image and data?
Any help would be appreciated before my MBP with 1.99 GB left crashes.
Help this grandma out! I love Macs but I don't use them properly. Happy Holidays! Mrs. P.

    Mrs. P
You've got a nice project to keep you busy over the xmas!
    1. You MUST first make space on the disk - you're in immediate danger of a very serious OS crash if you don't. The fastest way to do this is to move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Which Macbook Pro  - Help !!

    Hi,
I currently have a G5 Powermac (dual 2.7 with 8GB RAM), outputting via a GeForce 6800 Ultra to 2 x 24" monitors via DVI.  It is used predominantly for music (Logic) and Video (Final Cut).
I am considering 'upgrading' to a Macbook Pro but have a couple of questions first...
Is the Macbook Pro going to be noticably faster and quieter than my trusty G5?
Can the Macbook Pro ouput to my 2 monitors?  (The monitors have VGA, DVI and HDMI connections if this offers options.)
To clarify, I don't want to use the Macbook's display as one of my screens - I want to use my dual monitor system already in place.
    Sadly, I can't afford a Mac Pro
    Thanks.

Look at the evidence, Shootist...you were hardly overy-helpful or supportive.
Saying "Time to start saving for a Mac Pro" when I'd already posted that I couldn't afford one was plain idiotic.  Then, to mention iMacs was even worse, since I'd made it abundantly clear that I wanted to use my existing screens.
Your Thunderbolt/USB combination comment is outdated and, had you done a Google search, you'd know that desktop extending IS possible at 1080p.
Then, you were plain rude, with "I'm sorry what did you not understand about my above post..."
I thought I responded very politely, and am still doing so.  Maybe you should reconsider some of your contributions.  If it's not helpful or accurately informative...don't bother.  Just saying "no" is not much use to anyone.  You should offer reasons or alternatives with positive and negatives attached. Manners cost nothing.
Do you really think I haven't searched Google already?  I came here for some more specialist help/advice and to maybe learn from others who've encountered similar requirements and have overcome the issue to a satisfactory outcome.
Since no-one else has contributed, I will assume there are no satisfactory tried/tested solutions.
I am amazed that this hasn't been tried, though...

  • Brother Printer HL-5250DN not working with my new MacBook Pro - HELP

Hello there, I just purchased a new MacBook Pro - I've had to use PC (yuck) for work and had an IBook which was great until the dog knocked it off the dresser ...... Anyway, so I've replaced it with the Pro and love it - of course. Except......
My problem is this Brother printer (HL 5250DN) which has been an absolute workhorse, but try as I might I can't get this Pro to print - unless I physically hook it to a USB port and print, which defeats the purpose of having a wireless network allowing me to print from anywhere.....
I have tried suggestions from previous posts (unzipping the gz files - resetting the printer) but still nothing works... Any other suggestions - I'm going nuts here and Brother help line can't seem to give me a solution that works... HELP..... I really want to get going (New Years Resolutions and such) on my new projects and am absolutely grounded with this thing....

  • After upgrading to Mavericks on MacBook Pro, help doesn't open

I have a MacBook Pro OSX 10.9.4 with a processor 2.8 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo with memory of 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3. I just upgraded to Mavericks last week and now I can't get the help menus to open when in Finder or using Numbers. I haven't checked the other applications. Do I need to do something with my help menu items? If so what would that be?

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.4 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.4 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo).

  • Cannot install Adobe Air on new MacBook Pro - Help!

I have a brand new MacBook Pro and I am trying to install a program from Real Networks called Rinse (cleans up your iTunes).  When installing Rinse, I get a message that says the program requires Adobe Air and that I will need to download and install it.  I have downloaded the Adobe Air install program from the Adobe site, however when I go to install it, it either does nothing at all---or it gives me an error message that I need Adobe Air in order to install Adobe Air (makes no sense).  Specifically, I get the message below:
This application requires a version of Adobe AIR which cannot be found.
Please download the latest version of the runtime from
    http://www.adobe.com/go/getair,
or contact the application author for an updated version.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

    Hi,
I would recommend you try downloading Adobe Air from this link : Get Adobe Air.
You will have to manually select the operating system and version before you begin the download.
If you continue to have the same issue, I would recommend that you post it in the Adobe Air Forums.
    Thanks

  • Win 7 on MacBook pro under bootcamp and USB to serial

    Hi all,
I am planning running win 7 under bootcamp on my macbook pro with mountain lion 10.8.2.
There is only one program I want to run under windows and that program needs to use a USB to serial converter made by KeySpan.
Question is once win 7 is installed will I then be able to install the windows drivers for the keyspan device as if I was on a win 7 PC?
    Thanks

    Silvolde wrote:
One more question: where do I download the apple drivers or does that happen automatically?
Nope. The first thing that the BootCamp Assistant offers you is to create a drivers CD or USB flashdrive. Once Windows installation is complete, you use that media to install drivers that allow Win7  to identify and use properly the Mac's hardware. Else it will use generic drivers that may not work fully.
Run the first step of Assistant again if you missed that. It won't mess up your installation.

  • Adding more RAM to MacBook Pro Help!

    Dear Apple Support Community,
Ok so first of all don't tell me to go search for older discussions >:(
    Here are my system specs:
    MacBook Pro 15", Mid 2010
    Processor - 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory    - 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics   - NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512 MB
    Software   - OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion
I was going to buy some extra RAM and boost up my computer to about 16 GB total because my computer is running a bit sluggish lately when I'm running several apps at once (such as pages, keynote, chrome, steam, itunes...) but now that I've seen a few videos online and some reviews on amazon, I'm not completely sure which RAM is the one that will not screw up my computer. I saw a video on 'UnboxTherapy's Channel' where he said something about the timing of the RAM which is in the format like 9-9-9-24 or something, as well as some review saying something about the computer not working at all thanks to the RAM because the computers didn't match..
Please help me find a 16GB RAM that will work on my computer (please try and keep the websites amazon if possible, I live in japan :/)
and please explain to me what the RAM timings mean and how to figure out my timing...
    Thank you for reading

    Hi leroy,
    Thanks for the quick reply!
I checked the Crucial site, and apparently my Macbook Pro can only upgrade until 8GB...
Is there any way to upgrade to 16GB without any trouble?
Also, if I upgrade to 8GB, will I see any difference? Some users say that you won't see much change between 4GB and 8GB of RAM... Is this true?
    Thanks!

  • Wireless transfer of photos from camera to Macbook Pro (help)

Im sorry if this might not be the correct place to ask about it but Im going to give it a try.
I know this can be done because professionals are doing it across the globe already.
I just purchased a Canon 50D along with a WFT-E3A wireless transmitter. I shoot professional Lacrosse in Chicago and for the first time will be trying out the possibility of sending photos straight from my camera to my new Macbook Pro. If this works then my next purchase is going to be the WFT-E2 and a Canon 1D MK III to complete the process.
The main idea is that I will be doing shooting all over the arena and just sending them back to my laptop and having my assistant taking care of post processing of them and then uploading to a website.
But now comes the fun part.
Because this is one step above me setting up a normal wireless network like I have at home for me to get onto the internet. I don't really know where to start on setting up a specific network and configuring it to just have the camera and computer "talk" to each other.
My thoughts are that I would like to have one specific network setup for my laptop at the games when shooting. And then just bring it back home and switch it back over to the normal network I have set up to get my internet wirelessly.
I have been talking with several Genius people here in Madison and was told there are two types of networks to set up, Ad Hoc and Infrastructure.
I have been told to set it up an infrastructure network because this is going to give me widest range for me to be further away from my computer.
The question that is puzzling most of the Genius people and myself is this. Should I have one or several base stations placed somewhere in the arena between me and the computer helping me out so I don't lose signal between the two devices?
If that is the case how would I set up the base station in order to relay or transmit the signal from my laptop to my camera?
After I get this portion all set up I think it isn't going to be an issue of getting the camera to talk with my laptop. But that is another issue that I will need to pose to other photographers or maybe a canon rep directly.
    Ok Im all ears now!
    Thanks,
    Ross

There is more than one date that can be associated with an image, and I think you're running into different programs displaying different dates. This is not a comprehensive list but:
Capture date: Date and time the photo was recorded by the camera clock, stored in EXIF camera data.
Created date: Date and time the photo was first saved to disk by photo software on a computer
Modified date: Date and time the edited photo was last saved to disk by photo software on a computer
Archived date: I'm not really sure but I see this in detailed photo information too.
Furthermore, these dates can be stored in various additional date fields in other IPTC metadata sections, and various software might not write or read them in the same ways as other software.
But what I think is going on in your case is that the iPhoto Info panel is displaying the Capture Date from the camera recorded EXIF data, but what you see in the Finder are the Created and Modified dates.
If I'm right, then LexSchellings' column suggestion may not work because all you would get is the File Created date, not the camera recorded Capture Date. I do not know of a way to display camera EXIF capture date in the Finder. Generally, organizing photos using that data is done using a photo management app like iPhoto, Picasa, Apple Aperture, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Bridge, Media Pro, etc., not on the desktop.
If you were able to view the Capture Date in Windows Explorer, then that's an advantage that Windows Explorer (the desktop) had over the Finder. I've seen other cases where the Finder couldn't do something Windows Explorer could, so I wouldn't be surprised.
As far as the duplicates, I don't really know but I did a search at macupdate.com and you might want to check some of these utilities that can help resolve duplicates.
    MacUpdate search on "duplicate photo"
macupdate.com is a great place to look for Mac software if you didn't find it in the Mac App Store.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

For video you would need either a DVI to HDMI cable or a DVI to VGA cable. Either one would work based on the inputs the TV has.
